RESUMO

Objective To investigate the protective effect of dihydromyricetin (DHM) against exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) in mice and its potential mechanism. Methods Adult male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into control group (CG), exercise group (EG), and exercise + 100 mg/kg weight ·d DHM (DHM) group. The intervention lasted for four weeks, during which the animals in the EG and DHM groups were subjected to exercise training for 1 h per day. The day after the training, a 90-min treadmill exercise (slope: 0 and speed: 18 m/min) was conducted in both EG and DHM groups. Samples of blood and gastrocnemius muscles were harvested from the three groups 24 h after the exercise, followed by the measurement of serum creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities, total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) activity, malondialdehyde (MDA), and skeletal muscle mitochondrial enzyme complex I and II activities. Histological changes in the skeletal muscle were observed by transmission electron microscopy, and the protein expressions of mitochondrial function-related pathways were detected by Western blotting. Results Skeletal muscle morphological changes and mitochondrial damage were alleviated in the DHM group compared to those in the EG. The activities of EIMD markers CK and LDH and the level of lipid peroxidation were notably repressed and the serum T-SOD activity was enhanced after DHM intervention. Western blotting demonstrated that the expressions of sirtuin type 3 (SIRT3), estrogen-related receptor alpha, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator-1 alpha in the skeletal muscle of mice increased after the DHM intervention. Conclusion DHM can relieve EIMD in mice, possibly by promoting the recovery of the mitochondrial structure and function in the skeletal muscle of mice after high-intensity exercise via the activation of the SIRT3 signaling pathway.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation (CORE-OM) is a measure of clinical outcomes that has been widely used in mental health research. Nevertheless, the exploration of the factor structure of the CORE-OM yields diverse results. This study aims to explore the factor structure with an innovative method known as exploratory graph analysis (EGA) and supplemented with bifactor modeling. METHOD: A Chinese version of the CORE-OM was administrated to a total of 1361 clinical college students. We first examined the factor structure of the CORE-OM using EGA, and then compared the model derived by EGA with other models using CFA to find the most reasonable model. RESULTS: The result of EGA indicated a four-factor model of CORE-OM. The CFA further suggested a bifactor model with a four-factor structure combined with a general factor. The bifactor modeling suggested a significant proportion of shared variance among the variables was attributed to the general factor. The four-factor bifactor model exhibited a satisfactory fit to the data. CONCLUSION: The results confirm the robustness and parsimonious nature of a four-factor bifactor model for the Chinese version of CORE-OM. It is suitable for measuring intrapersonal psychological distress, positive emotions, interpersonal problems, and risk-related issues among the Chinese population.

RESUMO

This study aimed to analyze the therapeutic effect of Zicuiyin on diabetic kidney disease(DKD) and explore the possible targets of this formula. Eighteen DKD patients treated in the endocrine department or nephrology department of Second Affilia-ted Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January to December in 2019 were enrolled and assigned into a test group(n=10) and a control group(n=8). Both groups received routine chemical medicine treatment. In addition, the test group was treated with Zicuiyin and the control group with Huangkui Capsules for 8 weeks. The clinical trial was approved by the Ethics Committee of Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with the ethical approval No. 2017-023-01, and all the patients signed the informed consent form. The results showed that the 8-week treatment with Zicuiyin lowered the level of glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) and recovered the 24 h urinary protein(24hUP), 24 h urinary microalbumin(24hmAlb), urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio(UACR), and estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR) of the patients with 24hUP<3.5 g. According to the different levels in 24hUP, all the patients were divided into two subgroups(subgroup A with 24hUP<3.5 g and subgroup B with 24hUP≥3.5 g). The ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS)-based non-targeted metabolomics analysis was conducted on the baseline serum samples from diffe-rent subgroups of patients. Nineteen biomarker candidates were identified to distinguish the metabolic differences between the two subgroups, and their correlations with clinical indicators were analyzed. Zicuiyin lowered the levels of phenylalanine, pseudouridine, and adenosine [fold change(FC)<0.5, P<0.05] in subgroup A. The results indicated that Zicuiyin was more effective on the DKD patients with low urinary protein levels, and its targets were involved in phenylalanine metabolism and nucleoside metabolism.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To explore the changes in gut microbiota and levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) in infants with cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA), and to clarify their role in CMPA. METHODS: A total of 25 infants diagnosed with CMPA at Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University from August 2019 to August 2020 were enrolled as the CMPA group, and 25 healthy infants were selected as the control group. Fecal samples (200 mg) were collected from both groups and subjected to 16S rDNA high-throughput sequencing technology and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to analyze the changes in gut microbial composition and metabolites. Microbial diversity was analyzed in conjunction with metabolites. RESULTS: Compared to the control group, the CMPA group showed altered gut microbial structure and significantly increased α-diversity (P<0.001). The abundance of Firmicutes, Clostridiales and Bacteroidetes was significantly decreased, while the abundance of Sphingomonadaceae, Clostridiaceae_1 and Mycoplasmataceae was significantly increased in the CMPA group compared to the control group (P<0.001). Metabolomic analysis revealed reduced levels of acetic acid, butyric acid, and isovaleric acid in the CMPA group compared to the control group, and the levels of the metabolites were positively correlated with the abundance of SCFA-producing bacteria such as Faecalibacterium and Roseburia (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: CMPA infants have alterations in gut microbial structure, increased microbial diversity, and decreased levels of SCFA, which may contribute to increased intestinal inflammation.

RESUMO

Cadmium (Cd) is one of the dominant metal pollutants present in the aquatic environment that affects ion homeostasis, oxidative stress (OS) and immune responses of aquatic organisms. Given the physicochemical similarities between Cd2+ and calcium (Ca2+) ions, their antagonism may facilitate the mitigation of Cd-induced toxicity. To better understand the role of Ca in protecting against Cd-induced toxicity in teleosts, juvenile grass carp were exposed to Cd (measured concentration 3 µg/L) and a gradient of Ca concentrations (measured concentration 1.5 mg/L, 2.5 mg/L, 3.0 mg/L, and 3.5 mg/L in the control (CTL) group, low calcium (LCA) group, medium calcium (MCA) group, and high calcium (HCA) group, respectively) for 30 days. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) data analyses showed that simultaneous exposure to Ca impaired the accumulation of Cd in all tested tissues. Besides, Ca addition maintained the plasma ion (Na+, K+, Cl-) homeostasis, alleviated Cd-induced oxidative stress (OS), and regulated the activities and transcriptional levels of ATPase. Furthermore, transcriptional heatmap analysis demonstrated that several indicator genes for OS and calcium signaling pathway were found to be significantly modulated by Ca addition. This work delineates a protective effect of Ca against Cd-induced toxicity in grass carp, providing new insight into the possible solutions to Cd pollution issues in aquaculture industry.

RESUMO

With the development of information technology, more and more travel data have provided great convenience for scholars to study the travel behavior of users. Planning user travel has increasingly attracted researchers' attention due to its great theoretical significance and practical value. In this study, we not only consider the minimum fleet size required to meet the urban travel needs but also consider the travel time and distance of the fleet. Based on the above reasons, we propose a travel scheduling solution that comprehensively considers time and space costs, namely, the Spatial-Temporal Hopcroft-Karp (STHK) algorithm. The analysis results show that the STHK algorithm not only significantly reduces the off-load time and off-load distance of the fleet travel by as much as 81% and 58% and retains the heterogeneous characteristics of human travel behavior. Our study indicates that the new planning algorithm provides the size of the fleet to meet the needs of urban travel and reduces the extra travel time and distance, thereby reducing energy consumption and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Concurrently, the travel planning results also conform to the basic characteristics of human travel and have important theoretical significance and practical application value.

RESUMO

Describing travel patterns and identifying significant locations is a crucial area of research in transportation geography and social dynamics. Our study aims to contribute to this field by analyzing taxi trip data from Chengdu and New York City. Specifically, we investigate the probability density distribution of trip distance in each city, which enables us to construct long- and short-distance trip networks. To identify critical nodes within these networks, we employ the PageRank algorithm and categorize them using centrality and participation indices. Furthermore, we explore the factors that contribute to their influence and observe a clear hierarchical multi-centre structure in Chengdu's trip networks, while no such phenomenon is evident in New York City's. Our study provides insight into the impact of trip distance on important nodes within trip networks in both cities and serves as a reference for distinguishing between long and short taxi trips. Our findings also reveal substantial differences in network structures between the two cities, highlighting the nuanced relationship between network structure and socio-economic factors. Ultimately, our research sheds light on the underlying mechanisms shaping transportation networks in urban areas and offers valuable insights into urban planning and policy making.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of volume-guaranteed high frequency oscillation ventilation (HFOV-VG) versus conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV) in the treatment of preterm infants with respiratory failure. METHODS: A prospective study was conducted on 112 preterm infants with respiratory failure (a gestational age of 28-34 weeks) who were admitted to the Department of Neonatology, Jiangyin Hospital Affiliated to Medical School of Southeast University, from October 2018 to December 2022. The infants were randomly divided into an HFOV-VG group (44 infants) and a CMV group (68 infants) using the coin tossing method based on the mode of mechanical ventilation. The therapeutic efficacy was compared between the two groups. RESULTS: After 24 hours of treatment, both the HFOV-VG and CMV groups showed significant improvements in arterial blood pH, partial pressure of oxygen, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, and partial pressure of oxygen/fractional concentration of inspired oxygen ratio (P<0.05), and the HFOV-VG group had better improvements than the CMV group (P<0.05). There were no significant differences between the two groups in the incidence rate of complications, 28-day mortality rate, and length of hospital stay (P>0.05), but the HFOV-VG group had a significantly shorter duration of invasive mechanical ventilation than the CMV group (P<0.05). The follow-up at the corrected age of 6 months showed that there were no significant differences between the two groups in the scores of developmental quotient, gross motor function, fine motor function, adaptive ability, language, and social behavior in the Pediatric Neuropsychological Development Scale (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with CMV mode, HFOV-VG mode improves partial pressure of oxygen and promotes carbon dioxide elimination, thereby enhancing oxygenation and shortening the duration of mechanical ventilation in preterm infants with respiratory failure, while it has no significant impact on short-term neurobehavioral development in these infants.

RESUMO

Exposure to ultraviolet B radiation (UV-B) stress can have serious effects on the growth and development of plants. Germin-like proteins (GLPs) may be involved in different abiotic and biotic stress responses in different plants, but little is known about the role of GLPs in UV-B stress response and acclimation in plants. In the present study, knockout of GLP 8-14 (OsGLP1) using the CRISPR/Cas9 system resulted in mutant rice (Oryza sativa L.) plants (herein called glp1) that exhibited UV-B-dependent formation of lesion mimic in leaves. Moreover, glp1 grown under solar radiation (including UV-B) showed decreased plant height and increased leaf angle, but we observed no significant differences in phenotypes between wild-type (WT) plants and glp1 grown under artificial light lacking UV-B. Fv/Fm, Y (II) and the expression of many genes, based on RNA-seq analysis, related to photosynthesis were also only reduced in glp1, but not in WT, after transfer from a growth cabinet illuminated with artificial white light lacking UV-B to growth under natural sunlight. The genes-associated with flavonoid metabolism as well as UV resistance locus 8 (OsUVR8), phytochrome interacting factor-like 15-like (OsPIF3), pyridoxal 5'-phosphate synthase subunit PDX1.2 (OsPDX1.2), deoxyribodipyrimidine photolyase (OsPHR), and deoxyribodipyrimidine photolyase family protein-like (OsPHRL) exhibited lower expression levels, while higher expression levels of mitogen-activated protein kinase 5-like (OsMPK3), mitogen-activated protein kinase 13-like (OsMPK13), and transcription factor MYB4-like (OsMYB4) were observed in glp1 than in WT after transfer from a growth cabinet illuminated with artificial white light to growth under natural sunlight. Therefore, mutations in OsGLP1 resulted in rice plants more sensitive to UV-B and reduced expression of some genes for UV-B protection, suggesting that OsGLP1 is involved in acclimation to UV-B radiation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acute lung injury is an acute progressive respiratory failure caused by several of non-cardiogenic factors which involves in excessive amplification or uncontrolled inflammatory response. OBJECTIVES: In this study, we investigated the protective effect of baicalein against acute lung injury induced by LPS and explored the underlying mechanisms. METHODS: Forty-eight SPF male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into normal group, model group, dexamethasone group and baicalein low-dose, medium-dose and high-dose groups. After 5 days of adaptive feeding, the mice were intraperitoneally injected with LPS and dissected after 12 h. Hematoxylin-eosin staining, ELISA assay, immunofluorescence assay and Western-Blot were applied to appraise microstructural changes and protein expressions of lung tissues. Systems pharmacology study was used to evaluate the protection of baicalein on acute lung injury. FINDINGS: The results showed that baicalein administration could significantly inhibit LPS-induced lung morphological changes, inhibit inflammatory response and pyroptosis. A total of forty-three potential targets of baicalein and acute lung injury were obtained. And PI3K-Akt, TNF and NF-κB were mainly signaling pathways. It is worth mentioning that this experiment also confirmed that NLRP3, caspase-1 and other inflammasome are involved in pyroptosis. CONCLUSION: Baicalein has protected against LPS-induced lung tissues injury via inhibiting inflammatory response and pyroptosis.

RESUMO

Biochar has caught great attention over the last decade with the loose and porous structure, and carbon stability provides suitable living conditions for the growth and activity of microorganisms. This review provided a comprehensive summary of biochar immobilization microbe (BIM) in water and soil decontamination. Firstly, the bacterial immobilization techniques including adsorption, entrapping, and covalence methods were exhibited. Secondly, the applications of BIM in water and soil environmental remediation were introduced, mainly including the treatment of organic pollutants, heavy metals, and N/P, among which the most frequently immobilized microorganism was Bacillus. Then, the mechanisms of adsorption, redox, and degradation were analyzed. Finally, pertinent questions for future research of BIM technology were proposed. The purpose of this paper is to provide useful background information for the selection of better biochar fixation microorganisms for water and soil remediation.

RESUMO

Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor as an attractive drug target with promising antitumor effects has been widely investigated. High quality clinical trial has been conducted in liver transplant (LT) recipients in Western countries. However, the pertinent studies in Eastern world are paucity. Therefore, we designed a clinical trial to test whether sirolimus can improve recurrence-free survival (RFS) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients beyond the Milan criteria after LT. This is an open-labeled, single-arm, prospective, multicenter, and real-world study aiming to evaluate the clinical outcomes of early switch to sirolimus-based regimens in HCC patients after LT. Patients with a histologically proven HCC and beyond the Milan criteria will be enrolled. The initial immunosuppressant regimens are center-specific for the first 4-6 weeks. The following regimens integrated sirolimus into the regimens as a combination therapy with reduced calcineurin inhibitors based on the condition of patients and centers. The study is planned for 4 years in total with a 2-year enrollment period and a 2-year follow-up. We predict that sirolimus conversion regimen will provide survival benefits for patients particular in the key indicator RFS as well as better quality of life. If the trial is conducted successfully, we will have a continued monitoring over a longer follow-up time to estimate indicator of overall survival. We hope that the outcome will provide better evidence for clinical decision-making and revising treatment guidelines based on Chinese population data. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: NIHL is one of the most common occupational diseases induced by gene-environment interaction. The CDH23 gene is a candidate gene related to NIHL susceptibility. However, the relationship between CDH23 gene and NIHL is still inconclusive. AIM: To clarify the association between CDH23 gene and NIHL, a meta-analysis was performed. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A search in MEDLINE, PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang Data was implemented to collect data. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Six studies were eventually included and all the subjects were Chinese. The results showed that rs1227051, rs1227049, and rs3752752 were not associated with NIHL susceptibility under five genetic models. But rs3802711 reduced the risk of NIHL under the recessive model, and the BB genotype and B allele of rs3802711 were significantly linked to NIHL under recessive, super-dominant, homozygote, and allele genetic models when stratified by the HWE result. Moreover, when not conform to HWE, the BB + AB genotypes and B allele of Exon7 in dominant, super-dominant, homozygote, and allele genetic model increased the risk of NIHL. CDH23 may be a potential gene marker for the prevention and early screening of NIHL in Chinese. Further large and well-designed studies are needed to confirm this association.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To study the clinical efficacy, advantages, and disadvantages of adaptive biofeedback training combined with oral administration of compound polyethylene glycol 4000-electrolyte powder in the treatment of children with outlet obstruction constipation (OOC). METHODS: A total of 168 children with OOC were enrolled in this prospective study. All the subjects were randomly divided into a test group and a control group based on the order of visiting time, 84 in each group. The test group was treated with adaptive biofeedback training combined with oral administration of compound polyethylene glycol 4000-electrolyte powder, and the control group was treated with oral administration of compound polyethylene glycol 4000-electrolyte powder alone. Eleven children in the test group and two children in the control group withdrew from the study since they could not finish the whole treatment course. Finally, 73 children in the test group and 82 children in the control group were included in this analysis. As clinical outcomes, the total score of clinical symptoms and overall response rate were compared between the two groups at weeks 4 and 8 of treatment. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in the total score of clinical symptoms between the two groups at beginning of treatment and at week 4 (P>0.05), while the test group had a significantly lower total score of clinical symptoms than the control group at week 8 (P<0.05). At week 4, there was no significant difference in overall response rate between the two groups (P>0.05), while the test group had a significantly higher overall response rate than the control group at week 8 (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Adaptive biofeedback training combined with oral administration of compound polyethylene glycol 4000-electrolyte powder is significantly associated with improvement of clinical outcomes in the treatment of children with OOC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To explore the optimal maintenance dose of caffeine citrate for preterm infants requiring assisted ventilation and caffeine citrate treatment. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on the medical data of 566 preterm infants (gestational age ≤34 weeks) who were treated and required assisted ventilation and caffeine citrate treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit of 30 tertiary hospitals in Jiangsu Province of China between January 1 and December 31, 2019. The 405 preterm infants receiving high-dose (10 mg/kg per day) caffeine citrate after a loading dose of 20 mg/kg within 24 hours after birth were enrolled as the high-dose group. The 161 preterm infants receiving low-dose (5 mg/kg per day) caffeine citrate were enrolled as the low-dose group. RESULTS: Compared with the low-dose group, the high-dose group had significant reductions in the need for high-concentration oxygen during assisted ventilation (P=0.044), the duration of oxygen inhalation after weaning from noninvasive ventilation (P<0.01), total oxygen inhalation time during hospitalization (P<0.01), the proportion of preterm infants requiring noninvasive ventilation again (P<0.01), the rate of use of pulmonary surfactant and budesonide (P<0.05), and the incidence rates of apnea and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (P<0.01), but the high-dose group had a significantly increased incidence rate of feeding intolerance (P=0.032). There were no significant differences between the two groups in the body weight change, the incidence rates of retinopathy of prematurity, intraventricular hemorrhage or necrotizing enterocolitis, the mortality rate, and the duration of caffeine use (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: This pilot multicenter study shows that the high maintenance dose (10 mg/kg per day) is generally beneficial to preterm infants in China and does not increase the incidence rate of common adverse reactions. For the risk of feeding intolerance, further research is needed to eliminate the interference of confounding factors as far as possible.

RESUMO

The disadvantages of limited working pH range and poor stability have hindered the practical application of traditional electro-Fenton process. In this research, a novel heterogeneous electro-Fenton (HEF) process with FeIIFeIII layered double hydroxide/carbon felt (FeIIFeIII LDH/CF) as cathode was developed for the rapid destruction of ciprofloxacin (CIP) in bulk solution. Effects of crucial influencing factors (initial pH, current intensity) on CIP degradation were investigated. Results indicated that FeIIFeIII LDH/CF cathode was efficient for CIP degradation (88.11%). Furthermore, CIP degradation performance in HEF could remain stable over wide range of pH (pH 3-9). The catalytic degradation of CIP in HEF process might be a combined effect of homogeneous EF reaction, anodic oxidation, and surface catalysis process via≡FeII/≡FeIII cycle. Possible degradation pathways were proposed. The results suggested that FeIIFeIII LDH/CF cathode showed great application potential for CIP degradation.

RESUMO

Sodium percarbonate (SPC) is considered a potential alternative to liquid hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in organic compounds contaminated water/soil remediation due to its regularly, transportable, economical, and eco-friendly features. The solid state of SPC makes it more suitable to remediate actual soil and water with a milder H2O2 release rate. Apart from its good oxidative capacity, alkaline SPC can simultaneously remediate acidized solution and soil to the neutral condition. Conventionally, percarbonate-based advanced oxidation process (P-AOPs) system proceed through the catalysis under ultraviolet ray, transition metal ions (i.e., Fe2+, Fe3+, and V4+), and nanoscale zero-valent metals (iron, zinc, copper, and nickel). The hydroxyl radical (•OH), superoxide radical (•O2-), and carbonate radical anion (•CO3-) generated from sodium percarbonate could attack the organic pollutant structure. In this review, we present the advances of P-AOPs in heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic processes through a wide range of activation methods. This review aims to give an overview of the catalysis and application of P-AOPs for emerging contaminants degradation and act as a guideline of the field advances. Various activation methods of percarbonate are summarized, and the influence factors in the solution matrix such as pH, anions, and cations are thoroughly discussed. Moreover, this review helps to clarify the advantages and shortcomings of P-AOPs in current scientific progress and guide the future practical direction of P-AOPs in sustainable carbon catalysis and green chemistry.

RESUMO

To better grasp developments and trends in research on green energy and environmental technologies, the published literatures in the Web of Science Core Collection database from 1998 to 2020 were utilized to reveal critical information and guidance on what has been investigated, and what are the changes in research interests using a bibliometric method. Herein, yearly quantitative distribution of literatures, author contribution and collaboration, productive and influential institutions and countries/territories, co-citation analysis, keywords co-occurrence analysis, and research frontier identification are analyzed via information visualization technology. The results show that the publications on green energy and environmental technologies have grown exponentially, that China, the USA, and Italy are the most active countries, but the global cooperation is not close at present. The research frontier identification results reveal that the categories of energy, wastewater, and performance remain stable, while the trending up and emerging categories of catalyst and CO2 emission show clear shift over the last decade, indicating that catalytic production of clean energy and value-added chemicals, strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and other related studies to solve the global energy crisis and environmental problems are the research frontiers. This bibliometric study provides unique insights and offers research guidance on green energy and environmental technologies.

RESUMO

City taxi service systems have been empirically studied by a number of data-driven methods. However, their underlying mechanisms are hard to understand because the present mathematical models neglect to explain a (whole) taxi service process that includes a pair of on-load phase and off-load phase. In this paper, by analyzing a large amount of taxi servicing data from a large city in China, we observe that the taxi service process shows different temporal and spatial features according to the on-load phase and off-load phase. Moreover, our correlation analysis results demonstrate the lack of dependence between the on-load phase and the off-load phase. Hence, we introduce two independent random walk models based on the Langevin equation to describe the underlying mechanism and to understand the temporal and spatial features of the taxi service process. Our study attempts to formulate the mathematical framework for simulating the taxi service process and better understanding of its underlying mechanism.

RESUMO

Electrochemical treatments of coking wastewater (CW) and coal gasification wastewater (CGW) were conducted with Ti/Ti4O7 and Ti/RuO2-IrO2 anodes. The performances of Ti/Ti4O7 and Ti/RuO2-IrO2 anodes were investigated by analyzing the effects of five key influencing factors including anodes material, current density, anode-cathode distance, initial pH value, and electrolyte type. The removal efficiencies of total organic carbon (TOC) were analyzed during the processes of CW and CGW electro-oxidation. The removal efficiencies of sixteen polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in CW and CGW by electro-oxidation were also explored to further assess the electrochemical activities of Ti/Ti4O7 and Ti/RuO2-IrO2 anodes. The Ti/Ti4O7 anode achieved 78.7% COD removal efficiency of CW, 85.8% COD removal efficiency of CGW, 50.3% TOC removal efficiency of CW, and 54.8% TOC removal efficiency of CGW, higher than the Ti/RuO2-IrO2 anode (76.7%, 78.1%, 44.8% and 46.8%). The COD removal efficiencies increased with the applied current density, decreased with the increase of the anode-cathode distance, and slightly decreased with the increase of the initial pH value. Meanwhile, the removal efficiencies of sixteen PAHs by the Ti/Ti4O7 anode were mostly higher than those by the Ti/RuO2-IrO2 anode. By comprehensively analyzing the performances of Ti/Ti4O7 and Ti/RuO2-IrO2 anodes on electrochemical treatments of CW and CGW, this study may supply insights into the application potentials of these anodes to the electrochemical treatments of real wastewater.
