RESUMO

The exchange-correlation (XC) functional in density functional theory is used to approximate multi-electron interactions. A plethora of different functionals are available, but nearly all are based on the hierarchy of inputs commonly referred to as "Jacob's ladder." This paper introduces an approach to construct XC functionals with inputs from convolutions of arbitrary kernels with the electron density, providing a route to move beyond Jacob's ladder. We derive the variational derivative of these functionals, showing consistency with the generalized gradient approximation (GGA), and provide equations for variational derivatives based on multipole features from convolutional kernels. A proof-of-concept functional, PBEq, which generalizes the PBE α ${\alpha }$ framework with α ${\alpha }$ being a spatially-resolved function of the monopole of the electron density, is presented and implemented. It allows a single functional to use different GGAs at different spatial points in a system, while obeying PBE constraints. Analysis of the results underlines the importance of error cancellation and the XC potential in data-driven functional design. After testing on small molecules, bulk metals, and surface catalysts, the results indicate that this approach is a promising route to simultaneously optimize multiple properties of interest.

Although recent regulatory approval of splice-switching oligonucleotides (SSOs) for the treatment of neuromuscular disease such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy has been an advance for the splice-switching field, current SSO chemistries have shown limited clinical benefit due to poor pharmacology. To overcome limitations of existing technologies, we engineered chimeric stereopure oligonucleotides with phosphorothioate (PS) and phosphoryl guanidine-containing (PN) backbones. We demonstrate that these chimeric stereopure oligonucleotides have markedly improved pharmacology and efficacy compared with PS-modified oligonucleotides, preventing premature death and improving median survival from 49 days to at least 280 days in a dystrophic mouse model with an aggressive phenotype. These data demonstrate that chemical optimization alone can profoundly impact oligonucleotide pharmacology and highlight the potential for continued innovation around the oligonucleotide backbone. More specifically, we conclude that chimeric stereopure oligonucleotides are a promising splice-switching modality with potential for the treatment of neuromuscular and other genetic diseases impacting difficult to reach tissues such as the skeletal muscle and heart.

Animal geneticists and breeders have the impending challenge of enhancing the resilience of Indian livestock to heat stress through better selection strategies. Climate change's impact on livestock is more intense in tropical countries like India where dairy cattle crossbreeds are more sensitive to heat stress. The main reason for this study was to find the missing relative changes in transcript levels in thermo-neutral and heat stress conditions in crossbred cattle through whole-transcriptome analysis of RNA-Seq data. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) identified based on the minimum log twofold change value and false discovery rate 0.05 revealed 468 up-regulated genes and 2273 down-regulated significant genes. Functional annotation and pathway analysis of these significant DEGs were compared based on Gene Ontology (Biological process), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome (KEGG), and Reactome pathways using g: Profiler, ShinyGO v0.76, and iDEP.951 web tools. On finding network visualization, the most over-represented and correlated pathways were neuronal and sensory organ development, calcium signalling pathway, Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and Smad signalling pathway, Ras-proximate-1, or Ras-related protein 1 (Rap 1) signalling pathway, apoptosis, and oxidative stress. Similarly, down-regulated genes were most expressed in mRNA processing, immune system, B-cell receptor signalling pathway, Nucleotide oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptors (NLRs) signalling pathway and nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) pathway. The heat stress-responsive genes identified in this study will facilitate our understanding of the molecular basis for climate resilience and heat tolerance in Indian dairy crossbreeds.

We investigate the influence of field-like torque and the direction of the external magnetic field on a one-dimensional array of serially connected spin-torque nano oscillators (STNOs), having free layers with perpendicular anisotropy, to achieve complete synchronization between them by analyzing the associated Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert-Slonczewski equation. The obtained results for synchronization are discussed for the cases of 2, 10, and 100 oscillators separately. The roles of the field-like torque and the direction of the external field on the synchronization of the STNOs are explored through the Kuramoto order parameter. While the field-like torque alone is sufficient to bring out global synchronization in the system made up of a small number of STNOs, the direction of the external field is also needed to be slightly tuned to synchronize the one-dimensional array of a large number of STNOs. The formation of complete synchronization through the construction of clusters within the system is identified for the 100 oscillators. The large amplitude synchronized oscillations are obtained for small to large numbers of oscillators. Moreover, the tunability in frequency for a wide range of currents is shown for the synchronized oscillations up to 100 spin-torque oscillators. In addition to achieving synchronization, the field-like torque increases the frequency of the synchronized oscillations. The transverse Lyapunov exponents are deduced to confirm the stable synchronization in coupled STNOs due to the field-like torque and to validate the results obtained in the numerical simulations. The output power of the array is estimated to be enhanced substantially due to complete synchronization by the combined effect of field-like torque and tunability of the field-angle.

The present study aimed to evaluate the genetic parameters of first parity reproductive traits. Information on 762 reproductive records on Saanen × Beetal (S × B) goats reared for approximately five decades was collected from ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana (1973-2020). For genetic analysis, single-trait and multiple-trait animal models were used. Gibbs sampler for animal model (GSAM) approach was used for estimating (co)variance components of reproductive traits. Six different single-trait animal models (with or without maternal and environmental effects) were used and the deviance information criterion (DIC) determined the best model. The least squares mean for age at first service (AFS), age at first kidding (AFK), service period (SP), dry period (DP), gestation length (GL), kidding interval (KI), litter weight (LW), number of kids born (NKB) and number of female kids born (NFKB) in first parity were 526.99 ± 4.86, 662.96 ± 5.03, 219.11 ± 6.25, 109.38 ± 6.00, 150.48 ± 0.27, 356.63 ± 4.80 days, 3.87 ± 0.05 kg, 1.27 ± 0.02 and 0.67 ± 0.03, respectively. Lower heritability estimates for these reproductive traits revealed a sparse scope for genetic improvement. Multivariate analysis using Model 1 was carried out to evaluate the genetic and phenotypic correlation of these nine reproductive traits. The genetic correlation of DP and SP was negatively with LW, NKB and NFKB, which is favourable as reduction in SP and DP can improve these economically important traits through indirect selection. Consistent efforts towards genetic improvement of these goat flock poses a promising future for meat industry owing to high prolificacy and good reproductive potential in this flock.

Selection of Murrah buffaloes based on production, reproduction, and health traits play an important role in sustainable genetic improvement. With the aim to construct an index comprising of production, reproduction and health traits of Murrah buffaloes, the production and reproduction data during a 50-year span (1971-2020) and for health traits data of 27 years (1994-2020) were analyzed. Various three, four, five, and six trait combinations of production, reproduction, and health traits were explored for construction of performance indices. The income and expenditure method was used to calculate relative economic values (REV) for traits under consideration. A total of 37 performance indices were constructed using a multi-trait combination of production, reproduction, and health traits. Out of 37 indices, the (ADMY-PY-DO-AFC-FF) based index was identified as the best, with 78%, 2%, and 20% weightage given to production, reproduction, and female fertility, respectively. Furthermore, when REVs of traits were increased by 25% and 50%, there was no change observed in the relative importance of traits in the best index, indicating that the index was robust to substantial increases in economic values. Therefore, it is recommended that the above constructed composite selection index can be employed in selection of female buffaloes to achieve sustainable genetic gain.

PURPOSE: Although several classifications are used to assess radiographs following radial head arthroplasty (RHA), including the Popovic classification for radiolucency, the Chanlalit classification for stress shielding (SS), the Brooker classification for heterotopic ossification (HO), and the Broberg-Morrey classification for radiocapitellar arthritis, little is known about the reliability of these classification systems. The purpose of this study was to determine the interobserver and intraobserver reliability of these classifications. METHODS: Six orthopedic surgeons at various levels of training reviewed elbow radiographs of 20 patients who underwent RHA and classified them according to the Popovic, Chanlalit, Brooker, and Broberg-Morrey classifications for radiolucency, SS, HO, and RHA, respectively. Four weeks after initial review, radiographic reviews were repeated. Reliability was measured using the Fleiss kappa and the intraclass correlation coefficient. Agreement was interpreted as none (<0), slight (0.01-0.2), fair (0.21-0.4), moderate (0.41-0.6), substantial (0.61-0.8), and almost perfect (0.81-1) based on agreement among attending surgeons. RESULTS: Among fellowship-trained attending surgeons, interobserver reliability was slight for SS (Chanlalit) and the categorical interpretation of radiolucency (Popovic), fair for radiocapitellar arthritis (Broberg-Morrey) and HO (Brooker), and substantial for the ordinal interpretation of radiolucency (Popovic). Residents had a higher interobserver reliability than attending physicians when using the Brooker classification. Mean intraobserver reliability was fair for SS (Chanlalit) and the categorical interpretation of radiolucency (Popovic), moderate for HO (Brooker) and radiocapitellar arthritis (Broberg-Morrey), and almost perfect for the ordinal interpretation of radiolucency (Popovic). Trainees had higher intraobserver reliability than attending surgeons using the SS (Chanlalit) classification. CONCLUSIONS: The number of Popovic zones is reliable for communication between physicians, but caution should be taken with the Brooker, Chanlalit, Broberg-Morrey, and categorical interpretation of the Popovic classifications. All the classifications had better intraobserver than interobserver reliability. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Reliability of classification systems for radiographic complications after RHA is less than substantial except the number of zones of radiolucency; therefore, caution is required when drawing conclusions based on these classifications.

In the present study, random regression models (RRM) were used to estimate genetic parameters for test-day milk yield in Murrah buffaloes using Legendre polynomial function (LP), with the objective to find the best combination of "minimum test-day model," which would be essential and sufficient to evaluate the trait successfully. Data included for analysis were 10,615 first lactation monthly test-day milk yield records (5th, 35th, 65th, …, 305th) from 965 Murrah buffaloes for the period 1975-2018. Cubic to octic-order orthogonal polynomials with homogeneous residual variances were used for the estimation of genetic parameters. Random regression models with sixth-order were selected based on goodness of fit criteria like lower AIC, BIC and residual variance. Heritability estimates ranged from 0.079 (TD6) to 0.21(TD10). For both ends of lactation, the additive genetic and environmental variances were higher and ranged from 0.21 ± 0.12 (TD6) to 0.85 ± 0.35 kg2 (TD1) and 3.74 ± 0.36 (TD11) to 1.36 ± 0.14 kg2 (TD9), respectively. Between adjacent test-day records, genetic correlation estimates ranged from 0.09 ± 0.31 (TD1 and TD2) to 0.97 ± 0.03 (TD3 and TD4; TD4 and TD5), but values gradually declined as the distance between test days increased. Negative genetic correlations were also obtained between TD1 with TD3 to TD9, TD2 with TD9 and TD10, and TD3 with TD10. On the basis of genetic correlations, models with 5 and/or 6 test-days combination were able to account for 86.1%-98.7% of variation along the lactation. Models with fourth and fifth-order LP functions were considered to account for variance with combinations of 5 and/or 6 test-day milk yields. The model with 6 test-day combinations had a higher rank correlation (0.93) with model using 11 monthly test-day milk yield records. On the basis of relative efficiency, the model with 6 monthly test day combinations with fifth-order was more efficient (maximum 99%) than the model using 11 monthly test-day milk yield records. Looking into the similar accuracy with the 11TD model, and the low resources requirement, we recommend the use of the "6 test-day combination model" for sire evaluation. These models may help in reducing the cost and time for data recording of milk yield.

This paper is an extension of the work published in Journal of Fluorescence (2011) 21: 785-791. In the previous work, we studied the effect of dimethoate (50, 100 and 200 ppm) on growth and photosynthetic activity of wheat seedlings after 10 days of dimethoate treatment. In the present study, new measurement conditions (dimethoate concentration: 25 ppm, treatment period: 20 days and 30 days) were used in addition to those used in the past work. Various plant growth parameters, photosynthetic pigment content, laser-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (LICF) spectra and fluorescence induction kinetics (FIK) curves were recorded after 10, 20 and 30 days of dimethoate treatments. LICF spectra were recorded in the region of 650-780 nm using violet diode laser (405 nm). FIK curves were recorded at 685 nm using red diode laser (635 nm). Fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of two fluorescence peaks around 685 and 730 nm, and variable chlorophyll fluorescence decrease ratio (Rfd) were determined from LICF spectra and FIK curves respectively. Curve-fitted parameters of LICF spectra were used for determination of FIR (F685/F730). The effect of treatment of the insecticide dimethoate on growth and photosynthetic activity of wheat seedlings was examined by using these parameters as well as the past work. In 10-days treatment, 25 and 50 ppm dimethoate showed stimulatory effect with better stimulation being observed at 25 ppm. All studied concentrations higher than 50 ppm exhibited inhibitory effect on wheat seedlings. In case of dimethoate treatment studied for longer durations (more than 10 days), all concentrations showed inhibitory effect. Lower doses which showed some positive response for short time duration become toxic with the extension of treatment periods. Thus, this study clearly confirms the toxic effect of dimethoate on wheat plants.

The fragmentation dynamics of the gas-phase, doubly charged camphor molecule, formed by Auger decay following carbon 1s ionisation, using soft X-ray synchrotron radiation, is presented in this work. The technique of velocity map imaging combined with a photoelectron-photoion-photoion coincidence (VMI-PEPIPICO) is used for both electron energy and ion momentum (in-sequence) measurements. The experimental study is complemented by molecular dynamics simulation, performed with an NVT (moles, volume, and temperature) ensemble. Velocity Verlet algorithms were used for time integration at various internal energies. These simulations validate observed dissociation pathways. From these, we successfully deduce that the internal energy of the doubly charged molecular ion has a significant contribution to the fragmentation mechanism. Notably, a prominent signature of the internal energy was observed in the experimentally determined energies of the neutral fragment in these deferred charge separation pathways, entailing a more detailed theoretical study to uncover the exact dissociation dynamics.

AIMS: The aim was to characterize a collection of Cronobacter sakazakii isolates collected from various origins in Jordan. METHODS AND RESULTS: The isolates were characterized using 16S rRNA sequencing, DNA microarray, multi-locus sequence typing (MLST), O-serotyping, virulence gene identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing. The identities and phylogenetic relatedness revealed that C. sakazakii sequence type 4 (ST4) and Csak O:1 serotype were the most prevalent STs and serovars amongst these C. sakazakii strains. PCR screening of putative virulence genes showed that the siderophore-interacting protein gene (sip) and iron acquisition gene clusters (eitCBAD and iucABCD/iutA) were the most detected genes with noticeable variability in the type 6 secretion system (T6SS) and filamentous hemagglutinin/adhesion (FHA) gene loci. The antibiotic resistance profiles revealed that the majority of the isolates were susceptible to all antibiotics used despite harbouring a class C ß-lactamase resistance gene. CONCLUSIONS: The results described in this report provide additional insights about the considerable genotypic and phenotypic heterogeneity within C. sakazakii. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The information reported in this study might be of great value in understanding the origins of C. sakazakii isolates, in addition to their diversity and variability, which might be helpful in preventing future outbreaks of this pathogen.

The accurate prediction of reaction mechanisms in heterogeneous (surface) catalysis is one of the central challenges in computational chemistry. Quantum Monte Carlo methods─Diffusion Monte Carlo (DMC) in particular─are being recognized as higher-accuracy, albeit more computationally expensive, alternatives to Density Functional Theory (DFT) for energy predictions of catalytic systems. A major computational bottleneck in the broader adoption of DMC for catalysis is the need to perform finite-size extrapolations by simulating increasingly large periodic cells (supercells) to eliminate many-body finite-size effects and obtain energies in the thermodynamic limit. Here, we show that it is possible to significantly reduce this computational cost by leveraging the cancellation of many-body finite-size errors that accompanies the evaluation of energy differences when calculating quantities like adsorption (binding) energies and mapping potential energy surfaces. We analyze the cancellation and convergence of many-body finite-size errors in two well-known adsorbate/slab systems, H2O/LiH(001) and CO/Pt(111). Based on this analysis, we identify strategies for obtaining binding energies in the thermodynamic limit that optimally utilize error cancellation to balance accuracy and computational efficiency. Using one such strategy, we then predict the correct order of adsorption site preference on CO/Pt(111), a challenging problem for a wide range of density functionals. Our accurate and inexpensive DMC calculations are found to unambiguously recover the top > bridge > hollow site order, in agreement with experimental observations. We proceed to use this DMC method to map the potential energy surface of CO hopping between Pt(111) adsorption sites. This reveals the existence of an L-shaped top-bridge-hollow diffusion trajectory characterized by energy barriers that provide an additional kinetic justification for experimental observations of CO/Pt(111) adsorption. Overall, this work demonstrates that it is routinely possible to achieve order-of-magnitude speedups and memory savings in DMC calculations by taking advantage of error cancellation in the calculation of energy differences that are ubiquitous in heterogeneous catalysis and surface chemistry more broadly.

BACKGROUND: Acute flexor tendon injuries are challenging injuries for patients, surgeons, and therapists alike. There is ongoing debate about the optimal timing and amount of therapy after these injuries. PURPOSE: We sought to investigate the relationship between hand therapy utilization and reoperation rates after flexor tendon repair and quantify reoperation rates and costs associated with flexor tendon repair. We hypothesize there will be an inverse relationship between the number of hand therapy visits and later reoperation rates and a positive correlation between reoperation rates and total cost of care. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing primary flexor tendon repair was pursued. METHODS: A commercially available database was utilized to access insurance claims data for 20.9 million patients in the US from 2007 to 2015. Patients undergoing primary flexor tendon repair were included and followed for one year. Patients with fractures, vascular injuries, or digit replantation were excluded. We studied post-operative rehabilitation utilization, reoperation rates, and costs. Chi-Square tests and multivariable logistic regressions were used to assess the relationship between therapy utilization and reoperation rates and costs. RESULTS: The one-year reoperation rate was 11.4 percent at a median time of 100.0 days amongst 1,129 patients undergoing primary tendon repair. In multivariable analysis, age between 30 and 59, male sex, and utilization of over 21 therapy sessions were associated with increased odds of reoperation. Mean insurance reimbursement one year following primary flexor repair was $14,533 per patient but $27,870 if patients went on to reoperation. CONCLUSION: Continued therapy utilization after primary flexor tendon repair is an independent predictor of reoperation need. These findings may help surgeons counsel patients who require a large number of visits after flexor tendon repair on when to revisit surgical options.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted all walks of life, including the transportation sector. Fear of the contagion coupled with government regulations to restrict mobility altered the travel behavior of the public. This study proposes integrating freely accessible aggregate mobility datasets published by tech giants Apple and Google, which opens a broader avenue for mobility research in the light of difficult data collection circumstances. A comparative analysis of the changes in usage of different mobility modes during the national lockdown and unlock policy periods across 6 Indian cities (Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune) explain the spatio-temporal differences in mode usages. The study shows a preference for individual travel modes (walking and driving) over public transit. Comparisons with pre-pandemic mode shares present evidence of inertia in the choice of travel modes. Association investigations through generalized linear mixed-effects models identify income, vehicle registrations, and employment rates at the city level to significantly impact the community mobility trends. The methods and interpretations from this study benefit government, planners, and researchers to boost informed policymaking and implementation during a future emergency demanding mobility regulations in the high-density urban conglomerations.

Cronobacter sakazakii is a typical example of a xerotolerant bacterium. It is epidemiologically linked to low-moisture foods like powdered infant formula (PIF) and is associated with high fatality rates among neonates. We characterized the xerotolerance in a clinically isolated strain, Cronobacter sakazakii ATCC™29544T, and compared the desiccation tolerance with that of an environmental strain, C. sakazakii SP291, whose desiccation tolerance was previously characterized. We found that, although the clinical strain was desiccation-tolerant, the level of tolerance was compromised when compared with that of the environmental strain. Transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq)-based deep transcriptomic characterization identified a unique transcriptional profile in the clinical strain compared with what was already known for the environmental strain. As RNA-seq was also carried out under different TSB growth conditions, genes that were expressed specifically under desiccated conditions were identified and denoted as desiccation responsive genes (DRGs). Interestingly, these DRGs included transcriptomic factors like fnr, ramA, and genes associated with inositol metabolism, a phenotype as yet unreported in C. sakazakii. Further, the clinical strain did not express the proP gene, which was previously reported to be very important for desiccation survival and persistence. Interestingly, analysis of the plasmid genes showed that the iron metabolism in desiccated C. sakazakii ATCC™29544T cells specifically involved the siderophore cronobactin, encoded by the iucABCD genes. Confirmatory studies using quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (qRT-PCR) determined that, though the secondary desiccation response genes were upregulated in C. sakazakii ATCC™29544T, the level of upregulation was lower than that in C. sakazakii SP291. All these factors may collectively contribute to the compromised desiccation tolerance in the clinical strain. IMPORTANCE Cronobacter sakazakii has led to outbreaks in the past, particularly associated with foods that are low in moisture content. This species has adapted to survive in low water conditions and can survive in such environments for long periods. These characteristics have enabled the pathogen to contaminate powder infant formula, a food matrix with which the pathogen has been epidemiologically associated. Even though clinically adapted strains can also be isolated, there is no information on how the clinical strains adapt to low moisture environments. Our research assessed the adaptation of a clinically isolated strain to low moisture survival on sterile stainless steel coupons and compared the survival with that of a highly desiccation-tolerant environmental strain. We found that, even though the clinical strain is desiccation-tolerant, the rate of tolerance was compromised compared with that of the environmental strain. A deeper investigation using RNA-seq identified that the clinical strain used pathways different from that of the environmental strain to adapt to low-moisture conditions. This shows that the adaptation to desiccation conditions, at least for C. sakazakii, is strain-specific and that different strains have used different evolutionary strategies for adaptation.

The acetylene-vinylidene system serves as a benchmark for investigations of ultrafast dynamical processes where the coupling of the electronic and nuclear degrees of freedom provides a fertile playground to explore the femto- and sub-femto-second physics with coherent extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) photon sources both on the table-top as well as free-electron lasers. We focus on detailed investigations of this molecular system in the photon energy range 19-40 eV where EUV pulses can probe the dynamics effectively. We employ photoelectron-photoion coincidence (PEPICO) spectroscopy to uncover hitherto unrevealed aspects of this system. In this work, the role of excited states of the C2H2+ cation, the primary photoion, is specifically addressed. From photoelectron energy spectra and angular distributions, the nature of the dissociation and isomerization channels is discerned. Exploiting the 4π-collection geometry of the velocity map imaging spectrometer, we not only probe pathways where the efficiency of photoionization is inherently high but also perform PEPICO spectroscopy on relatively weak channels.

As mass COVID-19 vaccination is underway, radiologists are encountering transient FDG uptake in normal or enlarged axillary, supraclavicular, and cervical lymph nodes after ipsilateral deltoid vaccination. This phenomenon may confound interpretation in patients with cancer undergoing FDG PET/CT. In this article, we present our institutional approach for management of COVID-19 vaccine-related lymphadenopathy on FDG PET/CT according to early experience. We suggest performing PET/CT at least 2 weeks after vaccination in patients with a cancer for which interpretation is anticipated to be potentially impacted by the vaccination but optimally 4-6 weeks after vaccination given increased immunogenicity of mRNA vaccines and potentially longer time for resolution than lymphadenopathy after other vaccines. PET/CT should not be delayed when clinically indicated to be performed sooner. Details regarding vaccination should be collected at the time of PET/CT to facilitate interpretation. Follow-up recommendations for postvaccination lymphadenopathy are provided, considering the lymph node's morphology and likely clinical relevance. Consideration should be given to administering the vaccine in the arm contralateral to a unilateral cancer to avoid confounding FDG uptake on the side of cancer. Our preliminary experience and suggested institutional approach should guide radiologists in management of patients with cancer undergoing PET/CT after COVID-19 vaccination.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Data are lacking on distribution of size of fragments created with the laser lithotripsy, stone density, and composition. Dust (< 1 mm) and small fragments (1-3 mm) may be too small to be efficiently removed with forceps compared to larger fragments (> 3 mm). We aim to report the size distribution of fragments formed during holmium laser lithotripsy. RECENT FINDINGS: One hundred ten patients with renal calculi < 3 cm underwent miniPCNL using ClearPetra sheath (Well Lead Medical Co., China) with controllable irrigation and suction system that minimizes fragment dispersion and maximizes fragment aspiration. Moses holmium laser (Lumenis INC, Israel) was used with predefined laser energy settings for lithotripsy. Proportion of fragment size < 1 mm was 46.36 ± 16.68%, 1-3 mm was 28.18 ± 10.01%, and > 3 mm was 25.19 ± 16.18% for the entire cohort. Complete stone clearance at 48 h was achieved in 77.3% cases. The remaining 22.7% patients had complete clearance at 1-month follow-up CT. In all the stone density, volume, and composition groups, majority of fragments created were either < 1 mm or 1-3 mm. Only 25% fragments were > 3 mm that would get aspirated out through the sheath with suction or could be retrieved with forceps. The combination of a high-power holmium laser and suction would help in complete stone clearance with effective aspiration of smaller stone fragments and dust simultaneously during lasing.

The amplitude-dependent frequency of the oscillations, termed nonisochronicity, is one of the essential characteristics of nonlinear oscillators. In this paper, the dynamics of the Rössler oscillator in the presence of nonisochronicity is examined. In particular, we explore the appearance of a new fixed point and the emergence of a coexisting limit-cycle and quasiperiodic attractors. We also describe the sequence of bifurcations leading to synchronized, desynchronized attractors and oscillation death states in the coupled Rössler oscillators as a function of the strength of nonisochronicity and coupling parameters. Furthermore, we characterize the multistability of the coexisting attractors by plotting the basins of attraction. Our results open up the possibilities of understanding the emergence of coexisting attractors and into a qualitative change of the collective states in coupled nonlinear oscillators in the presence of nonisochronicity.

The objective of the study was to propose a model for a community-based breeding programme (CBBP) in Malpura sheep. The study was carried out for nine years (2012-2018) in 31 villages covering 77 flocks. The average flock size was 54.39 ± 0.65. The study revealed that the Malpura sheep is a long-day breeder with 72.1% of lambing during August to January. The higher concentration of lambing in this period is to avoid the stress of harsh summer and scarcity of feed. The disposal pattern of male lambs was stringent due to selection. Only 3.1% of male lambs reach to adult stage. For females, the replacement rate was 34.11%. The live weights (kg) from 8,263 lambs were 3.34 ± 0.01, 14.61 ± 0.04, 20.48 ± 0.07 and 30.01 ± 0.16, for birth, three-, six- and 12-month age, respectively. Non-genetic factors such as sex, season and year of birth and flock significantly influenced growth. The heritability was 0.20 ± 0.03, 0.20 ± 0.008, 0.23 ± 0.004 and 0.17 ± 0.009 for birth, three-, six- and 12-month weight, respectively. This indicated scope for genetic improvement, given a systematic breeding programme, is in place. The present model followed by sheep breeders is highly dependent upon the Government aided Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute (CSWRI) for supply of breeding rams, data collection and health care. Alternate self-sustainable model of CBBP is proposed wherein a breeder's organization leads the way to establish a ram-rearing centre (RRC), teams of experts for ram selection, data collection and market linkage. CSWRI will continue to assist for selection decisions and real-time data entry using a cloud-based "Avimegh" platform. The early selection of 5% male lambs at weaning and rearing them at RRC until final selection at 12-month will provide unbiased selection of rams under CBBP. The surplus rams will be sold by RRC for profit. Several key measures such as micro-finance, co-ordination between stakeholders, market linkage and technical input for data collection and selection have been suggested to make the CBBP self-sustainable.
