this exploratory, qualitative, descriptive study was conducted between January and March 2020 with 25 puerperal womeninpatients in follow-up of newborns with congenital syphilis at a Rio de Janeiro statematernity hospital in the Baixada Fluminense. The data were treated by thematic analysis and discussed in the light of the Conservation Theory proposed by Myra Estrin Levine. The research protocol was approved by the research ethics committee.
