RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim: A comparative analysis of the efficiency of the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex for bodybuilders and football referees. Defining factors that are related and those that are not related to their professions that can affect their efficiency of the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: 35 bodybuilders and 41 football referees were randomly selected in different assosiations in Lodz. The study was performed using a questionnaire and tests for the SFTR range of motion of hip joints and also a Shober test. RESULTS: Results: It occurs that statistically the extension, flexion, abduction, external and internal rotation were significant with bodybuilders and the extension and internal rotation movement with the referees. The mean values for the Shober test when moving forward were worse for the test group than man for the control group were correct. Alongside bulking within the test group and control group the range of motion in the hip joint has decreased. The biggest statistical significance has been for the flexion and internal rotation. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: In the group of bodybuilders the restriction appears to be in 5 out of 6 type of movements in the hip joint area: extension, flexion, abduction, internal and external rotation. In the second group, football referees the range of motion forward and internal rotation is restricted. The mobility of the lumbar region in both groups is within the average, but for the bodybuilders at quite low. The efficiency of lumbo-pelvic-hip complex is determined by duration of training, body mass, type of training and also any pain ailments. Bodybuilders have less efficiency of lumbo-pelvic-hip complex.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim: 1. Clinical characteristics of premature babies taking into account the complications of the perinatal period. Determining the importance of physiotherapy and defining its place in the therapeutic process carried out in children born prematurely with varying degrees of biological immaturity. 2. Evaluation of the most commonly used physiotherapeutic methods in premature babies. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Material and methods: The study, using a self-authored survey, included parents of 42 premature babies who were between the ages of 1 and 14 months. RESULTS: Results: As many as 53% of premature babies were born in late preterm (34-36 weeks of pregnancy). 48% of children had low birth weight (1501-2500 grams). The most common complications of the perinatal period among premature babies were respiratory disorders (47%). Physiotherapy of premature babies took place in 50% of the subjects (21 children) due to psychomotor retardation resulting from their biological immaturity. The most commonly used physiotherapeutic method among premature babies was the NDT-Bobath neurodevelopmental method. It was used in as many as 74% of premature babies. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Most premature babies are born in late preterm with low birth weight. Extremely early births are rare. The most common complications of the perinatal period among babies born prematurely are breathing disorders. Most premature babies require physiotherapy, and the main indication for it is psychomotor retardation, resulting from biological immaturity. The most commonly used physiotherapeutic method among premature babies is the NDT-Bobath neurodevelopmental method.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Introducion: The flexion of the knee joints in the movement of the squat may be accompanied by physiological varus deformity that increases smoothly with the lowering of the center of gravity, followed by a return to the starting position. Observing the disturbances of the physiological movement of the knee joints in the frontal plane, the authors correlated them with the mobility of the ankles in the sagittal plane. The aim: To show the relationship of knee joint motion disorders in the frontal plane with the movement of the ankle joints in the sagittal plane in the movement of the squat. The authors asked themselves about the number of subjects with the physiological mobility of both joints in the given planes and in what part of the subjects there are disorders and whether they relate to the ipsi or the contralateral part of the body. There was also the question of whether and in which group there are deviations not meeting the above criteria. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: 20 healthy right-handed men aged 25-35 were examined with physiological mobility of lower limb joints, confirmed in a physiotherapeutic study. Exclusion criteria included: polyarticular laxity, systemic diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis. The subjects performed a three-time squat after putting in the Biomech measuring system inertial sensors on the lower limbs and the pelvis. Assessment was related to the movement of the knee joint in the frontal plane with the movement of the ankle joint in the sagittal plane. RESULTS: Results: Alternating deformity with right knee valgus occurred in 16 people in the right knee joint (80% of subjects) and in 6 men in the left knee joint (30% of subjects). Three subjects (15%) had a degenerative disorder in both knee joints. The others presented physiological mobility or single (not correlating) disturbances in the mobility of selected joints. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The tests confirmed that the ankle joint is functionally connected to the dysfunctional knee joint on the opposite side, despite various surfaces of mutual movement. Dysfunction of the knee joint is about 10 ° reduction of varus deformity during squat during maximum flexion of the knee joint and again varus deformation when lifting the center of gravity, which ends in distortion until the starting position. These deflections are accompanied by a decrease in the opposite ankle extension at the time of knee valgus deformity in the maximum flexion. The above dysfunctions occurred in 100% instability of the non-dominant knee joint, and on the dominant side in 63%.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: The illustration of the ranges of bending the limb during the outflow allowed to divide the study group into two parts. In the majority of respondents, the initial flexion prevailed over the final one. The researchers focused on finding the reasons for the advantage of the final bend over the initial one in 30% of the subjects. The aim: The analysis of the dynamic stride under the control of the MVN Biomech system in the bending of the knee joint of the lateral limb, comparing the preparation to the leg (initial bending) and its ending (final). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: 18 right-handed 25 to 35 year old runners were selected after the following exclusion criteria were applied: polyarticular hypermobility, systemic diseases, Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, post-traumatic instability. The MVN Biomech system assessed the three-dimensional movements of the joints of the free part of the lower limb and pelvis, and the flexibility of the muscles was subject to physiotherapeutic assessment. RESULTS: Results: In 55% of respondents dominated the pattern in which the initial flexion exceeded by min. 10° final bend in both limbs (decreasing type). The researchers focused on finding the reasons for the smaller difference or the advantage of the final bending on both sides in 30% of respondents (mixed type). The comparison of physiotherapeutic examination results and measurements of MVN Biomech showed functional contractures of the tensor fasciae latea muscles in 5 subjects with a mixed type (83% of subjects with a mixed type). CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Contraction of the tensor fasciae latae constrained the initial flexion of the knee joint of the lateral limb, and also increased bilateral visitation of the hip joints during the dynamic mixed-type twitch. The remaining muscles of the lower limbs show no statistically significant differences in elasticity compared to the type of the leg.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: Degenerative spine's changes affect about 50% of population over 55 and 100% of people aged over 65. The disease is clinically manifested by joints' pain and limitation of their motor function. It is also one of the most common reasons for absenteeism at work. The aim: To estimate the therapeutic effect of 10 whole-body cryotherapy treatments associated with kinesitherapy on the severity of pain and range of motion of the lumbar spine on the example of patients with degenerative spine disease. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Material and Methods: The study was conducted on the group of 48 patients who underwent physiotherapy at the Center for Prevention and Rehabilitation CREATOR. The group of patients under examination consisted of 24 patients who were using a series of 10 whole-body cryotherapy treatments associated with 30-minute kinesitherapy including both general exercises and instrument exercises. What is more the control group also consisted of 24 patients using only a series of 10 treatments consisting of kinesitherapy, which didn't differ from the exercises conducted on the examined group. Each of patients was interviewed before the series of physiotherapeutic treatments. The pain intensity was estimated with the use of the Numeric Scale as well as Laitinen Questionnaire, as well as functional examination of the mobility of the lumbar spine using the Schober Test. RESULTS: Results: According to the Numerical Scale, the average pain score decreased in applied physiotherapy by 1.5 points within the study group and by 0.6 points in control group. According to the Laitinen Questionnaire, after a series of physiotherapy treatments, the average pain score decreased in the study group by 1.0 points, while in control group it equals 0.5 points. According to Schober's Test, an average improvement in the mobility of the bend in the lumbar spine for studied group equals 0.8 cm and extension 0.3 cm. In the control group, an average improvement of the flexion movement equals 0.5 cm while extension 0.4 cm. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: A series of 10 whole-body cryotherapy treatments combined with kinesiotherapy may contribute to reduction of severity of pain and improve the range of motion of the lumbar region in patients with degenerative spine disease. What is more, further clinical trials conducted on a broader group of patients with extended treatment period seems to be essential in this field of study.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: Breast cancer is a disease with high incidence. In Poland, it is the most common cause of death among cancer in women. A common method of treatment is a breast-saving procedure or its radical removal along with nearby lymph nodes. The most common complication after resection is lymphoedema. The aim: The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of a selected series of physiotherapy treatments to reduce lymphoedema in women after surgical treatment of breast cancer, assessment of risk factors in women after surgical treatment of breast cancer, assessment of how women collect information on the prevention of lymphoedema, evaluation of women after mastectomy surgery to prevent the formation of lymphoedema. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The study involved 43 patients with lymphoedema after surgical treatment of breast cancer. Patients' own questionnaire was performed and two upper limb circumferences were measured (before and after the end of a series of physiotherapy treatments). RESULTS: Results: In 43 examined women (100&) after the surgery associated with the occurrence of breast cancer, lymphatic edema of the upper limb on the operated side occurred. Edema of the entire limb appeared in 25 subjects (58.14&), and in the arm and forearm, 10 patients (23.26&), arm and forearm in 8 women (18.60&). Edema occurred in different period from the time of surgery and affected a different area. After the therapy, the patients were found to have reduced limb circumferences of the operated side at all levels. The largest decrease was observed at level III (10 cm below the elbow) on average by 1.75 cm, and the smallest at level I (in the medial part of the metacarpus excluding the thumb). CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Physiotherapy treatments have a significant impact on the reduction of lymphatic edema in women after surgical treatment of breast cancer. In women after mastectomy, there is no basic knowledge about risk factors for lymphoedema. Physicians have the largest share in the education of women after mastectomy. The most common actions in the field of anti-oedematous prophylaxis are kinesitherapy, automassage and proper posture position with high laying of the upper limb on the operated side.

RESUMO

The laryngeal papillomas belong to the group of non-malignant tumours. The risk of getting sick increases with the number of contingent sexual contacts, smoking, alcohol abuse and untreated gastro-oesophageal reflux. This paper describes five cases presenting different levels of exposure to the risk factors and variable course of adult laryngeal papillomatosis. These people, in addition to routine diagnostics, were examined using endoscopy with the use of narrow beam of light, which turns out to be a useful diagnostic tool in the case of laryngeal papillomatosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: Pharmacological treatment of both allergic and non-allergic rhinitis is not always effective. The aim: Assessment of the effectiveness of treatment of patients with allergic and non-allergic vasomotor rhinitis using cryoablation procedures. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Material and methods: The study involved 60 patients, including 28 women and 32 men, aged 17-76 years (the average age 39) with rhinitis. All participants were assigned into two groups: I group - 18 patients with chronic allergic rhinitis; II group - 42 patients with chronic non-allergic vasomotor rhinitis. The research methodology included: anamnesis, otolaryngological physical examination, rhinomanometer test, performed before and 3 months after the procedure. The cryoablation of nasal turbinates was performed under local anesthesia, with a 1% xylocaine solution using the Cryo-S device from CryoFlex Poland. RESULTS: Results: After the cryoablation treatment, in both groups the statistically significant improvement was observed both in the subjective assessment of symptoms of nasal obstruction and in the mean rhinomanometry of air flows through the nasal passages during inspiration and exhalation. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Cryosurgical treatment is not the first-line treatment for the treatment of allergic and non-allergic vasomotor rhinitis, it does not remove the causes of the disease. However, it may be an effective method of treatment for some patients and a supplement to existing treatment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: Oculomotor nerve palsy is an eye condition resulting from damage to the third cranial nerve or a branch thereof. Third nerve damage weakens the muscles innervated by the nerve . Also adversely affect the fourth and sixth nerve , causing impairment of their activity. Rehabilitation third nerve palsy is rarely described in the available literature . The whole process is very difficult , but the effects of physiotherapy is very beneficial for the patient. The aim:The assessment of the influence of the outpatient rehabilitation on the patient's condition after a three-month treatment and the use of physical therapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Material and methods:Case studies of the 38-yerar-old patient after having operated a big aneurism of the left ICA, which was clipped. After the procedure, the III, IV and VI cranial nerves were deeply impaired and the amnesic aphasia occurred. The patient started the rehabilitation a month after the incident. To assess the process of rehabilitation, the own movement examination of the eyeball was implemented. Active and passive exercises, Tigger Point therapy, kinesiotaping, laser and electrostimulation were inserted. RESULTS: Results: The significant improvement of the eyeball movement has been proved on the basis of the same own examination. A physiotherapy has had a positive influence on the speech disorder, namely amnesic aphasia, and after the month of the rehabilitation it has been completely removed. The positive influence of the rehabilitation, which has been pointed out, is clinically essential. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Obtained results have not been described in literature yet, that is why it is essential to widen further research and emphasise the importance of the rehabilitation, which is rarely implemented in an intense way in such medical conditions.
