RESUMO

Microbes can affect the metabolism and immunity of human body incessantly, and the dysbiosis of human microbiome drives not only the occurrence but also the progression of disease (i.e. multiple statuses of disease). Recently, microbiome-based association tests have been widely developed to detect the association between the microbiome and host phenotype. However, the existing methods have not achieved satisfactory performance in testing the association between the microbiome and ordinal/nominal multicategory phenotypes (e.g. disease severity and tumor subtype). In this paper, we propose an optimal microbiome-based association test for multicategory phenotypes, namely, multiMiAT. Specifically, under the multinomial logit model framework, we first introduce a microbiome regression-based kernel association test for multicategory phenotypes (multiMiRKAT). As a data-driven optimal test, multiMiAT then integrates multiMiRKAT, score test and MiRKAT-MC to maintain excellent performance in diverse association patterns. Massive simulation experiments prove the success of our method. Furthermore, multiMiAT is also applied to real microbiome data experiments to detect the association between the gut microbiome and clinical statuses of colorectal cancer as well as for diverse statuses of Clostridium difficile infections.

RESUMO

The association between the compositions of microbial communities and various host phenotypes is an important research topic. Microbiome association research addresses multiple domains, such as human disease and diet. Statistical methods for testing microbiome-phenotype associations have been studied recently to determine their ability to assess longitudinal microbiome data. However, existing methods fail to detect sparse association signals in longitudinal microbiome data. In this paper, we developed a novel method, namely aGEEMIHC, which is a data-driven adaptive microbiome higher criticism analysis based on generalized estimating equations to detect sparse microbial association signals from longitudinal microbiome data. aGEEMiHC adopts generalized estimating equations framework that fully considers the correlation among different observations from the same subject in longitudinal data. To be robust to diverse correlation structures for longitudinal data, aGEEMiHC integrates multiple microbiome higher criticism analyses based on generalized estimating equations with different working correlation structures. Extensive simulation experiments demonstrate that aGEEMiHC can control the type I error correctly and achieve superior performance according to a statistical power comparison. We also applied it to longitudinal microbiome data with various types of host phenotypes to demonstrate the stability of our method. aGEEMiHC is also utilized for real longitudinal microbiome data, and we found a significant association between the gut microbiome and Crohn's disease. In addition, our method ranks the significant factors associated with the host phenotype to provide potential biomarkers.

RESUMO

Organic-inorganic halide hybrids have been extensively developed and used in optoelectronic devices because of their superior performance such as ease of assembly, flexible structural tunability, and excellent optoelectronic properties. Ferroelastic strain might be used to modulate and control photoelectric properties such as photovoltaic voltage, while organic-inorganic hybrid ferroelastic semiconductors remain relatively unexplored. Herein, we successfully design a new Sn-base, lead-free hybrid ferroelastic semiconductor, [TPMA]2[SnCl6] (TPMA = benzyl trimethylammonium). It undergoes a high-temperature -3mF-1-type ferroelastic phase transition at 408 K, and intriguingly, its ferroelastic domains can be simultaneously switched under the stimulation of external heat and stress. The ferroelastic phase transition might be derived from the order-disorder transition of organic cations during heating and cooling. Moreover, [TPMA]2[SnCl6] also demonstrates a high-temperature dielectric switching property around 408 K, which has good stability and reproducibility. With those benefits, [TPMA]2[SnCl6] shows great potential in applications such as energy storage devices, optoelectronic devices, shape memory, intelligent switches, and so on.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia is a common cause of disability in the aging population, and managing sarcopenia is an important step in building intrinsic capacity and promoting healthy aging. A growing body of evidence suggests that sleep deprivation may be a mediator of the development of sarcopenia. The purpose of this study was to explore the longitudinal association between sleep duration and possible sarcopenia using data from a national sample. METHODS: Two waves of data from the CHARLS database for 2011 and 2015 were used in this study. All possible sarcopenia participants met the Asia Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS 2019) diagnostic criteria. Sleep duration was assessed using a self-report questionnaire, and sleep duration was categorized as short (≤ 6 h), medium (6-8 h), or long (> 8 h) based on previous studies. Longitudinal associations between sleep duration and possible sarcopenia will be calculated by univariate and multifactorial logistic regression analyses and expressed as odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: A total of 5654 individuals participated in the follow-up study, with a prevalence of possible sarcopenia of 53.72% (578) in the short sleep duration group, 38.29% (412) in the medium sleep duration group, and 7.99% (86) in the long sleep duration group. According to the crude model of the second-wave follow-up study, short sleep durations were significantly more strongly associated with possible sarcopenia than were medium and long sleep durations (OR: 1.35, 95% CI: 1.17-1.55, P = 0.000). The association between short sleep duration and possible sarcopenia was maintained even after adjustment for covariates such as age, gender, residence, education level, BMI, smoking status, alcohol consumption and comorbidities (OR: 1.18, 95% CI: 1.02-1.36, P = 0.029). In the subgroup analysis, short sleep duration was associated with low grip strength (OR: 1.20, 95% CI: 1.02-1.41, P = 0.031). CONCLUSIONS: Sleep deprivation may be closely associated with the development of possible sarcopenia in middle-aged and elderly people, which provides new insights and ideas for sarcopenia intervention, and further studies are needed to reveal the underlying mechanisms involved.

RESUMO

The tumour microenvironment (TME) plays a critical role in disease progression in multiple myeloma (MM). This study aimed to present an atlas of MM-TME in disease progression and explore TME-directed therapeutic strategies. We performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) in samples from different disease stages. We validated the findings by bulk RNAseq, flow cytometry (FCM) and in vitro and in vivo functional experiments. We delineated a compromised TME during disease progression, characterized by enrichment of exhausted NK cells and CD8+ T cells and reprogramming of macrophages (MPs). The reprogrammed tumour-associated MPs (TAMs) displayed a mixed phenotype showing both M1 and M2 features, with two TAM clusters exclusively present in the MM stage showing higher M2 scores. We validated the mixed M1/M2 phenotype in TAMs in a clinical cohort and verified phagocytic dysfunction in reprogrammed TAMs. Cellular interaction analysis identified two enriched ligand-receptor pairs between MPs and malignant plasma cells (PCs), including the SIRPA-CD47 pathway suppressing phagocytosis and the CD74-MIF (macrophage inhibitory factor) reshaping the phenotype of MPs. The expression of CD47 and MIF correlated with disease progression and adverse outcomes. We designed a dual-MP-targeted strategy by combining an anti-CD47 antibody and MIF inhibitor to activate phagocytosis and repolarize MP to a functional phenotype and proved its potent antitumour effect in vitro and in vivo. We drafted alterations in MM-TME during disease progression and unravelled TAM's reprogramming. The dual MP-targeted approach blocking both CD47 and MIF showed potent antitumour effects.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in the gastrointestinal tract. METHODS: This study investigated patients (n = 456) with gastrointestinal tract NHL who had been initially treated in our hospital between January 2018 and December 2021. We compared clinical characteristics and prognostic factors according to the anatomic site of involvement and histologic subtypes. RESULTS: Gastrointestinal tract involvement was more common in B-cell than T-cell lymphomas (91.7% versus 8.3%). The intestine (n = 237) involvement was more common than the stomach (n = 219). Patients with T-cell lymphoma were more likely to present with advanced disease and B symptoms than B-cell lymphoma. Subgroup survival analysis was conducted for 358 patients whose follow-up time was more than 2 years, we found that T-cell immunophenotype and elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were independent prognostic factors for survival. Patients with advanced disease were identified as risk factors for relapsed or refractory gastrointestinal tract NHL. CONCLUSIONS: In our subgroup survival analysis, we found that the survival outcomes demonstrated no significant differences between the stomach and intestinal tract NHL. Serum LDH levels and histologic subtypes were independent prognostic factors for the survival of gastrointestinal tract NHL. Advanced diseases were considered risk factors for relapsed or refractory gastrointestinal tract NHL.

RESUMO

The induction of an interferon-mediated response is the first line of defense against pathogens such as viruses. Yet, the dynamics and extent of interferon alpha (IFNα)-induced antiviral genes vary remarkably and comprise three expression clusters: early, intermediate and late. By mathematical modeling based on time-resolved quantitative data, we identified mRNA stability as well as a negative regulatory loop as key mechanisms endogenously controlling the expression dynamics of IFNα-induced antiviral genes in hepatocytes. Guided by the mathematical model, we uncovered that this regulatory loop is mediated by the transcription factor IRF2 and showed that knock-down of IRF2 results in enhanced expression of early, intermediate and late IFNα-induced antiviral genes. Co-stimulation experiments with different pro-inflammatory cytokines revealed that this amplified expression dynamics of the early, intermediate and late IFNα-induced antiviral genes can also be achieved by co-application of IFNα and interleukin1 beta (IL1ß). Consistently, we found that IL1ß enhances IFNα-mediated repression of viral replication. Conversely, we observed that in IL1ß receptor knock-out mice replication of viruses sensitive to IFNα is increased. Thus, IL1ß is capable to potentiate IFNα-induced antiviral responses and could be exploited to improve antiviral therapies.

RESUMO

This study aimed to examine changes in electrolytes and acid-base status in primary and secondary hypokalaemic periodic paralysis (HypoPP), which will help early differential diagnosis of HypoPP. A total of 64 HypoPP patients were enrolled and relevant data from clinical records was collected. Overall, 64 patients (mean age 28.2±7.3 years) of which 58(91%) were males, with 39, 11 and 14 patients, respectively, diagnosed as primary HypoPP, thyrotoxic HypoPP, and other secondary HypoPPs at discharge, were assessed. Those with HypoPP secondary to conditions other than hyperthyroidism were more likely to develop acid-base imbalance (p<0.001); they had higher pH (p=0.046) and HCO3 levels (p=0.014) at baseline, and needed a higher dose of potassium supplement before the serum potassium level returned to normal (p=0.007) and a longer time to regain full muscle strength (p=0.004), compared with those with primary or thyrotoxic HypoPP. Emergent arterial blood gas analysis may aid early differential diagnosis of patients with primary and secondary HypoPP.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To develop the birth weight curve of singleton neonates with a gestational age of 24-42 weeks, and to investigate the regional differences of the birth weight curve. METHODS: A total of 11 maternal and child health hospitals with more than 7 000 neonates delivered annually were selected in 11 cities of China (Haikou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Liuzhou, Guilin, Quanzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Changsha, Ningbo, and Lianyungang), and all live singleton neonates delivered in the 11 hospitals from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2020 were enrolled for the development of birth weight curves. RESULTS: A total of 93 720 singleton neonates with a gestational age of 24-42 weeks from the 11 cities were included in the study. The reference values of the 3rd-97th percentiles of birth weight of singleton neonates for the total of the 11 cities and for each of the 11 cities were established, and the birth weight percentile curves were drawn. The birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in Shenzhen and Quanzhou was almost the same as the average level of the 11 cities; the birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in Haikou, Guangzhou, Guilin, and Liuzhou was slightly lower than the average level of the 11 cities; the birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in Chongqing, Chengdu, and Changsha was slightly higher than the average level of the 11 cities; the birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in Ningbo and Lianyungang was higher than the average level of the 11 cities. The average birth weight curve level of singleton neonates in the 11 cities were very close to that of China Neonatal Cooperation Network in 2011-2014. CONCLUSIONS: The reference values of the 3rd-97th percentiles of birth weight of singleton neonates for the total of the 11 cities and for each of the 11 cities are developed, which can be used as a reference for evaluating the intrauterine growth of singleton neonates in the region. The level of intrauterine growth of neonates in some cities is different from the national level.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To develop the birth weight curves of the Chinese Han (26-41 weeks of gestation) and Zhuang (28-41 weeks of gestation) singleton neonates in 11 cities of China, as well as the birth weight means of full-term neonates of 14 Chinese ethnic groups. METHODS: The live singleton neonates who were born in 11 maternal and child health care hospitals from 11 cities of China between January 2017 and December 2020 were classified according to the mother's ethnic group. Birth weight means were calculated for the full-term neonates of each ethnic group. For the Han and Zhuang singleton neonates with a large sample size, the Lambda-Mu-Sigma (LMS) method was used to establish the birth weight percentile curves of the Han and Zhuang singleton neonates with different gestational ages. RESULTS: A total of 105 365 live singleton neonates were included, among whom the Han neonates had the highest number of 84 851 (26-41 weeks of gestation), followed by the Zhuang neonates (12 803 neonates with a gestational age of 28-41 weeks). The neonates of the other Chinese ethnic groups enrolled were live full-term singleton neonates, with a sample size of more than 100 neonates for each ethnic group. The 3rd-97th percentile curves of birth weight were established for the Han singleton neonates with a gestational age of 26-41 weeks and the Zhuang singleton neonates with a gestational age of 28-41 weeks. The birth weight curves of the Han singleton neonates at each gestational age were higher than those of the Zhuang singleton neonates. Birth weight means (3 199-3 499 g) and standard deviations were determined for 14 Chinese ethnic groups, i.e., Li, Mulao, Zhuang, Yao, Dong, Miao, Han, Buyi, Mongolian, Tujia, Yi, Hui, Man, and Korean ethnic groups. The Li ethnic group had the lowest birth weight, followed by the Mulao, Zhuang, Yao, Dong, Miao, Han, Buyi, Mongolian, Tujia, Yi, Hui, Man, and Korean ethnic groups. CONCLUSIONS: The 3rd-97th percentile curves of birth weight are developed for the Han (26-41 weeks of gestation) and Zhuang (28-41 weeks of gestation) singleton neonates in 11 cities of China, and birth weight means are determined for the full-term neonates of 14 Chinese ethnic groups in 11 cities of China, which provides a reference for evaluating the intrauterine growth of neonates in these ethnic groups.

RESUMO

A novel Gram-staining positive, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile and yellow-pigmented actinobacterium, designated strain WY83T, was isolated from a marine sediment of Indian Ocean. Strain WY83T grew optimally at 30-35 °C, pH 7-8 and with 0-3% (w/v) NaCl. The predominant menaquinones were MK-10, MK-11 and MK-12, and the major fatty acids were C19:1 ω9c/C19:1 ω11c, anteiso-C15:0, C17:0 3OH, and iso-C16:0. The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and one unidentified glycolipid. The cell-wall peptidoglycan contained lysine as a diamino acid. The DNA G + C content was 72.3 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and ninety-two bacterial core genes indicated that strain WY83T formed an evolutionary lineage with Chryseoglobus frigidaquae JCM 14730T, Chryseoglobus indicus CTD02-10-2T, Yonghaparkia alkaliphila JCM 15138T, Microcella alkaliphila DSM 18851T and Microcella putealis DSM 19627T within the radiation enclosing members of the family Microbacteriaceae. All pairwise percentage of conserved proteins between strain WY83T and the closely related phylogenetic neighbors were greater than 65%. The average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values were both below the thresholds used for the delineation of a new species. On the basis of the evidence presented, strains WY83T, Y. alkaliphila JCM 15138T, C. frigidaquae JCM 14730T, M. alkaliphila DSM 18851T and M. putealis DSM 19627T should belong to different species of the same genus. Strain WY83T represents a novel species of the genus Microcella, for which the name Microcella flavibacter sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is WY83T (= KCTC 39637T = MCCC 1A07099T). Furthermore, Chryseoglobus frigidaquae, Chryseoglobus indicus, and Yonghaparkia alkaliphila were reclassified as Microcella frigidaquae comb. nov., Microcella indica nom. nov., and Microcella alkalica nom. nov., respectively.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Telomerase gene variants that lead to accelerated telomere shortening are linked to progressive-fibrosing interstitial lung diseases. However, little is known about their relationships with pneumoconiosis. This study aimed to identify TERT/TERC variants and leucocyte telomere lengths (LTL) in patients with silicosis or asbestosis. METHODS: In the present study, Sanger sequencing of TERT/TERC variants was performed in 193 Chinese Han patients with pneumoconiosis, including 109 with silicosis and 84 with asbestosis. Quantitative PCR was used to measure LTL in peripheral blood of the patients and 200 age and sex-matched healthy controls. RESULTS: In total, 7.3% patients with pneumoconiosis had 17 TERT/TERC variants. Among which 8.3% of patients with silicosis and 3.6% of patients with asbestosis had TERT variants, respectively. No TERC variants were detected in silicosis, whereas 3.6% of patients with asbestosis had TERC variants. Telomeres were significantly shorter in the patients with pneumoconiosis compared with healthy controls (p<0.001). No significant differences in LTL were found between TERT/TERC variant carriers and non-carriers. Exposure to silica dust was associated with the severity of pneumoconiosis after adjusting for covariates (OR 4.92, p=0.002). However, TERT/TERC variants and short telomeres were not associated with the severity of pneumoconiosis. CONCLUSION: Telomerase gene variants and short telomeres may be identified in the patients with silicosis and asbestosis in response to the exposure to silica or asbestos dust but are not related to disease severity.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The efficacy of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on visceral adipose tissue (VAT) yielded conflicting results. This meta-analysis was performed to assess whether OSA treatment with CPAP could reduce VAT. METHODS: The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science were searched before April 2019. Information on characteristics of study participants, pre- and post-CPAP treatment of VAT, and study design was utilized for analysis. Standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to fully analyze the overall effects. Eleven studies were obtained and the meta-analysis was performed using RevMan v.5.2 and STATA 12.0. RESULTS: A total of 11 studies (16 cohorts) were pooled into meta-analysis, which included 398 patients. The value of VAT before and after CPAP treatment showed no change in OSA patients (SMD = - 0.02, 95% CI - 0.16 to 0.12, z = 0.24, p = 0.81). Subgroup analyses were further conducted, which revealed that age, gender distribution, baseline body mass index, daily duration, CPAP therapy duration, measure, sample size, and study design did not affect the results. CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis revealed that CPAP therapy has no effect on VAT in OSA patients. Further large-scale, well-designed randomized controlled trials are required to address this issue.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and OSA-associated chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) have been suggested to be associated with increased risk of liver disease. Little is known about the biological pathophysiology and underlying molecular mechanisms. Here we use whole-genome expression profiling to explore the transcriptomic changes induced by CIH in rat liver. METHODS: Rats (n = 3) were exposed to CIH for 8 weeks and were compared with rats exposed to normoxia (n = 3). Illumina HiSeq 4000 platform was used to examine differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the liver between control group and CIH rat model. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to validate DEGs. Biological functions of DEGs were determined by Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes. RESULTS: Compared with control group, 318 genes were identified to be dysregulated in the liver of CIH rat model, with 211genes upregulated and 107 genes downregulated. Bioinformatics analysis showed that these genes were extensively related to various physiologic processes such as hepatic metabolism, apoptotic process, and oxidative stress. 10 genes with 5 upregulated and 5 downregulated were selected and further verified by qRT-PCR. CONCLUSIONS: CIH resulted in altered gene expression patterns in the liver of rat. The DEGs were related to various physiological and pathological processes in CIH rat liver. These data provide a better understanding of the mechanisms and underlying molecular changes of OSA-related liver disease.

RESUMO

Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most prevalent cancer worldwide. Specially, Hepatitis B viurs X protein (HBx) is a leading factor in the progression of Hepatitis B viurs-related HCC. Nutrient-deprived tumor microenvironment also contributes to tumor development. However, the role of HBx in nutrient-deprived HCC has received little investigation. Here, we show that HBx elevates PINK1-Parkin mediating mitophagy in starvation. HBx not only increases the PINK1/Parkin gene expression but also accelerates Parkin recruitment to partial mitochondria. Further analysis indicates that, HBx either promotes mitochondrial unfolded protein response, with remarkable mitochondrial LONP1 increases, or reduces LONP1 expression in cytosol inducing LONP1-Parkin pathway, both consequently enhancing mitophagy. Moreover, the enhanced mitophagy lowers mitochondrial apoptosis in starved hepatoma cells, and Bax is implied in the machinery. In addition, we define differential centrifuge, 3000 g or 12,000 g to pellet mitochondria, as an effective method to obtain distinct mitochondria. In collect, HBx regulates diverse aspects of LONP1 and Parkin, enhancing mitophagy in starvation. This study may shed new insights into the machinery development of hepatocellular carcinoma.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a recently identified class of regulatory molecules involved in the regulation of numerous biological processes, but their functions in a rat model of chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) remain largely unknown. Therefore, for further investigation, we aimed to explore lncRNA expression profiles and reveal their potential functional roles in rat models of CIH. METHODS: We used a well-established CIH rat model and conducted lncRNA microarray experiments on the heart samples of rats with CIH and under normoxia control. Differentially expressed lncRNAs and mRNAs were identified via fold-change filtering and verified by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Bioinformatics analyses were applied to reveal the potential roles of key lncRNAs. Co-expression analysis was conducted to determine the transcriptional regulatory relationship of lncRNAs and mRNAs between the two groups. RESULTS: Our data indicated that 157 lncRNAs and 319 mRNAs were upregulated, while 132 lncRNAs and 428 mRNAs were downregulated in the rat model of CIH compared with sham control. Pathway analyses showed that 31 pathways involved in upregulated transcripts and 28 pathways involved in downregulated transcripts. Co-expression networks were also constructed to explore the potential roles of differentially expressed lncRNAs on mRNAs. LncRNAs, namely, XR_596701, XR_344474, XR_600374, ENSRNOT00000065561, XR_590196, and XR_597099, were validated by the use of qRT-PCR. CONCLUSIONS: The present study first revealed lncRNAs expression profiles in a rat model of CIH, providing new insight into the pathogenesis of obstructive sleep apnea-induced cardiovascular disease.

RESUMO

Three new ergostane steroids, 7α-acetoxyl-ergosta-5,24(28)-diene-3ß,4ß,20S-triol (1), 7α-acetoxyl-ergosta-5,24(28)-diene-3ß,4ß-diol (2), and 7α-acetoxyl-ergosta-5,24(28)-3ß-ol (3) were isolated from the ethanol extract of stem bark of Dysoxylum mollissimum BI. Structural elucidation of all the compounds was performed by spectral methods such as 1D and 2D (1H-1H COSY, HMQC, and HMBC) NMR spectroscopy, in addition to high resolution mass spectrometry. All the isolated steroids were in vitro evaluated for their anti-inflammatory activity against COX-1 and COX-2. As a result, steroids 1-3 exhibited modest selective inhibition for COX-1 (>60%).

RESUMO

Single cell sequencing (SCS) can be harnessed to acquire the genomes, transcriptomes and epigenomes from individual cells. Next generation sequencing (NGS) technology is the driving force for single cell sequencing. scRNA-seq requires a lengthy pipeline comprising of single cell sorting, RNA extraction, reverse transcription, amplification, library construction, sequencing and subsequent bioinformatic analysis. Computational algorithms are essential to fulfill many tasks of interest using scRNA-seq data. scRNA-seq has already enabled researchers to revisit long-standing questions in cancer biology, including cancer metastasis, heterogeneity and evolution. Circulating Tumor Cells (CTC) are not only an important mechanism for cancer metastasis, but also provide a possibility to diagnose and monitor cancer in a convenient way independent of surgical resection of the cancer.

RESUMO

Phytochemical investigation on the stems of Schisandra glaucescens resulted into the isolation of three new lanostane triterpenoids, 12-hydroxyschiglausin B (1), 12-hydroxykadsuphilactone B (2), and 20R-hydroxyschinalactone C (3). Structural elucidation of all the compounds was accomplished by spectral methods. The isolated compounds were tested in vitro for cytotoxic activities. As a result, triterpenoids 1 and 2 showed cytotoxic activities for all six tested tumor cell lines with IC50 values less than 15 µM.
