RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common condition characterized by the reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus. Despite its widespread prevalence worldwide, the causal link between GERD and various cancer risks has not been fully established, and past medical research has often underestimated or overlooked this relationship. METHODS: This study performed Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship between GERD and 19 different cancers. We leveraged data from 129,080 GERD patients and 473,524 controls, along with cancer-related data, obtained from the UK Biobank and various Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) consortia. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with GERD were used as instrumental variables, utilizing methods such as inverse variance weighting, weighted median, and MR-Egger to address potential pleiotropy and confounding factors. RESULTS: GERD was significantly associated with higher risks of nine types of cancer. Even after adjusting for all known risk factors-including smoking, alcohol consumption, major depression, and body mass index (BMI)-these associations remained significant, with higher risks for most cancers. For example, the adjusted risk for overall lung cancer was (OR, 1.23; 95% CI: 1.14-1.33), for lung adenocarcinoma was (OR, 1.18; 95% CI: 1.03-1.36), for lung squamous cell carcinoma was (OR, 1.35; 95% CI: 1.19-1.53), and for oral cavity and pharyngeal cancer was (OR, 1.73; 95% CI: 1.22-2.44). Especially noteworthy, the risk for esophageal cancer increased to (OR, 2.57; 95% CI: 1.23-5.37). Mediation analyses further highlighted GERD as a significant mediator in the relationships between BMI, smoking, major depression, and cancer risks. CONCLUSIONS: This study identifies a significant causal relationship between GERD and increased cancer risk, highlighting its role in cancer development and underscoring the necessity of incorporating GERD management into cancer prevention strategies.

RESUMO

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common digestive tract tumor with the third incidence and death in the world. There is still an urgent need for effective therapeutic targets and prognostic markers for CRC. Herein, we report a novel potential target and marker, Chordin like-1 (CHRDL1). The function of CHRDL1 has been reported in gastric cancer, breast cancer, and oral squamous cell carcinoma. However, the biological effect of CHRDL1 in CRC remains unrevealed. Transwell and tube formation experiments were used to determine the biological function of CHRDL1. Western blot and rescue experiments were used to determine the specific mechanisms of CHRDL1. Results showed CHRDL1 is significantly downregulated in CRC cell lines and tissues. In vitro, experiments confirmed that CHRDL1 can inhibit cell growth, migration, invasion, angiogenesis and reverse epithelial-mesenchymal transformation. In vivo, experiments proved that it can inhibit tumor growth and metastasis. Mechanistically, we newly find that CHRDL1 exerts biological functions through the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-ß)/vascular endothelial growth factor signaling axis in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, we concluded that CHRDL1 reduces the growth, migration, and angiogenesis of CRC cells by downregulating TGF-ß signaling. Our new findings on CHRDL1 may provide a basis for clinical antiangiogenesis therapy and the prognosis of CRC.

RESUMO

The gut microbiota of poultry is influenced by a variety of factors, including feed, drinking water, airborne dust, and footpads, among others. Gut microbiota can affect the immune reaction and inflammation in the lungs. To investigate the effect of gut microbiota variation on lung inflammation induced by PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) in broilers, 36 Arbor Acres (AA) broilers were randomly assigned to three groups: control group (CON), PM2.5 exposure group (PM), and PM2.5 exposure plus oral antibiotics group (PMA). We used non-absorbable antibiotics (ABX: neomycin and amikacin) to modify the microbiota composition in the PMA group. The intervention was conducted from the 18th to the 28th day of age. Broilers in the PM and PMA groups were exposed to PM by a systemic exposure method from 21 to 28 days old, and the concentration of PM2.5 was controlled at 2 mg/m3. At 28 days old, the lung injury score, relative mRNA expression of inflammatory factors, T-cell differentiation, and dendritic cell function were significantly increased in the PM group compared to the CON group, and those of the PMA group were significantly decreased compared to the PM group. There were significant differences in both α and ß diversity of cecal microbiota among these three groups. Numerous bacterial genera showed significant differences in relative abundance among the three groups. In conclusion, gut microbiota could affect PM2.5-induced lung inflammation in broilers by adjusting the capacity of antigen-presenting cells to activate T-cell differentiation. IMPORTANCE: Gut microbes can influence the development of lung inflammation, and fine particulate matter collected from broiler houses can lead to lung inflammation in broilers. In this study, we explored the effect of gut microbes modified by intestinal non-absorbable antibiotics on particulate matter-induced lung inflammation. The results showed that modification in the composition of gut microbiota could alleviate lung inflammation by attenuating the ability of dendritic cells to stimulate T-cell differentiation, which provides a new way to protect lung health in poultry farms.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Some plants germinate their seeds enclosed by a pericarp, whereas others lack the outer packaging. As a maternal tissue, the pericarp might impart seeds with different germination strategies. Plants in a community with different flowering times might separately disperse and germinate their seeds; therefore, flowering time can be considered as one manifestation of maternal effects on the offspring. The mass of the seed is another important factor influencing germination and represents the intrinsic resource of the seed that supports germination. Using seeds from a species-rich alpine meadow located in the Hengduan Mountains of China, a global biodiversity hotspot, we aimed to illustrate whether and how the type of seed (with or without a pericarp) modulates the interaction of flowering time and seed mass with germination. METHODS: Seeds were germinated in generally favourable conditions, and the speed of germination [estimated by mean germination time (MGT)] was calculated. We quantified the maternal conditions by separation of flowering time for 67 species in the meadow, of which 31 produced seeds with pericarps and 36 yielded seeds without pericarps. We also weighed 100 seeds of each species to assess their mass. KEY RESULTS: The MGT varied between the two types of seeds. For seeds with pericarps, MGT was associated with flowering time but not with seed mass. Plants with earlier flowering times in the meadow exhibited more rapid seed germination. For seeds without a pericarp, the MGT depended on seed mass, with smaller seeds germinating more rapidly than larger seeds. CONCLUSIONS: The distinct responses of germination to flowering time and seed mass observed in seeds with and without a pericarp suggest that germination strategies might be mother-reliant for seeds protected by pericarps but self-reliant for those without such protection. This new finding improves our understanding of seed germination by integrating ecologically mediated maternal conditions and inherent genetic properties.

RESUMO

The tiller inhibition (tin) and Reduced height (Rht) genes strongly influence the carbon partitioning and architecture of wheat shoots, but their effects on the energy economy of roots have not been examined in detail. We examined multiple root traits in three sets of near-isogenic wheat lines (NILs) that differ in the tin gene or various dwarfing gene alleles (Rht-B1b, Rht-D1b, Rht-B1c and Rht-B1b + Rht-D1b) to determine their effects on root structure, anatomy and carbon allocation. The tin gene resulted in fewer tillers but more costly roots in an extreme tin phenotype with a Banks genetic background due to increases in root-to-shoot ratio, total root length, and whole root respiration. However, this effect depended on the genetic background as tin caused both smaller shoots and roots in a different genetic background. The semi-dwarf gene Rht-B1b caused few changes to the root structure, whereas Rht-D1b, Rht-B1c and the double dwarf (Rht-B1b + Rht-D1b) decreased the root biomass. Rht-B1c reduced the energy cost of roots by increasing specific root length, increasing the volume of cortical aerenchyma and by reducing root length, number, and biomass without affecting the root-to-shoot ratio. This work informs researchers using tin and Rht genes how to modify root system architecture to suit specific environments.

RESUMO

The development of stable and effective catalysts to convert toxic H2S into high value-added sulfur is essential for production safety and environmental protection. However, the inherent defects of traditional iron- and zirconium-based catalysts, such as poor activity, high oxygen consumption, and low sulfur selectivity, limit their further developments and applications. Herein, the Fe-Zr bimetallic organic framework FeUIO-66(x) with different cubic morphologies was synthesized via a facile solvothermal method. The results indicate that the introduction of Fe not only increases the specific surface area and weak L-sites of the catalyst without changing its crystal structure, which provides enough reaction space and more active sites for the adsorption and activation of H2S, but also reduces the activation energy of the reaction, significantly promoting the selective oxidation of H2S. As a result, the as-obtained FeUIO-66(1) catalyst exhibits the highest desulfurization activity and superior durability and water resistance stability, and its H2S conversion and sulfur selectivity within 50 h are 100 and 88%, respectively. More importantly, the structure of the catalyst after the desulfurization reaction is consistent with that of the fresh counterpart. The study offers new insights into the development of effective and stable bimetallic catalysts to eliminate H2S and recycle sulfur.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Evidences of comparison of sex difference in Chinese irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients were few. We aim to compare gender difference in the biopsychosocial characteristics of Chinese patients of IBS predominant with diarrhea (IBS-D). METHODS: IBS-D patients meeting Rome III criteria were enrolled. We administered IBS symptom questionnaires, evaluation of psychological status (HAMD and HAMA scales) and IBS quality of life (IBS-QOL), dietary habits, healthcare seeking behaviors, and compared biopsychosocial characteristics between male and female patients. RESULTS: Four hundred and ninety patients were enrolled including 299 males and 191 females. More female patients reported abdominal pain associated with defecation (84.3% vs. 74.9%, P = 0.014) while males reported more abdominal discomfort (39.8% vs. 26.7%, P = 0.003). Females had higher IBS symptom score (9.7 ± 1.7 vs. 9.4 ± 1.4, P = 0.025) and more of females had severe abdominal pain/discomfort (17.8% vs. 12.4%, P = 0.013) while there were no significant differences of other bowel symptoms. Females reported higher incidence of comorbid anxiety state (64.9% vs. 52.8%, P = 0.008) and depression state (35.6% vs. 19.7%, P < 0.001) than males. Female patients also had lower IBS-QOL score (70.2 ± 20.4 vs. 75.1 ± 16.8, P = 0.028) and more frequent consultations, as well as less response for dietary modification than males. CONCLUSIONS: Chinese female patients with IBS-D had more prominent psychosocial disorders compared to male patients and their abdominal symptoms had minor differences.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Phytobacter diazotrophicus (P. diazotrophicus) is an opportunistic pathogen that causes nosocomial outbreaks and sepsis. However, there are no reports of P. diazotrophicus isolated from human blood in China. CASE PRESENTATION: A 27-day-old female infant was admitted to our hospital with fever and high bilirubin levels. The clinical features included jaundice, abnormal coagulation, cholestasis, fever, convulsions, weak muscle tension, sucking weakness, ascites, abnormal tyrosine metabolism, cerebral oedema, abnormal liver function, clavicle fracture, and haemolytic anaemia. The strain isolated from the patient's blood was identified as P. diazotrophicus by whole-genome sequencing (WGS). Galactosemia type 1 (GALAC1) was diagnosed using whole-exome sequencing (WES). Based on drug sensitivity results, 10 days of anti-infective treatment with meropenem combined with lactose-free milk powder improved symptoms. CONCLUSION: P. diazotrophicus was successfully identified in a patient with neonatal sepsis combined with galactosemia. Galactosemia may be an important factor in neonatal sepsis. This case further expands our understanding of the clinical characteristics of GALAC1.

RESUMO

AIMS: To evaluate the correlation between left atrial stiffness index (LASI) and left ventricular diastolic function in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) by Autostrain LA technique. METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis that included a total of 82 CHD patients who had suitable image quality for left atrial strain measurement. According to the 2016 ASE/EACVI guidelines for the echocardiographic assessment of diastolic dysfunction, the patients were divided into three groups: normal left ventricular diastolic function group (n = 26), indeterminate left ventricular diastolic function (n = 36), and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) (n = 20). The left atrial conduit strain (LAScd), Left atrial contractile strain (LASct), left atrial reservoir strain (LASr) and its derived parameters, including LASI and left atrial filling index (LAFI), were compared among the three groups. Furthermore, we conduct a correlation analysis between LASI and left ventricular diastolic function in patients with CHD. RESULTS: LASr and LAScd in normal group were higher than those in indeterminate group, LASr and LAScd in indeterminate group were higher than those in LVDD group, LASI in normal group was lower than that in indeterminate group, and LASI in indeterminate group was lower than that in LVDD group (P < 0.001). LASct in both normal and indeterminate groups was higher than that in LVDD group (P < 0.05). The LAFI of normal group was lower than that of indeterminate group and LVDD group (P < 0.001). LASI was positively correlated with E/e'(r = 0.822) (P < 0.001). LASr and E/e' were negatively correlated (r = -0.637) (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: LASI is closely related to the changes of left ventricular diastolic function in CHD patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Transcolonic endoscopic appendectomy (TEA) is rapidly evolving and has been reported as a minimally invasive alternative to appendectomy. We aimed to characterize the feasibility and safety of a novel unassisted single-channel TEA. METHOD: We retrospectively investigated 23 patients with appendicitis or appendiceal lesions who underwent TEA from February 2016 to December 2022. We collected clinicopathological characteristics, procedurerelated parameters, and followup data and analyzed the impact of previous abdominal surgery and traction technique. RESULTS: The mean age was 56.0 years. Of the 23 patients with appendiceal lesions, fourteen patients underwent TEA and nine underwent traction-assisted TEA (T-TEA). Eight patients (34.8%) had previous abdominal surgery. The En bloc resection rate was 95.7%. The mean procedure duration was 91.1 ± 45.5 min, and the mean wound closure time was 29.4 ± 18.6 min. The wounds after endoscopic appendectomy were closed with clips (21.7%) or a combination of clip closure and endoloop reinforcement (78.3%), and the median number of clips was 7 (range, 3-15). Three patients (13.0%) experienced major adverse events, including two delayed perforations (laparoscopic surgery) and one infection (salvage endoscopic suture). During a median follow-up of 23 months, no residual or recurrent lesions were observed, and no recurrence of abdominal pain occurred. There were no significant differences between TEA and T-TEA groups and between patients with and without abdominal surgery groups in each factor. CONCLUSION: Unassisted single-channel TEA for patients with appendiceal lesions has favorable short- and long-term outcomes. TEA can safely and effectively treat appendiceal disease in appropriately selected cases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous abortion is a common complication of pregnancy that can lead to adverse physical and psychological outcomes for women. Vitamin D is reported to be associated with reproductive functions, whereas its casual effects on abortion remains unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to systematically assess the causal relationships between serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentration and the risk of spontaneous abortion. GWAS summary data of 25(OH)D were used as exposure, and data of spontaneous abortion was considered as outcome. A retrospective study was additionally conducted to verify the MR results. RESULTS: MR estimates showed that a higher 25(OH)D level was potentially associated with decreased risk of spontaneous abortion (IVW, OR = 0.98, 95%CI = 0.90-1.06; MR Egger, OR = 0.94, 95%CI = 0.84-1.05; Weighted median, OR = 0.93, 95%CI = 0.82-1.06; Weighted mode, OR = 0.93, 95%CI = 0.84-1.03), though the P-value was not statistically significant. The retrospective study also produced consistent result of Vitamin D's protective role to spontaneous abortion. The P-value was very close to statistical significance (P = 0.053). CONCLUSIONS: This study reports the potential protective role of serum 25(OH)D concentration to spontaneous abortion, suggesting that increased vitamin D levels may decrease the risk of abortion. Further larger prospective studies and/or even randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm causal relationship between vitamin D and abortion.

RESUMO

Asthma is a common chronic lung disease, and COVID-19 pandemic as a respiratory viral disease led to lung infection and resulted in millions of deaths. So, the impact of COVID-19 on asthma outcomes and the risk of being infected or hospitalized should be clarified. Systematic review and meta-analysis on the outcomes and risk of asthma for people with COVID-19 was done by searching electronic databases between 1 December 2019 and 31 July 2023. A total of 48 studies from 27 countries spread across all continents were included in the review. The prevalence of asthma among COVID-19 patients was 7.9%, and the analysis demonstrated a 16.5% reduction in the risk ratio for acquiring COVID-19 among subjects with asthma compared to those without asthma. There was no statistically significant difference in hospitalization risk, ICU admission risk, and death risk for COVID-19 patients with no asthma compared to those with asthma. The risk of death from COVID-19 was similar between nonasthmatics and asthmatics. The findings indicated that subjects with asthma may be at a lower risk of having infection with COVID-19 compared to those without asthma, but they have a similar risk of hospitalization and mortality.

RESUMO

In Henan, strawberry cultivation occurs on approximately 10,000 hectares, with annual production approaching 230,000 tons. In April 2022, a root rot disease with a 10% incidence rate was observed on the strawberry cultivars 'Ningyu' and 'Sweet Charlie' grown in plastic greenhouses (0.7 ha) located in Xingyang (113.39°E, 34.79°N), Henan, China. Disease symptoms included yellowing of the outer mature leaves, stunted growth, and subsequent wilting of the entire plant. The roots developed dark brown spots, which gradually turned necrotic (Figures 1a, 1b). To determine the causal agent, four symptomatic plants (two plants per cultivar) were collected. Twelve symptomatic root tissues (three root tissue samples per plant) were surface sterilized with 75% ethanol and 0.1% mercuric chloride, washed thrice in sterile water, air dried, and then placed on PDA at 25°C for 3 days. Eight pure isolates were obtained by hyphal-tip isolation (Fang 2007). Each colony had a dark olivaceous green to brown, cottony appearance with a round margin, and the reverse side was grey-black near the center (Figure 1c). Conidia were ellipsoidal, aseptate, with rounded ends, and 3.1 to 4.8 µm × 1.0 to 2.5 µm in size (Figure 1d). Chlamydospores were ellipsoidal, pale brown, and 7.9 to 11.9 µm × 7.6 to 10.7 µm in size (Figure 1e). A representative fungus isolate, designated as Z5, was selected for further molecular identification. Genomic DNA was extracted from the mycelia of isolate Z5, and four gene partial regions (ITS, TUB2, RPB2, and LSU) were amplified using the primer pairs ITS1/ITS4, Bt-2a/Bt-2b, RPB2-5F/RPB2-7CR and LROR/LR5, respectively (White et al.1990, O'Donnell et al.1997, Reeb et al. 2004, Rehner and Samuels 1994). PCR products were sequenced and submitted to GenBank with the following accession numbers OQ130480 (ITS), OQ190093 (TUB2), OQ190092 (RPB2), and OQ255570 (LSU). BLASTn search revealed that the ITS, TUB2, RPB2, and LSU gene sequences of isolate Z5 showed 99.42% (513/516 bp), 99.69% (320/321 bp), 100% (1071/1071 bp), and 100% (857/857 bp) identity with those of ex-type S. pogostemonis stain ZHKUCC 21-0001 (Dong et al. 2021), respectively. A phylogenetic tree was constructed showing that Z5 clustered with S. pogostemonis (Figure 2). The isolates in this study were identified as S. pogostemonis based on morphological and molecular evidence. To confirm pathogenicity, five one-month-old 'Ningyu' cultivar strawberry seedlings were planted in sterilized nursery soil mixed with wheat grains (0.5% w/w) coated with Z5 mycelia (Fang 2007). An equal number of strawberry seedlings were placed in pots filled with non-infected potting mix to serve as controls. The seedlings were kept in a greenhouse under a 12 h light/dark photoperiod at 25°C. After two weeks, the inoculated seedlings displayed symptoms such as leaf wilting and root necrosis, similar to those observed in the greenhouses, while the control seedlings showed no symptoms (Figures 1f, 1g). The experiment was performed thrice. The identical fungus was re-isolated from the symptomatic roots and identified as S. pogostemonis based on morphological characteristics and molecular analysis, thus fulfilling Koch's postulates. This is the first report of S. pogostemonis causing root rot on strawberries worldwide. Our findings will contribute to a more comprehensive study on investigating and managing this disease.

RESUMO

A core-shell ZIF-67@ZIF-8-derived Co nanoparticles embedded in N-doped carbon nanotube polyhedra (Co/C-NCNP) hybrid nanostructure was prepared by a pyrolysis method. The synthesized Co/C-NCNP was modified on the screen-printed carbon electrode and used for the portable wireless sensitive determination of breviscapine (BVC) by differential pulse voltammetry. The Co/C-NCNP had a large surface area and excellent catalytic activity with increasing Co sites to combine with BVC for selective determination, which led to the improvement of the sensitivity of the electrochemical sensor. Under optimized conditions, the constructed sensor had linear ranges from 0.15 to 20.0 µmol/L and 20.0 to 100.0 µmol/L with the limit of detection of 0.014 µmol/L (3S0/S). The sensor was successfully applied to BVC tablet sample analysis with satisfactory results. This work provided the potential applications of zeolitic imidazolate framework-derived nanomaterials in the fabrication of electrochemical sensors for the sensitive detection of drug samples.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to summarize the clinical features of non-syndromic late developing supernumerary teeth (LDST) and comparisons with common supernumerary teeth (ST) and explore the association between LDST and the third dentition. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study retrospected cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and medical history of 41,903 consecutive patients from January to December 2021. Comparisons between ST and LDST were evaluated by Chi-square test or Fisher exact test. Correlation between chronological age and dental stage age was evaluated by Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to explore the features of LDST originating from the third dentition. RESULTS: Sixty patients with 126 non-syndromic LDST and 1602 patients with 1988 non-syndromic ST were identified. The prevalence of ST and LDST was 3.82% and 0.14%, respectively, with a male-female ratio of 1.78:1 and 1.31:1. LDST patients mainly had LDST in multiple (58.33%) and bilaterally (41.67%), with an average of 2.1/patient. Most LDST were normal-shaped (84.13%), vertically oriented (71.43%), located in the mandible (80.16%), and distributed in the premolar region (82.54%). The study also indicated that the development of LDST was correlated with permanent teeth, with LDST developing 6.48 to 10.45 years later. In this study, 72.22% of LDST met the clinical criteria for the third dentition. CONCLUSIONS: LDST manifested different clinical features from common ST. LDST might be closely related to the third dentition. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This work would help to comprehend LDST from a clinical perspective, and may be complementary to the criteria of the third dentition.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To analyze the hotspots and trends in artificial intelligence (AI) research in the field of cataracts. METHODS: The Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection was used to collect the research literature related to AI in the field of cataracts, which was analyzed for valuable information such as years, countries/regions, journals, institutions, citations, and keywords. Visualized co-occurrence network graphs were generated through the library online analysis platform, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace tools. RESULTS: A total of 222 relevant research articles from 41 countries were selected. Since 2019, the number of related articles has increased significantly every year. China (n = 82, 24.92%), the United States (n = 55, 16.72%) and India (n = 26, 7.90%) were the three countries with the most publications, accounting for 49.54% of the total. The Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (n = 13, 5.86%) and Translational Vision Science & Technology (n = 10, 4.50%) had the most publications. Sun Yat-sen University (n = 25, 11.26%), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (n = 17, 7.66%), and Capital Medical University (n = 16, 7.21%) are the three institutions with the highest number of publications. We discovered through keyword analysis that cataract, diagnosis, imaging, classification, intraocular lens, and formula are the main topics of current study. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed the hot spots and potential trends of AI in terms of cataract diagnosis and intraocular lens power calculation. AI will become more prevalent in the field of ophthalmology in the future.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To explore the effect of green channel for stroke patients on the treatment of severe aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. METHODS: This is a retrospective case-control study. The clinical data of patients with severe aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage admitted to the emergency department of our hospital from January 2015 to June 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage, confirmed intracranial aneurysm by preoperative CT angiography or digital subtraction, graded Hunt-Hess grade III, IV, and V, < 72 h from the onset to the time of consultation received surgical treatment in our hospital were included in this study. Patients with serious underlying diseases, such as heart, liver, kidney diseases, or malignant tumors, traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, previous history of cerebral hemorrhage, and incomplete data were excluded. The control group included patients with severe aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage admitted from January 2015 to December 2018 before the establishment of the green channel for stroke patients, and the observation group included patients with severe aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage admitted from January 2019 to June 2022 after the establishment of the green channel. The control group received routine treatment in the emergency department; the observation group received improved treatment of green channel for stroke patients. Gender, age, Hunt-Hess grade on admission, modified Rankin scale (mRS) on admission, aneurysm location, aneurysm size and whether accompanied by intracerebral hemorrhage, the time from onset to emergency department, the time from emergency department to vascular diagnostic examination, the time from onset to surgery, the time from emergency department to surgery, the time from hospital admission to surgery, length of hospital stay, complications, treatment effect were analyzed and compared between the 2 groups. SPSS 23.0 software was utilized to conduct comparisons between the 2 groups. The t-test, Chi-square test, or Mann-Whitney U test was chosen based on the data type. Statistical significance was established when p < 0.05. RESULTS: A total of 71 patients were included in this study, of whom 37 were in the control group and 34 were in the observation group. There were no statistical differences in age, gender, Hunt-Hess grade, mRS scores, aneurysm location, aneurysm size, intracerebral hemorrhage, the time from onset to emergency department, length of hospital stay, complications between the observation group and the control group (all p > 0.05). The time (min) from visit to vascular diagnostic test (60.50 vs. 120.00, p = 0.027), the time (min) from onset to surgery (1792.00 vs. 2868.00, p = 0.023), the time (min) from emergency department to surgery (1568.50 vs. 2778.00, p = 0.016), the time (min) from hospital admission to surgery (1188.50 vs. 2708.00, p = 0.043), all of them were shorter in the observation group than those in the control group. The relative values of admission and 7-day postoperative mRS scores and the relative values of admission and discharge mRS scores ≥ 2 were used as the criteria for determining better efficacy, and the treatment effect was better than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (admission to 7 days postoperative mRS score ≥ 2, 17 (50.0 %) vs. 8 (21.6 %), p = 0.012; admission to discharge mRS score ≥ 2, 19 (55.9 %) vs. 11 (29.7 %), p = 0.026). CONCLUSION: The green channel for stroke patients with severe aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage can effectively shorten the time from arrival at the emergency department to vascular diagnostic examination and the time from the emergency department to surgery, and achieve a better therapeutic effect, which is worth popularizing and applying.

RESUMO

The new sensible thermal energy storage materials were prepared by the sintering method with low-grade pyrophyllite mineral powders as main raw materials, Suzhou clay as the sintering aid and sulfite liquors as the binder. Further, the performance of sensible thermal energy storage under different size distributions and sintering temperatures was investigated and analyzed. The results show that the optimum particle size distribution is 50:15:35, the bulk density, thermal conductivity, and specific heat capacity are the largest values, which are 1.97 g cm-3, 0.87 W m-1 K-1 and 0.63 kJ kg-1 K-1, respectively. Other properties including porosity, water absorption, flexural and compressive strength and so on are optimal under this size distribution. When the sintering temperature is 1200 °C, the material has a good thermal conductivity of 0.89 W m-1 K-1 and a high bulk density of 2.05 g cm-3. Meanwhile, the sample with the used temperature from 50 to 900 °C has the best thermal energy storage capacity of 306.29 kWh·m-3.

RESUMO

2-hydroxyglutarate has limited abundance in normal tissues but a high level under certain pathologic conditions. To clarify the diagnostic value of two chiral isomers of 2-hydroxyglutarate in plasma and urine of Chinese cancer patients, an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric method was developed for simultaneous quantification of D-/L-2-hydroxyglutarate. The selected D-/L-2-hydroxyglutarate-d5 as internal standards were added to samples before the SPE on Waters Oasis® MAX 96-Well plate (30 µm, 60 mg). A derivatization step with (+)-O,O'-diacetyl-L-tartaric anhydride permitted the chromatography separation of D-/L-2-hydroxyglutarate on an ACQUITY UPLC-HSS T3 column (50 × 2.1 mm, i.d. 1.8 µm) with acetonitrile and water (containing 0.1% formic acid and 10 mmol ammonium acetate) as the mobile phase. The calibration curves showed good linearity (R ≥ 0.99) over the concentration ranges of 200-5,000 ng/mL and 500-20,000 ng/mL for analysis of D-/L-2-hydroxyglutarate in plasma and urine samples, respectively. Intra- and inter-run precision were ≤ 12.33%, and the accuracy was within the range of -10.44 to 13.90%. This method was further successfully applied to clinical sample analysis in isocitrate dehydrogenase 1/2 mutated Chinese cancer patients.
