Children who experience sexual abuse often face severe challenges in seeking help and disclosing their traumatic experiences. Objectives - to investigate critical aspects of information transfer, help-seeking behavior and the long-term psychological impact of child sexual abuse. This was a pilot study done on 114 victims of child sexual abuse. The study participants filled a semi-structured proforma through social media using Google forms. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study carried out using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 28. This pilot study on 114 child sexual abuse victims reveals critical insights. Only 15.8% confided in parents, while 37.7% turned to friends. Shockingly, 46.5% kept their ordeal hidden. Disturbingly, only 8.8% sought professional help. The impact on adult life was profound, with 70.2% reporting personal effects. Regrettably, 24.6% resorted to self-harm. Insights on reasons were stark: 63.1% felt defenseless, 23.7% lacked awareness, and 5.3% blamed lax legislation. Encouragingly, 86% actively raised awareness. The study provides a compelling view of child sexual abuse survivors, and emphasizes the need for improved communication within families, accessible support services, and educational initiatives.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease type 1A (CMT1A), the most common inherited peripheral neuropathy, is characterized by progressive sensory loss and weakness, which results in impaired mobility. Increased understanding of the genetics and pathophysiology of CMT1A has led to development of potential therapeutic agents, necessitating clinical trial readiness. Wearable sensors may provide useful outcome measures for future trials. METHODS: Individuals with CMT1A and unaffected controls were recruited for this 12-month study. Participants wore sensors for in-clinic assessments and at-home, from which activity, gait, and balance metrics were derived. Mann-Whitney U tests were used to analyze group differences for activity, gait, and balance parameters. Test-retest reliability of gait and balance parameters and correlations of these parameters with clinical outcome assessments (COAs) were examined. RESULTS: Thirty individuals, 15 CMT1A, and 15 controls, participated. Gait and balance metrics demonstrated moderate to excellent reliability. CMT1A participants had longer step durations (p < .001), shorter step lengths (p = .03), slower gait speeds (p < .001), and greater postural sway (p < .001) than healthy controls. Moderate correlations were found between CMT-Functional Outcome Measure and step length (r = -0.59; p = .02), and gait speed (r = 0.64; p = .01); 11 out of 15 CMT1A participants demonstrated significant increases in stride duration between the first and last quarter of the 6-min walk test, suggesting fatigue. INTERPRETATION: In this initial study, gait and balance metrics derived from wearable sensors were reliable and associated with COAs in individuals with CMT1A. Larger longitudinal studies are needed to confirm our findings and evaluate sensitivity and utility of these disease-specific algorithms for clinical trial use.

Freshwater habitats hold a unique role in the survival of all living organisms and supply water for drinking, irrigation, and life support activities. In recent decades, due to anthropogenic activities, deterioration in the water quality has been a long-lasting problem and challenge to the scientific fraternity. Although, these freshwater bodies have a bearable intrinsic capacity for pollution load however alarming increase in pollution limits the intrinsic capacities and requires additional technological interventions. The release of secondary pollutants from conventional interventions further needs revisiting the existing methodologies and asking for green interventions. Green interventions such as phycoremediation are natural, eco-friendly, economic, and energy-efficient alternatives and provide additional benefits such as nutrient recovery, biofuel production, and valuable secondary metabolites from polluted freshwater bodies. This systemic review in a nut-shell comprises the recent research insights on phycoremediation, technological implications, and influencing factors, and further discusses the associated mechanisms of metal ions biosorption by living and non-living algae, its advantages, and limitations. Besides, the article explores the possibility of future research prospects for applicability at a field scale that will help in the efficient utilization of resources, and improved ecological and health risks.

BACKGROUND: The excess amount of glutamate in neurons is associated with the excitotoxicity and neurodegenerative diseases. Glutamate induces neurotoxicity primarily by immense influx of Ca2+ arising from overstimulation of the NMDA subtype of glutamate receptors. The neuronal death induced by the overstimulation of glutamate receptors depends critically on a sustained increase in mitochondrial Ca2+ influx and impairment in mitochondrial functions. The mitochondrial impairment is an important contributor to the glutamate-induced neuronal toxicity and thus provides an important target for the intervention. The present study investigates the effects of high glutamate concentrations on mitochondrial functions. RESULTS: Here, we have shown that the higher concentration of glutamate treatment caused a significant elevation in the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors expression and elevated the intra-mitochondrial calcium accumulation in SHSY5Y neuronal cells. As a result of an accumulation of intra-mitochondrial calcium, there is a concentration-dependent elevation in ROS in the mitochondria. Tyrosine nitration of several mitochondrial proteins was increased while the mitochondrial membrane potential was dissipated. Furthermore, glutamate treatments also resulted in mitochondrial membrane permeability transition. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that treatment of high glutamate concentration causes impairment of mitochondrial functions by an increase in intra-mitochondrial calcium, ROS production, dissipation of mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening in human neuroblastoma SHSY5Y cells.

BACKGROUND: Identification of residual disease in patients with localized non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following treatment with curative intent holds promise to identify patients at risk of relapse. New methods can detect circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) in plasma to fractional concentrations as low as a few parts per million, and clinical evidence is required to inform their use. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We analyzed 363 serial plasma samples from 88 patients with early-stage NSCLC (48.9%/28.4%/22.7% at stage I/II/III), predominantly adenocarcinomas (62.5%), treated with curative intent by surgery (n = 61), surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy/radiotherapy (n = 8), or chemoradiotherapy (n = 19). Tumour exome sequencing identified somatic mutations and plasma was analyzed using patient-specific RaDaR™ assays with up to 48 amplicons targeting tumour-specific variants unique to each patient. RESULTS: ctDNA was detected before treatment in 24%, 77% and 87% of patients with stage I, II and III disease, respectively, and in 26% of all longitudinal samples. The median tumour fraction detected was 0.042%, with 63% of samples <0.1% and 36% of samples <0.01%. ctDNA detection had clinical specificity >98.5% and preceded clinical detection of recurrence of the primary tumour by a median of 212.5 days. ctDNA was detected after treatment in 18/28 (64.3%) of patients who had clinical recurrence of their primary tumour. Detection within the landmark timepoint 2 weeks to 4 months after treatment end occurred in 17% of patients, and was associated with shorter recurrence-free survival [hazard ratio (HR): 14.8, P <0.00001] and overall survival (HR: 5.48, P <0.0003). ctDNA was detected 1-3 days after surgery in 25% of patients yet was not associated with disease recurrence. Detection before treatment was associated with shorter overall survival and recurrence-free survival (HR: 2.97 and 3.14, P values 0.01 and 0.003, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: ctDNA detection after initial treatment of patients with early-stage NSCLC using sensitive patient-specific assays has potential to identify patients who may benefit from further therapeutic intervention.

RESUMO

We report on the design and performance of a time-resolved Coherent Raman spectroscopy system with time resolution of better than 120 fs. The coherent transients can be traced with more than 75 dB dynamic range while accessing and probing Raman active modes across a 250-2400 cm-1 frequency. The system delivers an equivalent spectral resolution of better than 0.1 cm-1 regarding line bandwidth parameters for probed Raman resonances.

Classical Swine Fever (CSF) is an extremely infectious and deadly disease of pigs and wild boars caused by the CSF virus (CSFV) which is a member of the Pestivirus genus and the family Flaviviridae. This study was designed to detect the permissibility and replication of CSFV in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) monolayer derived from Porcine Wharton's jelly. Porcine Wharton's jelly MSCs (pWJ-MSCs) were ex vivo expanded and propagated for more than 81 generations and third passage pWJ-MSCs were characterized as per standard criteria i.e., growth characteristics, trilineage differentiation potential and molecular characterization for pluripotency and stem cell surface markers. Porcine WJ tissue samples found negative for CSFV by RT-PCR test were processed further for the isolation of pWJ-MSCs and CSFV was propagated over the characterized pWJ-MSCs monolayer. No cytopathic effect was observed, which was consistent with non-cytopathic nature of CSFV. The replication of CSFV in pWJ-MSCs was affirmed by RT-PCR and demonstration of viral antigen in the cytoplasm of virus infected cells by immuno-staining technique. In total, three different CSFV isolates were propagated in pWJ-MSCs. Primary pWJ-MSCs permitted CSFV replication to good titer. To the best of our information, this is the first ever report of isolation of CSFV in pWJ-MSCs.

The global warming driven climate change has increased the susceptibility of livestock around the globe to heat stress (HS), which reduces animal productivity and threatens the sustainability of marginal farmers. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate thermo-adaptability between Tharparkar calves (TC), an indigenous milch breed of India and crossbred calves (CC) during induced heat stress in controlled environment. For this purpose, 12 apparently healthy male calves (six in each group) aged 5-6 months, were selected. The experiment was conducted at physiologically comfortable temperature (25 °C), moderate HS (31 °C) and severe HS (37 °C) for 21 days each in a psychrometric chamber. In each experimental day, the calves were exposed to 6 h of heat. There were 7 days of acclimatization period before experiment and 10 days of recovery period at ambient temperature between each 21 day exposure period. During experimental period, the blood was collected at 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 21st day and among ten-day recovery period the blood was collected at 5th day. Physiological responses, serum electrolytes, metabolic enzymes profiles, antioxidant capacity, oxidative stress status and general endocrine milieu were studied. Relative mRNA expression study of Heat Shock Protein (HSP) 70, HSP90, induced Nitric Oxide Synthase (iNOS) and endothelial NOS (eNOS) were carried out by qPCR. There was significant (p < 0.05) change in the displacement in rectal temperature, respiration rate, serum alanine aminotransferase level between two breeds at moderate and severe HS. Similar change was observed in total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase, and endocrinological parameters. The comparatively lower mRNA expression of HSP70 and higher expression of HSP90 in TC than CC point the better thermo-adaptability of the same. The results of the experiment indicated that TC are more thermo-adaptable than CC at different modality of stress in controlled temperature conditions.

Ricebean (Vigna umbellata) is an underutilized bean of South and South-East Asia, was exploited to formulate the ready-to-eat curry by using thermal processing technology. Eleven types of RTE ricebean curries (RBCs) namely RBC1, RBC2, RBC3, RBC4, RBC5, RBC6, RBC7, RBC8, RBC9, RBC10, RBC11 were developed by varying the proportion of tomato paste, onion paste, and coriander powder after thermal processing at 121 °C (15 psi) for 20 min. Out of these, the best quality curry was selected based on the total product ranking score (TPRS) which was calculated from the curry quality parameters such as consistency, pH, loss due to sorption onto the inner surface of the retort pouch (LOSS), and sensory (overall acceptability-OAA). Among the curries, RBC2 secured the highest value of TPRS, named it as RTE-RBC and was used to study the physico-chemical, textural, nutritional, microbial, sensory parameters and storage stability. The DPPH-antioxidant activity of RTE-RBC was 2.47 µM BHA/g which was due to the presence of bioactive phytochemicals such as polyphenol, flavonoids, lycopene, gingerol, É£-Oryzanol, and capsaicin. It was observed that the in-vitro protein/carbohydrate digestibility, in-vitro calcium bioavailability and real-time shelf-life (predicted) of RTE-RBC were 85%, 54%, and one year, respectively.

INTRODUCTION: Various in vitro and in vivo animal studies have shown that adenosine triphosphate (ATP) has a stimulatory role and nitric oxide (NO) has an inhibitory role in modulating bladder contractility. However, it is not known what happens to the urinary levels of ATP and NO in humans with underactive bladder (UAB). METHODS: In this prospective case-control study, we compared ATP and NO levels in twenty six male patients of UAB with a bladder contractility index (BCI) of < 100 and 18 healthy male volunteers without any lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). RESULTS: The mean urinary ATP levels were significantly lower in cases compared to controls (546.1 ± 37.3 pg/µl vs. 610.7 ± 24.9 pg/µl, p value < 0.001) and the mean NO levels were significantly higher in cases compared to controls (1233.4 ± 91.2 pg/µl vs. 1126.3 ± 91.3.4 pg/µl, p value < 0.001). The mean NO/ATP ratio in cases was significantly higher than that of controls (2.26 ± 0.2 vs. 1.84 ± 0.18, p value < 0.000). Using receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis, we noted the area under the curve (AUC) for NO/ATP ratio to be 0.91 in the diagnosis of cases. A cut-off value of 2.06 for NO/ATP ratio had sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy of 88.5%, 88.9% and 88.6%, respectively, in diagnosing patients with UAB. CONCLUSION: Patients with UAB have significantly higher levels of urinary NO and decreased levels of urinary ATP. Urinary NO/ATP levels can be considered as a noninvasive alternate test for diagnosing bladder underactivity.

The caprine mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from fetal adnexa are highly proliferative. These cells possess tri-lineage differentiation potential and express MSC surface antigens and pluripotency markers with a wound-healing potential. This present study was conducted to compare the immunomodulatory potential of caprine MSCs derived from the fetal adnexa. Mid-gestation caprine uteri (2-3 months) were collected from the abattoir to isolate MSCs from amniotic fluid (cAF), amniotic sac (cAS), Wharton's jelly (cWJ) and cord blood (cCB), which were expanded and characterized at the 3rd passage. These MSCs were then stimulated with inflammatory cytokines (IFN-γ and TNF-α) to assess the percentage of inhibition produced on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) proliferation. The percentage of inhibition on activated PBMCs proliferation produced by cWJ MSCs and cAS MSCs was significantly higher than cCB and cAF MSCs. The relative mRNA expression profile and immunofluorescent localization of different immunomodulatory cytokines and growth factors were conducted upon stimulation. The mRNA expression profile of a set of different cytokines and growth factors in each caprine fetal adnexa MSCs were modulated. Indoleamine 2, 3 dioxygenase appeared to be the major immunomodulator in cWJ, cAF, and cCB MSCs whereas inducible nitric oxide synthase in cAS MSCs. This study suggests that caprine MSCs derived from fetal adnexa display variable immunomodulatory potential, which appears to be modulated by different molecules among sources.

AIM: The objectives of the present study were to explore the benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) and dimethyl phthalate (DMP) degradation potential of Bacillus marisflavi RR014 isolated from the tap water of public toilet and also to optimize the phthalates degradation process using response surface methodology. METHODS AND RESULTS: The minimal salt medium was used for the biodegradation analysis of phthalates. The quantification of phthalates and their intermediate metabolites identification were done by using UHPLC and LC-MS/MS respectively. The results revealed that B. marisflavi RR014 is capable of degrading both the phthalates under varying pH, temperature and salinity conditions. The formation of phthalic acid from the breakdown of BBP and DMP (500 mg l-1 ) in the medium was observed after 24 h. After 72 h, 61% of BBP and 98·9% of DMP in the medium was degraded as monitored by UHPLC. The identification of intermediate metabolites by LC-MS/MS revealed that hydrolysis of BBP and DMP produces phthalic acid. CONCLUSIONS: The degradation rate of both the phthalates was increased as the parameters increased up to an optimum level. The three environmental factors (pH, temperature and salt concentration) strongly affect the rate of degradation of both the phthalates. The maximum degradation rate for both the phthalates was achieved at pH 7, temperature 35°C and salt concentration of 1% as observed from the central composite experimental design. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: It is the first report on the phthalates biodegradation potential of B. marisflavi RR014 isolated from the tap water of public toilet. The bacterium is capable of degrading BBP and DMP under varying pH, temperature and salinity, therefore, ideal to treat the phthalate contaminated environments.

The COVID-19 outbreak, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), was first identified in China, and it has quickly become a global threat to public health due to its rapid rate of transmission and fatalities. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) has been identified as a receptor that mediates the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into human cells, as in the case of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV). Several studies have reported that ACE2 expression is higher in Leydig, Sertoli and seminiferous ductal cells of males, as well as in ovarian follicle cells of females, suggesting possible potential pathogenicity of the coronavirus in the reproductive system. Higher ACE2 expression in the human placenta and reports of vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2 among clinical cases have increased the relevance of further studies in this area. This review focuses on the interaction between SARS-CoV-2 and the ACE2 receptor and speculates on the mechanistic interplay in association with male and female reproductive physiology. In addition, based on the available literature, we discuss the alleged sex differences in terms of the infectivity of SARS-CoV-2, which is claimed greater among males, and further explore the physiological role of ACE2 and 17ß-oestradiol for the same.

PURPOSE: To analyse baseline characteristics of patients with intraoperative rupture (IOR) or non-IOR who underwent microsurgical clipping for ruptured intracranial aneurysms. Additionally, to asses functional outcome in terms of Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) at 6 and 12 months. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 471 patients who underwent microsurgical clipping for ruptured intracranial aneurysms from 2007 to 2018 in Nepal Mediciti Hospital, Nepal. Patients who underwent surgery for unruptured aneurysm were excluded from the study. The association of the base line characteristic in IOR and non-IOR were analysed. Variables analysed were the Hunt and Hess Scale (HHS) dichotomized as (1-3) and (4-5), Modified Fisher Scale dichotomized as (0-2) and (3-4), type of rupture, use of brain retractor, timing of IOR during surgery, aneurysmal factors (size of the neck, location, lobulation) and time of surgery. Outcome, GOS dichotomized into favourable (4-5) and unfavourable (1-3), assessed at 6 months and 12 months. RESULTS: Out of 471 patients treated for ruptured intracranial aneurysm, IOR occurred in 57 (12.10%) with mean age 49.47 (SD ±12.9), occurred more in smoker than non-smoker (45.6% vs. 18.6%; p=.000) and regular alcohol consumers (36.8% vs. 17.9%; p=.004). Favourable outcome with GOS (4-5) at 6 months was observed among patients with lower HHS (1-3), p=.025 and lower MFS (0-2), p=.04. However, outcome at 12 months was better associated with MFS (p=.013) and aneurysm size (p=.038), with more favourable outcome associated with aneurysm less than 10 mm. CONCLUSIONS: Alcohol consumption and smoking are associated risk factors that may contribute to IOR. HHS and MFS are strong predictors of outcome for IOR patients at 6 months. However, at 12 months, MFS is more predictive of outcome. Aneurysms greater than 10 mm had a strong association with outcome at 12 months than 6 months.

Instant foods are a great convenience in today's fast moving world, aiding to reduce the time spent on the cooking process, along with the added advantage of long shelf life and ease to carry. Ingredient composition was finalized by optimizing the design variables (instantised foxtail millet, instantised green gram dal and oat flakes) using Central Composite Rotatable Design besides suitable fat and spices for the development of instant foxtail millet khichdi. Over all acceptability and water holding capacity were considered as the responses for the experimental design. The developed quick cooking (jiffy) product possessed calorific value of 525.11 kcal/100 g with good rehydration/ reconstitution properties within 4 min. Shelf stability of the khichdi packed in polypropylene (75µ) and metallised polyester (90µ) pouches was evaluated in terms of chemical, microbiological and sensorial changes. The product was found to be shelf stable for 6 months of storage in metallised polyester.

The objective of the present study was to develop a rapid, simple, specific and sensitive Taqman-based real-time PCR assay for porcine sapelovirus (PSV) detection. Specific primers and probe were designed from the five untranslated regions (UTRs) of the viral genome. The detection limit of the real-time PCR was 102 copies. The specificity of the Taqman real-time PCR assay was evaluated using other animal viruses and nuclease free water as a negative control. Strong fluorescent signals were obtained only in the detection of PSV real-time PCR and conventional RT-PCR were preformed simultaneously on 90 faecal samples. Based on conventional RT-PCR study 17.7% (16/90) of the faecal samples were positive for PSV. Whereas 21 of 90 samples (23.3%) were positive by real-time RT-PCR. The results showed that real-time PCR was more sensitive than the conventional RT-PCR assay. In conclusion, the Taqman real-time PCR assay for detection of PSV developed, herein, is sensitive, specific, and reliable. This assay will be useful for clinical diagnosis, epidemiological, and pathogenesis studies.

BACKGROUND: Venous resection with pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) increases resectability rates in patients with adenocarcinoma of head of pancreas. The effect of extent of portal vein resection on perioperative morbidity and mortality is less clear. This retrospective cohort study compares results of PD with and without venous resection and explores the influence of extent of vein resection on perioperative morbidity and mortality. METHODS: Total 96 patients underwent standard PD (PD) and 20 patients had en bloc venous resections (VR). VR group was divided into segmental (VR-S) (6/20 patients) and tangential (VR-T) (14/20 patients) groups based on segmental or tangential type of venous resections. The groups were compared for morbidity, mortality and survival. RESULTS: PD and VR groups had comparable perioperative morbidity (p = 0.140) and mortality (p = 0.358) with a significantly higher operative time in VR (p < 0.001). Perioperative morbidity and mortality were similar in VR-S and VR-T groups (p = 0.690 and p = 0.157 respectively). Operative time and estimated blood loss were significantly higher in VR-S group over VR-T (p = 0.019 and p = 0.002 respectively). Median survival was similar for PD and VR (15 and 15.5 moths respectively; p = 0.278) and VR-S and VR-T groups (17 and 12.5 months respectively; p = 0.550). Expected blood loss and operative time were found to be independent predictors of morbidity. CONCLUSIONS: Venous resection with PD is associated with morbidity, mortality and overall survival comparable to that after standard resection. The extent of venous resection does not seem to affect perioperative morbidity and mortality.

Camel pox (CMLP), a contagious viral disease of camels, causes considerable economic loss in terms of milk, meat, wool, and leather production besides reduction of draught power. The effect of spontaneous CMLP infection on hemogram, oxidative/nitrosative imbalance, and trace mineral homeostasis has not been studied earlier in dromedary camels. In the current study, hemogram, serum biochemistry, oxidant/antioxidant imbalance, and zinc (Zn)-copper (Cu) homeostasis were evaluated in healthy and pox-infected camels. The CMLP was confirmed from pooled samples of vesicular fluid, oral mucosa, and skin samples by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting the C18L gene of CMLP virus. Hemogram was performed manually in whole blood. The serum was analyzed for biochemistry. The oxidative/nitrosative imbalance was measured by determining the concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA), nitrite and nitrate (NOx), and glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity in serum. Simultaneously, copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) concentrations were measured in serum. A pronounced leucopenia (p = 0.019), lymphopenia (p = 0.005), and hypoproteinemia (p = 0.014) were noted in CMLP-infected camels compared to healthy animals. The significant elevation of the MDA (p = 0.005) and NOx (p = 0.044) concentrations in serum of CMLP-infected indicated marked oxidative stress during the disease. The zinc concentration (p = 0.014) in CMLP-infected camels was significantly lower than healthy camels. The study supports that oxidative/nitrosative imbalance and Cu-Zn homeostasis are compromised and related to the pathophysiology of CMLP infection. The finding will be helpful to veterinary clinicians to adopt effective therapeutic strategies using antioxidants and trace minerals during CMLP outbreak. The timely vaccination and bio-security will be the mainstay for prevention of the diseases.

Study was conducted to determine the influence of different cooking methods namely pressure, flaking, infra-red, microwave and extrusion processing on rate of oxidative stability, fatty acid profile and functional properties of horse gram. The rate of auto-oxidation was significantly (p < 0.05) affected during storage and found maximum at 0.00 aw and minimum at 0.33 aw for both varieties namely GPM-6 and PAIYUR-2. The extrusion processed grains were more susceptible to auto-oxidation. The iron content of grain increased significantly (p < 0.05) during extrusion (1.22 ± 0.50 to 1.65 ± 0.15 mg 100 g-1 for PAIYUR-2 and 1.19 ± 0.45 to 1.59 ± 0.12 mg 100 g-1 for GPM-6). Whereas, tocopherol content decreased during extrusion (8.05 ± 0.15 to 2.28 ± 0.23 mg 100 g-1 for PAIYUR-2 and 6.48 ± 0.46 to 1.68 ± 0.15 mg 100 g-1 for GPM-6). Ellagic (12.36 ± 0.35 and 10.71 ± 0.29 mg 100 g-1), vanillic (15.20 ± 0.23 and 12.48 ± 0.18 mg 100 g-1), and coumaric acid (14.68 ± 0.71 and 8.97 ± 0.66 mg 100 g-1) were the major phenolic acids whereas, linoleic (35.53 ± 0.30 and 35.46 ± 0.19%), palmitic (26.08 ± 0.26 and 25.97 ± 0.33%), and linolenic acid (13.44 ± 0.18 and 10.13 ± 0.21%) were the major fatty acids present in raw grain for PAIYUR-2 and GPM-6 respectively. Phenolic and fatty acids were significantly (p < 0.05) affected during processing. The oxidative stability of microwave processed grains was maximum whereas, extrusion processed grains showed minimum oxidative stability during storage. Study explicitly describes that native grains and the grains which did not undergo destruction of naturally present cellular structure, were less prone to oxidation. The oxidation rate of grains was found dependent on composition, processing and storage environment of grains. Hence, all these factors need to be considered to ensure the stability of processed food during storage.

This study was conducted to characterize canine bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs); in vivo tracking in mice, and therapeutic evaluation in canine clinical paraplegia cases. Canine BMSCs were isolated, cultured, and characterized in vitro as per International Society for Cellular Therapy criteria, and successfully differentiated to chondrogenic, osteogenic, and adipogenic lineages. To demonstrate the homing property, the pGL4.51 vector that contained luciferase reporter gene was used to transfect BMSCs. Successfully transfected cells were injected around the skin wound in mice and in vivo imaging was done at 6, 12 and 24 hr post MSCs delivery. In vivo imaging revealed that transfected BMSCs migrated and concentrated predominantly toward the center of the wound. BMSCs were further evaluated for allogenic therapeutic potential in 44 clinical cases of spinal cord injuries (SCI) and compared with conventional therapy (control). Therapeutic potential as evaluated by different body reflexes and recovery score depicted significantly better results in stem cell-treated group compared to control group. In conclusion, allogenic canine BMSCs can serve as potent therapeutic candidate in cell-based therapies, especially for diseases like SCI, where the conventional medication is not so promising.
