RESUMO

The rhizosphere is a niche surrounding plant roots, where soluble and volatile molecules mediate signaling between plants and the associated microbiota. The preferred lifestyle of soil microorganisms is in the form of biofilms. However, less is known about whether root volatile organic compounds (rVOCs) can influence soil biofilms beyond the 2-10 mm rhizosphere zone influenced by root exudates. We report that rVOCs shift the microbiome composition and growth dynamics of complex soil biofilms. This signaling is evolutionarily conserved from ferns to higher plants. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is a bioactive signal of rVOCs that rapidly triggers both biofilm and microbiome changes. In contrast to the planktonic community, the resulting biofilm community provides ecological benefits to the host from a distance via growth enhancement. Thus, a volatile host defense signal, MeJA, is co-opted for assembling host-beneficial biofilms in the soil microbiota and extending the sphere of host influence in the rhizosphere.

OBJECTIVE AND METHODS: To ascertain the connection between cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) and the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) via single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data, relevant data were downloaded from the GEO and TCGA databases. The differentially expressed CRGs (DE-CRGs) were filtered by the overlaps in differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between HCC patients and normal controls (NCs) in the scRNA-seq database, DE-CRGs between high- and low-CRG-activity cells, and DEGs between HCC patients and NCs in the TCGA database. RESULTS: Thirty-three DE-CRGs in HCC were identified. A prognostic model (PM) was created employing six survival-related genes (SRGs) (NDRG2, CYB5A, SOX4, MYC, TM4SF1, and IFI27) via univariate Cox regression analysis and LASSO. The predictive ability of the model was validated via a nomogram and receiver operating characteristic curves. Research has employed tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion as a means to examine the influence of PM on immunological heterogeneity. Macrophage M0 levels were significantly different between the high-risk group (HRG) and the low-risk group (LRG), and a greater macrophage level was linked to a more unfavorable prognosis. The drug sensitivity data indicated a substantial difference in the half-maximal drug-suppressive concentrations of idarubicin and rapamycin between the HRG and the LRG. The model was verified by employing public datasets and our cohort at both the protein and mRNA levels. CONCLUSION: A PM using 6 SRGs (NDRG2, CYB5A, SOX4, MYC, TM4SF1, and IFI27) was developed via bioinformatics research. This model might provide a fresh perspective for assessing and managing HCC.

The accurate manipulation of the species and locations of catalytic centers is crucial for regulating the catalytic activity of catalysts, which is essential for their efficient design and development. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with coordinated metal sites are ideal materials for investigating the origin of catalytic activity. In this study, we present a Ni2-MOF featuring novel Ni-based binuclear nodes with open metal sites (OMSs) and saturated metal sites (SMSs). The nickel was replaced by iron to obtain Ni1Fe1-MOF. In the electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction, Ni1Fe1-MOF exhibited an overpotential and Tafel slope of 370 mV@10 mA cm-2 and 87.06 mV dec-1, respectively, which were higher than those of Ni2-MOF (283 mV@10 mA cm-2 and 39.59 mV dec-1, respectively), demonstrating the superior performance of Ni1Fe1-MOF. Furthermore, theoretical calculations revealed that iron as an SMS may effectively regulate the electronic structure of the nickel catalytic center to reduce the free energy barrier ΔG*OH of the rate-determining step.

Fluorinated liquid-crystal monomers (FLCMs) are a potential emerging class of persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic compounds. Humans inevitably ingest FLCMs via food and the environment. However, there are limited studies on internal exposure biomonitoring of FLCMs. Herein, we evaluated the estimated daily intakes (EDIs) of FLCMs in the general population based on serum residue levels. For the first time, 38 FLCMs were detected in 314 serum samples from the general population in Beijing, with a median value of 132.48 ng/g of lipid weight (lw). BDPrB is a predominant FLCM in serum. The median EDI of ∑38FLCMs in the general residents was 37.96 pg/kg bw/day. The residual levels of most FLCMs were higher in urban than in suburban areas (p < 0.05). The concentrations of EFPEB, EDPrB, EDFPBB, and PDTFMTFT in serum showed positive associations with blood glucose (GLU) (r = 0.126-0.275, p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that FLCMs were significantly positively correlated with dyslipidemia, with an odds ratio of 2.19; BDPrB was significantly positively correlated with hyperglycemia (OR: 2.48). Overall, the present study suggests the occurrence of FLCMs in the nonoccupational population, and the exposure of certain FLCMs may cause abnormal blood glucose and lipid levels.

OBJECTIVE: To describe how mental health and sleep status influence the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) during the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, and to apply targeted interventions to improve the HRQOL. METHODS: A web-based online questionnaire survey was administered. Descriptive analysis was used to depict the mental health and sleep status. Correlation analysis and the structural equation model (SEM) method were used to analyze the influence of mental health and sleep status on HRQOL in PLWHA. RESULTS: After excluding 24 unqualified questionnaires, a total of 490 participants in this survey were included in the statistical analysis. Of the participants, 66.1% and 55.1% reported mild or worse symptoms of depression and anxiety, respectively. Overall, 70.0% had varying degrees of sleep problems. Correlation analysis showed that anxiety had the strongest correlation with sleep disturbances and sleep quality (R = 0.588 and 0.551, respectively), while depression had the strongest correlation with the HRQOL psychological and physical domains (R = - 0.759 and - 0.682, respectively). SEM analysis showed that depression, sleep quality, and psychological domains had the greatest item load on mental health, sleep status, and HRQOL (093, 0.82, and 0.89, respectively). Mental health had a more significant influence than sleep status on HRQOL, as indicated by factor loading (- 0.75 and - 0.15, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: There were more severe mental health and sleep problems among PLWHA during the COVID-19 pandemic, thus, mental health intervention, especially to relieve depression symptoms, may be the most important approach to improve the HRQOL among PLWHA.

Food safety is an important issue of most concern for health, while pesticides are one of the main threats to food safety. In view of the potential health hazard of pesticides in food, the cancer and non-cancer risks were assessed for 19 kinds of pesticides in Chinese food in this study. Furthermore, the health risks of different types of pesticides were compared to uncover the most polluted pesticide types in this study. Results show that methyl parathion, dichlorvos and 2,4-D residues in some food groups exceed the Chinese food standards. The cumulative disease burden of six carcinogenic pesticides for people older than 40 years ranges from 1.03 × 10-6 to 2.27 × 10-6, which exceeds the WHO recommended limit of 10-6. The non-cancer risks of 13 kinds of pesticides are all lower than 1 and will not pose appreciable health risk to the consumers. Livestock and poultry (contribution rate = 38.93%) and Milk and dairy products (contribution rate = 22.38%) are the dominate risk exposure sources for carcinogenic pesticides while staple foods (contribution rate = 31.62%) and vegetables (contribution rate = 21.5%) are the main risk exposure sources for non-carcinogenic pesticides. Comparing the risks of different pesticide types, insecticide is the most harmful category in this study, followed by herbicide and acaricide. This study characterized the health risks of pesticides in Chinese food and provided a scientific basis for pesticide management.

It is still a great challenge to achieve high selectivity of ethanol in CO2 electroreduction reactions (CO2RR) because of the similar reduction potentials and lower energy barrier of possible other C2+ products. Here, we report a MOF-based supported low-nuclearity cluster catalysts (LNCCs), synthesized by electrochemical reduction of three-dimensional (3D) microporous Cu-based MOF, that achieves a single-product Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 82.5 % at -1.0 V (versus the reversible hydrogen electrode) corresponding to the effective current density is 8.66 mA cm-2. By investigating the relationship between the species of reduction products and the types of catalytic sites, it is confirmed that the multi-site synergism of Cu LNCCs can increase the C-C coupling effect, and thus achieve high FE of CO2-to-ethanol. In addition, density functional theory (DFT) calculation and operando attenuated total reflectance surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy further confirmed the reaction path and mechanism of CO2-to-EtOH.

Considering that CO2 reduction is mostly a multielectron reaction, it is necessary for the photocatalysts to integrate multiple catalytic sites and cooperate synergistically to achieve efficient photocatalytic CO2 reduction to various products, such as C2 hydrocarbons. Herein, through crystal engineering, we designed and constructed a metal-organic framework-derived Zr/Ti bimetallic oxide solid solution support, which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. After anchoring Au nanoparticles, the composite photocatalyst exhibited excellent performances toward photocatalytic CO2 reduction to syngas (H2 and CO production rates of 271.6 and 260.6 µmol g-1 h-1) and even C2 hydrocarbons (C2H4 and C2H6 production rates of 6.80 and 4.05 µmol g-1 h-1). According to the control experiments and theoretical calculations, the strong interaction between bimetallic oxide solid solution support and Au nanoparticles was found to be beneficial for binding intermediates and reducing CO2 reduction, highlighting the synergy effect of the catalytic system with multiple active sites.

BACKGROUND: Mycoheterotrophs, acquiring organic carbon and other nutrients from mycorrhizal fungi, have evolved repeatedly with substantial plastid genome (plastome) variations. To date, the fine-scale evolution of mycoheterotrophic plastomes at the intraspecific level is not well-characterized. A few studies have revealed unexpected plastome divergence among species complex members, possibly driven by various biotic/abiotic factors. To illustrate evolutionary mechanisms underlying such divergence, we analyzed plastome features and molecular evolution of 15 plastomes of Neottia listeroides complex from different forest habitats. RESULTS: These 15 samples of Neottia listeroides complex split into three clades according to their habitats approximately 6 million years ago: Pine Clade, including ten samples from pine-broadleaf mixed forests, Fir Clade, including four samples from alpine fir forests and Fir-willow Clade with one sample. Compared with those of Pine Clade members, plastomes of Fir Clade members show smaller size and higher substitution rates. Plastome size, substitution rates, loss and retention of plastid-encoded genes are clade-specific. We propose to recognized six species in N. listeroides complex and slightly modify the path of plastome degradation. CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide insight into the evolutionary dynamics and discrepancy of closely related mycoheterotrophic orchid lineages at a high phylogenetic resolution.

As the worldwide spreading epidemic of SARS-CoV-2, quick inspection and quarantine of passengers for SARS-CoV-2 infection are essential for controlling the spread of SARS-CoV-2, especially the cross-border transmission. This study reports a SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing method based on a re-sequencing tiling array successfully used in border inspection and quarantine. The tiling array chip has four cores, with one core of 240,000 probes dedicated to the whole genome sequencing of the SAR-CoV-2 genome. The assay protocol has been improved to reduce the detection time to within one day and can detect 96 samples in parallel. The detection accuracy has been validated. This fast and simple procedure is also of low cost and high accuracy, and it is particularly suitable for the rapid tracking of viral genetic variants in custom inspection applications. Combining these properties means this method has significant application potential in the clinical investigation and quarantine of SARS-CoV-2. We used this SARS-CoV-2 genome re-sequencing tiling array to inspect and quarantine China's entry and exit ports in the Zhejiang Province. From November 2020 to January 2022, we observed the gradual shift of SARS-CoV-2 variants from the D614G type to the Delta Variant, and then to the dominance of the Omicron variant recently, consistently with the global emergency pattern of the new SARS-CoV-2 variant.

Fluorinated liquid-crystal monomers (FLCMs) widely used in liquid crystal displays are considered to be a new generation of persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic contaminants. They have been widely detected in the environment. However, little is known about their occurrence in food and human dietary exposure until now. Herein, we provided an evaluation of dietary exposure and health risks of FLCMs in the Chinese adult population based on the fifth and sixth total diet studies (TDSs). The detection frequencies of FLCMs in the two surveys were 90.5 and 99.5%, with concentrations ranging from not detected ∼72.6 µg/kg wet weight (ww) and ND ∼74.7 µg/kg ww, respectively. All TDS samples contained the multiresidue of FLCMs. The mean estimated daily intakes (EDIs) of FLCMs were 172.86 and 163.10 ng/kg bw/day in the fifth and sixth TDS, respectively. Meats, vegetables, and cereals contributed the most to the EDI of FLCMs. According to the threshold of toxicological concern (TTC) method, the EDIs of 1-fluoro-4-[2-(4-propylphenyl)ethynyl]benzene (4.56 and 3.26 ng/kg bw/day) and 2-fluoro-4-[4'-propyl-1,1'-bi(cyclohexyl)-4-yl]phenyl trifluoromethyl ether (3.12 and 3.28 ng/kg bw/day) were above their TTC value (2.5 ng/kg bw/day), suggesting their potential health risk. This is the first comprehensive national dietary exposure assessment of FLCMs.

BACKGROUND: Prior studies have suggested that the chronic inflammatory response has an important role in the pathophysiology of slow coronary flow phenomenon (SCFP). However, data are scarce regarding the role of plasma fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (PFAR) in patients having SCFP without obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). In this study, we investigated the relationship between PFAR and the presence of SCFP in patients without obstructive CAD. METHODS: From January 2021 to January 2023, we consecutively recruited 1085 patients without obstructive CAD according to the diagnostic and exclusion criteria. In total, SCFP was diagnosed in 70 patients. A 1:2 age-matched case-control study was then conducted using comparators without SCFP. Ultimately, this study enrolled 70 patients with angiographically normal coronary arteries and SCFP, along with 140 comparators with angiographically normal coronary arteries and normal coronary flow. Plasma fibrinogen and albumin levels were measured, and the PFAR was then calculated for each patient. RESULTS: PFARs were significantly greater in the SCFP group than in the comparators with normal coronary flow (82.8 ± 15.4 vs 73.1 ± 19.5, p < 0.001). PFAR increased with increasing numbers of vessels affected by SCFP. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that PFAR was an independent predictor of SCFP (odds ratio: 1.818, p = 0.015). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis indicated that PFAR showed a better predictive value of SCFP than fibrinogen or albumin, although not significantly (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: PFAR is an independent predictor of SCFP in patients without obstructive CAD. PAFR could improve the predictive value of SFCP than albumin or fibrinogen alone, but not significantly.

Residual lesions in the tumor bed have been a challenge for conventional white-light breast-conserving surgery. Meanwhile, lung micro-metastasis also requires improved detection methods. Intraoperative accurate identification and elimination of microscopic cancer can improve surgery prognosis. In this study, a smart fibronectin-targeting and metalloproteinase-activatable imaging probe CREKA-GK8-QC is developed. CREKA-GK8-QC possesses an average diameter of 21.7 ± 2.5 nm, excellent MMP-9 protein responsiveness and no obvious cytotoxicity. In vivo experiments demonstrate that NIR-I fluorescence imaging of CREKA-GK8-QC precisely detects orthotopic breast cancer and micro-metastatic lesions (nearly 1 mm) of lungs with excellent imaging contrast ratio and spatial resolution. More notably, fluorescence image-guided surgery facilitates complete resection and avoids residual lesions in the tumor bed, improving survival outcomes. We envision that our newly developed imaging probe shows superior capacity for specific and sensitive targeted imaging, as well as providing guidance for accurate surgical resection of breast cancer.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is an extremely hazardous and unavoidable pollutant for cereals and feedstuff. AFB1 can cause testicular lesion, and how to alleviate its testicular toxicity has received much attention in recent years. Lycopene (LYC), a foodborne nutrient derived from red fruits and vegetables, has protective effects against sperm abnormality and testicular lesions. To confirm the beneficial effects and mechanisms of LYC on AFB1-induced testicular lesion, 48 male mice were exposed to 0.75 mg/kg AFB1 or/and 5 mg/kg LYC for consecutive 30 days. Results demonstrated the LYC significantly restored the lesions of testicular microstructure and ultrastructure, and sperm abnormalities in AFB1-exposed mice. Furthermore, LYC effectively attenuated AFB1-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage, including ameliorative mitochondrial structural, and elevated mitochondrial biogenesis for maintaining mitochondrial function. Meanwhile, LYC resisted AFB1-induced mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis. In addition, LYC promoted nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) nuclear translocation, and upregulated the Nrf2 signaling pathway. Collectively, our findings demonstrate LYC ameliorates AFB1-induced testicular lesion by attenuating oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage, which is related to the activation of Nrf2.

Aluminum is a neurotoxic food contaminant. Aluminum trichloride (AlCl3) causes hippocampal mitochondrial damage, leading to hippocampal injury. Damaged mitochondria can release mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) and activate nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasomes and apoptosis. E3 ubiquitin ligase PARK2 (Parkin)-mediated mitophagy can attenuate mitochondrial damage. However, the role of mitophagy in AlCl3-induced mice hippocampal damage and its regulatory mechanism remain elusive. First, C57BL/6 N mice were treated with 0, 44.825, 89.65, and 179.3 mg/kg body weight AlCl3 drinking water for 90 d. Apoptosis, NLRP3-inflammasome activation and mitochondrial damage were increased in AlCl3-induced hippocampal damage. In addition, Parkin-mediated mitophagy peaked in the middle-dose group and was slightly attenuated in the high-dose group. Subsequently, we used wild-type and Parkin knockout (Parkin-/-) mice to investigate the AlCl3-induced hippocampal damage. The results showed that Parkin-/- inhibited mitophagy, and aggravated AlCl3-induced mitochondrial damage, NLRP3-inflammasome activation, apoptosis and hippocampal damage. Finally, we administered MitoQ (mtROS inhibitor) and MCC950 (NLRP3 inhibitor) to AlCl3-treated Parkin-/- mice to investigate the mechanism of Parkin-mediated mitophagy. The results showed that inhibition of mtROS and NLRP3 attenuated hippocampal NLRP3-inflammasome activation, apoptosis, and damage in AlCl3-treated Parkin-/- mice. These findings indicate that Parkin-mediated mitophagy protects against AlCl3-induced hippocampal apoptosis in mice via the mtROS-NLRP3 pathway.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns are known to affect alcohol consumption. This study examines drinking expectancies and contexts upon alcohol consumption of Argentinean students.Objectives: To assess within-person changes in alcohol consumption in Argentinean college students (aged 18-24), from August 2019 with a one-year follow-up during the COVID-19 lockdown, considering alcohol expectancies, drinking contexts, and main socio-demographic variables. To validate the stability of these predictors, we discuss the effects on the alcohol consumption across dependent and independent measures.Methods: We assessed one longitudinal (N = 300, 70% female) and one cross-sectional (N = 165, 78% female) sample via online surveys and applied multilevel analysis and regressions, respectively.Results: Alcohol consumption significantly increased during lockdown compared to one-year before (mean: 6.91 and 8.26 alcohol units, correspondingly). In the longitudinal sample, social facilitation (medium effect sizes [ES]: 0.21, 0.22) and parental presence (medium ES: 0.12, 0.21) significantly and stable (through time) predicted increasing effects on consumption. In the cross-sectional sample, stress control (high ES: 0.78) and parental presence (high ES: 0.42) were associated with higher consumption during lockdown.Conclusion: College students increased their alcohol consumption during lockdown, suggesting that restrictive sanitary measures may negatively affect consumption. Literature is not conclusive as both decreases and increases in alcohol consumption in students from developed countries were reported. Before and during COVID-19 lockdown, parental presence is a stable predictor of increased alcohol consumption, though unusual according to the literature. Health policies aimed at modifying the behavior of parents who promote/share alcohol consumption with their offspring may help reduce drinking in college students.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to further assess whether the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) is independently associated with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. METHODS: From January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2014, patients undergoing regular hemodialysis in the Blood Purification Center of the General Hospital of Northern Theatre Command were retrospectively selected. A total of 303 MHD patients were enrolled in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. For each patient, the endpoint of follow-up was either death or December 31, 2021. The primary endpoints were all-cause and cardiovascular death. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn to detect the predictive ability of PLR, and the optimal critical value of PLR was determined to be 107.57. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional analysis were used to assess the prognostic value of PLR. We used the same method to evaluate the correlation between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the prognosis of MHD patients. RESULTS: At the end of follow-up, 128 MHD patients had progressed to all-cause death, and 73 MHD patients had progressed to cardiovascular death. In multivariate Cox regression, both the high PLR group and the high NLR group were independently associated with all-cause mortality (HR 2.608, 95% CI 1.579-4.306, p < .001 vs. HR 1.634, 95% CI 1.023-2.610, p = .04). Only high PLR expression was associated with cardiovascular mortality (HR 3.379, 95% CI 1.646-6.936, p = .001). CONCLUSIONS: High PLR levels can independently predict all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in MHD patients.

This study explored whether household and outdoor air pollution is associated with a greater risk for metabolic syndrome (MetS) among women. In all 11,860 women who cooked with clean energy were included in the analysis. Cooking frequency, range hood use during cooking, passive smoking exposure, and solid fuel use for heating were used to represent household air pollution. The 2-year average concentration of PM2.5, and face mask usage were used to reflect outdoor air pollution exposure. An index of air pollution exposure was also constructed. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the association between air pollution and risk for MetS, and a positive correlation was found. Our results indicated that household cooking used clean energy and exposure to a high level of outdoor PM2.5 without face mask usage may contribute to an increased risk for MetS among women.

BACKGROUND: The Argentinean quarantine is among the strictest and longest quarantines in the world. To determine if a worsening pattern on mental health would emerge with a prolonged quarantine duration, a longitudinal analysis pertaining to the lengthy mandatory Argentinean quarantine was conducted. AIM: To examine depression and anxiety changes in college students, as a function of quarantine duration, demographic and health-related factors, during successive time cuts of the lengthy mandatory quarantine in Argentina. METHODS: We used a longitudinal design, N = 1492 college students. For the first measurement, successive samplings were carried out across quarantine sub-periods of up to 106-days duration. The follow-up was one month later. RESULTS: Particularly women, young, and having a history of mental disorder and suicidal behavior, were more depressed and anxious under mandatory restrictive quarantine conditions. Repeated measures of both depression and anxiety scores remained constantly high during the more restrictive quarantine sub-periods of up to 13 and 53-days duration, and decreased during the less restrictive quarantine sub-period of up to 106-days duration, but with small effect sizes (0.10-0.08). CONCLUSIONS: Restrictive quarantine has negative effects on mental health outcomes. Partial spontaneous remissions of depression and anxiety symptoms may be expected with further quarantine relaxations.

Rapid adaptation to novel environments may drive changes in genomic regions through natural selection. However, the genetic architecture underlying these adaptive changes is still poorly understood. Using population genomic approaches, we investigated the genomic architecture that underlies rapid parallel adaptation of Coilia nasus to fresh water by comparing four freshwater-resident populations with their ancestral anadromous population. Linkage disequilibrium network analysis and population genetic analyses revealed two putative large chromosome inversions on LG6 and LG22, which were enriched for outlier loci and exhibited parallel association with freshwater adaptation. Drastic frequency shifts and elevated genetic differentiation were observed for the two chromosome inversions among populations, suggesting that both inversions would undergo divergent selection between anadromous and resident ecotypes. Enrichment analysis of genes within chromosome inversions showed significant enrichment of genes involved in metabolic process, immunoregulation, growth, maturation, osmoregulation, and so forth, which probably underlay differences in morphology, physiology and behavior between the anadromous and freshwater-resident forms. The availability of beneficial standing genetic variation, large optimum shift between marine and freshwater habitats, and high efficiency of selection with large population size could lead to the observed rapid parallel adaptive genomic change. We propose that chromosomal inversions might have played an important role during the evolution of rapid parallel ecological divergence in the face of environmental heterogeneity in C. nasus. Our study provides insights into the genomic basis of rapid adaptation of complex traits in novel habitats and highlights the importance of structural genomic variants in analyses of ecological adaptation.
