RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) layered MoSe2 has been demonstrated to be a promising electrode material for new energy storage systems. However, its nature of poor conductivity and the undesirable interlayer spacing hinder its further application. In this paper, a general and simple plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition method is proposed to produce 2D heterolayer-structured MoSe2-carbon (MoSe2/C) with carbon atoms inserted in the MoSe2 layers. After morphology optimization, when applying flat-type MoSe2/C-200 nanosheets with an enlarged interlayer spacing of 0.79 nm as the anode and activated carbon as the cathode, the assembled sodium-ion hybrid capacitors can reach a maximum energy/power density of 116.5 W h kg-1/107.5 W kg-1 and exhibit superior cycling durability (91.3% capacitance retention after 4000 cycles at 1 A g-1). The good electrochemical property can be ascribed to the enlarged interlayer spacing that can offer fast diffusion channels for Na ions, and the carbon layer sandwiched in the MoSe2 layer can not only enhance the electron transfer, accelerating the reaction kinetics, but also alleviate the volume change of MoSe2, ensuring the good stability of the electrode. The proposed approach can also be extended to other 2D transition metal chalcogenide (TMC) materials for constructing the TMC/C heterostructures for the application in energy storage systems.

RESUMO

Under high temperatures, fiber-reinforced polymers are destroyed, releasing heat, smoke, and harmful volatile substances. Therefore, composite structural elements must have sufficient fire resistance to meet the requirements established by building codes and regulations. Fire resistance of composite materials can be improved by using mineral fillers as flame-retardant additives in resin compositions. This article analyzes the effect of fire-retardant additives on mechanical properties and fire behavior of pultruded composite profiles. Five resin mixtures based on vinyl ester epoxy and on brominated vinyl ester epoxy modified with alumina trihydrate and triphenyl phosphate were prepared for pultrusion of strip profiles of 150 mm × 3.5 mm. A series of tests have been conducted to determine mechanical properties (tensile, flexural, compression, and interlaminar shear) and fire behavior (ignitability, flammability, combustibility, toxicity, smoke generation, and flame spread) of composites. It was found that additives impair mechanical properties of materials, as they the take place of reinforcing fibers and reduce the volume fraction of reinforcing fibers. Profiles based on non-brominated vinyl ester epoxy have higher tensile, compressive, and flexural properties than those based on brominated vinyl ester epoxy by 7%, 30%, and 36%, respectively. Profiles based on non-brominated epoxy resin emit less smoke compared to those based on brominated epoxy resin. Brominated epoxy-based profiles have a flue gas temperature which is seven times lower compared to those based on the non-brominated epoxy. Mineral fillers retard the spread of flame over the composite material surface by as much as 4 times and reduce smoke generation by 30%.

RESUMO

An important direction in the development of additive technologies is associated with the addition of ceramic particles (oxide, carbide, boride, and nitride ceramics) to metal powders. The prediction of the physical and mechanical characteristics of SiC-particle-reinforced composite materials (PRCMs) in comparison with experimental results was studied. A near-α Ti-4.25Al-2V titanium-alloy-based composite reinforced by 1 vol.% of SiC ceramic particles was produced using laser direct energy deposition. A multiscale modeling approach at the micro and macro levels was applied. At the micro level, the toughness and strength characteristics for a temperature interval of T = 20-450 °C were predicted using a representative volume element of PRCM with the nearly real shape of SiC particles. At the macro level, the features of plastic deformation and fracture of the PRCM were predicted by numerical modeling using the commercial software Digimat Student Edition ver. 2022.4 and Ansys Student 2023 R2. The addition of SiC particles was found to improve the physical and mechanical properties in the whole temperature range. The results of the numerical modeling were consistent with the experimental data (the deviation did not exceed 10%). The proposed approach for predicting the physical and mechanical properties of Ti-4.25Al-2V/SiC can also be used for other PRCMs obtained by laser direct energy deposition.

RESUMO

In recent years, additive manufacturing of products made from 5000 series alloys has grown in popularity for marine and automotive applications. At the same time, little research has been aimed at determining the permissible load ranges and areas of application, especially in comparison with materials obtained by traditional methods. In this work, we compared the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy 5056 produced by wire-arc additive technology and rolling. Structural analysis of the material was carried out using EBSD and EDX. Tensile tests under quasi-static loading and impact toughness tests under impact loading were also carried out. SEM was used to examine the fracture surface of the materials during these tests. The mechanical properties of the materials under quasi-static loading conditions exhibit a striking similarity. Specifically, the yield stress σ0.2 was measured at 128 MPa for the industrially manufactured AA5056_IM and 111 MPa for the AA5056_AM. In contrast, impact toughness tests showed that AA5056_AM KCVfull was 190 kJ/m2, half that of AA5056_IM KCVfull, which was 395 kJ/m2.

RESUMO

Nowadays, the hybridization of natural and glass fiber has promised several advantages as a green composite. Nevertheless, their different characteristics lead to poor mechanical bonding. In this work, agel fiber and glass fiber was used as reinforcements, and activated carbon filler was added to the polymer matrix of a hybrid composite to modify its characteristics and mechanical properties. A tensile and bending test was conducted to evaluate the effect of three different weight percentages of activated carbon filler (1, 2, and 4 wt%). Vacuum-assisted resin infusion was used to manufacture the hybrid composite to obtain the high-quality composite. The results have revealed that adding 1 wt% filler yielded the most optimum result with the highest tensile strength, flexural strength, and elastic modulus, respectively: 112.90 MPa, 85.26 MPa, and 1.80 GPa. A higher weight percentage of activated carbon filler on the composite reduced its mechanical properties. The lowest test value was shown by the composite with 4 wt%. The micrograph observations have proven that the 4 wt% composite formed agglomeration filler that can induce stress concentration and reduce its mechanical performance. Adding 1 wt% filler offered the best dispersion in the matrix, which can enhance better load transfer capability.

RESUMO

Extraordinary properties of two-dimensional materials make them attractive for applications in different fields. One of the prospective niches is optical applications, where such types of materials demonstrate extremely sensitive performance and can be used for labeling. However, the optical properties of liquid-exfoliated 2D materials need to be analyzed. The purpose of this work is to study the absorption and luminescent properties of MoS2 exfoliated in the presence of sodium cholate, which is the most often used surfactant. Ultrasound bath and mixer-assisted exfoliation in water and dimethyl sulfoxide were used. The best quality of MoS2 nanosheets was achieved using shear-assisted liquid-phase exfoliation as a production method and sodium cholate (SC) as a surfactant. The photoluminescent properties of MoS2 nanosheets varied slightly when changing the surfactant concentrations in the range C(SC) = 0.5-2.5 mg/mL. This work is of high practical importance for further enhancement of MoS2 photoluminescent properties via chemical functionalization.

RESUMO

Copper-based composites strengthened with fullerene soot nanoparticles of 20-30 nm size in concentration up to 23 vol.% were prepared via two methods: mechanical mixing and molecular level mixing. The dependence of thermal conductivity on the carbon concentration was studied. Maxwell's model describes well the change in the thermal conductivity of the composite obtained by molecular level mixing. However, thermal conductivity of the composite produced by mechanical mixing is significantly lower than the calculated values, due to structural inhomogeneity and residual stresses. Comparison of the thermal conductivity of Cu-fullerene soot composites with that of Cu-based composites described in the literature showed that the prepared materials are not inferior in thermal conductivity to composites containing carbon nanotubes, despite the fact that fullerene soot has a much lower thermal conductivity.

RESUMO

The results disclosed that both the microstructure and mechanical properties of AA7075-T6 laser welds are considerably influenced by the heat input. In comparison with high heat input (arc welding), a smaller weld fusion zone with a finer dendrite arm spacing, limited loss of alloying elements, less intergranular segregation, and reduced residual tensile stress was obtained using low heat input. This resulted in a lower tendency of porosity and hot cracking, which improved the welded metal's soundness. Subsequently, higher hardness as well as higher tensile strength for the welded joint was obtained with lower heat input. A welded joint with better mechanical properties and less mechanical discrepancy is important for better productivity. The implemented high-power fiber laser has enabled the production of a low heat input welded joint using a high welding speed, which is of considerable importance for minimizing not only the fusion zone size but also the deterioration of its properties. In other words, high-power fiber laser welding is a viable solution for recovering the mechanical properties of the high-strength AA 7075-T6 welds. These results are encouraging to build upon for further improvement of the mechanical properties to be comparable with the base metal.

RESUMO

Additive manufacturing of titanium alloys is one of the fastest growing areas of 3D metal printing. The use of AM methods for parts production in the aviation industry is especially promising. During the deposition of products with differently sized cross-sections, the thermal history changes, which leads to non-uniformity of the structure and properties. Such heterogeneity can lead to failure of the product during operation. The structure of deposited parts, depending on the thermal cycle, may consist of α', α + α' + ß', and α + ß in different ratios. This problem can be solved by using heat treatment (HT). This paper presents research aimed towards the determination of optimal heat treatment parameters that allows the reception of the uniform formation of properties in the after-treatment state, regardless of the initial structure and properties, using the example of a deposited Ti-6Al-4V gas turbine blade.

RESUMO

The study of the formation of microstructural features of low-alloy bainite-martensitic steel 09CrNi2MoCu are of particular interest in additive technologies. In this paper, we present a study of cold-rolled samples after direct laser deposition (DLD). We investigated deposited samples after cold plastic deformation with different degrees of deformation compression (50, 60 and 70%) of samples from steel 09CrNi2MoCu. The microstructure and mechanical properties of samples in the initial state and after heat treatment (HT) were analyzed and compared with the samples obtained after cold rolling. The effect on static tensile strength and impact toughness at -40 °C in the initial state and after cold rolling was investigated. The mechanical properties and characteristics of fracture in different directions were determined. Optimal modes and the degree of cold rolling deformation compression required to obtain balanced mechanical properties of samples obtained by additive method were determined. The influence of structural components and martensitic-austenitic phase on the microhardness and mechanical properties of the obtained samples was determined.

RESUMO

In the present study, powder of FeCoCrNiMo0.5Al1.3 HEA was manufactured by gas atomization process, and then used for laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) and microplasma spraying (MPS) technologies. The processes of phase composition and microstructure transformation during above mentioned processes and subsequent heat treatment were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and differential thermal analysis (DTA) methods. It was found that gas atomization leads to a formation of dendrites of body centered cubic (BCC) supersaturated solid solution with insignificant Mo-rich segregations on the peripheries of the dendrites. Annealing leads to an increase of element segregations till to decomposition of the BCC solid solution and formation of σ-phase and B2 phase. Microstructure and phase composition of L-PBF sample are very similar to those of the powder. The MPS coating has a little fraction of face centered cubic (FCC) phase because of Al oxidation during spraying and formation of regions depleted in Al, in which FCC structure becomes more stable. Maximum hardness (950 HV) is achieved in the powder and L-PBF samples after annealing at 600 °C. Elastic modulus of the L-PBF sample, determined by nanoindentation, is 165 GPa, that is 12% lower than that of the cast alloy (186 GPa).

RESUMO

The urgency of heat treatment of samples of maraging steel obtained by direct laser deposition from steel powder 06Cr15Ni4CuMo is considered. The structural features and properties of 06Cr15Ni4CuMo steel samples after direct laser deposition and heat treatment are studied. The work is devoted to research into the influence of thermal processing on the formation of structure and the mechanical properties of deposit samples. Features of formation of microstructural components by means of optical microscopy are investigated. Tests for tension and impact toughness are conducted. As a result, it was established that the material obtained by the direct laser deposition method in its initial state significantly exceeds the strength characteristics of heat treatment castings of similar chemical composition, but is inferior to it in terms of impact toughness and relative elongation. The increase in relative elongation and impact toughness up to the level of cast material in the deposit samples is achieved at the subsequent heat treatment, which leads to the formation of the structure of tempered martensite and reduction in its content at two-stage tempering in the structure of the metal. The strength of the material is also reduced to the level of cast metal.
