RESUMO

Heading is one of the most important agronomic traits for Chinese cabbage crops. During the heading stage, leaf axial growth is an essential process. In the past, most genes predicted to be involved in the heading process have been based on leaf development studies in Arabidopsis. No genes that control leaf axial growth have been mapped and cloned via forward genetics in Chinese cabbage. In this study, we characterize the inward curling mutant ic1 in Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis and identify a mutation in the OCTOPUS (BrOPS) gene by map-based cloning. OPS is involved in phloem differentiation in Arabidopsis, a functionalization of regulating leaf curvature that is differentiated in Chinese cabbage. In the presence of brassinosteroid (BR) at the early heading stage in ic1, the mutation of BrOPS fails to sequester brassinosteroid insensitive 2 (BrBIN2) from the nucleus, allowing BrBIN2 to phosphorylate and inactivate BrBES1, which in turn relieves the repression of BrAS1 and results in leaf inward curving. Taken together, the results of our findings indicate that BrOPS positively regulates BR signaling by antagonizing BrBIN2 to promote leaf epinastic growth at the early heading stage in Chinese cabbage.

Silicon carbide (SiC) nanomaterials have emerged as promising candidates for supercapacitor electrodes due to their unique properties, which encompass a broad electrochemical stability range, exceptional mechanical strength, and resistance to extreme conditions. This review offers a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in SiC nanomaterials for supercapacitors. It encompasses diverse synthesis methods for SiC nanomaterials, including solid-state, gas-phase, and liquid-phase synthesis techniques, while also discussing the advantages and challenges associated with each method. Furthermore, this review places a particular emphasis on the electrochemical performance of SiC-based supercapacitors, highlighting the pivotal role of SiC nanostructures and porous architectures in enhancing specific capacitance and cycling stability. A deep dive into SiC-based composite materials, such as SiC/carbon composites and SiC/metal oxide hybrids, is also included, showcasing their potential to elevate energy density and cycling stability. Finally, the paper outlines prospective research directions aimed at surmounting existing challenges and fully harnessing SiC's potential in the development of next-generation supercapacitors.

Amine-functionalized adsorbents offer substantial potential for CO2 capture owing to their selectivity and diverse application scenarios. However, their effectiveness is hindered by low efficiency and unstable cyclic performance. Here we introduce an amine-support system designed to achieve efficient and stable CO2 capture. Through atom-level design, each polyethyleneimine (PEI) molecule is precisely impregnated into the cage-like pore of MIL-101(Cr), forming stable composites via strong coordination with unsaturated Cr acid sites within the crystal lattice. The resulting adsorbent demonstrates a low regeneration energy (39.6 kJ/molCO2), excellent cyclic stability (0.18% decay per cycle under dry CO2 regeneration), high CO2 adsorption capacity (4.0 mmol/g), and rapid adsorption kinetics (15 min for saturation at 30 °C). These properties stem from the unique electron-level interaction between the amine and the support, effectively preventing carbamate products' dehydration. This work presents a feasible and promising cost-effective and sustainable CO2 capture strategy.

This study aimed to isolate starch and evaluate its chemical and structural characteristics from six Chinese hulless barley (HB) cultivars. Starch isolated from naked barley displays A-type crystalline packing and a regular granular shape. We measured peak viscosity values ranging from 237 to 264 cP, trough viscosity values from 305 to 380 cP, breakdown values from 390 to 535 cP, final viscosities from 357 to 523 cP, setback values from 245 to 354 cP and 383 to 460 cP, peak times from 5.53 to 5.73 min, and pasting temperatures from 93.10 to 94.65°C by RVA. Transition temperatures (T 0, T p, and T c), gelatinization temperature ranges (ΔT r), and enthalpies of gelatinization (ΔH) were measured on a differential scanning calorimeter analyzer (DSC) and ranged from 57.81 to 61.25°C, 64.36 to 67.57°C, 82.03 to 84.70°C, and 21.52 to 26.89°C and 7.14 to 10.66 J/g, respectively. The varying chemical and structural characteristics of HB starch isolated from different cultivars suggested the potential for broader applications of the cereal.

The present study was designed to investigate the effects of montmorillonite (MMT) on dietary Cd-induced oxidative damage in liver and kidney of carp (Carassius auratus). One hundred eighty carp were randomly divided into four groups and fed with a basal diet, a basal diet supplemented with 0.5% MMT, Cd-comtaminated basal diet (120 mg Cd/kg dry weight) and Cd-contaminated basal diet supplemented with 0.5% MMT, respectively. After 60 days, fish were sacrificed to measure malondialdehyde (MDA) content and antioxidative indices in liver and kidney. The results showed that the exposure of carp to dietary Cd caused decreases in glutathione peroxidase activity, catalase activity, superoxide dismutase activity, glutathione content and total antioxidant capacity level, while MMT supplemented in diet compensated Cd-induced decreases in above antioxidant indices to some extent in liver and kidney. As compared with the control group, increases in MDA content were observed in both measured tissues of carp exposed to dietary Cd, while MDA content decreased in carp exposed to Cd-contaminated basal diet supplemented with MMT in comparison with the Cd-contaminated group. It was suggested that MMT, when co-administered with Cd in diet, could alleviate dietary Cd-induced oxidative damage in liver and kidney of carp.
