RESUMO

It was reported that within the head and neck cancer (HNC) cell line CAL21 the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and cell proliferation were promoted by Urokinase-Type Plasminogen Activator (PLAU) proteinase through TNFRSF12A. Additionally, in this paper HNC cell lines refer to Fadu and Tu686. A novel PLAU-STAT3 axis was found to be involved in HNC cell line proliferation and metastasis. PLAU expression in HNC samples was upregulated, besides, the elevated expression of PLAU was linked to the lower overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Ectopic PLAU expression promoted cell proliferation and migration, while PLAU knockdown exhibited opposite results. RNA-seq data identified the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, confirmed by western blotting. A recovery assay using S3I-201, a selective inhibitor of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), indicated that PLAU promoted HNC cell line progression via STAT3 signaling in vitro. The oncogenic role of PLAU in HNC tumor growth in vivo was confirmed using xenograft models. In summary, we identified the tumorigenic PLAU function in the HNC progress. PLAU may represent a potential prognostic biomarker of HNC and the PLAU-STAT3 pathway might be considered a therapeutic target of HNC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The risk of asthma in patients with psoriasis has been identified in previous studies, but the bidirectional association between the two has not been fully explored. METHODS: We thoroughly searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to find relevant observational studies published from the inception of these databases to October 2023. All the risk and bias assessments were analyzed by STATA 16.0. Where the heterogeneity was less than 50%, the fixed effect model was utilized. While where the level of heterogeneity was more than 50%, the random effect model was applied. Moreover, to identify publication bias, a visual funnel chart, and Egger's test were applied. RESULTS: A total of 12,396,911 participants from 16 studies, published between 2011 and 2023 were included in this meta-analysis. We found that psoriasis patients had a higher risk of developing asthma (OR = 1.48, 95%CI 1.28-1.68). Meanwhile, asthma patients also had a higher overall risk of developing psoriasis (OR = 1.33, 95%CI 1.23-1.44). In the subgroup analysis, we found that the type of study, age, and severity of the psoriasis were significant factors in the survey of asthma risk in psoriasis patients. CONCLUSIONS: In the present systematic review and meta-analysis, we found a bidirectional association between psoriasis and asthma with significantly increased risk. As a result, clinicians should make patients aware of the connection between the two, particularly adolescents or patients with moderate to severe psoriasis who need to be informed about the rising likelihood of developing asthma. RESUMO

Background and Objectives: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease whose impact on health is not only limited to the skin, but is also associated with multiple comorbidities. Early screening for comorbidities along with appropriate treatment plans can provide a positive prognosis for patients. This study aimed to summarize the knowledge structure in the field of psoriasis comorbidities and further explore its research hotspots and trends through bibliometrics. Materials and Methods: A search was conducted in the core collection of the Web of Science for literature on comorbidities of psoriasis from 2004 to 2022. VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were used for collaborative network analysis, co-citation analysis of references, and keyword co-occurrence analysis on these publications. Results: A total of 1803 papers written by 6741 authors from 81 countries was included. The publications have shown a progressive increase since 2004. The United States and Europe were at the forefront of this field. The most prolific institution was the University of California, and the most productive author was A. Armstrong. Research has focused on "psoriatic arthritis", "metabolic syndrome", "cardiovascular disease", "psychosomatic disease", "inflammatory bowel disease", "prevalence", "quality of life", and "risk factor" in the past 18 years. Keywords such as "biologics" and "systemic inflammation", have been widely used recently, suggesting current research hotspots and trends. Conclusions: Over the past 18 years, tremendous progress has been made in research on psoriasis comorbidity. However, collaborations among countries, institutions, and investigators are inadequate, and the study of the mechanisms of interaction between psoriasis and comorbidities and management of comorbidities is insufficient. The treatment of comorbidities with biologic agents, screening of comorbidities, and multidisciplinary co-management are predicted to be the focus of future research.

RESUMO

Although computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) have shown excellent performance in Breast cancer (BC) histopathological image, it commonly requires a high-level network, and the recognition efficiency is frequently unsatisfied due to the complex structure of histopathological image. In this study, a ten-layers convolutional neural network (CNN) model called "ColorDeep" is used to extract color features corresponding to the different tissue parts in cell, pure color image slices obtained by a three-channel separation and reconstruction method are used as model input. Two models are tested on the BreaKHis dataset show that images under four magnifications achieved the recognition accuracy of 96.89%-99.67% at the image level, which is better than many state-of-the-art methods. The characteristics contained by the B channel have the largest effect on BC recognition, and compared to other research results, the proposed model improves the recognition speed on a single image by about 0.1s. More importantly, instead of using large histopathological images to input into the model for BC diagnosis, and instead of segmenting the nuclei, only the reconstructed B-channel features containing the nuclei region in the stained BC image need to be input into the model to enable accurate diagnosis of BC.

RESUMO

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation has always been a hot topic for researchers. The complex and changeable environment makes it very challenging to estimate the DOA in a small snapshot and strong noise environment. The direction-of-arrival estimation method based on compressed sensing (CS) is a new method proposed in recent years. It has received widespread attention because it can realize the direction-of-arrival estimation under small snapshots. However, this method will cause serious distortion in a strong noise environment. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a DOA estimation algorithm based on the principle of CS and density-based spatial clustering (DBSCAN). First of all, in order to make the estimation accuracy higher, this paper selects a signal reconstruction strategy based on the basis pursuit de-noising (BPDN). In response to the challenge of the selection of regularization parameters in this strategy, the power spectrum entropy is proposed to characterize the noise intensity of the signal, so as to provide reasonable suggestions for the selection of regularization parameters; Then, this paper finds out that the DOA estimation based on the principle of CS will get a denser estimation near the real angle under the condition of small snapshots through analysis, so it is proposed to use a DBSCAN method to process the above data to obtain the final DOA estimate; Finally, calculate the cluster center value of each cluster, the number of clusters is the number of signal sources, and the cluster center value is the final DOA estimate. The proposed method is applied to the simulation experiment and the micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) vector hydrophone lake test experiment, and they are proved that the proposed method can obtain good results of DOA estimation under the conditions of small snapshots and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Many previous studies have reported factors that contribute to health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for a single skin disease. However, little is known about generalized factors associated with HRQoL across skin diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate overall HRQoL, and to identify factors related to severely impaired HRQoL among patients with 16 different skin diseases. METHODS: A cross-sectional study of 9845 patients with skin disease was conducted in 9 hospitals in China. HRQoL was assessed with the Chinese version of the Skindex-29 which measures dermatology-specific health along three domains (symptoms, emotions and functioning). With the published Skindex-29 cut-off scores for severely impaired HRQoL, logistic regression models assessed the relationship between severely impaired HRQoL and demographic/clinical characteristics, with adjustments for different skin diseases. To guarantee the models' convergence, 16 skin diseases with frequencies of at least 100 were included, and the sample size was 8789. RESULTS: Emotions was the most impaired aspect of HRQoL. Co-existing chronic diseases, 3 years or longer duration, and more severity were identified as associated factors for severely impaired HRQoL for each Skindex-29 domain, and for the aggregate. Being female, under 45 years old, and consuming alcohol were associated with a severely impaired emotion domain; Lack of exercise and smoking were associated with severely impaired symptoms and function domains, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Skin diseases can affect many facets of HRQoL, but the emotional impairment deserves more attention. In addition to skin disease severity, this study shows that other chronic diseases and long duration are correlated with severely impaired HRQoL for patients with 16 clinical common skin diseases. This suggests the need for increased awareness in treating skin disease as a chronic disease. It also suggests that disease management decisions should consider HRQoL improvement, especially emotional conditions, when making management decisions.

RESUMO

In this paper we proposed a wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) telemonitoring system for atrial fibrillation (AF) detection based on a smartphone and cloud computing. A wearable ECG patch was designed to collect ECG signals and send the signals to an Android smartphone via Bluetooth. An Android APP was developed to display the ECG waveforms in real time and transmit every 30 s ECG data to a remote cloud server. A machine learning (CatBoost)-based ECG classification method was proposed to detect AF in the cloud server. In case of detected AF, the cloud server pushed the ECG data and classification results to the web browser of a doctor. Finally, the Android APP displayed the doctor's diagnosis for the ECG signals. Experimental results showed the proposed CatBoost classifier trained with 17 selected features achieved an overall F1 score of 0.92 on the test set (n = 7,270). The proposed wearable ECG monitoring system may potentially be useful for long-term ECG telemonitoring for AF detection.

RESUMO

Purpose: To optimize treatment schemes using 2450-MHz microwave ablation (MWA), a novel conformal coverage method based on bipolar-angle mapping is proposed that determines whether a liver tumor is completely encompassed by thermal coagulation zones. Materials and methods: Firstly, three-dimensional (3-D) triangular mesh data of liver tumors were reconstructed from clinical computed tomography (CT) slices using the Marching cubes (MC) algorithm. Secondly, characterization models of thermal coagulation zones were established based on finite element simulation results of 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60 W ablations. Finally, coagulation zone models and tumor surface data were mapped and fused on a two-dimensional (2-D) plane to achieve conformal coverage of liver tumors by comparing the corresponding polar radii. Results: Optimal parameters for ablation treatment of liver tumors were efficiently obtained with the proposed conformal coverage method. Fifteen liver tumors were obtained with maximal diameters of 12.329-78.612 mm (mean ± standard deviation, 39.094 ± 19.447 mm). The insertion positions and orientations of the MWA antenna were determined based on 3-D reconstruction results of these tumors. The ablation patterns and durations of tumors were planned according to the minimum mean standard deviations between the ablative margin and tumor surface. Conclusion: The proposed method can be applied to computer-assisted MWA treatment planning of liver tumors, and is expected to guide clinical procedures in future.

RESUMO

In this paper, a fetal electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring system based on the Android smartphone was proposed. We designed a portable low-power fetal ECG collector, which collected maternal abdominal ECG signals in real time. The ECG data were sent to a smartphone client via Bluetooth. Smartphone app software was developed based on the Android system. The app integrated the fast fixed-point algorithm for independent component analysis (FastICA) and the sample entropy algorithm, for the sake of real-time extraction of fetal ECG signals from the maternal abdominal ECG signals. The fetal heart rate was computed using the extracted fetal ECG signals. Experimental results showed that the FastICA algorithm can extract a clear fetal ECG, and the sample entropy can correctly determine the channel where the fetal ECG is located. The proposed fetal ECG monitoring system may be feasible for non-invasive, real-time monitoring of fetal ECGs.

RESUMO

Underwater acoustic technology is an important means of detecting the ocean. Due to the complex influence of the marine environment, there is a lot of noise and baseline drift in the signals collected by hydrophones. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a denoising and baseline drift removal algorithm for MEMS vector hydrophone based on whale-optimized variational mode decomposition (VMD) and correlation coefficient (CC). Firstly, the power spectrum entropy (PSE), which reflects the variation characteristics of the signal frequency is selected as the fitness function of the whale-optimization algorithm to find the parameters (K,α) of the VMD. It is easier to find the global optimal solution of the parameters by combining the whale-optimization algorithm. Then, using the VMD algorithm after obtaining the parameters, the original signal is decomposed to obtain the intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), and calculating the correlation coefficients (CCs) between the IMFs and the original signal. Finally, the CC threshold is used to remove the noise IMFs, and the rest of the useful IMFs are reconstructed to complete the denoising and baseline drift removal process of the original signals. In the simulation experiments, the algorithm proposed in this paper shows better performance by comparing conventional digital signal-processing methods and the related algorithms proposed recently. Applied in the experiments of a MEMS hydrophone, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is also verified. This algorithm can provide new ideas for signal denoising and baseline drift removal.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and to assess the invariance of its items with respect to several patient parameters via Rasch analysis. Data were aggregated from 9,845 patients with various skin diseases across 9 hospitals in different regions of China. The response structure, local independence, and reliability of the DLQI scale were analysed in a partial credit model, and differential item functioning (DIF) across region, disease, sex, and age were assessed with a Mantel-Haenszel procedure. Although acceptable scale reliability (Person Separation Index=2.3) was obtained, several problems were revealed, including disordered response thresholds, misfitting items, DIF by geogra-phical region and disease, and mis-targeting patients with mild impairment regarding health-related quality of life (HRQL). In conclusion, the DLQI provides inadequate information on patients' impairments in HRQL, and the application of the DLQI in Chinese patients with skin disease is limited.

RESUMO

Psoriasis (PS) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. Previous studies showed that these two diseases had a common pathogenesis, but the precise molecular mechanism remains unclear. In this study, RNA sequencing of peripheral blood mononuclear cells was employed to explore both the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of 10 PS and 10 RA patients compared with those of 10 healthy volunteers and the shared DEGs between these two diseases. Bioinformatics network analysis was used to reveal the connections among the shared DEGs and the corresponding molecular mechanism. In total, 120 and 212 DEGs were identified in PS and RA, respectively, and 31 shared DEGs were identified. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that the cytokine imbalance relevant to key molecules (such as extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), colony-stimulating factor 3 (CSF3), interleukin- (IL-) 6, and interferon gene (IFNG)) and canonical signaling pathways (such as the complement system, antigen presentation, macropinocytosis signaling, nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signaling, and IL-17 signaling) was responsible for the common comprehensive mechanism of PS and RA. Our findings provide a better understanding of the pathogenesis of PS and RA, suggesting potential strategies for treating and preventing both diseases. This study may also provide a new paradigm for illuminating the common pathogenesis of different diseases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. We aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal Pulian ointment in treating psoriasis vulgaris of blood-heat syndrome. METHODS: A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted. Participants with psoriasis vulgaris of blood-heat syndrome were blinded and randomized to receive Pulian ointment or placebo ointment twice daily for 4 weeks, with follow-up 8 weeks after treatment. Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) scores, severity of each symptom and area of skin lesion and quality of life were assessed at baseline, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks. Adverse events were recorded during the study. SAS 9.4 software and SPSS 17.0 software was applied for data analysis. RESULTS: A total of 300 participants with psoriasis vulgaris of blood-heat syndrome were assessed for eligibility, and 294 were randomly assigned to the Pulian ointment and placebo group from six study centers. Full analysis set (FAS): after 4 weeks of treatment, there were significant differences between groups in PASI score and the separate score of skin lesion area, favoring Pulian ointment group (P < 0.05). However, no significant differences were observed in scores of scaling, erythema and induration/thickness (P > 0.05). Per protocol set (PPS): There was no statistically significant difference in PASI score and separate score of each symptom and area of skin lesion between two groups (P > 0.05). Quality of life measured by Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA) and 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) improved after treatment in both groups, but there was no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). After being followed up for 8 weeks, the total relapse rates of the Pulian Ointment group and placebo group were 5.88 and 8.45%, respectively, and the difference was not statistically significant between the two groups (P > 0.05). No adverse event was observed in both groups throughout the study. CONCLUSIONS: Pulian Ointment seems effective and well tolerated in improving the PASI score and separate score of skin lesion area for patients with psoriasis vulgaris of blood-heat syndrome. Further research could build on the current study to explore whether other preparation forms and greater intervention intensity are necessary for better therapeutic effects. RESUMO

Objective To observe the curative effect of Zhiyang Pingfu Lotion (ZPL) for its ex- ternal application in treatment of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFRIs)-related acneiform rash, cutaneous pruritus , xerosis cutis , and nail changes , as well as to evaluate its safety and patients' satisfaction. Methods Recruited were 201 patients with confirmed pathological diagnosis, who had acne- iform rash after using EGFRIs. They were assigned to the treatment group (131 cases) and the control group (70 cases) by random digit table. Patients in the treatment group were externally applied with self- formulated ZPL based on principles of Western medical standards, while those in the control group were externally applied with blank drugs plus conventional Western medicine standard. The therapeutic course for all was 14 days. Changes in rash degree, cutaneous pruritus, xerosis cutis, and nails were observed in both groups before and after treatment. Blood routines as well as liver and kidney function tests were performed in both groups before and after treatment. Follow-up visit was also conducted during progression-free survival (PFS). Results A total of 185 patients finished this clinical trial. Ten dropped out in the treatment group and 6 in the control group. The effective rates of rash degree, cutaneous pruritus, xerosis cutis, and nail changes were 90.1 % (109/121 ), 57.9% (70/121 ), 57. 9% (70/121 ), and 16. 5% (20/121) in the treatment group, respectively. They were 14. 1% (9/64), 6. 3% (4/64), 1. 6% (1164), and 0 (0/64) in the control group, respectively. Significant difference existed in all these indices between the two groups (X² = 105. 1022, 51. 3312, 59. 1777; P <0. 05). No serious drug-related adverse events occurred during clinical observation, with relatively better safety. The satisfaction was 95. 40% (125/131) in the treatment group and 57. 1 % (40/70) in the control group. No statistical difference in PFS was observed between the two groups (X² = 2. 006, P > 0. 05). Conclusions ZPL had significantly curative effect in treatment of EGFRIs-related skin adverse reactions, with no obvious adverse reactions. Howev- er, more randomized control trials are needed to verify these findings.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: With the amounts and types of new psychoactive substances (NPSs) increasing rapidly in recent years, an excellent high-throughput method for the analysis of these compounds is urgently needed. In this article, a rapid screening method and a quantitative analysis method for 11 NPSs are described and compared, respectively. METHOD: A simple direct analysis in real time mass spectrometry (DART-MS) method was developed for the analysis of 11 NPSs including three categories of these substances present on the global market such as four cathinones, one phenylethylamine, and six synthetic cannabinoids. In order to analyze these compounds quantitatively with better accuracy and sensitivity, another rapid analytical method with a low limit of detection (LOD) was also developed using liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC/QTOFMS). RESULTS: The 11 NPSs could be determined within 0.5 min by DART-MS. Furthermore, they could also be separated and determined within 5 min by the LC/QTOFMS method. The two methods both showed good linearity with correlation coefficients (r(2) ) higher than 0.99. The LODs for all these target NPSs by DART-MS and LC/QTOFMS ranged from 5 to 40 ng mL(-1) and 0.1 to 1 ng mL(-1) , respectively. Confiscated samples, named as "music vanilla" and "bath salt", and 11 spiked samples were firstly screened by DART-MS and then determined by LC/QTOFMS. CONCLUSIONS: The identification of NPSs in confiscated materials was successfully achieved, and the proposed analytical methodology could offer rapid screening and accurate analysis results. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of Chinese herbal medicine radix rehmanniae, radix arnebiae and cortex moutan on the proliferation of HaCaT cells and explore their potential curative mechanisms. METHODS: The main monomers of catalpol, l-shikonin and paeonol were extracted. And 10 ng/ml keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) was used to induce HaCaT cell to build an in vitro model of hyperproliferation of epidermal keratinocytes. CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry were applied to examine the effects of herbal monomers on cell proliferation and cell cycle. RESULTS: Both l-shikonin ( ≥ 10(-6) mol/L) and paeonol ( ≥ 1.88×10(-4) mol/L) inhibited cell proliferation while catalpol ( ≥ 10(-6) mol/L) enhanced cell proliferation.L-shikonin ( ≥ 10(-6) mol/L) and paeonol ( ≥ 1.88×10(-4) mol/L) inhibited the HaCaT cell during S and G2M phases while catalpol ( ≥ 10(-6) mol/L) enhanced HaCaT cell during S phase but not G2M phase. CONCLUSION: L-shikonin and paeonol inhibits the proliferation of HaCaT cells while catalpol has opposite effects.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To investigate the relationship between depression in early pregnancy and sleep quality in mid-pregnancy, and explore whether sleep disorders independently predicts depression across the perinatal period within women with or without depression in early pregnancy. METHODS: Data were collected at 7 time points from 12 weeks of pregnancy to 6 weeks postpartum. Multiple logistic regression and survival analysis were used to explore the relationship between sleep quality in mid-pregnancy and perinatal depression within women with or without depression in early pregnancy. RESULTS: 390 women were included. Women with depression in early pregnancy were more likely to have sleep disorders and perinatal depression. Women with sleep disorders had a higher risk of perinatal depression compared to women without sleep disorders in mid-pregnancy. Stratified analysis based on whether depressed at 12 weeks of pregnancy found that among women without depression, those with sleep disorders in mid-pregnancy were more likely to have subsequent perinatal depression and appeared earlier; whereas, among women with depression, mid-pregnancy sleep disorders was not a predictor of subsequent perinatal depression. LIMITATION: High rates of missed visits may lead to sample bias, with depression and sleep quality being assessed by self-report. CONCLUSIONS: Women with depression in early pregnancy are more likely to have sleep disorders in mid-pregnancy. There is a strong correlation between sleep quality in mid-pregnancy and perinatal depression among women without depression in early pregnancy. Routine screening and intervention for sleep disorders should be a priority in perinatal care to reduce the incidence of perinatal depression.

RESUMO

The United Nations reported that the mortality risk of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is five times higher in the elderly than the global average. Although the COVID-19 vaccine effectively prevents infections and reduce mortality among the elderly, vaccine hesitancy among the Chinese elderly poses a significant threat. This study, utilizing the "Confidence, Convenience and Complacency (3 Cs)" vaccine hesitancy model, aimed to explore factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy among the Chinese elderly and assess national countermeasures and potential improvement approaches. Thirteen elderly with vaccine hesitancy and eleven vaccine-related staff participated in semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis revealed three key determinants of vaccine hesitancy among the elderly: perceived low threat of COVID-19, lack of confidence in COVID-19 vaccine, and poor accessibility to vaccination. China has implemented strategies, including advocacy through diverse channels, joint multi-sectoral promotion vaccination, and enhancing ongoing vaccination services. Recommendations from the vaccine-related staff emphasize improving vaccine awareness among the elderly, and prioritizing the vaccination environment and process. The study underscores the importance of targeted vaccination promotion programs addressing hesitation reasons to improve vaccination rates. Furthermore, existing countermeasures can serve as a foundation for enhancing vaccination strategies, including improved publicity, administration, and management approaches.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The study aims to validate the Whooley questions for screening postpartum depression in Chinese women in a community setting. METHODS: The Whooley questions was translated into Chinese following Beaton's intercultural debugging guidelines. From December 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, primary maternal and child health workers in Kaifu District and Changsha County in Changsha City recruited women aged 18 years or older who had recently given birth during home visits within seven days of discharge from hospital. Participants women completed the Whooley questions online and underwent a diagnostic interview for DSM-IV within 7 days of the visit. We evaluated Cronbach's alpha, split-half reliability, area under the ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and optimal cut-off value of the Whooley questions. RESULTS: Of the 3,004 eligible women, 1,862 completed the Whooley questions and diagnostic interviews. Sixty-two women (3.3%) were diagnosed with depressive disorders. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.64, the split-half reliability was 0.64. The optimal cut-off value was when at least one questions was answered "yes", with an AUC of 0.84 (SE=0.03, 95%CI 0.78-0.90, P<0.001), sensitivity of 0.77 (95%CI 0.65-0.87), specificity of 0.89 (95%CI 0.88-0.90), PPV of 0.20 (95%CI 0.15-0.25) and NPV of 0.99 (95%CI 0.98-1.00). CONCLUSION: This study shows that the Chinese version of the Whooley questions is a reliable tool for screening postpartum depression in the community, but it may lead to many false positive cases.
