PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the impact of a 904 nm photobiomodulation (PBM) on diabetic ulcers using varying dosages. METHODS: The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial that compared treatments using PBM (GaAs 904 nm 30w) with three different energy densities (4 J/cm2; 8 J/cm2; 10 J/cm2) in the healing process of non-infected diabetic foot ulcers. Eighty volunteers (48.75% female; 58.5 ± 11.1 years) were randomized into three intervention groups treated with PBM and one control group (PBM placebo). Volunteers performed up 20 interventions with PBM, either placebo or actual, in conjunction with conventional therapy, which involved dressing the wound with Helianthus annuus vegetable oil. The primary variable was the ulcer size reduction rate. RESULTS: GaAs 904 nm PBM yielded a clinically and significant ulcer size rate reduction of diabetic foot ulcers, independently of energy density range (p < 0.05). However, 10 J/cm² had 60% of completely healed ulcers and the highest proportion of patients reaching 50% of ulcer reduction rate after 5 weeks of treatment. In addition, only 10 J/cm² showed a significant difference between control group after a 10-week follow-up (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: GaAs 904 nm PBM was effective in treating diabetic foot ulcers in this study and a dosage of 10 J/cm², after a 10-week follow-up, proved to be the most effective compared to the other groups. Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. Because of its complexity and the difficulty to treat, searching for immunoregulatory responses that reduce the clinical signs of disease by non-aggressive mechanisms and without adverse effects is a scientific challenge. Herein we propose a protocol of oral tolerance induction that prevented and controlled MOG-induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in C57BL/6 mice. The genetically modified strain HSP65-producing Lactococcus lactis was orally administered for 5 consecutive days either before or during disease development in mice. Both protocols of feeding HSP65 resulted in significant reduction in the clinical score of EAE. Frequencies of LAP+CD4+Foxp3- regulatory T cells were higher in spleens and inguinal lymph nodes of fed mice. In addition, intravital microscopy showed that adherence of leukocytes to venules in the spinal cord was reduced in orally treated mice. Oral treatment with HSP65-producing L.lactis prevented leukocytes to leave the secondary lymphoid organs, therefore they could not reach the central nervous system. Despite the inhibition of pathological immune response that drive EAE development, activated T cells were at normal frequencies suggesting that oral tolerance did not induce general immunosuppression, but it led to specific control of pathogenic T cells. Our results indicate a novel therapeutic strategy to prevent and control autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

OBJECTIVES: Management of mechanically ventilated patients with bronchiolitis is not standardized and duration of mechanical ventilation has been shown to vary widely between centers. The aim of this study was to examine practice in a large number of U.K. PICUs with a view to identify if early management choices relating to fluid prescription, sedative agent use, and endotracheal tube (ETT) placement were associated with differences in duration of invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). DESIGN: Retrospective multicenter cohort study. Primary outcome was duration of IMV. A hierarchical gamma generalized linear model was used to test for associations between practice variables (sedative and neuromuscular blocking agents, route of endotracheal intubation at 24 hr and fluid balance at 48 hr) and duration of IMV after adjustment for known confounders. SETTING: Thirteen U.K. PICUs. Duration of 2 months between November and December 2019. PATIENTS: Three hundred fifty infants receiving IMV for bronchiolitis. Excluded were patients receiving long-term ventilation, extracorporeal life support, or who died before separation from IMV. INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: After adjustment for confounders, several variables were associated with an increase in the geometric mean duration of IMV (expressed as a percentage) including: nasal ETT use, 16% (95% CI, 1-32%); neuromuscular blockade use, 39% (95% CI, 21-61%); and fluid balance at 48 hr, 13% per 100 mL/kg positive fluid balance (95% CI, -1% to 28%). The association of sedative use varied with class of agent. The use of an alpha-2 agonist alone was associated with a reduction in duration of IMV by 19% in relation to no sedative agent (95% CI, -31 to -5%), whereas benzodiazepine uses alone or with alpha-2 agonist in combination were similar to using neither agent. CONCLUSIONS: Early management strategies for bronchiolitis were associated with the duration of IMV across U.K. centers after adjustment for confounders. Future work should prospectively assess the impact of fluid restriction, route of endotracheal intubation, and alpha-2 agonist use on duration of IMV in infants with bronchiolitis, with the aim of reducing seasonal bed pressure.

BACKGROUND: An increasing amount of research has led to the positioning of nucleoside diphosphate kinases (NDPK/NDK) as key metabolic enzymes among all organisms. They contribute to the maintenance the intracellular di- and tri- phosphate nucleoside homeostasis, but they also are involved in widely diverse processes such as gene regulation, apoptosis, signal transduction and many other regulatory roles. OBJETIVE: Examine in depth the NDPKs of trypanosomatid parasites responsible for devastating human diseases (e.g., Trypanosoma cruzi, Trypanosoma brucei and Leishmania spp.) which deserve special attention. METHODS: The earliest and latest advances in the topic were explored, focusing on trypanosomatid NDPK features, multifunctionality and suitability as molecular drug targets. FINDINGS: Trypanosomatid NDPKs appear to play functions different from their host counterparts. Evidences indicate that they would perform key roles in the parasite metabolism such as nucleotide homeostasis, drug resistance, DNA damage responses and gene regulation, as well as host-parasite interactions, infection, virulence and immune evasion, placing them as attractive pharmacological targets. MAIN CONCLUSIONS: NDPKs are very interesting multifunctional enzymes. In the present review, the potential of trypanosomatid NDPKs was highlighted, raising awareness of their value not only with respect to parasite biology but also as molecular targets.

The existence of crime-related racial stereotypes has been well documented. People tend to associate certain groups with specific crimes, which, in turn, impacts criminal-sentencing decisions through the perceptions of crime severity. This evidence calls for regular updating of rating norms combining these variables. With this objective, and given that most of the normative studies provide norms for a small number of crimes and/or with an insufficient number of participants, a new norming study was conducted. Furthermore, norms from European countries are absent, and the existing ones (mostly with USA-based populations) do not simultaneously examine crime stereotypicality and crime severity. The Crime Stereotypicality and Severity Database (CriSSD) presents normative ratings for a set of 63 crimes on three dimensions: White stereotypicality, Black stereotypicality, and crime severity. The crimes were selected according to a comprehensive procedure. A total of 340 Portuguese participants (72.6% female; Mage = 26.86, SD = 7.65) answered an online survey. Each crime was evaluated by a range of 46-60 participants. Data allowed us to identify a crime typology with three clusters. We present descriptive data (means, standard deviations, and 95% confidence intervals) for each crime. Crime evaluations were associated with sociodemographic characteristics. Additionally, this study gives input regarding the understudied link between crime stereotypes and crime severity, showing that crime severity is predicted by ratings of both Black and White stereotypicality. The CriSSD (available at osf.io/gkbrm ) provides a valuable resource for researchers in the field of social psychology to conduct studies with controlled materials on potential disparities in criminal-sentencing decisions.

Vaccinia virus (VACV) is a notorious virus for a number of scientific reasons; however, most of its notoriety comes from the fact that it was used as a vaccine against smallpox, being ultimately responsible for the eradication of that disease. Nonetheless, many different vaccinia virus strains have been obtained over the years; some are suitable to be used as vaccines, whereas others are virulent and unsuitable for this purpose. Interestingly, different vaccinia virus strains elicit different immune responses in vivo, and this is a direct result of the genomic differences among strains. In order to evaluate the net result of virus-encoded immune evasion strategies of vaccinia viruses, we compared antiviral immune responses in mice intranasally infected by the highly attenuated and nonreplicative MVA strain, the attenuated and replicative Lister strain, or the virulent WR strain. Overall, cell responses elicited upon WR infections are downmodulated compared to those elicited by MVA and Lister infections, especially in determined cell compartments such as macrophages/monocytes and CD4+ T cells. CD4+ T cells are not only diminished in WR-infected mice but also less activated, as evaluated by the expression of costimulatory molecules such as CD25, CD212, and CD28 and by the production of cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), gamma interferon (IFN-γ), interleukin-4 (IL-4), and IL-10. On the other hand, MVA infections are able to induce strong T-cell responses in mice, whereas Lister infections consistently induced responses that were intermediary between those induced by WR and MVA. Together, our results support a model in which the virulence of a VACV strain is proportional to its potential to downmodulate the host's immune responses.IMPORTANCE Vaccinia virus was used as vaccine against smallpox and was instrumental in the successful eradication of that disease. Although smallpox vaccination is no longer in place in the overall population, the use of vaccinia virus in the development of viral vector-based vaccines has become popular. Nonetheless, different vaccinia virus strains are known and induce different immune responses. To look into this, we compared immune responses triggered by mouse infections with the nonreplicative MVA strain, the attenuated Lister strain, or the virulent WR strain. We observed that the WR strain was capable of downmodulating mouse cell responses, whereas the highly attenuated MVA strain induced high levels of cell-mediated immunity. Infections by the intermediately attenuated Lister strain induced cell responses that were intermediary between those induced by WR and MVA. We propose that the virulence of a vaccinia virus strain is directly proportional to its ability to downmodulate specific compartments of antiviral cell responses.

During three decades, only about 20 new drugs have been developed for malaria, tuberculosis and all neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). This critical situation was reached because NTDs represent only 10% of health research investments; however, they comprise about 90% of the global disease burden. Computational simulations applied in virtual screening (VS) strategies are very efficient tools to identify pharmacologically active compounds or new indications for drugs already administered for other diseases. One of the advantages of this approach is the low time-consuming and low-budget first stage, which filters for testing experimentally a group of candidate compounds with high chances of binding to the target and present trypanocidal activity. In this work, we review the most common VS strategies that have been used for the identification of new drugs with special emphasis on those applied to trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis. Computational simulations based on the selected protein targets or their ligands are explained, including the method selection criteria, examples of successful VS campaigns applied to NTDs, a list of validated molecular targets for drug development and repositioned drugs for trypanosomatid-caused diseases. Thereby, here we present the state-of-the-art of VS and drug repurposing to conclude pointing out the future perspectives in the field.

BACKGROUND: NME23/NDPKs are well conserved proteins found in all living organisms. In addition to being nucleoside diphosphate kinases (NDPK), they are multifunctional enzymes involved in different processes such as DNA stability, gene regulation and DNA repair among others. TcNDPK1 is the canonical NDPK isoform present in Trypanosoma cruzi, which has nuclease activity and DNA-binding properties in vitro. OBJECTIVES: In the present study we explored the role of TcNDPK1 in DNA damage responses. METHODS: TcNDPK1 was expressed in mutant bacteria and yeasts and over-expressed in epimastigotes. Mutation frequencies, tolerance to genotoxic agents and activity of DNA repair enzymes were evaluated. FINDINGS: Bacteria decreased about 15-folds the spontaneous mutation rate and yeasts were more resistant to hydrogen peroxide and to UV radiation than controls. Parasites overexpressing TcNDPK1 were able to withstand genotoxic stresses caused by hydrogen peroxide, phleomycin and hidroxyurea. They also presented less genomic damage and augmented levels of poly(ADP)ribose and poly(ADP)ribose polymerase, an enzyme involved in DNA repair. MAIN CONCLUSION: These results strongly suggest a novel function for TcNDPK1; its involvement in the maintenance of parasite's genome integrity.

Trypanosoma cruzi is the etiological agent of Chagas disease, a major health problem in Latin America. Polyamines are polycationic compounds that play a critical role as regulators of cell growth and differentiation. In contrast with other protozoa, T. cruzi is auxotrophic for polyamines because of its inability to synthesize putrescine due to the lack of both, arginine and ornithine decarboxylase; therefore, the intracellular availability of polyamines depends exclusively on transport processes. In this work, the polyamine transporter TcPAT12 was overexpressed in T. cruzi epimastigotes demonstrating that growth rates at different concentrations of polyamines strongly depend on the regulation of the polyamine transport. In addition, parasites overexpressing TcPAT12 showed a highly increased resistance to hydrogen peroxide and the trypanocidal drugs nifurtimox and benznidazole, which act by oxidative stress and interfering the synthesis of polyamine derivatives, respectively. Finally, the presence of putative polyamine transporters was analyzed in T. cruzi, Trypanosoma brucei, and Leishmania major genomes identifying 3-6 genes in these trypanosomatids.

Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas disease, uses proline as its main carbon source, essential for parasite growth and stage differentiation in epimastigotes and amastigotes. Since proline is mainly obtained from extracellular medium by transport proteins, in this work we studied the regulation of the T. cruzi proline transporter TcAAAP069. Proline uptake and intracellular concentration presented oscillations during epimastigote growth phases, increasing during the early exponential phase (322 pmol/min) and decreasing to undetectable levels during the late exponential phase. Transporter expression rate correlated with proline uptake, and its subcellular localization alternated from both, the plasma membrane and close to the flagellar pocket, when the transport is higher, to only the flagellar pocket region, when the transport decreased until proline uptake and TcAAAP069 protein became undetectable at the end of the growth curve. Interestingly, when parasites were treated with conditioned medium or were concentrated to artificially increase the culture density, the proline transport was completely abolished resembling the effects observed in late exponential phase. These data highlight for the first time the existence of a density-associated regulation of relevant physiological processes such as proline metabolism.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the study was to develop a novel diet based on standard AIN93G diet that would be able to induce experimental obesity and impair immune regulation with high concentrations of both carbohydrate and lipids. METHODS: To compare the effects of this high sugar and butter (HSB) diet with other modified diets, male C57BL/6 mice were fed either mouse chow, or AIN93G diet, or high sugar (HS) diet, or high-fat (HF) diet, or high sugar and butter (HSB) diet for 11 weeks ad libitum. HSB diet induced higher weight gain. Therefore, control AIN93G and HSB groups were chosen for additional analysis. Regulatory T cells were studied by flow cytometry, and cytokine levels were measured by ELISA. RESULTS: Although HF and HSB diets were able to induce a higher weight gain compatible with obesity in treated mice, HSB-fed mice presented the higher levels of serum glucose after fasting and the lowest frequency of regulatory T cells in adipose tissue. In addition, mice that were fed HSB diet presented higher levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, hyperleptinemia, increased resistin and leptin levels as well as reduced adiponectin serum levels. Importantly, we found increased frequency of CD4(+)CD44(+) effector T cells, reduction of CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) and Th3 regulatory T cells as well as decreased levels of IL-10 and TGF-ß in adipose tissue of HSB-fed mice. CONCLUSION: Therefore, HSB represents a novel model of obesity-inducing diet that was efficient in triggering alterations compatible with metabolic syndrome as well as impairment in immune regulatory parameters.

Benznidazole is the first-line drug used in treating Chagas disease, which is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi). However, benznidazole has limited efficacy and several adverse reactions. Pentamidine is an antiprotozoal drug used in the treatment of leishmaniasis and African trypanosomiasis. In T. cruzi, pentamidine blocks the transport of putrescine, a precursor of trypanothione, which constitutes an essential molecule in the resistance of T. cruzi to benznidazole. In the present study, we describe the effect of the combination of benznidazole and pentamidine on isolated parasites, mammalian cells and in mice infected with T. cruzi. In isolated trypomastigotes, we performed a dose-matrix scheme of combinations, where pentamidine antagonized the effect of benznidazole, mainly at concentrations below the EC50 of pentamidine. In T. cruzi-infected mammalian cells, pentamidine reversed the effect of benznidazole (measured by qPCR). In comparison, in infected BALB/c mice, pentamidine failed to get synergy with benznidazole, measured on mice survival, parasitemia and amastigote nest quantification. To further explain the in vitro antagonism, we explored whether pentamidine affects intracellular trypanothione levels, however, pentamidine produced no change in trypanothione concentrations. Finally, the T. cruzi polyamine permease (TcPAT12) was overexpressed in epimastigotes, showing that pentamidine has the same trypanocidal effect, independently of transporter expression levels. These results suggest that, in spite of the high potency in the putrescine transport blockade, TcPAT12 permease is not the main target of pentamidine, and could explain the lack of synergism between pentamidine and benznidazole.

Phytomonas are protozoan parasites from the Trypanosomatidae family which infect a wide variety of plants. Herein, Phytomonas Jma was tested as a model for functional expression of heterologous proteins. Green fluorescent protein expression was evaluated in Phytomonas and compared with Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas' disease. Phytomonas was able to express GFP at levels similar to T. cruzi although the transgenic selection time was higher. It was possible to establish an efficient transfection and selection protocol for protein expression. These results demonstrate that Phytomonas can be a good model for functional expression of proteins from other trypanosomatids, presenting the advantage of being completely safe for humans.

Nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK) is a key enzyme in the control of cellular concentrations of nucleoside triphosphates, and has been shown to play important roles in many cellular processes. In this work we investigated the subcellular localization of the canonical NDPK1 from Trypanosoma cruzi (TcNDPK1), the etiological agent Chagas's Disease, and evaluated the effect of adding an additional weak protein-protein interaction domain from the green fluorescent protein (GFP). Immunofluorescence microscopy revealed that the enzyme from wild-type and TcNDPK1 overexpressing parasites has a cytosolic distribution, being the signal more intense around the nucleus. However, when TcNDPK1 was fused with dimeric GFP it relocalizes in non-membrane bounded granules also located adjacent to the nucleus. In addition, these granular structures were dependent on the quaternary structure of TcNDPK1 and GFP since mutations in residues involved in their oligomerization dramatically decrease the amount of granules. This phenomenon seems to be specific for TcNDPK1 since other cytosolic hexameric enzyme from T. cruzi, such as the NADP(+)-linked glutamate dehydrogenase, was not affected by the fusion with GFP. In addition, in parasites without GFP fusions granules could be observed in a subpopulation of epimastigotes under metacyclogenesis and metacyclic trypomastigotes. Organization into higher protein arrangements appears to be a singular feature of canonical NDPKs; however the physiological function of such structures requires further investigation.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) result in tissue damage or impairment of deeper structures that affect quality of life. The impacts are numerous, and even after a long treatment period, 65% of patients experience recurrence. Among the interventions used to accelerate the healing process of DFUs, photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is a painless, noninvasive, and low-cost treatment. To achieve effective therapeutic results optimal PBMT parameters are necessary. The positive effect of PBMT on diabetic cells may be dependent on fluence (J/cm2) and wavelength (nm). This double-blind, randomized clinical trial will be conducted at the University Clinic of Physical Therapy. One hundred patients will be randomly placed in 4 groups. A Laserpulse Ibramed (Helium-Neon, HeNe, 660 nm) with 20 W power will be used (continuous mode), with doses stipulated for each treatment group (GL1, 4 J/cm2; GL2, 8 J/cm2; GL3, 12 J/cm2) and Endophoton KLD GaAs 904 nm (ST, 10 J/cm2) for 2 nonconsecutive days per week for 10 weeks, for a total of 20 sessions. The primary outcomes will be ulcer healing rate and University of Texas classification scores. Patients' DFUs will be assessed on the 1st day, 5 weeks, and 10 weeks of treatment then 1 month after the end of treatment. This study may aid effective clinical decision-making for the management of DFUs.

Artificial intelligence (AI) models have received considerable attention in recent years for their ability to identify optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers with clinical diagnostic potential and predict disease progression. This study aims to externally validate a deep learning (DL) algorithm by comparing its segmentation of retinal layers and fluid with a gold-standard method for manually adjusting the automatic segmentation of the Heidelberg Spectralis HRA + OCT software Version 6.16.8.0. A total of sixty OCT images of healthy subjects and patients with intermediate and exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD) were included. A quantitative analysis of the retinal thickness and fluid area was performed, and the discrepancy between these methods was investigated. The results showed a moderate-to-strong correlation between the metrics extracted by both software types, in all the groups, and an overall near-perfect area overlap was observed, except for in the inner segment ellipsoid (ISE) layer. The DL system detected a significant difference in the outer retinal thickness across disease stages and accurately identified fluid in exudative cases. In more diseased eyes, there was significantly more disagreement between these methods. This DL system appears to be a reliable method for accessing important OCT biomarkers in AMD. However, further accuracy testing should be conducted to confirm its validity in real-world settings to ultimately aid ophthalmologists in OCT imaging management and guide timely treatment approaches.

Postoperative urinary retention (POUR) is a well-known complication after gynecologic surgery. Our objective was to investigate whether the choice of pharmacologic agent for reversing neuromuscular blockade at the end of a hysterectomy is a risk factor for POUR. Among adult patients undergoing hysterectomy with general anesthesia from 2012 to 2017, those who received aminosteroid nondepolarizing neuromuscular agents followed by pharmacologic reversal were identified, and electronic health records were reviewed. The cohort was dichotomized into two groups by reversal agent: 1) sugammadex and 2) neostigmine with glycopyrrolate. The primary outcome, POUR, was defined as unplanned postoperative bladder recatheterization. A propensity-adjusted analysis was performed to investigate the association between POUR and reversal agent by using inverse probability of treatment weighting to adjust for potential confounders. We identified 1,974 patients, of whom 1,586 (80.3%) received neostigmine-glycopyrrolate and 388 (19.7%) received sugammadex for reversal of neuromuscular blockade. The frequency of POUR was 24.8% (393/1,586) after reversal with neostigmine-glycopyrrolate and 18.3% (71/388) with sugammadex. Results from the propensity-adjusted analysis showed that sugammadex was associated with a lower POUR risk than neostigmine-glycopyrrolate (odds ratio 0.53, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.37 - 0.76, P < 0.001). A post hoc analysis of sugammadex recipients who received glycopyrrolate for another indication showed a higher POUR risk than among those who did not receive glycopyrrolate (odds ratio 1.86, 95% CI 1.07 - 3.22, P = 0.03). Use of sugammadex to reverse aminosteroid neuromuscular blocking agents is associated with decreased risk of POUR after hysterectomy. A potential mechanism is the omission of glycopyrrolate, which is coadministered with neostigmine to mitigate unwanted cholinergic effects.

Nowadays, there are no simple techniques for mimicking in vitro the life cycle of the kinetoplasmtid Trypanosoma cruzi Chagas, 1909, causative agent of Chagas disease, especially for parasite strains maintained as epimastigotes for many years. In the present study, we propose a method for obtaining metacyclic trypomastigotes, which were capable of infecting mammalian cells by simply lowering pH media. The collected amastigotes and trypomastigotes were differentiated into epimastigotes closing T. cruzi life cycle in vitro. Metacyclogenesis rates and infectivity were enhanced in cycled parasites. Finally, using this method, we were able to infect cells with transgenic parasites obtaining trypomastigotes and amastigotes using a neomycin-resistant cell line.

Staphylococcus aureus is among the main etiologic agents of bovine mastitis. A total of 83 isolates of S. aureus from mammary glands of primiparous heifers were collected in the prepartum, calving and during lactation. For lactating cows, a total of 27 isolates of S. aureus from mammary glands were collected during lactation. The samples were taken in two dairy farms located in Sao Paulo State, Brazil. The highest frequency of S. aureus isolation in heifers was at the end of lactation. Strains were typified through Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and grouped according to patterns of restriction enzyme SmaI. PFGE generated seven clonal profiles that were grouped into three different lineages, with the LA lineage being predominant and identified in heifers, as well as in the cows from the two regions studied. It was concluded that the cows showed a significant source of dispersion of S. aureus. At the first lactation the heifers were infected by the same clonal profiles of S. aureus which were isolated from multiparous lactating cows. The heifers were infected during milking over the months of lactation.

Purpose of Review: Pediatric sepsis remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality in children. This review will summarize the main aspects of the definition, the current evidence base for interventions discuss some controversial themes and point towards possible areas of improvement. Recent Findings: Controversy remains regarding the accurate definition, resuscitation fluid volume and type, choice of vasoactive/inotropic agents, and antibiotic depending upon specific infection risks. Many adjunctive therapies have been suggested with theoretical benefits, although definitive recommendations are not yet supported by data. We describe best practice recommendations based on international guidelines, a review of primary literature, and a discussion of ongoing clinical trials and the nuances of therapeutic choices. Summary: Early diagnosis and timely intervention with antibiotics, fluid resuscitation, and vasoactive medications are the most important interventions in sepsis. The implementation of protocols, resource-adjusted sepsis bundles, and advanced technologies will have an impact on reducing sepsis mortality.
