RESUMO

Salpratone A (1), a novel abietane diterpenoid containing a unique cis-fused A/B ring, was isolated from Salvia prattii. Bioactivity studies showed that 1 has potent activity in inhibiting platelet aggregation induced by multiple agonists as well as antithrombotic efficacy in the FeCl3-induced rat in vivo thrombosis model. Furthermore, a bioinspired synthesis of 1 from the abundant natural product ferruginol was achieved in 6 steps with a 22% overall yield. The key steps include a stereoselective allyl oxidation and a subsequent regioselective Meinwald rearrangement.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Helicobacter pylori infection is linked to various gastrointestinal conditions, such as chronic active gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastric cancer. Traditional treatment options encounter difficulties due to antibiotic resistance and adverse effects. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the effectiveness of a new treatment plan that combines vonoprazan (VPZ), amoxicillin, and bismuth for the eradication of H. pylori. METHODS: A total of 600 patients infected with H. pylori were recruited for this multicenter randomized controlled trial. Patients treated for H. pylori elimination were randomly assigned at a 1:1 ratio to receive 14 days of vonoprazan-based triple therapy (vonoprazan + amoxicillin + bismuth, group A) or standard quadruple therapy (esomeprazole + clarithromycin + amoxicillin + bismuth, group B). Compliance and adverse effects were tracked through daily medication and side effect records. All patients underwent a 13C/14C-urea breath test 4 weeks after treatment completion. RESULTS: Intention-to-treat (ITT) and per-protocol (PP) analyses revealed no substantial differences in H. pylori eradication rates between groups A and B (ITT: 83.7% vs 83.2%; PP: 90.9% vs 89.7%). However, significant differences were observed in the assessment of side effects (13.7% vs 28.6%, P < 0.001). Specifically, group A had significantly fewer "bitter mouths" than group B did (3.7% vs 16.2%, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Triple therapy comprising vonoprazan (20 mg), amoxicillin (750 mg), and bismuth potassium citrate (220 mg) achieved a PP eradication rate ≥90%, paralleling standard quadruple therapy, and had fewer adverse events and lower costs (¥306.8 vs ¥645.8) for treatment-naive patients.

RESUMO

In this work, we determined the phase diagram and electronic properties of the Li-Cs system by using an evolutionary crystal structure prediction algorithm coupled with first-principles calculations. We found that Li-rich compounds are more easily formed in a wide range of pressures, while the only predicted Cs-rich compound LiCs3 is thermodynamically stable at pressures above 359 GPa. A topological analysis of crystal structures concludes that both Li6Cs and Li14Cs have a unique topology that has not been reported in existing intermetallics. Of particular interest is the fact that four Li-rich compounds (Li14Cs, Li8Cs, Li7Cs, and Li6Cs) are found to be superconductors with a high critical temperature (∼54 K for Li8Cs at 380 GPa), due to their peculiar structural topologies and notable charge transfer from Li to Cs atoms. Our results not only extend an in-depth understanding of the high-pressure behavior of intermetallic compounds but also provide a new route to design new superconductors.

RESUMO

Network pharmacology and animal and cell experiments were employed to explore the mechanism of astragaloside Ⅳ(AST Ⅳ) combined with Panax notoginseng saponins(PNS) in regulating angiogenesis to treat cerebral ischemia. The method of network pharmacology was used to predict the possible mechanisms of AST Ⅳ and PNS in treating cerebral ischemia by mediating angiogenesis. In vivo experiment: SD rats were randomized into sham, model, and AST Ⅳ(10 mg·kg~(-1)) + PNS(25 mg·kg~(-1)) groups, and the model of cerebral ischemia was established with middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO) method. AST Ⅳ and PNS were administered by gavage twice a day. the Longa method was employed to measure the neurological deficits. The brain tissue was stained with hematoxylin-eosin(HE) to reveal the pathological damage. Immunohistochemical assay was employed to measure the expression of von Willebrand factor(vWF), and immunofluorescence assay to measure the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGFA). Western blot was employed to determine the protein levels of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2(VEGFR2), VEGFA, phosphorylated phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(p-PI3K), and phosphorylated protein kinase B(p-AKT) in the brain tissue. In vitro experiment: the primary generation of rat brain microvascular endothelial cells(rBEMCs) was cultured and identified. The third-generation rBMECs were assigned into control, model, AST Ⅳ(50 µmol·L~(-1)) + PNS(30 µmol·L~(-1)), LY294002(PI3K/AKT signaling pathway inhibitor), 740Y-P(PI3K/AKT signaling pathway agonist), AST Ⅳ + PNS + LY294002, and AST Ⅳ + PNS + 740Y-P groups. Oxygen glucose deprivation/re-oxygenation(OGD/R) was employed to establish the cell model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The cell counting kit-8(CCK-8) and scratch assay were employed to examine the survival and migration of rBEMCs, respectively. Matrigel was used to evaluate the tube formation from rBEMCs. The Transwell assay was employed to examine endothelial cell permeability. Western blot was employed to determine the expression of VEGFR2, VEGFA, p-PI3K, and p-AKT in rBEMCs. The results of network pharmacology analysis showed that AST Ⅳ and PNS regulated 21 targets including VEGFA and AKT1 of angiogenesis in cerebral infarction. Most of these 21 targets were involved in the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. The in vivo experiments showed that compared with the model group, AST Ⅳ + PNS reduced the neurological deficit score(P<0.05) and the cell damage rate in the brain tissue(P<0.05), promoted the expression of vWF and VEGFA(P<0.01) and angiogenesis, and up-regulated the expression of proteins in the PI3K/AKT pathway(P<0.05, P<0.01). The in vitro experiments showed that compared with the model group, the AST Ⅳ + PNS, 740Y-P, AST Ⅳ + PNS + LY294002, and AST Ⅳ + PNS + 740Y-P improved the survival of rBEMCs after OGD/R, enhanced the migration of rBEMCs, increased the tubes formed by rBEMCs, up-regulated the expression of proteins in the PI3K/AKT pathway, and reduced endothelial cell permeability(P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the LY294002 group, the AST Ⅳ + PNS + LY294002 group showed increased survival rate, migration rate, and number of tubes, up-regulated expression of proteins in the PI3K/AKT pathway, and decreased endothelial cell permeability(P<0.05,P<0.01). Compared with the AST Ⅳ + PNS and 740Y-P groups, the AST Ⅳ + PNS + 740Y-P group presented increased survival rate, migration rate, and number of tubes and up-regulated expression of proteins in the PI3K/AKT pathway, and reduced endothelial cell permeability(P<0.01). This study indicates that AST Ⅳ and PNS can promote angiogenesis after cerebral ischemia by activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The diagnostic effectiveness of traditional imaging techniques is insufficient to assess the response of lymph nodes (LNs) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), especially for pathological complete response (pCR). A radiomics model based on computed tomography (CT) could be helpful. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Prospective consecutive breast cancer patients with positive axillary LNs initially were enrolled, who received NAC prior to surgery. Chest contrast-enhanced thin-slice CT scan was performed both before and after the NAC (recorded as the first and the second CT respectively), and on both of them, the target metastatic axillary LN was identified and demarcated layer by layer. Using pyradiomics-based software that was independently created, radiomics features were retrieved. A pairwise machine learning workflow based on Sklearn (https://scikit-learn.org/) and FeAture Explorer was created to increase diagnostic effectiveness. An effective pairwise auto encoder model was developed by the improvement of data normalization, dimensionality reduction, and features screening scheme as well as the comparison of the prediction effectiveness of the various classifiers. RESULTS: A total of 138 patients were enrolled, and 77 (58.7%) in the overall group achieved pCR of LN after NAC. Nine radiomics features were finally chosen for modeling. The AUCs of the training group, validation group, and test group were 0.944 (0.919-0.965), 0.962 (0.937-0.985), and 1.000 (1.000-1.000), respectively, and the corresponding accuracies were 0.891, 0.912, and 1.000. CONCLUSION: The pCR of axillary LNs in breast cancer following NAC can be precisely predicted using thin-sliced enhanced chest CT-based radiomics.

RESUMO

Glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) is a dominant regulator of whole-body glucose homeostasis. Accumulating evidence has shown that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play significant roles in the pathogenesis of disease. The aim of the present study was to identify the circRNA that can be used as a novel biomarker for type 2 diabetes (T2D) through regulating GLUT4. Based on previous microarray analysis comparing T2D cases and healthy controls, hsa_circ_0071336, which was predicted to be a regulator of GLUT4 by acting as a competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNA) to sponge miR-93-5p, was selected for further validation. The clinical significance of circulating hsa_circ_0071336 was investigated in a large independent cohort. The results showed that circulating hsa_circ_0071336 was significantly downregulated in blood in T2D and had a high diagnostic accuracy for discriminating T2D and impaired fasting glucose (IFG) from healthy controls. Low expression of circ_0071336 was an independent predictor of T2D, IFG and insulin resistance. A luciferase reporter assay and western-blot analysis indicated that miR-93-5p was a direct target of hsa_circ_0071336, and miR-93-5p may negatively regulate the expression of GLUT4. The expression levels of hsa_circ_007136 were negatively related to miR-93-5p expression and positively correlated with the mRNA expression of GLUT4 in adipose tissues. In conclusion, hsa_circRNA_0071336 can be considered as a potential novel and stable biomarker for T2D and its early detection. hsa_circ_0071336 regulates the GLUT4 expression by sponging miR-93-5p and maybe involved in the pathogenesis of T2D. These findings may unveil new targets for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of T2D.

RESUMO

The assembly of supertetrahedral chalcogenolate clusters (SCCs) and multifunctional organic linkers could lead to the formation of tunable structures and synergistic properties. Two SCC-based assembled materials (SCCAM-1 and -2) constructed by a triangular chromophore ligand, tris(4-pyridylphenyl)amine, were successfully synthesized and characterized. The SCCAMs demonstrate unusually long-lived afterglow at low temperatures (83 K) and efficient activities for the photocatalytic degradation of organic dye in water.

RESUMO

The study aims to observe the effects and explore the mechanisms of Buyang Huanwu Decoction and Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix combination in the treatment of the inflammatory response of mice with atherosclerosis(AS) via the Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)/myeloid differentiation primary response protein 88(MyD88)/nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB) signaling pathway. Male ApoE~(-/-) mice were randomly assigned into a model group, a Buyang Huanwu Decoction group, an Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix combination group, and an atorvastatin group, and male C57BL/6J mice of the same weeks old were used as the control group. Other groups except the control group were given high-fat diets for 12 weeks to establish the AS model, and drugs were administrated by gavage. Aortic intimal hyperplasia thickness, blood lipid level, plasma inflammatory cytokine levels, M1/M2 macrophage markers, and expression levels of proteins in TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway in the vessel wall were measured to evaluate the effects of drugs on AS lesions and inflammatory responses. The results showed that the AS model was successfully established with the ApoE~(-/-) mice fed with high-fat diets. Compared with the control group, the model group showed elevated plasma total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-c) levels(P<0.05), thickened intima(P<0.01), and increased plasma tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-6(IL-6) levels(P<0.01). Moreover, the model group showed increased expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1) and inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)(P<0.01), inhibited expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS) and cluster of differentiation 206(CD206)(P<0.01), and up-regulated mRNA and protein levels of TLR4, MyD88, NF-κB inhibitor alpha(IκBα), and NF-κB in the vessel wall(P<0.05). Compared with the model group, Buyang Huanwu Decoction and Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix combination lowered the plasma TC and LDL-c levels(P<0.01), alleviated the intimal hyperplasia(P<0.01), and reduced the plasma TNF-α and IL-6 levels(P<0.05). Moreover, the two interventions promoted the expression of eNOS and CD206(P<0.05), inhibited the expression of VCAM-1 and iNOS(P<0.01), and down-regulated the mRNA and protein levels of TLR4, MyD88, IκBα, and NF-κB(P<0.05) in the vessel wall. This study indicated that Buyang Huanwu Decoction and Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix combination could delay the progression of AS, inhibit the polarization of vascular wall macrophages toward M1 type, and attenuate vascular inflammatory response by inhibiting the activation of TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway in the vascular wall. Astragali Radix and Angelicae Sinensis Radix were the main pharmacological substances in Buyang Huanwu Decoction for alleviating the AS vascular inflammatory response.

RESUMO

This study aims to investigate the molecular mechanism of tanshinone Ⅱ_(A )(TaⅡ_A) combined with endothelial progenitor cells-derived exosomes(EPCs-exos) in protecting the aortic vascular endothelial cells(AVECs) from oxidative damage via the phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt) pathway. The AVECs induced by 1-palmitoyl-2-(5'-oxovaleroyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine(POVPC) were randomly divided into model, TaⅡ_A, EPCs-exos, and TaⅡ_A+EPCs-exos groups, and the normal cells were taken as the control group. The cell counting kit-8(CCK-8) was used to examine the cell proliferation. The lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) cytotoxicity assay kit, Matrigel assay, DCFH-DA fluorescent probe, and laser confocal microscopy were employed to examine the LDH release, tube-forming ability, cellular reactive oxygen species(ROS) level, and endothelial cell skeleton morphology, respectively. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was employed to measure the expression of interleukin(IL)-1ß, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α. Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR(qRT-PCR) and Western blot were employed to determine the mRNA and protein levels, respectively, of PI3K and Akt. Compared with the control group, the model group showed decreased cell proliferation and tube-forming ability, increased LDH release, elevated ROS level, obvious cytoskeletal disruption, increased expression of IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α, and down-regulated mRNA and protein levels of PI3K and Akt. Compared with the model group, TaⅡ_A or EPCs-exos alone increased the cell proliferation and tube-forming ability, reduced LDH release, lowered the ROS level, repaired the damaged skeleton, decreased the expression of IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α, and up-regulated the mRNA and protein levels of PI3K and Akt. TaⅡ_A+EPCs-exos outperformed TaⅡ_A or EPCs-exos alone in regulating the above indexes. The results demonstrated that TaⅡ_A and EPCs-exos exerted a protective effect on POVPC-induced AVECs by activating the PI3K/Akt pathway, and the combination of the two had stronger therapeutic effect.

RESUMO

Although great efforts have been dedicated to exploring hydrogenated two-dimensional (2D) materials, there are few reports about the role of hydrogenation-induced equivalent strain effects in tuning the physical properties. Here, based on density functional theory, we systematically reveal the non-negligible role of the hydrogenation-induced strain and its effects on the electronic and optical properties in single-layer (SL) h10-Si. We demonstrate that hydrogenation can trigger an electronic transition from an indirect- to a direct-band-gap semiconductor mainly due to the energy level rearrangement of the partial p orbitals caused by the equivalent strain. The electronic transition in SL h10-Si occurs at a critical hydrogenation concentration of about 87.5%. Furthermore, it is found that hydrogenation can continuously shift the light absorption peak of SL h10-Si in the photon-energy range of 1.64-2.44 eV by changing the pz-pz dipole transition. Our findings provide an example of tuning the electronic properties of 2D materials via hydrogenation-induced strain, which is important for understanding the physical mechanism of the hydrogenation-tuned physical properties of such materials.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Fear of recurrence is a common psychosocial sequela among patients with heart disease. Analyses of coronary heart disease, particularly in elderly patients, are relatively rare. This study aimed to investigate the current situation in this context, as well as the influencing fear factors concerning recurrence in elderly patients with coronary heart disease. METHODS: A total of 200 elderly outpatients with coronary heart disease were recruited to participate in this survey from a tertiary hospital in Baoding (China). The questionnaires included items from the Disease Progression Simplified Scale, the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, and the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were adopted to investigate the influencing factors on the fear of recurrence. RESULTS: The fear of recurrence score in elderly patients with coronary heart disease was (38.46 ± 8.13), among which 119 cases (59.5%) scored higher than 34 points. The SSRS total average score was (34.89 ± 9.83) points. Positive coping style and social support were negatively correlated with the total score of recurrence fear (r = - 0.621, - 0.413, both P < 0.001). There was a positive correlation between negative coping style and the total score of recurrence fear (r = 0.232, P < 0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the course of the disease, the number of disease recurrence cases, active coping, and social support were relevant factors in fear of recurrence (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The detection rate of fear of recurrence in elderly patients with coronary heart disease was relatively high but could be reduced by active interventions and enhancing social support.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: There is limited evidence on the association between insulin resistance (IR) and carotid plaque was reported in prospective study. We aimed to exploit the relationship between IR and carotid plaque in a prospective cohort study. METHODS AND RESULTS: The study was performed in a functional community cohort in urban Beijing. In 2015, a total of 7061 individuals without intima-media thickness (IMT) thickening and carotid artery plaque were recruited and followed up until 2019. Restricted cubic spline was conducted to exploit the dose-response relationship between carotid plaque and baseline HOMA-IR or TyG index as continuous variables. Logistic regression was used to analyze the associations between carotid plaque and HOMA-IR or TyG index. During the average 4 years follow-up, 589 subjects developed carotid plaque. Both HOMA-IR and TyG index showed significant linear dose-response relationship on carotid plaque (p < 0.001). The RRs (95%CI) for subjects with baseline HOMA-IR in quartile 2, quartile 3 and quartile 4 were 1.52 (1.14-2.04), 1.86 (1.40-2.46), and 2.55 (1.94-3.35) compared to quartile 1, respectively. Compared to the first quartile of TyG, the RRs (95%CI) for subjects in quartile 2, quartile 3 and quartile 4 were 1.43 (1.08-1.90), 1.59 (1.20-2.12), and 1.69 (1.26-2.25), respectively. In total population, the predictive ability of HOMA-IR for carotid plaque was significantly better than that of TyG index (p = 0.025). CONCLUSION: IR is an independent risk factor of carotid plaque. Both HOMA-IR and TyG has significant predictive ability for carotid plaque.

RESUMO

Air pollutants are common modifiable risk factors for arthritis. To explore the longitudinal effects of air pollution on arthritis based on a cohort study in middle-aged and elder people of China. Data was obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) from 2011 to 2018. A total of 7449 participants aged 45 years and older were involved in our study. The generalized linear mixed models were conducted to examine the separate and joint effects of household air pollution and outdoor air pollution on arthritis, respectively. We found a strong significant association between air pollution and arthritis incidence. Individuals cooking primarily with solid fuel were more likely in higher risk of arthritis compared with cleaner fuel (OR= 1.15; 95% CI: 1.08-1.23). The group-based trajectory model identified four trajectory groups, compared with group "High-Decreasing rapidly", adjusted ORs of incident arthritis for group "Middle-Decreasing moderately", "Low-Decreasing slowly" and "Low-Stably" were 1.36 (95% CI, 1.03-1.79), 1.36 (95% CI, 1.01-1.83) and 1.81 (95% CI, 1.30-2.52), respectively. These associations were generally higher in participants younger than 65 years. In addition, solid fuel use and PM2.5 exposure had additive and multiplicative effects on arthritis. The results suggested that solid fuel use and long-term PM2.5 exposure were associated with a higher incidence of arthritis. Therefore, it is necessary to restrict solid fuel use to reduce household air pollution and make stronger environmental protection policies to reduce PM2.5 concentration.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate clinical outcomes of open and retroperitoneal laparoscopic nephron-sparing surgery in the treatment of complex renal tumours. METHODS: A retrospective case study was conducted. Patients with complex renal tumours admitted to our hospital between January 2018 and September 2019 were enrolled; the included patients (n=40) were divided into the observation group (open partial nephrectomy, n=20) and control group (laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, n=20) according to operation modes. The operation time, renal warm ischaemia time, intraoperative blood loss, renal pedicle blocking time, intestinal function recovery time, postoperative hospital stay, and postoperative complications were recorded. RESULTS: Significant differences were noted regarding renal warm ischaemia time, renal pedicle blocking time, intraoperative blood loss, operation time, and postoperative hospital stay between the observation and control groups (P<0.05); however, no significant difference was observed in intestinal function recovery time and postoperative drainage days (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Open surgery remains the recommended surgical method for the treatment of few complex tumours in the renal hilus region and has gradually become the renal surgery of choice at present, although laparoscopic surgery has evolved tremendously.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Preoperative diagnosis of peritoneal metastasis with gastric cancer remains challenging. This study explored the abnormal computed tomography (CT) signs of occult peritoneal metastasis (OPM) and evaluated it by region-to-region comparison using staging laparoscopy, from which a 4-point CT score system was developed. METHODS: Patients with advanced gastric cancer (stage cT ≥ 2M0) diagnosed by CT were enrolled in the study. Occult peritoneal metastasis detected during staging laparoscopy was compared with preoperative CT to investigate the presence of abnormal signs by a region-to-region comparison. A 4-point CT score system was developed to define the radiologic characteristics. Subsequently, the diagnostic efficacy of the CT score system was prospectively verified. RESULTS: In this study, 57 OPM regions were detected by staging laparoscopy in 33 of the 385 enrolled patients. The greater omentum was the most frequent site of OPM (38.60%, 22/57), which usually exhibited a smudge-like ground-glass opacity (S-GGO) (90.91%, 20/22) with a mean CT score of 2.14. The parietal and perihepatic peritoneum was the second most common site (22.81%, 13/57). A 4-point CT score system was developed based on the results. A cutoff CT score of 2 or higher was associated with a false-negative rate of 2% (2/99). This CT score system had a sensitivity of 87.5% and a specificity of 76.4% for an OPM-positive diagnosis (area under the curve, 0.848). The agreement between two radiologists on the assigned final score was 76.2% (kappa, 0.5). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with OPM mostly exhibited S-GGO on CT, which should be interpreted cautiously. The 4-point CT score system may improve the pretreatment evaluation of occult peritoneal metastasis, and staging laparoscopy might not be necessary for patients with a score lower than 2.

RESUMO

During pregnancy, fetal thyroid hormones (THs) are dependent on maternal placental transport and their physiological level is crucial for normal fetal neurodevelopment. Earlier research has shown that Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) disrupts thyroid function and THs homeostasis in pregnant women and fetuses, and affects placental THs transport. However, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. The present study, therefore, aimed to systematically investigate the potential mechanisms of DEHP-induced disruption in the placental THs transport using two human placental trophoblastic cells, HTR-8/SVneo cells and JEG-3 cells. While the exposure of DEHP at the doses of 0-400 µM for 24 h did not affect cell viability, we found reduced consumption of T3 and T4 in the culture medium of HTR-8/Svneo cells treated with DEHP at 400 µM. DEHP treatment did not affect T3 uptake and the expression of monocarboxylate transporters 8 (MCT8) and organic anion transporters 1C1 (OATP1C1). However, DEHP significantly inhibited transthyretin (TTR) internalization, down-regulated TTR, deiodinase 2 (DIO2), and thyroid hormone receptors mRNA expression and protein levels, and up-regulated deiodinase 3 (DIO3) protein levels in a dose-dependent manner. These results indicate that DEHP acts on placental trophoblast cells, inhibits its TTR internalization, down-regulates TTR expression and affects the expression of DIO2, DIO3, and thyroid hormone receptor. These may be the mechanisms by which PAEs affects THs transport through placental.

RESUMO

The structural and electronic properties of the tin-rich compound NaSn5 were investigated under pressures of up to 10 GPa on the basis of the evolutionary algorithm (EA) technique coupled with first-principles total energy calculations. Upon compression, the known metallic tetragonal P4̅21m phase transforms into a metallic hexagonal P6/mmm phase at 1.85 GPa accompanied by an unusual change in the existing form of Sn atoms. The P6/mmm phase can be interpreted as a quasi-layered sandwich structure with two Sn layers and one sodium layer. The presence of softening phonon modes and the existence of Fermi pockets together with the obvious Fermi surface nesting indicate a strong electron-phonon coupling (EPC) and thus potential superconductivity in the P6/mmm phase. The strong EPC in the P6/mmm phase is mainly attributed to the phonons from Sn1 atoms together with electrons from the Sn1 py and Sn1 pz states. The calculated superconducting critical temperature Tc of the P6/mmm phase is 5.91 K at 1.85 GPa. This study provides a new clue for designing intercalated compounds with superconductivity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Few epidemiological studies on the correlation between phthalate exposure and elderly obesity in China are available. The purpose of the present study is to assess phthalate exposure levels and explore the connections between exposure to phthalates and obesity using a sample of Chinese community-dwelling elderly individuals. METHODS: Data were acquired from the baseline survey of the Cohort of Health of Elderly and Controllable Factors of Environment, which was established in Lu'an, Anhui province, China, from June to September in 2016. Urine samples were obtained to analyze the concentrations of seven phthalate metabolites, utilizing a high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method. General obesity was determined based on body mass index, and abdominal obesity based on waist circumference. Binary logistic regression models were utilized to analyze the associations of creatinine-corrected phthalate metabolite concentrations (categorized into quartiles) with general and abdominal obesity in elderly people. Moreover, a stratified analysis was performed to explore the difference between genders. RESULTS: Of 942 elderly individuals, 52.9% were defined as generally obese and 75.5% as abdominally obese. The detection rates of seven phthalate metabolites ranged from 90.07% to 99.80%. The highest median concentration was 44.08 µg/l (for MBP), and the lowest was 0.55 µg/l (for MEHP). The level of exposure to LMW(low-molecular-weight) PAEs is higher than that to HMW(high-molecular-weight) PAEs. After adjustment for confounding variables, we found a significant association between urinary MEOHP (mono-2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl phthalate), MEHP (mono-2-ethylhexyl phthalate), MBP (mono-n-butyl phthalate), MEP (mono-ethyl phthalate), and MMP (mono-methyl phthalate) levels and general obesity. MBP levels were also correlated with abdominal obesity. When stratified by gender, higher urinary levels of MEOHP, MBP, MEP, and MMP were associated with general obesity in males, whereas MBP and MMP levels were eminently correlated with general obesity in females. Higher urinary MBP levels were associated with increased abdominal obesity rates in males, but not in females. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, higher phthalate metabolite concentrations were correlated with obesity in the elderly. Moreover, a gender difference was observed in these associations.

RESUMO

Quantum channels with correlated effects are realistic scenarios for the study of noisy quantum communication when the channels are consecutively used. In this paper, superdense coding is reexamined under a correlated amplitude damping (CAD) channel. Two techniques named as weak measurement and environment-assisted measurement are utilized to enhance the capacity of superdense coding. The results show that both of them enable us to battle against the CAD decoherence and improve the capacity with a certain probability. Remarkably, the scheme of environment-assisted measurement always outperforms the scheme of weak measurement in both improving the capacity and successful probability. These notable superiorities could be attributed to the fact that environment-assisted measurement can extract additional information from the environment and thus it performs much better.

RESUMO

Convenient generation of stable superatomic silver clusters and their systematic site-specific tailoring and directional assembly present an enduring and significant challenge. In this work, we prepared a face-centered cubic (fcc) array of Ag14 superatoms protected by face-capping 1,2-dithiolate-o-carborane (C2B10H10S2) ligands, each produced from 1-thiol-o-carborane in crystallization with simultaneous reduction of Ag+ to Ag0. We find that the corner N-donor ligands contribute predominately to the stability and luminescence of the Ag14 superatom. As the first-formed nanocluster [Ag14(C2B10H10S2)6(CH3CN)8]·4CH3CN (NC-1) with labile vertex-coordinated CH3CN ligands is highly unstable, monodendate pyridine ligands were used to replace these CH3CN species site-specifically, giving [Ag14(C2B10H10S2)6(pyridine/p-methylpyridine)8] (NCs-2,3) in gram scale with its core structure intact, which features ultrastability up to 150 °C in air. Moreover, using bidentate N-containing ligands to bridge the superatomic Ag14 building blocks, we constructed an unprecedented hierarchical series of 1D-to-3D superatomic silver cluster-assembled materials (SCAM-1,2,3,4), and SCAM-4 is air-stable up to 220 °C. Furthermore, this series of stable solid-state superatomic-nanocluster materials exhibit tunable dual emission with wide-range thermochromism. The present study constitutes a major step toward the development of ligand-modulation of the structure, stability, assembly, and functionality of superatomic silver nanoclusters.
