RESUMO
The results of proper investigations received under the cytogenetic examination of 225 persons (control groups, Chernobyl liquidators exposed to different radiation doses, oncogematology patients) had been summarized and analyzed. The conclusion concerning possibilities and limitations of FISH technique usage for retrospective biodosimetry of human radiation exposure has been presented.

The article considers the possibility of the use of current infrastructure of specialized population registers of Ukraine to study leukemia and other systemic blood diseases revealed in Chernobyl accident liquidators. Advantage and limitation of such registers in the use are discussed in the article. Ukrainian state register of people who suffered from Chernobyl accident and Ukrainian national cancer registers are the largest population registers in the country, which cover all the territory of Ukraine and contain information on each individual and may serve as source base for epidemiological studies. To solve issues on leukemia and other oncological diseases is recommended to use in complex data of specialized registers of Ukraine. It should be also taken into account necessity of using late registered cases and verifying registered diagnoses.

The data on the assessment of the radiobiological situation and the results of clinical and epidemiological studies into the population health status, exposed to radiation because of the Chernobyl NPP accident are summarized. Appropriate regularities in soil contamination with 137Cs are ascertained. It has been shown that the disease incidence among the children's and adult population of the controlled areas is associated not only with improvement of the disease revealing but with the influence of the accident consequences.

The radioprotective properties of pectin-vitamin powder (PVP) were investigated. PVP was prepared from dry citrus (lemon, orange) peels by special technology. Besides unavailable carbohydrates, it contains pectin (more than 15%), vitamins B, C, P, PP, mineral components. PVP effectively protected from incorporation of radionuclides contained in food products. The blocking effect of PVP was found essentially higher than that of sodium alginate or dry pectins. The optimal daily dose was experimentally defined.

Surface phenotype and cellular cycle of nonstimulated peripheric blood mononuclear cells of 35 cleaner-worker with dose commitment 0.05-0.25 Gy and 12 control persons were studied by means of flow cytometry. Differences in cellular cycle were found, they needed further investigations. The details of the method promoting its reproducibility are described.

The paper considers the radiation doses of the thyroid gland in the inhabitants from the Ukrainian SSR areas (Kiev, Zhitomir, Chernigov, and Vinnitsa Regions), which have been obtained by instrumental studies of thyroidal radioactivity in May-June, 1986, and calculated by the most conservative single-dose administration model. A hygienic evaluation has been made of the findings, taking into account the age and residence. The cumulative irradiation doses of the thyroid have been estimated for children and adults. Possible late sequelae for the areas in question may account for 1060 and 300 thyroid carcinoma cases during the whole life for children and adults, respectively.

The paper is devoted to one of the most important aspects of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station: thyroid irradiation in the residents of 8 areas in the Ukrainian SSR and the town of Pripyat, affected with radioactive iodine. Irradiation doses, prognosis of medical effects of the accident, methods and practical measures for the organization of endocrinological monitoring of the affected population were thoroughly considered. The authors proposed a scheme of health care of the population in these areas. They also discussed the structure of data bases for analysis of medico-dosimetric information on "iodine" effects of the accident. The main trends in medico-dosimetric problems of the effects of thyroid irradiation were outlined.
