RESUMO

Understanding the molecular mechanisms of pathological vascular remodeling is important for treating cardiovascular diseases and complications. Recent studies have highlighted a role of deubiquitinases in vascular pathophysiology. Here, we investigate the role of a deubiquitinase, OTUD1, in angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced vascular remodeling. We detect upregulated OTUD1 in the vascular endothelium of Ang II-challenged mice and show that OTUD1 deletion attenuates vascular remodeling, collagen deposition, and EndMT. Conversely, OTUD1 overexpression aggravates these pathological changes both in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, SMAD3 is identified as a substrate of OTUD1 using co-immunoprecipitation followed by LC-MS/MS. We find that OTUD1 stabilizes SMAD3 and facilitates SMAD3/SMAD4 complex formation and subsequent nuclear translocation through both K48- and K63-linked deubiquitination. OTUD1-mediated SMAD3 activation regulates transcription of genes involved in vascular EndMT and remodeling in HUVECs. Finally, SMAD3 inhibition reverses OTUD1-promoted vascular remodeling. Our findings demonstrate that endothelial OTUD1 promotes Ang II-induced vascular remodeling by deubiquitinating SMAD3. We identify SMAD3 as a target of OTUD1 and propose OTUD1 as a potential therapeutic target for diseases related to vascular remodeling.

Metal halide perovskite materials inherently possess imperfections, particularly under nonequilibrium conditions, such as exposure to light or heat. To tackle this challenge, we introduced stearate ligand-capped nickel oxide (NiOx), a redox-sensitive metal oxide with variable valence, into perovskite intermediate films. The integration of NiOx improved the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by offering multifunctional roles: (1) chemical passivation for ongoing defect repair, (2) energetic passivation to bolster defect tolerance, and (3) field-effect passivation to mitigate charge accumulation. Employing a synergistic approach that tailored these three passivation mechanisms led to a substantial increase in the devices' efficiencies. The target cell (0.12 cm2) and module (18 cm2) exhibited efficiencies of 24.0 and 22.9%, respectively. Notably, the encapsulated modules maintained almost 100 and 87% of the initial efficiencies after operating for 1100 h at the maximum power point (60 °C, 50% RH) and 2000 h of damp-heat testing (85 °C, 85% RH), respectively. Outdoor real-time tests further validated the commercial viability of the NiOx-assisted PSMs. The proposed passivation strategy provides a practical and uncomplicated approach for fabricating high-efficiency and stable photovoltaics.

Genetic risk for schizophrenia is thought to trigger variation in clinical features of schizophrenia, but biological processes associated with neuronal activity in brain regions remain elusive. In this study, gene expression features were mapped to various sub-regions of the brain by integrating low-frequency amplitude features and gene expression data from the schizophrenia brain and using gene co-expression network analysis of the Allen Transcriptome Atlas of the human brain from six donors to identify genetic features of brain regions and important associations with neuronal features. The results indicate that changes in the dynamic amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (dALFF) are mainly associated with transcriptome signature factors such as cortical layer synthesis, immune response, and expanded membrane transport. Further modular disease enrichment analysis revealed that the same set of signature genes associated with dALFF levels was enriched for multiple neurological biological processes. Finally, genetic profiling of individual modules identified multiple core genes closely related to schizophrenia, also potentially associated with neuronal activity. Thus, this paper explores genetic features of brain regions in the schizophrenia closely related to low-frequency amplitude ratio levels based on imaging genetics, which suggests structural endophenotypes associated with schizophrenia.

Our hospital admitted a patient who had difficulty in coagulation even after blood replacement, and the patient had abused caffeine sodium benzoate (CSB) for more than 20 years. Hence, we aimed to explore whether CSB may cause dysfunction in vascular endothelial cells and its possible mechanism. Low, medium, and high concentrations of serum of long-term CSB intake patients were used to treat HUVECs, with LPS as the positive control. MTT and CCK8 were performed to verify CSB's damaging effect on HUVECs. The expression of ET-1, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, and E-selectin were measured by ELISA. TUNEL assay and Matrigel tube formation assay were carried out to detect apoptosis and angiogenesis of HUVECs. Flow cytometry was applied to analyze cell cycles and expression of CD11b, PDGF, and ICAM-1. Expression of PDGF-BB and PCNA were examined by western blot. The activation of MAPK signaling pathway was detected by qRT-PCR and western blot. Intracellular Ca2+ density was detected by fluorescent probes. CCK8 assay showed high concentration of CSB inhibited cell viability. Cell proliferation and angiogenesis were inhibited by CSB. ET-1, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, and E-selectin upregulated in CSB groups. CSB enhanced apoptosis of HUVECs. CD11b, ICAM-1 increased and PDGF reduced in CSB groups. The expression level and phosphorylation level of MEK, ERK, JUN, and p38 in MAPK pathway elevated in CSB groups. The expression of PCNA and PDGF-BB was suppressed by CSB. Intracellular Ca2+ intensity was increased by CSB. Abuse of CSB injured HUVECs and caused coagulation disorders.

Lakes serve as vital reservoirs of dissolved organic matter (DOM) and play pivotal roles in biogeochemical carbon cycles. However, the sources and compositions of DOM in freshwater lakes and their potential effects on lake sediment carbon pools remain unclear. In this study, seven inflowing rivers in the Lake Taihu basin were selected to explore the potential effects of multi-source DOM inputs on the stability of the lake sediment carbon pool. The results showed the high concentrations of dissolved organic carbon in the Lake Taihu basin, accompanied by a high complexity level. Lignins constituted the majority of DOM compounds, surpassing 40% of the total, while the organic carbon content was predominantly composed of humic acids (1.02-3.01 g kg-1). The high amounts of lignin oxidative cleavage led to CHO being the main molecular structure in the DOM of the seven rivers. The carbon constituents within the sediment carbon reservoir exhibited a positive correlation with dissolved CH4 and CO2, with a notable emphasis on humic acid and dissolved CH4 (R2 = 0.86). The elevated concentration of DOM, coupled with its intricate composition, contributed to the increases in dissolved greenhouse gases (GHGs). Experiments showed that the mixing of multi-source DOM can accelerate the organic carbon mineralization processes. The unit carbon emission efficiency was highest in the mixed group, reaching reached 160.9 µmol∙Cg-1, which also exhibited a significantly different carbon pool. The mixed decomposition of DOM from different sources influenced the roles of the lake carbon pool as source and sink, indicating that the multi-source DOM of this lake basin was a potential driving factor for increased carbon emissions. These findings have improved our understanding of the sources and compositions of DOM in lake basins and revealed their impacts on carbon emissions, thereby providing a theoretical basis for improving assessments of lake carbon emissions.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries have many advantages but still face problems such as retarded polysulfides redox kinetics and Li dendrite growth. Most reported single atom catalysts (SACs) for Li-S batteries are based on d-band transition metals whose d orbital constitutes active valence band, which is inclined to occur catalyst passivation. SACs based on 4f inner valence orbital of rare earth metals are challenging for their great difficulty to be activated. In this work, we design and synthesize the first rare earth metal Sm SACs which has electron-rich 4f inner orbital to promote catalytic conversion of polysulfides and uniform deposition of Li. Sm SACs enhance the catalysis by the activated 4f orbital through an f-d-p orbital hybridization. Using Sm-N3C3 modified separators, the half cells deliver a high capacity over 600 mAh g-1 and a retention rate of 84.3 % after 2000 cycles. The fabricated Sm-N3C3-Li|Sm-N3C3@PP|S/CNTs full batteries can provide an ultra-stable cycling performance of a retention rate of 80.6 % at 0.2 C after 100 cycles, one of the best full Li-S batteries. This work provides a new perspective for the development of rare earth metal single atom catalysis in electrochemical reactions of Li-S batteries and other electrochemical systems for next-generation energy storage.

The conversion of methane under ambient conditions has attracted significant attention. Although advancements have been made using active oxygen species from photo- and electro- chemical processes, challenges such as complex catalyst design, costly oxidants, and unwanted byproducts remain. This study exploits the concept of contact-electro-catalysis, initiating chemical reactions through charge exchange at a solid-liquid interface, to report a novel process for directly converting methane under ambient conditions. Utilizing the electrification of commercially available Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) with water under ultrasound, we demonstrate how this interaction promote the activation of methane and oxygen molecules. Our results show that the yield of HCHO and CH3OH can reach 467.5 and 151.2 µmol ⋅ gcat -1, respectively. We utilized electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) to confirm the evolution of hydroxyl radicals (⋅OH) and superoxide radicals (⋅OOH). Isotope mass spectrometry (MS) was employed to analyze the elemental origin of CH3OH, which can be further oxidized to HCHO. Additionally, we conducted density functional theory (DFT) simulations to assess the reaction energies of FEP with H2O, O2, and CH4 under these conditions. The implications of this methodology, with its potential applicability to a wider array of gas-phase catalytic reactions, underscore a significant advance in catalysis.

Since the linkages structured in covalent organic frameworks (COFs) usually impact the charge transfer behavior during photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (pc-HER), linkage dependence on charge transfer kinetics should be further claimed. Herein, COFs with N-based linkages and pyrene-based building nodes are constructed to enable us to obtain new clues about the charge transfer behavior and evolution tendency relevant to linkages at a molecular level for pc-HER. It is demonstrated that photo-excited electrons preferably move to the N sites in C=N linkage for pc-HER and are trapped around NN linkage as well. A high electron transfer rate does not point to high photocatalytic activity directly, while a small difference between the electron transfer rate and electron recombination rate ΔkCT - CR predicts the inefficiency of charge transfer in Azod-COFs. Contrarily, large value of ΔkCT - CR in the case of Benzd-COFs, demonstrats an unimpeded charge transfer process to result in boosted pc-HER rate (2027.3 µmol h-1 g-1 ). This work offers a prominent strategy for the reasonable design of efficient photocatalysts at the molecular level for structural regulation and achieves an efficient charge transfer process for the pc-HER process.

ABSTRACT: Costunolide (Cos) is a naturally occurring sesquiterpene lactone that exhibits antioxidative properties. In this study, we demonstrate the protective mechanism of Cos against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced myocardial injury. Cos significantly decreased levels of reactive oxygen species and ameliorated apoptosis of I/R cardiomyocytes both in vitro and in vivo. Further investigation revealed that Cos increased expression of the antioxidant proteins HO-1 and NQO-1 and decreased the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, thus protecting cardiac cells. NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) silencing significantly attenuated the protective effects of Cos in tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP)-treated H9C2 cells. Additionally, Cos significantly intensified the I/R- or TBHP-induced dissociation of the Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1)/Nrf2 complex both in vitro and in vivo. These results suggest that activation of Nrf2/Keap1 using Cos may be a therapeutic strategy for myocardial I/R injury.

Two-dimensional (2D) layered MoS2 has good dispersion and adsorption properties, but being a narrow bandgap semiconductor limits its application in photoelectric sensing. In this study, a homogeneous photoelectrochemical sensor based on three-dimensional (3D) ZnO/Au/2D MoS2 is proposed for the ultrasensitive detection of tetracycline (TET). MoS2 is uniformly embedded on the 3D ZnO/Au surface by ordered self-assembly. The physical method of π-π interaction of MoS2 replaces the conventional use of chemically modifying aptamers on the electrode material surface. Under optimal conditions, this method has been successfully applied to the detection of TET in milk, honey, pig kidney and pork samples with reliable results. We believe that this study presents a method for the preparation of sensing carriers and target detection with great potential for application.

Costunolide (CTD) is a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from costus root and exhibits various biological activities including anti-inflammation. Since atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease, we herein investigated the anti-atherosclerotic effects of CTD and the underlying mechanism. Atherosclerosis was induced in ApoE-/- mice by feeding them with a high-fat diet (HFD) for 8 weeks, followed by administration of CTD (10, 20 mg ·kg-1·d-1, i.g.) for 8 weeks. We showed that CTD administration dose-dependently alleviated atherosclerosis in HFD-fed ApoE-/- mice. Furthermore, we found that CTD dose-dependently reduced inflammatory responses in aortas of the mice, as CTD prevented infiltration of inflammatory cells in aortas and attenuated oxLDL uptake in macrophages, leading to reduced expression of pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic molecules in aortas. Similar results were observed in oxLDL-stimulated mouse primary peritoneal macrophages (MPMs) in vitro. We showed that pretreatment with CTD (2.5, 5. 10 µM) restrained oxLDL-induced inflammatory responses in MPMs by blocking pro-inflammatory NF-κB/p65 signaling pathway. We further demonstrated that CTD inactivated NF-κB via covalent binding to cysteine 179 on IKKß, a canonical upstream regulator of NF-κB, reducing its phosphorylation and leading to conformational change in the active loop of IKKß. Our results discover IKKß as the target of CTD for its anti-inflammatory activity and elucidate a molecular mechanism underlying the anti-atherosclerosis effect of CTD. CTD is a potentially therapeutic candidate for retarding inflammatory atherosclerotic diseases.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is rampant all over the world, and rapid and effective virus detection is the best auxiliary to curb the spread of the epidemic. A diagnosis can only be made if two or more different nucleic acid sequences are confirmed at the same time, and in most of traditional detection technologies, these target sequences have been detected separately. In this work, an electrochemiluminescent (ECL) biosensor employing a single ECL probe as signal output and responding to dual-target simultaneously is proposed for the first time. Taking the two sequences located in ORF 1ab region and N region of SARS-CoV-2 gene sequence as the model target and nitrogen doped carbon quantum dots (CDs) as ECL beacon, supplemented with catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) reaction for signal amplification, the presented strategy has been successfully applied to the rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2. The developed SARS-CoV-2 biosensor based on the series CHA systems can realize the quantitative determination of SARS-CoV-2 in the range of 50 fM to 200 pM within 40 min. Moreover, the clinical validity of this method has been verified by the high consistency between the detection results of using this method and those using RT-qPCR for seven clinical pharyngeal swab samples.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the indications, timing, and clinical outcomes that result from the early tracheostomy (ET) administration, by causal inference models. DESIGN: A retrospective observational study. SETTING: Multiinstitutional intensive care unit in the United States PARTICIPANTS: The study comprised 626 trauma patients. INTERVENTIONS: An ET versus late tracheostomy (LT). MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: Trauma patients with tracheostomy were identified from 2 public databases named Medical Information Mart for the Intensive Care-IV and eICU Collaborative Research Database. Tracheostomy was defined as early (≤7 days) or late (>7 days) from intensive care unit admission. A marginal structural Cox model (MSCM) with inverse probability weighting was employed. For comparison, the authors also used time-dependent propensity-score matching (PSM) to account for differences in the probability of receiving an ET or LT. A total of 626 eligible patients were enrolled in the study, of whom 321 (51%) received a ET. The MSCM and time-dependent PSM indicated that the ET group was associated with reduced ventilation-associated pneumonia (VAP) and a shorter mechanical ventilation (MV) duration than the LT group. Yet, mortality did not show any difference between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: The authors' study observed that ET was not associated with reduced mortality in trauma patients, but it was associated with reduced VAP risk and MV duration. The results warrant further validation in randomized controlled trials.

The present study aimed to systematically assess the potential biomarkers in the serum samples of patients with long-term inhalation of caffeine-sodium benzoate (CSB). LC-MS was applied to analyze the metabolic profiles of serum samples of patients with the long-term intake of CSB (n = 35) and other volunteers with no intake of CSB treated as the control group (n = 35). The raw data of metabolic profiles were analyzed via principal component analysis, partial least squares analysis, and orthogonal partial least squares analysis. MBRole 2.0 online tools were used to analyze the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis of different metabolites. The serum metabolic profiles showed several metabolites with large variations, including 2-propyl-2,4-pentadienoic acid, 24-hydroxycholesterol, 3-O-sulfogalactosylceramide (d18:1/24:1(15Z)), 3-O-sulfogalactosylceramide (d18:1/12:0), 3-O-sulfogalactosylceramide (d18:1/14:0), 3a,7a-dihydroxy-5b-cholestan-26-al, 3a,7a-dihydroxy-5b-cholestane, 7a,25-dihydroxycholesterol, bilirubin, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways involved in metabolism included 'choline metabolism in cancer' and 'glycerophospholipid metabolism'. In conclusion, the present study provides a basis with which to explore the molecular-specific mechanisms concerning the effects of the long-term inhalation of CSB on human physical and mental health.

Novel polymers applied in economic membrane technologies are a perennial hot topic in the fields of natural gas purification and O2 enrichment. Herein, novel hypercrosslinked polymers (HCPs) incorporating 6FDA-based polyimide (PI) MMMs were prepared via a casting method for enhancing transport of different gases (CO2, CH4, O2, and N2). Intact HCPs/PI MMMs could be obtained due to good compatibility between the HCPs and PI. Pure gas permeation experiments showed that compared with pure PI film, the addition of HCPs effectively promotes gas transport, increases gas permeability, and maintains ideal selectivity. The permeabilities of HCPs/PI MMMs toward CO2 and O2 were as high as 105.85 Barrer and 24.03 Barrer, respectively, and the ideal selectivities of CO2/CH4 and O2/N2 were 15.67 and 3.00, respectively. Molecular simulations further verified that adding HCPs was beneficial to gas transport. Thus, HCPs have potential utility in fabrication of MMMs for facilitating gas transport in the fields of natural gas purification and O2 enrichment.

TiO2 was grown on both ends of gold nanorods (AuNRs) to form a dumbbell-shaped heterostructure (called AuNRs@end-TiO2) first, and then assembled on the fluorine tin oxide (FTO) electrode surface through hydrophobic interactions to construct a concise photoelectrochemical microRNA-21 (miRNA-21, model target) biosensor using carbon dots (CDs) as photosensitizers. Hairpin probes (HPs) were fixed on the AuNRs@end-TiO2-modified FTO electrode surface through the Au-S bond, and CDs-modified complementary DNA (CDs-cDNA) served as photosensitive probes. In the presence of the target, miRNA hybridized with the HP and triggered double-strand-specific nuclease to cleave the complementary part of the HP with miRNA, and miRNA was released, which can trigger another cycle to realize signal amplification. Many HPs were cleaved and the complementary sequence with cDNA was exposed, which can capture the photosensitive probes to the electrode surface and resulted in photocurrent enhancement. The photocurrent intensity system has a linear relationship with the logarithm of the miRNA concentration in the range of 0.1 fM to 100 pM with a low detection limit of 96 aM (S/N = 3). The biosensor has high sensitivity, good selectivity, and good reproducibility and shows satisfactory results in actual sample detection.

INTRODUCTION: Although recent guidelines recommend endoscopic resection of rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NET) ≤10 mm, there is no consensus on which endoscopic modality should be performed. We aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of modified cap-assisted endoscopic mucosal resection (mEMR-C) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) methods for the treatment of rectal NET ≤10 mm. METHODS: A randomized noninferiority trial comparing mEMR-C and ESD was conducted. The primary outcome was the histological complete resection rate; the secondary outcomes included en bloc resection rate, operation time, complications, and so on. Subgroup analyses and follow-up were also performed. RESULTS: Ninety patients were enrolled, and 79 patients with pathologically confirmed rectal NET were finally analyzed, including 38 cases of mEMR-C and 41 cases of ESD. Histological complete resection rate was 97.4% in the mEMR-C group and 92.7% in the ESD group. The noninferiority of mEMR-C compared with that of ESD was confirmed because the absolute difference was 4.7% (2-sided 90% confidence interval, -3.3% to 12.2%; P = 0.616). En bloc resection and successful removal of rectal NET were achieved in all patients. Advantages of mEMR-C over ESD included shorter operation time (8.89 ± 4.58 vs 24.8 ± 9.14 minutes, P < 0.05) and lower hospitalization cost ($2,233.76 ± $717.70 vs $2,987.27 ± $871.81, P < 0.05). Postoperative complications were recorded in 4 patients who received mEMR-C and 2 patients in the ESD group (11.5% vs 4.9%, P = 0.509), which were all well managed using endoscopy. Similar findings were observed when subgroup analysis was performed. DISCUSSION: mEMR-C is noninferior to ESD with a similar complete resection rate. In addition, mEMR-C had shorter procedure duration time and lower hospitalization costs. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03982264.

OBJECTIVES: Previous studies showed that older adults with fair or poor self-rated health (SRH) were more likely to experience delayed care during the COVID-19 pandemic. We aim to understand delayed care patterns by SRH during the COVID-19 pandemic among US older adults. METHODS: Using a nationally representative sample of older adults (≥ 70 years old) from the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), we assessed the patterns of delayed care by good, fair, or poor SRH. RESULTS: Nearly one in five of the survey-weighted population of 9,465,117 older adults who experienced delayed care during the pandemic reported fair or poor SRH. The overall distributions of the numbers of types of delayed care (p = 0.16) and the numbers of reasons for delayed care (p = 0.12) did not differ significantly by SRH status. Older adults with good, fair, or poor SRH shared the four most common types of delayed care and three most common reasons for delayed care but differed in ranking. Older adults with poor SRH mostly delayed seeing a specialist (good vs. fair vs. poor SRH: 40.1%, 46.7%, 73%, p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that utilizing SRH as a simple indicator may help researchers and clinicians understand similarities and differences in care needs for older adults during the pandemic. Targeted interventions that address differences in healthcare needs among older adults by SRH during the evolving pandemic may mitigate the negative impacts of delayed care.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to summarize evidence on the economic outcomes of prenatal and postpartum interventions for the management of gestational diabetes mellitus and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), assess the quality of each study, and identify research gaps that may inform future research. METHODS: Electronic databases including PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from January 1, 2000, to October 1, 2021. Selected studies were included in narrative synthesis and extracted data were presented in narrative and tabular forms. The quality of each study was assessed using the Consolidated Health Economic Evaluation Reporting Standards and Consensus on Health Economic Criteria list. RESULTS: Among the 22 studies identified through the systematic review, 19 reported favorable cost-effectiveness of the intervention. For prenatal management of HDP, home blood pressure monitoring was found to be cost-effective compared with in-person visits in improving maternal and neonatal outcomes. For postpartum care, regular screening for hypertension or metabolic syndrome followed by subsequent treatment was found to be cost-effective compared with no screening in women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus or HDP. CONCLUSIONS: Existing economic evaluation studies showed that prenatal home blood pressure monitoring and postpartum screening for hypertension or metabolic syndrome were cost-effective. Nevertheless, limitations in the approach of the current economic evaluations may dampen the quality of the evidence and warrant further investigation.

OBJECTIVE: Our study aimed to identify predictors as well as develop machine learning (ML) models to predict the risk of 30-day mortality in patients with sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE). MATERIALS AND METHODS: ML models were developed and validated based on a public database named Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV. Models were compared by the area under the curve (AUC), accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and Hosmer-Lemeshow good of fit test. RESULTS: Of 6994 patients in MIMIC-IV included in the final cohort, a total of 1232 (17.62%) patients died following SAE. Recursive feature elimination (RFE) selected 15 variables, including acute physiology score III (APSIII), Glasgow coma score (GCS), sepsis related organ failure assessment (SOFA), Charlson comorbidity index (CCI), red blood cell volume distribution width (RDW), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), age, respiratory rate, PaO2, temperature, lactate, creatinine (CRE), malignant cancer, metastatic solid tumor, and platelet (PLT). The validation cohort demonstrated all ML approaches had higher discriminative ability compared with the bagged trees (BT) model, although the difference was not statistically significant. Furthermore, in terms of the calibration performance, the artificial neural network (NNET), logistic regression (LR), and adapting boosting (Ada) models had a good calibration-namely, a high accuracy of prediction, with P-values of 0.831, 0.119, and 0.129, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The ML models, as demonstrated by our study, can be used to evaluate the prognosis of SAE patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Online calculator could facilitate the sharing of predictive models.
