RESUMO

In conventional superconductors, the phase transition into a zero-resistance and perfectly diamagnetic state is accompanied by a jump in the specific heat and the opening of a spectral gap1. In the high-transition-temperature (high-Tc) cuprates, although the transport, magnetic and thermodynamic signatures of Tc have been known since the 1980s2, the spectroscopic singularity associated with the transition remains unknown. Here we resolve this long-standing puzzle with a high-precision angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) study on overdoped (Bi,Pb)2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi2212). We first probe the momentum-resolved electronic specific heat via spectroscopy and reproduce the specific heat peak at Tc, completing the missing link for a holistic description of superconductivity. Then, by studying the full momentum, energy and temperature evolution of the spectra, we reveal that this thermodynamic anomaly arises from the singular growth of in-gap spectral intensity across Tc. Furthermore, we observe that the temperature evolution of in-gap intensity is highly anisotropic in the momentum space, and the gap itself obeys both the d-wave functional form and particle-hole symmetry. These findings support the scenario that the superconducting transition is driven by phase fluctuations. They also serve as an anchor point for understanding the Fermi arc and pseudogap phenomena in underdoped cuprates.

RESUMO

In conventional superconductors, electron-phonon coupling plays a dominant role in generating superconductivity. In high-temperature cuprate superconductors, the existence of electron coupling with phonons and other boson modes and its role in producing high-temperature superconductivity remain unclear. The evidence of electron-boson coupling mainly comes from angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) observations of [Formula: see text]70-meV nodal dispersion kink and [Formula: see text]40-meV antinodal kink. However, the reported results are sporadic and the nature of the involved bosons is still under debate. Here we report findings of ubiquitous two coexisting electron-mode couplings in cuprate superconductors. By taking ultrahigh-resolution laser-based ARPES measurements, we found that the electrons are coupled simultaneously with two sharp modes at [Formula: see text]70meV and [Formula: see text]40meV in different superconductors with different dopings, over the entire momentum space and at different temperatures above and below the superconducting transition temperature. These observations favor phonons as the origin of the modes coupled with electrons and the observed electron-mode couplings are unusual because the associated energy scales do not exhibit an obvious energy shift across the superconducting transition. We further find that the well-known "peak-dip-hump" structure, which has long been considered a hallmark of superconductivity, is also omnipresent and consists of "peak-double dip-double hump" finer structures that originate from electron coupling with two sharp modes. These results provide a unified picture for the [Formula: see text]70-meV and [Formula: see text]40-meV energy scales and their evolutions with momentum, doping and temperature. They provide key information to understand the origin of these energy scales and their role in generating anomalous normal state and high-temperature superconductivity.

RESUMO

Background Microwave ablation (MWA) is currently under preliminary investigation for the treatment of multifocal papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and has shown promising treatment efficacy. Compared with surgical resection (SR), MWA is minimally invasive and could preserve thyroid function. However, a comparative analysis between MWA and SR is warranted to draw definitive conclusions. Purpose To compare MWA and SR for preoperative US-detected T1N0M0 multifocal PTC in terms of overall and 1-, 3-, and 5-year progression-free survival rates and complication rates. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, 775 patients with preoperative US-detected T1N0M0 multifocal PTC treated with MWA or SR across 10 centers between May 2015 and December 2021 were included. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed for patients in the MWA and SR groups, followed by comparisons between the two groups. The primary outcomes were overall and 1-, 3-, and 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) rates and complication rates. Results After PSM, 229 patients (median age, 44 years [IQR 36.5-50.5 years]; 179 female) in the MWA group and 453 patients (median age, 45 years [IQR 37-53 years]; 367 female) in the SR group were observed for a median of 20 months (range, 12-74 months) and 26 months (range, 12-64 months), respectively. MWA resulted in less blood loss, shorter incision length, and shorter procedure and hospitalization durations (all P < .001). There was no evidence of differences in overall and 1-, 3-, or 5-year PFS rates (all P > .05) between MWA and SR (5-year rate, 77.2% vs 83.1%; P = .36) groups. Permanent hoarseness (2.2%, P = .05) and hypoparathyroidism (4.0%, P = .005) were encountered only in the SR group. Conclusion There was no evidence of a significant difference in PFS rates between MWA and SR for US-detected multifocal T1N0M0 PTC, and MWA resulted in fewer complications. Therefore, MWA is a feasible option for selected patients with multifocal T1N0M0 PTC. © RSNA, 2024 Supplemental material is available for this article. RESUMO

The research on systems with coexistence of superconductivity and nontrivial band topology has attracted widespread attention. However, the limited availability of material platforms severely hinders the research progress. Here, it reports the first experimental synthesis and measurement of high-quality single crystal van der Waals transition-metal dichalcogenide InNbS2 , revealing it as a topological nodal line semimetal with coexisting superconductivity. The temperature-dependent measurements of magnetization susceptibility and electrical transport show that InNbS2 is a type-II superconductor with a transition temperature Tc of 6 K. First-principles calculations predict multiple topological nodal ring states close to the Fermi level in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. Similar features are also observed in the as-synthesized BiNbS2 and PbNbS2 samples. This work provides new material platforms ANbS2 (A = In, Bi, and Pb) and uncovers their intriguing potential for exploring the interplay between superconductivity and band topology.

RESUMO

The yak is a unique creature that thrives in low-oxygen environments, showcasing its adaptability to high-altitude settings with limited oxygen availability due to its unique respiratory system. However, the impact of hypoxia on alveolar type II (AT2) epithelial cell proliferation in yaks remains unexplored. In this study, we investigated the effects of different altitudes on 6-month-old yaks and found an increase in alveolar septa thickness and AT2 cell count in a high-altitude environment characterized by hypoxia. This was accompanied by elevated levels of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression. Additionally, we observed a significant rise in Ki67-positive cells and apoptotic lung epithelial cells among yaks inhabiting higher altitudes. Our in vitro experiments demonstrated that exposure to hypoxia activated HIF-1α, EGF, and EGFR expression leading to increased proliferation rates among yak AT2 cells. Under normal oxygen conditions, activation of HIF-1α enhanced EGF/EGFR expressions which subsequently stimulated AT2 cell proliferation. Furthermore, activation of EGFR expression under normoxic conditions further promoted AT2 cell proliferation while simultaneously suppressing apoptosis. Conversely, inhibition of EGFR expression under hypoxic conditions had contrasting effects. In summary, hypoxia triggers the proliferation of yak AT2 cells via activation facilitated by the HIF-1α/EGF/EGFR signaling cascade.

RESUMO

In kagome metal CsV_{3}Sb_{5}, multiple intertwined orders are accompanied by both electronic and structural instabilities. These exotic orders have attracted much recent attention, but their origins remain elusive. The newly discovered CsTi_{3}Bi_{5} is a Ti-based kagome metal to parallel CsV_{3}Sb_{5}. Here, we report angle-resolved photoemission experiments and first-principles calculations on pristine and Cs-doped CsTi_{3}Bi_{5} samples. Our results reveal that the van Hove singularity (vHS) in CsTi_{3}Bi_{5} can be tuned in a large energy range without structural instability, different from that in CsV_{3}Sb_{5}. As such, CsTi_{3}Bi_{5} provides a complementary platform to disentangle and investigate the electronic instability with a tunable vHS in kagome metals.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Microwave ablation (MWA) has been widely used for unifocal papillary thyroid carcinoma (U-PTC) and has recently been preliminarily used in multifocal papillary thyroid carcinoma (M-PTC). However, the efficacy and safety of MWA for M-PTC have not been investigated in large samples. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MWA for M-PTC and compare them with MWA for U-PTC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective multicentre study enrolled 504 patients (376 females) who underwent MWA for U-PTC (340 cases) or M-PTC (164 cases) from Jan 2015 to Dec 2020. The median age of the patients was 43 years (age range, 20-80 years). Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance the baseline characteristics between M-PTC group and U-PTC group. The tumour progression, tumour disappearance, and complication rates were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The complete ablation was achieved in all enrolled cases in one session. According to the statistical results, no significant differences were shown in tumour progression-free survival (p  = 0.29) or cumulative tumour progression rate (6.7% vs. 4.3%, p  = 0.33) between the M-PTC and U-PTC groups during the follow-up time. However, the tumour disappearance rate in the M-PTC group was lower in the U-PTC group (40.9% vs. 62.8%, p < 0.001), and tumour disappearance was slower in the M-PTC group (p < 0.001). The complication rate showed no significant difference (3.0% vs. 4.9%, p  = 0.571). CONCLUSIONS: MWA is an effective and safe treatment for selected patients with M-PTC, and the prognosis is similar to that of U-PTC. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: The present study provided evidence that compared with unifocal papillary thyroid cancer, microwave ablation could also treat multifocal T1N0M0 papillary thyroid cancer safely with similar clinical outcome, which could promote the application of minimally invasive treatment for papillary thyroid cancer. KEY RESULTS: • Microwave ablation for multifocal and unifocal T1N0M0 papillary thyroid carcinoma had similar tumour progression rates after propensity score matching (6.7% vs. 4.3%, p = 0.33). • The tumour disappearance rate in the multifocal group was lower than that in the unifocal group (40.9% vs. 62.8%, p < 0.001), and tumour disappearance was slower in the multifocal group (p < 0.001). • Tumour size, number, and location were not risk factors for tumour progression in the multifocal papillary thyroid cancer group.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To assess the safety and efficacy of ultrasound-guided thermal ablation for low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) via a prospective multicenter study. METHODS: From January 2017 through June 2021, low-risk PTMC patients were screened. The management details of active surveillance (AS), surgery, and thermal ablation were discussed. Among patients who accepted thermal ablation, microwave ablation (MWA) was performed. The main outcome was disease-free survival (DFS). The secondary outcomes were tumor size and volume changes, local tumor progression (LTP), lymph node metastasis (LNM), and complication rate. RESULTS: A total of 1278 patients were included in the study. The operation time of ablation was 30.21 ± 5.14 min with local anesthesia. The mean follow-up time was 34.57 ± 28.98 months. Six patients exhibited LTP at 36 months, of whom 5 patients underwent a second ablation, and 1 patient received surgery. The central LNM rate was 0.39% at 6 months, 0.63% at 12 months, and 0.78% at 36 months. Of the 10 patients with central LNM at 36 months, 5 patients chose ablation, 3 patients chose surgery and the other 2 patients chose AS. The overall complication rate was 1.41%, and 1.10% of patients developed hoarseness of the voice. All of the patients recovered within 6 months. CONCLUSIONS: Thermal ablation of low-risk PTMC was observed to be safe and efficacious with few minor complications. This technique may help to bridge the gap between surgery and AS as treatment options for patients wishing to have their PTMC managed in a minimally invasive manner. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: This study proved that microwave ablation is a safe and effective treatment method for papillary thyroid microcarcinoma. KEY POINTS: Percutaneous US-guided microwave ablation of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma is a very minimally invasive treatment under local anesthesia during a short time period. The local tumor progression and complication rate of microwave ablation in the treatment of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma are very low.

RESUMO

The resistance of a conventional insulator diverges as temperature approaches zero. The peculiar low-temperature resistivity saturation in the 4f Kondo insulator (KI) SmB6 has spurred proposals of a correlation-driven topological Kondo insulator (TKI) with exotic ground states. However, the scarcity of model TKI material families leaves difficulties in disentangling key ingredients from irrelevant details. Here we use angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) to study FeSb2, a correlated d-electron KI candidate that also exhibits a low-temperature resistivity saturation. On the (010) surface, we find a rich assemblage of metallic states with two-dimensional dispersion. Measurements of the bulk band structure reveal band renormalization, a large temperature-dependent band shift, and flat spectral features along certain high-symmetry directions, providing spectroscopic evidence for strong correlations. Our observations suggest that exotic insulating states resembling those in SmB6 and YbB12 may also exist in systems with d instead of f electrons.

RESUMO

Fermi surface (FS) topology is a fundamental property of metals and superconductors. In electron-doped cuprate Nd2-x Ce x CuO4 (NCCO), an unexpected FS reconstruction has been observed in optimal- and overdoped regime (x = 0.15-0.17) by quantum oscillation measurements (QOM). This is all the more puzzling because neutron scattering suggests that the antiferromagnetic (AFM) long-range order, which is believed to reconstruct the FS, vanishes before x = 0.14. To reconcile the conflict, a widely discussed external magnetic-field-induced AFM long-range order in QOM explains the FS reconstruction as an extrinsic property. Here, we report angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) evidence of FS reconstruction in optimal- and overdoped NCCO. The observed FSs are in quantitative agreement with QOM, suggesting an intrinsic FS reconstruction without field. This reconstructed FS, despite its importance as a basis to understand electron-doped cuprates, cannot be explained under the traditional scheme. Furthermore, the energy gap of the reconstruction decreases rapidly near x = 0.17 like an order parameter, echoing the quantum critical doping in transport. The totality of the data points to a mysterious order between x = 0.14 and 0.17, whose appearance favors the FS reconstruction and disappearance defines the quantum critical doping. A recent topological proposal provides an ansatz for its origin.

RESUMO

The yak is an agricultural animal with strong disease resistance in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Immune organs are directly involved in the body's immune response and protect it from external aggression. In this study, we characterized and evaluated the main markers of interleukin (IL)-1ß, IL-17a, hypoxia inducer factor-1 (HIF-1)α, and heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) in the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, and hemal nodes of adult yaks using network informatics, molecular cloning, immunohistochemistry, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), and western blotting. We first cloned the IL-1ß and IL-17a mRNA of yaks. A significant feature was the higher IL-1ß and IL-17a expression in the lymph nodes than in the spleen, hemal nodes, and thymus. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence revealed that IL-1ß and IL-17a cells were mainly located in the paracortex area of the lymph nodes and the T-cell-dependent area in the hemal nodes and spleen. Several HIF-1α proteins were detected in the cortex of the hemal nodes mantle, while HSP90 was detected in the lymphoid nodules of the hemal nodes and lymph nodes. This study sheds light on the relationship between the morphology and function of these organs and provides an important reference for studies on the participation of yak immune organs in immune responses.

RESUMO

We investigated the structural features of arterial blood vessels in yak uterine caruncle and the effects of the expression of vascular regulation-related factors on angiogenesis in pregnant and non-pregnant yak uterus. Three-dimensional specimens of the uterine artery of non-pregnant and pregnant yaks were produced to observe and measure the distribution characteristics and number of arterial vessels in the uterus and caruncle in the two periods. The uterine caruncle structure was observed and analysed by haematoxylin-eosin staining. The expression features of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) in the uterine caruncle were detected with immunohistochemistry, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blotting. The length and number of blood vessels in the caruncle were increased, the degree of curvature was decreased, and the folding was more complicated during pregnancy as compared with that during non-pregnancy. The immunohistochemical results demonstrated that VEGF and Ang-1 were mainly expressed strongly in the mucosal epithelial cytoplasm. The glandular lumen of the uterine gland, lymphocytes and the media and adventitia of blood vessels are widely distributed, and they are all positive. VEGF and Ang-1 mRNA and protein levels were highest in pregnancy, followed by that in the luteal phase and in the follicular phase, and three stages were significantly different (p < .05). These findings provide an anatomical reference and theoretical basis for improving the diagnosis and treatment of yak reproductive disorders and other diseases in high-altitude and low-oxygen environments.

RESUMO

Background Microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) have recently attracted interest as minimally invasive treatment modalities for papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). However, the ablation outcomes of T1N0M0 PTC are not well characterized. Purpose To evaluate the efficacy and safety of thermal ablation (MWA or RFA) of solitary T1N0M0 PTC in patients who were ineligible for (due to presence of comorbid cardiovascular disease, renal failure, other malignancy, etc) or who refused surgery. Materials and Methods This was a retrospective multicenter study of 847 patients (660 women) who underwent thermal ablation for PTC (673 T1a, 174 T1b) between March 2015 and March 2020; of these patients, 645 underwent MWA and 202 underwent RFA. The mean age of patients was 46 years ± 11 (standard deviation) (age range, 18-81 years); the mean follow-up time was 22 months ± 13 (range, 6-60 months). Changes in tumor size and volume and the rates of technical success, tumor disappearance, disease progression, and complications were assessed. Results The technical success rate was 100%. Relative to preablation measurements, the maximum diameter and volume of the ablation zone increased during the 1st month after ablation (P < .001), whereas there was no difference by the 3rd month; subsequently, the tumors showed reduction in size at 6, 9, and 12 months (all P < .001). Complete disappearance of tumors occurred in 68% of patients (577 of 847; 69% [466 of 673] in the T1a group vs 64% [111 of 174] in the T1b group; P < .001). The postablation disease progression rate was 1.1% (nine of 847 patients; 0.9% [six of 673 patients] in the T1a group vs 1.7% [three of 174 patients] in the T1b group; P = .54). The overall complication rate was 3.4% (29 of 847 patients; 2.7% [18 of 673 patients] in the T1a group vs 6.3% [11 of 174 patients] in the T1b group; P = .02). Conclusion This multicenter study provided evidence that thermal ablation is an effective and safe treatment option in selected -patients with solitary T1N0M0 papillary thyroid carcinoma. © RSNA, 2021 Online supplemental material is available for this article. RESUMO

We report angle resolved photoemission experiments on a newly discovered family of kagome metals RV_{6}Sn_{6} (R=Gd, Ho). Intrinsic bulk states and surface states of the vanadium kagome layer are differentiated from those of other atomic sublattices by the real-space resolution of the measurements with a small beam spot. Characteristic Dirac cone, saddle point, and flat bands of the kagome lattice are observed. Our results establish the two-dimensional (2D) kagome surface states as a new platform to investigate the intrinsic kagome physics.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical outcomes of microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT). METHOD: This retrospective study included 104 pHPT patients treated by MWA or RFA between January 2015 and March 2020 in four centers. The clinical outcomes including effectiveness and complications were compared between the two groups. Ablation cure was defined as the reestablishment of normal values of serum calcium and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) at least more than 6 months. Clinical cure was defined as the reestablishment of normal values of serum calcium and iPTH throughout the entire follow-up period. RESULTS: A total of 77 patients underwent MWA (mean age, 55.5 ± 16.4 years) and 27 underwent RFA (mean age, 58.9 ± 15.6 years). During the follow-up (median, 18.7 months in the MWA group; 12 months in the RFA group), no difference was observed between ablation cure rates (88.3% vs. 88.9%, p = 1.000), clinical cure rates (87.0% vs. 82.3%, p = .880), recurrent pHPT (5.2% vs. 3.7%, p = .447), persistent pHPT (11.7% vs. 11.1%, p = 1.000) and complication rate (9.1% vs. 3.7%, p = .677). A maximum diameter less than 0.7 cm was an independent prognostic factor of uncured pHPT in ablation (hazard ratio, 0.1; 95% confidence interval: 0.02, 0.54; p = .007). Major complication - voice change encountered in five patients (6.5%) in the MWA group and in one patient (3.7%) in the RFA group. CONCLUSION: Both RFA and MWA are safe and effective techniques for patients with pHPT, with comparable clinical outcomes.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Ultrasound-guided thermal ablation (including microwave ablation [MWA] and radiofrequency ablation [RFA]) has emerged as a remarkable technology for the treatment of benign and malignant diseases. The objective of this multicenter study was to assess the efficacy and safety of thermal ablation in a large cohort of patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective study of 725 patients who underwent MWA/RFA at 11 centers between March 2015 and March 2020. The mean age of patients was 46 ± 11 years (range, 22-81); the mean follow-up time was 21 ± 13 months (range, 6-60). Changes in size of tumor, the rates of tumor disappearance, disease progression, and complications were assessed. RESULTS: From 6 months post-ablation, the size of tumors was significantly reduced compared with those recorded pre-ablation (p < 0.001 for all). Five hundred and fifteen (71.0%) PTMCs had completely disappeared as assessed by ultrasound examination. Six (0.8%) patients developed disease progression post-ablation; of these, 5 (0.7%) patients developed new PTMCs, while one (0.1%) patient developed cervical lymph node metastasis. Nineteen (2.6%) patients developed complications post-ablation; of these 14 (1.9%) patients developed voice hoarseness, 4 (0.6%) developed hematoma, and one (0.1%) patient developed cough. CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound-guided thermal ablation represents an effective and safe treatment for patients with PTMC besides active surveillance and surgery.

RESUMO

The goal of this study was to characterize and evaluate the main markers of macrophages, T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes and plasmocytes in the testis of juvenile and adult yaks by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry. Within the same age group, the mRNA expression of CD68 was always highest, followed by that of CD3ε, CD79α, IgG and IgA. Moreover, CD68, CD3, CD79α, IgA and IgG positive cells were all located in the testicular interstitial tissues of juvenile and adult yaks. In the same age group, the frequency of CD68 positive macrophages was higher than that of CD3 positive T lymphocytes, which was followed by that of CD79α positive B lymphocytes and IgA and IgG positive plasmocytes. No significant difference was observed between the B lymphocyte and plasmocyte frequencies in yak testes. Furthermore, CD68, CD3ε, CD79α, IgA and IgG mRNA expression levels and the frequencies of CD68, CD3, CD79α, IgA and IgG positive cells increased from juveniles to adults. Similarly, the frequencies of CD68, CD3, CD79α, IgA and IgG positive cells also increased with age. These results suggest that in the yak testis, the immune defence system against pathogens might primarily comprise macrophages and T lymphocytes in the testicular interstitial tissue. Moreover, the testicular immune environment may mature and expand to a fully functional state in adult yaks. The low frequencies of B lymphocyte and plasmocyte in yaks, differing from those in rodents and humans, might be related to the fact that yaks live in low-oxygen plateaus.

RESUMO

Little is known about lymphoid organ development in yaks. In this study, we characterize and evaluate the main markers of T cell, B cell, plasma cell and antigen-presenting cell in the mesenteric lymph nodes, spleen and hemal node in newborn, juvenile and adult yaks by immunohistochemistry, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. The structures of all organs were not fully developed in newborn. The CD3+ cells were mainly located in the paracortex area of the mesenteric lymph node and the T cell dependent area in the hemal node and spleen. CD79a+ cells were mainly detected in the lymphoid follicles. The expression of CD3 and CD79a increased from newborn to juvenile and then decreased in adults. The expression of CD3 was always higher in the spleen and CD79a was higher in the mesenteric lymph node. IgG+ and IgA+ cells were observed in all examined samples, except in newborn yak hemal node. IgG and IgA were up-regulated with age and the highest expression was observed in the mesenteric lymph node. The SIRPα and CD68 were widely expressed. A significant feature was that the SIRPα expression in the spleen was lowest in newborns but highest in juvenile and adult yaks. The expression of CD68 in the hemal node was highest in all groups and increased from newborn to adult yaks. This study sheds light on the relationship between the morphology and function of these organs and provides useful references for normal yak lymphoid organ development.

RESUMO

Recently discovered alongside its sister compounds KV_{3}Sb_{5} and RbV_{3}Sb_{5}, CsV_{3}Sb_{5} crystallizes with an ideal kagome network of vanadium and antimonene layers separated by alkali metal ions. This work presents the electronic properties of CsV_{3}Sb_{5}, demonstrating bulk superconductivity in single crystals with a T_{c}=2.5 K. The normal state electronic structure is studied via angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density-functional theory, which categorize CsV_{3}Sb_{5} as a Z_{2} topological metal. Multiple protected Dirac crossings are predicted in close proximity to the Fermi level (E_{F}), and signatures of normal state correlation effects are also suggested by a high-temperature charge density wavelike instability. The implications for the formation of unconventional superconductivity in this material are discussed.

RESUMO

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and 17ß-estradiol (E2) are sex hormones that regulate human hair follicle (HF) growth and are produced by peripheral reduction and aromatization of testosterone. However, the expression patterns of DHT and E2 synthesis-related proteins and their receptors in male yak skin during different HF stages (telogen, anagen, and catagen) are unknown. In this study, we found that both 5α-red and androgen receptor (AR) were expressed in epithelial cells and AR was expressed in the dermal papilla. Additionally, the transcription level of 5α-red1 at different HF stages was significantly higher than that of 5α-red2 mRNA at the same stage; 5α-red1 and 5α-red2 proteins peaked during the anagen and telogen periods of HF, respectively. However, AR protein was only expressed in the skin during the anagen phase of HF. Aromatase and estrogen receptors (ERα and ERß) were expressed in cutaneous epithelial cells, whereas ERα and ERß were expressed in the dermal papilla; the transcription level of ERα in HFs at each stage was much higher than that of ERß. From the catagen to telogen phase, aromatase protein expression was down-regulated, while ERα protein expression was up-regulated. Based on our results, we speculate that 5α-red1 is essential for the synthesis of DHT in male yak skin epithelial cells and promotes the growth of HFs through AR. E2 synthesized by male yak skin epithelial cells may inhibit the growth of male yak skin HFs by ERα. These results provide a foundation for further study on the mechanism of hormone-regulated male yak skin HFs.
