RESUMO

Deep defects in the long-wave infrared (LWIR) HgCdTe heterostructure photodiode were measured via deep-level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) and photoluminescence (PL). The n+-P+-π-N+ photodiode structure was grown by following the metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technique on a GaAs substrate. DLTS has revealed two defects: one electron trap with an activation energy value of 252 meV below the conduction band edge, located in the low n-type-doped transient layer at the π-N+ interface, and a second hole trap with an activation energy value of 89 meV above the valence band edge, located in the π absorber. The latter was interpreted as an isolated point defect, most probably associated with mercury vacancies (VHg). Numerical calculations applied to the experimental data showed that this VHg hole trap is the main cause of increased dark currents in the LWIR photodiode. The determined specific parameters of this trap were the capture cross-section for the holes of σp = 10-16-4 × 10-15 cm2 and the trap concentration of NT = 3-4 × 1014 cm-3. PL measurements confirmed that the trap lies approximately 83-89 meV above the valence band edge and its location.

RESUMO

This paper presents a camera-based prototype sensor for detecting fatigue and drowsiness in drivers, which are common causes of road accidents. The evaluation of the detector operation involved eight professional truck drivers, who drove the truck simulator twice-i.e., when they were rested and drowsy. The Fatigue Symptoms Scales (FSS) questionnaire was used to assess subjectively perceived levels of fatigue, whereas the percentage of eye closure time (PERCLOS), eye closure duration (ECD), and frequency of eye closure (FEC) were selected as eye closure-associated fatigue indicators, determined from the images of drivers' faces captured by the sensor. Three alternative models for subjective fatigue were used to analyse the relationship between the raw score of the FSS questionnaire, and the eye closure-associated indicators were estimated. The results revealed that, in relation to the subjective assessment of fatigue, PERCLOS is a significant predictor of the changes observed in individual subjects during the performance of tasks, while ECD reflects the individual differences in subjective fatigue occurred both between drivers and in individual drivers between the 'rested' and 'drowsy' experimental conditions well. No relationship between the FEC index and the FSS state scale was found.

RESUMO

The InAs/InAsSb type-II superlattices (T2SLs) grown on a GaSb buffer layer and GaAs substrates were theoretically investigated. Due to the stability at high operating temperatures, T2SLs could be used for detectors operating in the longwave infrared (LWIR) range for different sensors to include, e.g., CH4 and C2H6 detection, which is very relevant for health condition monitoring. The theoretical calculations were carried out by the 8 × 8 k·p method. The estimated electrons and heavy holes probability distribution in a InAs/InAsSb superlattice (SL) shows that the wave function overlap increases while the thickness of the SL period decreases. The change in the effective masses for electrons and holes versus the SL period thickness for the kz-direction of the Brillouin zone is shown. The structures with a period lower than 15 nm are more optimal for the construction of LWIR detectors based on InAs/InAsSb SLs. The experimental results of InAs/InAsSb T2SLs energy bandgap were found to be comparable with the theoretical one. The proper fitting of theoretically calculated and experimentally measured spectral response characteristics in terms of a strain-balanced and unbalanced structures is shown.

RESUMO

In this article, a new data treatment based on time-resolved photoluminescence is presented. It works as a streak camera for infrared. A time-resolved photoluminescence spectrum for the HgCd0.33Te0.67 sample at 120 K was performed and analyzed. Typical time-resolved photoluminescence measurements, to compare our results with literature, were conducted. An interpretation of the behavior for three different time constants found in the signal is proposed.

RESUMO

The existence of the Sun's hot atmosphere and the solar wind acceleration continues to be an outstanding problem in solar-astrophysics. Although magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) modes and dissipation of magnetic energy contribute to heating and the mass cycle of the solar atmosphere, yet direct evidence of such processes often generates debate. Ground-based 1-m Swedish Solar Telescope (SST)/CRISP, Hα 6562.8 Å observations reveal, for the first time, the ubiquitous presence of high frequency (~12-42 mHz) torsional motions in thin spicular-type structures in the chromosphere. We detect numerous oscillating flux tubes on 10 June 2014 between 07:17 UT to 08:08 UT in a quiet-Sun field-of-view of 60" × 60" (1" = 725 km). Stringent numerical model shows that these observations resemble torsional Alfvén waves associated with high frequency drivers which contain a huge amount of energy (~105 W m-2) in the chromosphere. Even after partial reflection from the transition region, a significant amount of energy (~103 W m-2) is transferred onto the overlying corona. We find that oscillating tubes serve as substantial sources of Alfvén wave generation that provide sufficient Poynting flux not only to heat the corona but also to originate the supersonic solar wind.
