RESUMO

We investigate the femtosecond laser ablation of copper with a dual-color double-pulse femtosecond laser at the wavelengths of 515 nm and 1030 nm. By properly choosing the energy of the 515 nm pulse, the optical properties such as surface reflectivity and absorption coefficient on copper surface can be modified to increase the absorption of the subsequent 1030 nm pulse. The ablation depth of dual-color double-pulse laser is at least 50% higher than the total ablation depth of both the 515 nm and 1030 nm pulses, provided that the inter-pulse delay of the double-pulse laser is within the electron-phonon coupling time. The ablation depth enhancement on a copper surface using a dual-color double-pulse femtosecond laser is of significant interest for scientific research and industrial application.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) XY magnets with easy magnetization planes support the nontrivial topological spin textures whose dissipationless transport is highly desirable for 2D spintronic devices. Here, we predicted that Janus monolayer V2XN (X = P, As) with a square lattice is a 2D-XY ferromagnet using first-principles calculations. Both magnetocrystalline anisotropy and magnetic shape anisotropy favor an in-plane magnetization, leading to an easy magnetization xy-plane in Janus monolayer V2XN. With the help of the Monte Carlo simulations, we observed the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) phase transition in monolayer V2XN with the transition temperature TBKT being above room temperature. In particular, monolayer V2AsN has a magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) of 292.0 µeV per V atom and a TBKT of 434 K, which is larger than that of monolayer V2PN. Moreover, a tensile strain of 5% can further improve the TBKT of monolayer V2XN to be above 500 K. Our results indicated that Janus monolayer V2XN (X = P, As) can be candidate materials to realize high-temperature 2D-XY ferromagnetism for spintronics applications.

RESUMO

We develop a background-free single-beam coherent Raman scattering technique enabling the high-sensitivity detection of greenhouse gases. In this scheme, Raman coherence prepared by a femtosecond laser is interrogated by self-generated narrowband air lasing, thus allowing single-beam measurements without complex pulse shaping. The unique temporal and spectral characteristics of air lasing are beneficial for improving the signal-to-noise ratio and spectral resolution of Raman signals. With this method, SF6 gas present at a concentration of 0.38% was detected in an SF6-air mixture. This technique provides a simple and promising route for remote detection due to the low divergence of Raman signals and the availability of high-energy pump lasers, which may broaden the potential applications of air lasing.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted great attention and spurred rapid development in both fundamental research and device applications. The search for exotic physical properties, such as magnetic and topological order, in 2D materials could enable the realization of novel quantum devices and is therefore at the forefront of materials science. Here, we report the discovery of twofold degenerate Weyl nodal lines in a 2D ferromagnetic material, a single-layer gadolinium-silver compound, based on combined angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements and theoretical calculations. These Weyl nodal lines are symmetry protected and thus robust against external perturbations. The coexistence of magnetic and topological order in a 2D material is likely to inform ongoing efforts study the rich physics in 2D topological ferromagnets.

RESUMO

Hydrogen, a simple and magic element, has attracted increasing attention for its effective incorporation within solids and powerful manipulation of electronic states. Here, we show that hydrogenation tackles common problems in two-dimensional borophene, e.g., stability and applicability. As a prominent example, a ladder-like boron hydride sheet, named as 2D ladder polyborane, achieves the desired outcome, enjoying the cleanest scenario with an anisotropic and tilted Dirac cone, that can be fully depicted by a minimal two-band tight-binding model. Introducing external fields, such as an electric field or a circularly polarized light field, can effectively induce distinctive massive Dirac fermions, whereupon four types of multi-field-driven topological domain walls hosting tunable chirality and valley indexes are further established. Moreover, the 2D ladder polyborane is thermodynamically stable at room temperature and supports highly switchable Dirac fermions, providing an ideal platform for realizing and exploring the various multi-field-tunable electronic states.

RESUMO

Quantum coherence in quantum optics is an essential part of optical information processing and light manipulation. Alkali metal vapors, despite the numerous shortcomings, are traditionally used in quantum optics as a working medium due to convenient near-infrared excitation, strong dipole transitions and long-lived coherence. Here, we proposed and experimentally demonstrated photon retention and subsequent re-emittance with the quantum coherence in a system of coherently excited molecular nitrogen ions (N2+) which are produced using a strong 800 nm femtosecond laser pulse. Such photon retention, facilitated by quantum coherence, keeps releasing directly-unmeasurable coherent photons for tens of picoseconds, but is able to be read out by a time-delayed femtosecond pulse centered at 1580 nm via two-photon resonant absorption, resulting in a strong radiation at 329.3 nm. We reveal a pivotal role of the excited-state population to transmit such extremely weak re-emitted photons in this system. This new finding unveils the nature of the coherent quantum control in N2+ for the potential platform for optical information storage in the remote atmosphere, and facilitates further exploration of fundamental interactions in the quantum optical platform with strong-field ionized molecules..

RESUMO

Based on first principles calculations, we propose a new 2D ferroelectric material, triple-layer (TL) LaOBiS2, with an ultrahigh carrier mobility over 40 000 cm2 V-1 s-1 and large sunlight absorption. TL-LaOBiS2 is composed of a middle LaO layer and top-and-bottom BiS2 layers that can be possibly exfoliated from its bulk counterpart. We reveal that each BiS2 layer can hold spontaneous in-plane ferroelectric polarization that can be further enhanced by imposing extensive strain. Furthermore, we discover that TL-LaOBiS2 possesses unconventional inner-TL ferroelectric (FE), antiferroelectric (AFE) and orthogonal polarizations. The ground inner-TL AFE state can be flexibly driven into a nearly degenerate FE state. Moreover, the direct band gaps, optical absorption and the carrier mobilities of TL-LaOBiS2 can be effectively regulated by different ferroelectric polarization configurations. This finding of various ferroelectric states with ultrahigh mobility and excellent optical absorption in TL-LaOBiS2 provides a promising platform for future realization of two-dimensional ferroelectric photovoltaic devices.

RESUMO

On the basis of ab initio calculations and a low-energy effective k· p model, we propose a Weyl nodal point-line (WNPL) fermion, composed of 0D Weyl points and a 1D Weyl nodal line, in the ferromagnetic material Eu5Bi3. In the absence of spin-orbital coupling (SOC), the spin-up bands host a pair of triply degenerate points together with a bird-cage-like node structure. In the presence of SOC with (001) magnetization, each triplet point splits into a double Weyl point and a single Weyl point accompanied by two nodal rings, forming two sets of WNPL fermions near the Fermi level. The novel properties of the WNPL fermion are explored by revealing the unusual Berry curvature field and demonstrating the pinned chiral surface states with exotic Fermi arcs. Our work offers new ideas for exploring novel topological semimetal states with diverse band-crossing dimensions and provides a candidate for future experimental realization.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter trial was conducted in healthy Chinese infants to assess the efficacy and safety of a pentavalent live human-bovine reassortant rotavirus vaccine (RotaTeq™, RV5) against rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE). METHODS: 4040 participants aged 6-12weeks were enrolled and randomly assigned to either 3 oral doses of RV5 (n=2020) or placebo (n=2020), administered ∼4weeks apart. The participants also received OPV and DTaP in a concomitant or staggered fashion. The primary objective was to evaluate vaccine efficacy (VE) against naturally-occurring RVGE at least 14days following the third dose. Key secondary objectives included: VE against naturally-occurring severe RVGE and VE against severe and any-severity RVGE caused by rotavirus serotypes contained in the vaccine, occurring at least 14days after the third dose. All adverse events (AEs) were collected for 30days following each dose. Serious AEs (SAEs) and intussusception cases were collected during the entire study. (ClinicalTrials.gov registry: NCT02062385). RESULTS: VE against RVGE of any-severity caused by any serotype was 69.3% (95% CI: 54.5, 79.7). The secondary efficacy analysis showed an efficacy of: 78.9% (95% CI: 59.1, 90.1) against severe RVGE caused by any serotype; 69.9% (95% CI: 55.2, 80.3) and 78.9% (95% CI: 59.1, 90.1) against any-severity and severe RVGE caused by serotypes contained in the vaccine, respectively. Within 30days following any vaccination, 53.5% (1079/2015) and 53.3% (1077/2019) of participants reported at least one AE, and 5.8% (116/2015) and 5.7% (116/2019) reported SAEs in the vaccine and placebo groups, respectively. No SAEs were considered vaccine-related in recipients of RV5. Two intussusception cases were reported in recipients of RV5 who recovered after receiving treatment. Neither was considered vaccine-related. CONCLUSIONS: In Chinese infants, RV5 was efficacious against any-severity and severe RVGE caused by any serotype and generally well-tolerated with respect to AEs.

RESUMO

Topological nodal line semimetals, a novel quantum state of materials, possess topologically nontrivial valence and conduction bands that touch at a line near the Fermi level. The exotic band structure can lead to various novel properties, such as long-range Coulomb interaction and flat Landau levels. Recently, topological nodal lines have been observed in several bulk materials, such as PtSn4, ZrSiS, TlTaSe2 and PbTaSe2. However, in two-dimensional materials, experimental research on nodal line fermions is still lacking. Here, we report the discovery of two-dimensional Dirac nodal line fermions in monolayer Cu2Si based on combined theoretical calculations and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements. The Dirac nodal lines in Cu2Si form two concentric loops centred around the Γ point and are protected by mirror reflection symmetry. Our results establish Cu2Si as a platform to study the novel physical properties in two-dimensional Dirac materials and provide opportunities to realize high-speed low-dissipation devices.

RESUMO

Based on DFT calculation, we predict that BiCN, i.e., bilayer Bi films passivated with -CN group, is a novel 2D Bi-based material with highly thermodynamic stability, and demonstrate that it is also a new kind of 2D TI with a giant SOC gap (~1 eV) by direct calculation of the topological invariant Z2 and obvious exhibition of the helical edge states. Monolayer h-BN and MoS2 are identified as good candidate substrates for supporting the nontrivial topological insulating phase of the 2D TI films, since the two substrates can stabilize and weakly interact with BiCN via van der Waals interaction and thus hardly affect the electronic properties, especially the band topology. The topological properties are robust against the strain and electric field. This may provide a promising platform for realization of novel topological phases.

RESUMO

This study evaluated the immunogenicity of the human rotavirus (RV) vaccine (RIX4414) when co-administered with routine childhood vaccines in Chinese infants (NCT01171963). Healthy infants aged 6-16 weeks received 2 doses of either RIX4414 or placebo according to a 0, 1-month schedule. Infants received routine diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (DTPa) and oral poliovirus (OPV) vaccines either separately from or concomitantly with RIX4414/placebo (separate and co-administration cohorts, respectively). Anti-RV IgA seroconversion rates (one month post-dose-2) and seropositivity rates (at one year of age) were measured using ELISA. Immune responses against the DTPa and OPV antigens were measured one month post-DTPa dose-3 in the co-administration cohort. Solicited local and general symptoms were recorded for 8-days post-vaccination (total cohort). The according-to-protocol immunogenicity population included 511 infants in the separate cohort and 275 in the co-administration cohort. One month post-RIX4414 dose-2, anti-RV IgA seroconversion rates were 74.7% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 68.9-79.9) and 64.2% (95% CI: 55.4-72.3) in the separate and co-administration cohorts; seropositivity rates at one year of age were 71.5% (95% CI: 65.5-77.1) and 50.0% (95% CI: 40.9-59.1), respectively. One month post-DTPa dose-3, all infants in the co-administration cohort were seroprotected against diphtheria and tetanus, and seropositive for pertussis toxoid, pertactin and filamentous haemaglutinin. Two months post-OPV dose-3, seroprotection rates against anti-poliovirus types 1, 2 and 3 were >99% in the co-administration cohort. Reactogenicity profiles were similar in both cohorts. RIX4414 was immunogenic and well-tolerated in Chinese infants and did not appear to interfere with the immunogenicity and reactogenicity of co-administered routine childhood vaccines.

RESUMO

Rotaviruses (RV) are a major cause of severe gastroenteritis (GE) in children aged<5 y. For the first time in China, we assessed the efficacy of two oral doses of the human rotavirus vaccine (RIX4414) in infants during the first two years of life (113808/NCT01171963). Healthy infants aged 6-16 weeks were randomized (1:1) to receive two oral doses of either the RIX4414 vaccine/placebo according to a 0, 1 month schedule. Vaccine efficacy (VE) against severe RVGE was assessed from two weeks post-Dose 2 up until the end of the second RV season and calculated with its 95% confidence intervals (CI). The primary efficacy objective was met if the lower limit of the 95% CI on VE was ≥10%. Unsolicited symptoms reported during the 31-d post-vaccination follow-up period and serious adverse events (SAEs) reported throughout the study were assessed. Of 3333 enrolled infants, 3148 were included in the according-to-protocol efficacy cohort. Over two consecutive RV seasons, fewer severe RVGE episodes were reported in the RIX4414 group (n=21) vs. the placebo group (n=75). VE against severe RVGE was 72% (95% CI: 54.1-83.6); the lower limit of the 95% CI on VE was >10%. The number of unsolicited symptoms and SAEs reported was similar between both groups. Thirteen deaths (RIX4414=6; placebo=7) occurred during the study. All SAEs and deaths in the RIX4414 group were considered unrelated to vaccination. Two oral doses of RIX4414 vaccine provided a substantial level of protection against severe RVGE in Chinese children during the first two years of life.
