RESUMO

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and ionic liquids (ILs) represent promising materials for adsorption separation. ILs incorporated into MOF materials (denoted as IL/MOF composites) have been developed, and IL/MOF composites combine the advantages of MOFs and ILs to achieve enhanced performance in the adsorption-based separation of fluid mixtures. The designed different ILs are introduced into the various MOFs to tailor their functional properties, which affect the optimal adsorptive separation performance. In this Perspective, the rational fabrication of IL/MOF composites is presented, and their functional properties are demonstrated. This paper provides a critical overview of an emergent class of materials termed IL/MOF composites as well as the recent advances in the applications of IL/MOF composites as adsorbents or membranes in fluid separation. Furthermore, the applications of IL/MOF in adsorptive gas separations (CO2 capture from flue gas, natural gas purification, separation of acetylene and ethylene, indoor pollutants removal) and liquid separations (separation of bioactive components, organic-contaminant removal, adsorptive desulfurization, radionuclide removal) are discussed. Finally, the existing challenges of IL/MOF are highlighted, and an appropriate design strategy direction for the effective exploration of new IL/MOF adsorptive materials is proposed.

OBJECTIVES: Childhood adversity and lifestyle have been associated with frailty in later life, but not much is known about factors that may explain these associations. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the association of childhood adversity with frailty, and the mediating role of unhealthy lifestyle in the association. METHODS: This lifespan analysis included 152,914 adults aged 40-69 years old from the UK Biobank. We measured childhood adversity with five items: physical neglect, emotional neglect, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and emotional abuse through online mental health survey. Frailty was measured by the frailty index; an unhealthy lifestyle score (range: 0-5) was calculated based on unhealthy body mass index, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diet at the baseline survey. Multiple logistic regression and mediation analysis were performed. RESULTS: A total of 10,078 participants (6.6%) were defined as having frailty. Participants with any childhood adversity had higher odds of frailty. For example, in the fully adjusted model, with a one-point increase in cumulative score of childhood adversity, the odds of frailty increased by 38% (odds ratio: 1.38; 95% Confidence Interval: 1.36, 1.40). Unhealthy lifestyle partially mediated the associations of childhood adversity with frailty (mediation proportion: 4.4%-7.0%). The mediation proportions were largest for physical (8.2%) and sexual (8.1%) abuse. CONCLUSIONS: Childhood adversity was positively associated with frailty, and unhealthy lifestyle partially mediated the association. This newly identified pathway highlights the potential of lifestyle intervention strategies among those who experienced childhood adversity (in particular, physical, and sexual abuse) to promote healthy aging.

P2Y12 receptor (P2Y12R) is an adenosine-activated G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that plays a central role in platelet function, hemostasis, and thrombosis. P2Y12R activation can promote platelet aggregation and adhesion to cancer cells, promote tumor angiogenesis, and affect the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and tumor drug resistance, which is conducive to the progression of cancers. Meanwhile, P2Y12R inhibitors can inhibit this effect, suggesting that P2Y12R may be a potential therapeutic target for cancer. P2Y12R is involved in cancer development and metastasis, while P2Y12R inhibitors are effective in inhibiting cancer. However, a new study suggests that long-term use of P2Y12R inhibitors may increase the risk of cancer and the mechanism remains to be explored. In this paper, we reviewed the structural and functional characteristics of P2Y12R and its role in cancer. We explored the role of P2Y12R inhibitors in different tumors and the latest advances by summarizing the basic and clinical studies on the effects of P2Y12R inhibitors on tumors.

Rising temperatures pose a threat to the stability of climate regulation by carbon metabolism in subtropical forests. Although the effects of temperature on leaf carbon metabolism traits in sun-exposed leaves are well understood, there is limited knowledge about its impacts on shade leaves and the implications for ecosystem-climate feedbacks. In this study, we measured temperature response curves of photosynthesis and respiration for 62 woody species in summer (including both evergreen and deciduous species) and 20 evergreen species in winter. The aim was to uncover the temperature dependence of carbon metabolism in both sun and shade leaves in subtropical forests. Our findings reveal that shade had no significant effects on the mean optimum photosynthetic temperatures (TOpt) or temperature range (T90). However, there were decreases observed in mean stomatal conductance, mean area-based photosynthetic rates at TOpt and 25 °C, as well as mean area-based dark respiration rates at 25 °C in both evergreen and deciduous species. Moreover, the respiration-temperature sensitivity (Q10) of sun leaves was higher than that of shade leaves in winter, with the reverse being true in summer. Leaf economics spectrum traits, such as leaf mass per area, and leaf concentration of nitrogen and phosphorus across species, proved to be good predictors of TOpt, T90, mass-based photosynthetic rate at TOpt, and mass-based photosynthetic and respiration rate at 25 °C. However, Q10 was poorly predicted by these leaf economics spectrum traits except for shade leaves in winter. Our results suggest that model estimates of carbon metabolism in multilayered subtropical forest canopies do not necessitate independent parameterization of T90 and TOpt temperature responses in sun and shade leaves. Nevertheless, a deeper understanding and quantification of canopy variations in Q10 responses to temperature are necessary to confirm the generality of temperature-carbon metabolism trait responses and enhance ecosystem model estimates of carbon dynamics under future climate warming.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become an increasingly important public health disease with a high incidence rate and mortality. Although several studies have explored the effectiveness of resistance exercise in improving the prognosis of CKD patients, the number of studies is still limited and the results are still controversial. OBJECTIVES: We conducted this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCT) studies to evaluate the effectiveness of resistance exercise on CKD patients. METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched from the inception date to October 2023. The meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate 12 main indicators, including glomerular filtration rate (GFR)(ml/(min•1.73m2)), C-reactive protein (CRP) (mg/L), serum creatinine (mg/dL), hemoglobin (g/dL), Glycosylated Hemoglobin, Type A1C (HBA1c) (%), high Density Lipoprotein (HDL) (mg/dL), low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) (mg/dL), 6-min walk(m), body mass index (BMI) (kg/m2), fat-free mass (kg), fat mass (kg), grip strength (kgf). RESULTS: Sixteen RCT studies were included in this meta-analysis from 875 records. GFR exhibited no significant change in CKD patients treated with resistance exercise (WMD 1.82; 95%CI -0.59 to 4.23; P = 0.139). However, 6-min walk (WMD 89.93; 95%CI 50.12 to 129.74; P = 0.000), fat-free mass (WMD 6.53; 95%CI 1.14 to 11.93; P = 0.018) and grip strength (WMD 3.97; 95%CI 1.89 to 6.05; P = 0.000) were significantly improved with resistance exercise. The level of CRP (WMD - 2.46; 95%CI -4.21 to -0.72; P = 0.006) and HBA1c (WMD - 0.46; 95%CI -0.63 to -0.29; P = 0.000) dropped significantly after resistance exercise treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Resistance exercise can improve physical function, metabolic condition, inflammatory response and cardiopulmonary function in CKD patients, specifically reflected in the increase of indicators fat-free mass, grip strength, 6-min walk, as well as the decrease of indicators HBA1c and CRP.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the most fatal diseases in the world in recent decades. Because rapid and accurate determination of AMI has the potential to save millions of lives globally, the development of new diagnostic method is of great significance. Here, we designed a magnetic responsive structural color core-shell hydrogel microcarrier as a novel platform for a high-throughput detection of a variety of cardiovascular biomarkers. The composite hydrogel shell was formed from methacrylated gelatin, acrylic acid, and poly(ethylene glycol diacrylate), and the core silica photonic crystals acted as a detector. Fe3O4 nanoparticles were infused into the void of the core-shell structure to impart magnetic response properties to the encoded carrier. The findings indicated that our method possessed high sensitivity and reliable specificity in the high-throughput detection of AMI-related biomarkers Myo, cTnI, and BNP. In addition, the developed method not only showed good specificity and high sensitivity in clinical samples but also was comparable to the clinical gold standard method. Therefore, the magnetic response structural color core-shell hydrogel carriers were regarded as a potential approach to detect some AMI disease-related biomarkers.

BACKGROUND: Comorbidities among cancer survivors remain a serious healthcare burden and require appropriate management. Using two widely used frailty indicators, this study aimed to evaluate whether frailty was associated with the incidence risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among long-term cancer survivors. METHODS: We included 13,388 long-term cancer survivors (diagnosed with cancer over 5 years before enrolment) free of CVD and 6101 long-term cancer survivors free of T2DM, at the time of recruitment (aged 40-69 years), from the UK Biobank. Frailty was assessed by the frailty phenotype (FP_Frailty, range: 0-5) and the frailty index (FI_Frailty, range: 0-1) at baseline. The incident CVD and T2DM were ascertained through linked hospital data and primary care data, respectively. The associations were examined using Cox proportional hazards regression models. RESULTS: Compared with non-frail participants, those with pre-frailty (FP_Frailty [met 1-2 of the components]: hazard ratio [HR]=1.18, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.05, 1.32; FI_Frailty [0.10< FI ≤0.21]: HR=1.51, 95% CI: 1.32, 1.74) and frailty (FP_Frailty [met ≥3 of the components]: HR=2.12, 95% CI: 1.73, 2.60; FI_Frailty [FI >0.21]: HR=2.19, 95% CI: 1.85, 2.59) had a significantly higher risk of CVD in the multivariable-adjusted model. A similar association of FI_Frailty with the risk of incident T2DM was observed. We failed to find such an association for FP_Frailty. Notably, the very early stage of frailty (1 for FP_Frailty and 0.1-0.2 for FI_Frailty) was also positively associated with the risk of CVD and T2DM (FI_Frailty only). A series of sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of the findings. CONCLUSIONS: Frailty, even in the very early stage, was positively associated with the incidence risk of CVD and T2DM among long-term cancer survivors, although discrepancies existed between frailty indicators. While the validation of these findings is required, they suggest that routine monitoring, prevention, and interventive programs of frailty among cancer survivors may help to prevent late comorbidities and, eventually, improve their quality of life. Especially, interventions are recommended to target those at an early stage of frailty when healthcare resources are limited.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of gastric cancer remains a challenge. METHODS: We divided gastric cancer into three subtypes based on 14 cancer functional states. We investigated differences between subtypes through multi-omics data, especially at the single-cell level, which allowed us to analyze differences from the perspective of each type of cell rather than the whole. RESULTS: The cluster 1 is characterized by high levels of tumor progression-related cancer functional status, worst survival outcomes, low metabolic level, high infiltration of immunosuppressive cells, high copy number variations (CNV), and low tumor mutational burden (TMB). The cluster 2 is characterized by low levels of tumor progression-related cancer functional status, favorable prognosis, moderate metabolic level, low immune cell infiltration, high CNV, and moderate TMB. Then, the cluster 3 is characterized by the high level of all cancer functional status, high metabolic level, low CNV, high TMB, high infiltration of immune cells with high cytotoxicity, and better response to immunotherapy. We also established a prognostic model based on cancer functional status and validated its robustness. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, our study identified gastric cancer subtypes and provided new insights into the clinical treatment of gastric cancer.

Aplastic anemia (AA) is a T cell immune mediated autoimmune disease in which cytokines, particularly IFN-γ are pathogenesis factors. Glucose metabolism is closely related to effector functions of activated T cells, such as IFN-γ production. The characteristics of glucose metabolism and whether interfering with glucose metabolism could affect T cells produce IFN-γ ability in AA patients remains unknown. In this study, we examined the characteristics of glucose metabolism in T cells from AA patients and the effects of the glucose metabolism inhibitor 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) on the ability of T cell production IFN-γ. Our data demonstrated abnormal glucose metabolism in stimulated T cells from AA patients, mainly reflected by increased glucose uptake and lactate secretion. In addition, EM and TEMRA cells exhibit higher glucose uptake in patients with AA compared with healthy individuals. Moreover, the frequency of IFN-γ+ was reduced by 2-DG in T cell from AA patients. Unexpectedly, 2-DG re-normalized the frequency of IFN-γ+ in other T cell subsets, except for in the TEMRA. In conclusion, our study reveals for the first time the existence of enhanced aerobic glycolysis in T cells from AA patients, and different T cell subsets exhibit different extent glucose uptake requirements. Aerobic glycolysis regulation may be a potential therapeutic strategy for aberrant T cell immunity. Moreover, TEMRA may have specific metabolic abnormalities, which should receive more attention in future targeted immune metabolism research.

Cortex radius (CR) and stele radius (SR) are important functional traits associated with the nutrient acquisition and transport functions of fine roots, respectively. However, for developmental and anatomical reasons, the resource acquisition-transport relationship of fine roots is expected to be different for different root orders. To address this issue, critical fine root anatomical traits were examined for the first three orders of roots of 59 subtropical woody plants. Designating the most distal fine roots as order one, SR scaled isometrically with respect to root radius (RR) (i.e., SR ∝ RR1.0) in the three root orders, whereas CR scaled allometrically with respect to RR (i.e., CR ∝ RR>1.0) with the numerical values of scaling exponents increasing significantly with increasing root orders thereby indicating a disproportional increase in CR with increasing root orders. There were also differences between normalized root tissue (CR/RR and SR/RR) and RR in different root orders. A negative isometric relationship (i.e., SR/RR ∝ RR-1.0) existed between SR/RR and RR in three order roots, whereas the allometric exponent between CR/RR and RR increased with root order (from 0.88 to 1.55). Collectively, the data indicate that root anatomical and functional traits change as a function of RR and that these changes need to be considered when modeling fine root resource acquisition-transport functions.

For the fatigue reliability analysis of aeroengine blade-disc systems, the traditional direct integral modelling methods or separate independent modelling methods will lead to low computational efficiency or accuracy. In this work, a physics-informed ensemble learning (PIEL) method is proposed, i.e. firstly, based on the physical characteristics of blade-disc systems, the complex multi-component reliability analysis is split into a series of single-component reliability analyses; moreover, the PIEL model is established by introducing the mapping of multiple constitutive responses and the multi-material physical characteristics into the ensemble learning; finally, the PIEL-based system reliability framework is established by quantifying the failure correlation with the Copula function. The reliability analysis of a typical aeroengine high-pressure turbine blade-disc system is regarded as an example to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Compared with the direct Monte Carlo, support vector regression, neural network, ensemble learning and physics-informed neural network, the proposed method exhibits the highest computing accuracy and efficiency, and is validated to be an efficient method for the reliability analysis of blade-disc systems. The current work can provide a novel insight for physics-informed modelling and fatigue reliability analyses. OBJECTIVES: Whether household air pollution is associated with dementia risk remains unknown. This study examined the associations between solid fuel use for cooking and heating (the main source of household air pollution) and dementia risk. METHODS: This analysis included data on 11,352 participants (aged 45+ years) from the 2011 wave of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, with follow-up to 2018. Dementia risk was assessed by a risk score using the Rotterdam Study Basic Dementia Risk Model (BDRM), which was subsequently standardized for analysis. Household fuel types of cooking and heating were categorized as solid (e.g., coal and crop residue) and clean (e.g., central heating and solar). Multivariable analyses were performed using generalized estimating equations. Moreover, we examined the joint associations of solid fuel use for cooking and heating with the BDRM score. RESULTS: After adjusting for potential confounders, we found an independent and significant association of solid (vs. clean) fuel use for cooking and heating with a higher BDRM score (e.g., ß = 0.17 for solid fuel for cooking; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.15-0.19). Participants who used solid (vs. clean) fuel for both cooking and heating had the highest BDRM score (ß = 0.32; 95% CI: 0.29-0.36). Subgroup analysis suggested stronger associations in participants living in rural areas. CONCLUSIONS: Solid fuel use for cooking and heating was independently associated with increased dementia risk in Chinese middle-aged and older adults, particularly among those living in rural areas. Our findings call for more efforts to facilitate universal access to clean energy for dementia prevention.

BACKGROUND: Micro RNA (miRNA) plays important roles in macrophage polarization. However, the manner in which miRNA regulate macrophage polarization in response to dermatophagoides farinae protein 1(Der f1)-induced asthma has not been defined. This study aims to explore the role of miRNAs in regulating macrophages in asthma. METHODS: The microRNAs which may regulate asthma were selectd by Microarrays. The function of miR-125b-5p in macrophage and Der f1-induced asthma were detected in vivo experiment. The long non coding RNA (lncRNA) AK089514/miR-125b-5p/TRAF6 axis was predicted by bioinformatics and confirmed by dual luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS: In this study, we found that miR-125b-5p is highly expressed in M2 macrophages and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) cells with Der f1-induced asthma. In response to the challenge of Der f1, miR-125b-5p KD attenuated allergic airway inflammation of mice by preventing M2 macrophages polarization. Mechanistic studies indicated that lncRNA AK089514 functioned as a competing endogenous RNA for miR-125b-5p, thereby leading to the depression of its endogenous target TNF receptor associated factor 6 (TRAF6). CONCLUSIONS: miR-125b-5p is significantly over-expressed in asthma, and AK089514-miR-125b-5p-TRAF6 axis play critical role in asthma by modulating macrophage polarization. Our findings may provide a potential new target for potential therapeutic and diagnostic target in asthma.

BACKGROUND: Trigger thumb is a pathologic condition of the digital pulleys and flexor tendons. To find a cutoff value of the cross-sectional area ratio of specific parts of the flexor pollicis longus tendon to diagnosis trigger thumb in the high-frequency ultrasound examination. METHODS: We evaluated 271 healthy volunteers and 57 patients with clinical diagnosis of trigger thumb. The cross-sectional area of the metacarpophalangeal joint of flexor pollicis longus tendon (C1) and the cross-sectional area of the midpoint of the first metacarpal of flexor pollicis longus tendon (C2) were analyzed. RESULTS: There is no difference between gender, age and left and right hands in the ratio of C1 to C2 (C1/ C2). The mean of C1/ C2 in the healthy thumb was 0.983 ± 0.103, which was significantly smaller in comparison to the diseased thumb (P < 0.05). Based on the receiver operating characteristic curve, we chose the diagnostic cut-off value for the C1/ C2 to be 1.362 and 1.153 in order to differ a trigger thumb from children and adults. CONCLUSIONS: The C1/ C2 of the healthy thumb was relatively stable, with a mean value of 0.983 ± 0.103. The cutoff value of C1/C2 to distinguish healthy thumb from diseased thumb in children and adults were 1.362 and 1.153, respectively.

This study was conducted to assess the mitigating effects of curcumin (Cur) on immunotoxicity in the spleen of broilers induced by the polybrominated diphenyl ether BDE-209. Eighty one-day-old broilers were allocated to the following four groups: control group, BDE-209 (0.4 g/kg) group, BDE-209 (0.4 g/kg) + Cur (0.3 mg/kg) group, and Cur (0.3 mg/kg) group. Growth performance, immunological function, inflammation, and apoptosis were assessed after 42 days of treatment. The findings demonstrate that firstly, Cur restored spleen damage caused by BDE-209 by increasing body weight, decreasing feed-to-gain ratio, correcting the spleen index, and improving the histopathological structure of the spleen. Secondly, Cur relieved BDE-209-induced immunosuppression by increasing the levels of the immunoglobulins IgG, IgM, and IgA in the serum, as well as the levels of white blood cells and lymphocytes. The levels at which GATA binding protein 3, T-box expressed in T cells, interferon-γ, and interleukin (IL)- 4 are expressed were controlled. The ratio of T helper (Th) type 1 (Th1) to Th2 cells in the spleen of broilers was also controlled. Thirdly, Cur reduced the expression of Toll like receptor (TLR) 2, TLR4, nuclear factor (NF)-κB, IL-8, IL-6, and IL-1ß, which alleviated BDE-209-induced inflammation in broilers. Cur reduced BDE-209-induced apoptosis by increasing the expression of the bcl-2 protein, decreasing the expression of cleaved caspase-3 and bax proteins, decreasing the bax/bcl-2 protein ratio, and decreasing the mean optical density of TUNEL. These results suggest that Cur protects broiler spleens from BDE-209-induced immunotoxicity via modulating humoral immunity, the equilibrium between Th1 and Th2 cells, the TLRs/NF-κB inflammatory pathway, and the apoptotic pathway.

Tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze) is among the most significant industrial crops due to its distinctive fragrance and flavor generated (Bag et al. 2022). From October to December in 2021, a leaf spot disease affected the quality and yield of tea (C. sinensis var. assamica cv. Yunkang 10), in Pu'er (100.57°E, 22.45°N), Yunnan province, China. Based on the survey, the incidence was approximately 15% in a plantation of 4500 m2 (2050 tea trees approximately). The symptoms on leaves were regular circular, dark brown lesions with black conidiomata in gray centers. Twenty symptomatic leaves were collected from 10 trees. After rinsing and surface sterilization (75% ethanol for 30 s and 3% NaClO for 90 s, rinsed 3 times with sterile distilled water), diseased tissues (5 × 5 mm) were cut at the junction of infected and healthy site and placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) (3 pieces per plate) and incubated in the dark at 28℃ for 5 days (Mao et al. 2023). Three single-spore isolates 6a-H-1, 6a-H-2 and 6a-H-3 were obtained, which showed identical in morphology and molecular analysis. Therefore, the targeted isolate 6a-H-2 was used for further study. Fungal colonies were white, then gradually turning into goose yellow (Fig.2. A-C). Chlamydospores were dark brown and oval (Fig.2. G). Asci produced after 30 days approximately, were orange-red, nearly spherical, rough-surface, and measured as 470 µm ± 11.68 µm (n = 50) (Fig.2. H). Ascospores were released from the asci orifice (Fig.2. I) which were hyaline, fusoid with rounded ends, straight to slightly curved, two septate, slightly constricted at the septum, and ranged from 48.77 ± 2.76 µm × 6.22 ± 0.41 µm (n = 50) (Fig.2. D-F). Macroconidia were cylindrical (Fig.2. J), rounded at both ends, straight, with an average length of 63.5 ± 0.31 µm × 2.62 ± 0.03 µm without septa (n=50) (Fig.2. M-O). Stipe extension terminated in sphaero-pedunculate vesicles (Fig.2. K-L). The morphological features were consistent with the descriptions of Calonectria ilicicola (Pei et al. 2015; Polizzi et al. 2012). The pathogen was confirmed to be C. ilicicola by amplification and sequencing of the histone (HIS3), translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1) and calmodulin (CAL) genes using primers H3-3F/H3-3R, EF1-728F/EF1-986R and CAL-228F/CAL-2Rd, respectively (Crous et al. 2004). The sequences of PCR products were deposited in GenBank with accession numbers OR188222 (HIS3), OR188223 (TEF1) and OR188221 (CAL). BLAST searches of the obtained sequences revealed 99.22% (510/514 nucleotides), 98.37% (241/245 nucleotides) and 99.58% (472/474 nucleotides) homology with those of C. ilicicola (CBS 190.50) in GenBank (AY725676, AY725726 and AY725764), respectively. Phylogenetic analysis (MEGA 7.0) using the Maximum Likelihood method placed the isolate 6a-H-2 in a well-supported cluster with C. ilicicola. The pathogenicity of 6a-H-2 was tested through a pot assay. Five healthy plants had their leaves scratched with a sterilized needle, then inoculated by spraying 20 mL of spore suspension (105 spores mL-1) of 6a-H-2. Five additional tea plants sprayed with sterile distilled water served as controls. All plants were placed in a growth chamber at 28℃, with 70% relative humidity. The symptoms developed on all inoculated leaves but not on the control leaves. The lesions were first visible 72 h after inoculation, and typical lesions similar to those observed on field plants appeared after 10 days. The same fungus was reisolated and identified based on the morphology and molecular analyses (HIS3, TEF1 and CAL) from the infected leaves but not from the non-inoculated leaves. To our knowledge, this is the first report of leaf spot on tea caused by C. ilicicola in China. This study provides valuable information for the identification and control of the leaf spot on tea.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) evolved from biomass gasification plays a positive role in the formation of PM2.5 and odor pollution. In order to improve the removal rate of various VOCs produced by biomass gasification, a nickel-based supported HZSM-5 cataly st (Ni/HZSM-5 and Ni-Ca-Co/HZSM-5) was prepared by different auxiliary methods, Ni loadings, and pyrolysis temperatures. The catalytic cracking performance of Ni/HZSM-5 catalysts for different VOCs model compounds such as toluene, phenol, furan, acetic acid and cyclohexane were studied in a fixed-bed reactor. The catalysts were further characterized and analyzed by XRD, SEM, XPS and BET. The results showed that the Ni/HZSM--C-Co5 catalyst prepared by ultrasonic-assisted excess impregnation method with Ni loading of 8 wt%, Ca loading of 4 wt%, Co loading of 0.1 wt% had strong catalytic activity for VOCs degradation. With the increase of the cracking temperature, the conversion rate and gas yield of from model compound cracking improved significantly. At 800 °C, the conversion of each model compound was more than 90%, accompanied by the generation of cracking gases such as H2 and CH4. The selectivity of H2 and CH4 from toluene cracking reached 93%, and cyclohexane reached 98%. The models with higher oxygen content and lower bond energy were more likely to undergo reforming reaction to form small molecular gas. Model compounds with large molecular weight and high carbon content provided more carbon sources. Under the conversion degree towards the gas direction was high. This study provides a new idea on the removal of VOCs for the efficient utilization of biomass resources.

Chronic non-healing ulcers are common among diabetic patients, posing significant therapeutic challenges. This study compared traditional therapies (TT) and emerging therapies (ET) for enhancing diabetic patients' wound healing. A total of 150 diabetic patients with chronic ulcers, ages 30-65, were randomly assigned to one of two groups: TT (n = 75) or ET (n = 75). ET included growth factors, bioengineered skin substitutes, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, while TT for wound healing predominantly included debridement, saline-moistened dressings, and off-loading techniques. The primary outcome was the percentage of lesions that healed within 12 weeks, which was assessed at intervals. Secondary outcomes included time to wound recovery, pain using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and life quality via Wound-QoL questionnaire. By the 12th week, the ET group had a repair rate of 81.33% compared to 57.33% in TT group (p < 0.05). ET exhibited superior pain reduction (VAS score: 4.7 ± 1.6 for ET vs. 6.2 ± 1.4 for TT, p < 0.05) and improved life quality (Wound-QoL score: 61.8 ± 9.1 for ET vs. 44.3 ± 10.3 for TT, p < 0.05). However, there were slightly more cases of cutaneous irritation and hematomas among ET patients. ET have demonstrated significant efficacy in accelerating wound healing in diabetic patients, surpassing traditional methods, with additional advantages in pain management and life quality. Due to the observed minor complications, however, caution is required.

Newly identified PD-1 hiCXCR5 -CD4 + T cells, termed as peripheral helper T cells (Tph), have been found elevated and playing pathogenic role in some autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatic arthritis (RA). However, the potential role of Tph cells in Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) remains unclear. Here, we explored the potential clinical significance of circulating Tph cells in the pathogenesis of AAV. Comparing 32 active AAV patients and 18 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs), we found that the frequency of circulating Tph cells was significantly expanded in active AAV patients. Besides, programmed death 1 (PD-1) expression on the surface of Tph cells was significantly up-regulated in active AAV patients. Importantly, the frequency of circulating Tph cells was greatly decreased in AAV patients after receiving treatment. Tph cells frequency was positively correlated with the Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score (BVAS), C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and cellular crescent in active AAV patients, but negatively correlated with fibrosus crescent. Tph cells frequency was also positively correlated with naïve B cells, serum concentration of MPO-ANCAs, serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), IL-4, IL-21 and IL-12. However, serum IL-10 exhibited negative correlation with circulating Tph cells in active AAV patients. These results demonstrated that circulating Tph cells are greatly expanded in active AAV patients and are positively associated with serum MPO-ANCAs and disease activity, thus contributing to the pathogenesis of AAV.

zong non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as crucial effector in modulating the progression of assorted malignancies. In our study, the main aim was to unveil the role and the underlying regulatory mechanism of long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1605 (LINC01605) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). RT-qPCR analysis results suggested that LINC01605 was upregulated in NPC cells. According to the results of function experiments, LINC01605 promoted NPC cell proliferation and impeded cell apoptosis. The oncogenic role of LINC01605 in NPC was further validated by animal experiments. Additionally, we verified that LINC01605 regulated Ikbkb expression to promote the nuclear translocation of p65 and thereby activated the NF-κB pathway in NPC cells. Mechanism experiments further suggested that LINC01605 could regulate Ikbkb expression via sponging miR-942-5p. Moreover, LINC01605 recruited IGF2BP2 to stabilize ubiquitin-specific protease 3 (USP3) mRNA and thereby enhanced the stability of IkB subunit beta (IKKß) protein. In addition, p65 acted as a transcription activator to upregulate LINC01605 in NPC cells. In conclusion, this study demonstrated a positive feedback loop between LINC01605 and the NF-κB signalling pathway that promoted NPC cell growth, thus providing new insights to better understand NPC.
