RESUMO

The recovery of precious metals, such as palladium (Pd), from wastewater, is an economically important field. The present study reports the application of polyglycidyl methacrylate (PGMA) macroporous spheres with diethylaminoethyl (DEAE) functional groups (PGMA-DEAE) for the adsorption of palladium ions [Pd(II)] from simulated wastewater solutions. The effects of pH, adsorption duration, and initial concentration of Pd(II) on the adsorption amount were evaluated systematically. The results revealed that within the experimental pH range, the adsorption efficiency of Pd(II) increased with increasing pH. In particular, between pH 4 and 6, the Pd(II) adsorption efficiencies were approximately 100%. At 298 K and pH ∼ 4, the adsorption capacity of PGMA-DEAE for Pd(II) was 1.22 mmol/g. The adsorption rates of PGMA-DEAE for Pd(II) were high, and the adsorption equilibrium was reached within 10 min. Ca(II), Mg(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Fe(II) were selected as representative competitive adsorption metal ions. PGMA-DEAE had good separation selectivity for Pd(II) at pH 1-6 (all RPd/Me > 30), especially at pH ∼ 4 (all RPd/Me > 100). The SEM, TEM, EDS, TG, XRD, and XPS results indicated that in a high-acidity environment (CHCl ≥ 1 mol/L), Pd(II) was adsorbed on PGMA-DEAE through electrostatic attraction, while in a low-acidity environment (pH 1-6), Pd(II) was adsorbed on PGMA-DEAE through coordinated bonding between the Pd(II) ions and the N. PGMA-DEAE exhibited excellent stability and regeneration performance for five regeneration cycles.

RESUMO

Pyrene-based derivatives have been widely deployed in organic luminescent materials because of their bright fluorescence, high charge carrier mobility, and facile modification. Nevertheless, the fluorescence output of conventional pyrenes is prone to quenching upon aggregation due to extensive intermolecular π-π stacking interactions. To address this issue, a set of new Y-shaped pyrene-containing luminogens are synthesized from a new bromopyrene chemical precursor, 2-hydroxyl-7-tert-butyl-1,3-bromopyrene, where the bromo and hydroxyl groups at the pyrene core can be readily modified to obtain the target products and provide great flexibility in tuning the photophysical performances. When the hydroxy group at the 2-position of pyrene was replaced by a benzyl group, the steric hindrance of the benzyl group not only efficiently inhibits the detrimental intermolecular π-π stacking interactions but also rigidifies the molecular conformation, resulting in a narrow-band blue emission. Moreover, the TPE-containing compounds 2c and 3c possessed characteristic aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties with fluorescence quantum yields of up to 66% and 38% in the solid state, respectively. Thus, this article has methodically investigated the factors influencing the optical behavior, such as intermolecular interactions, and the steric effects of the substituent group, thereby opening up the potential to develop narrow-band pyrene-based blue emitters for OLED device applications.

RESUMO

Bacterial endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory response and ferroptosis play an important role in urinary tract infections. Tolterodine has been used as a urinary tract antispasmodic and anticholinergic agent. However, the effects of Tolterodine against LPS-induced insults in human bladder epithelial cells (hBECs) have not been reported before. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide and lactate dehydrogenase release assays to determine the cell viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde level detection were used to determine the level of oxidative stress, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blot analysis were used to detect the protein level. In the current study, we found that Tolterodine ameliorated LPS-induced production of ROS and lipid oxidation in hBECs. Interestingly, Tolterodine inhibited the production of interleukin 6, interleukin-1ß, and tumor necrosis factor α. Also, Tolterodine reduced the levels of Fe2+ and suppressed ferroptosis by reducing the levels of glutathione peroxidase 4, prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2, and acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 in LPS-challenged bladder epithelial cells. Mechanistically, it was shown that Tolterodine restored the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/nuclear factor-κB signaling. Importantly, inhibition of Nrf2 with its specific inhibitor ML385 abolished the protective effects of Tolterodine in the inflammatory response and ferroptosis, suggesting that the effects of Tolterodine are mediated by Nrf2. Based on these findings, we conclude that Tolterodine might serve as a promising agent for the treatment of LPS-induced bladder inflammation.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate whether the mixed approach is a safe and advantageous way to operate laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. METHODS: A retrospective study was performed on 316 patients who underwent laparoscopic right hemicolectomy in our center. They were assigned to the middle approach group (n = 158) and the mixed approach group (n = 158) according to the surgical approaches. The baseline data like gender、age and body mass index as well as the intraoperative and postoperative conditions including operation time, blood loss, postoperative hospital stay and complications were analyzed. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in age, sex, BMI, ASA grade and tumor characteristics between the two groups. Compared with the middle approach group, the mixed approach group was significantly lower in terms of operation time (217.61 min vs 154.31 min, p < 0.001), intraoperative blood loss (73.8 ml vs 37.97 ml, p < 0.001) and postoperative drainage volume. There was no significant difference in the postoperative complications like postoperative anastomotic leakage, postoperative infection and postoperative intestinal obstruction. CONCLUSIONS: Compared with the middle approach, the mixed approach is a safe and advantageous way that can significantly shorten the operation time, reduce intraoperative bleeding and postoperative drainage volume, and does not prolong the length of hospital stay or increase the morbidity postoperative complications.

RESUMO

When a radar detects marine targets, the radar echo is influenced by the shape, size and dielectric properties of the targets, as well as the sea surface under different sea conditions and the coupling scattering between them. This paper presents a composite backscattering model of the sea surface and conductive and dielectric ships under different sea conditions. The ship scattering is calculated using the equivalent edge electromagnetic current (EEC) theory. The scattering of the sea surface with wedge-like breaking waves is calculated using the capillary wave phase perturbation method combined with the multi-path scattering method. The coupling scattering between ship and sea surface is obtained using the modified four-path model. The results reveal that the backscattering RCS of the dielectric target is significantly reduced compared with the conducting target. Furthermore, the composite backscattering of the sea surface and ship increases significantly in both HH and VV polarizations when considering the effect of breaking waves under high sea conditions at low grazing angles in the upwind direction, especially for HH polarization. This research offers valuable insights into optimizing radar detection of marine targets in varying sea conditions.

RESUMO

Currently, the research or publications related to the clinical comprehensive evaluation of Chinese patent medicine are increasing, which attracts the broad attention of all circles. According to the completed clinical evaluation report on Chinese patent medicine, there are still practical problems and technical difficulties such as unclear responsibility of the evaluation organization, unclear evaluation subject, miscellaneous evaluation objects, and incomplete and nonstandard evaluation process. In terms of evaluation standards and specifications, there are different types of specifications or guidelines with different emphases issued by different academic groups or relevant institutions. The professional guideline is required to guide the standardized and efficient clinical comprehensive evaluation of Chinese patent medicine and further improve the authority and quality of evaluation. In combination with the characteristics of Chinese patent medicine and the latest research achievement at home and abroad, the detailed specifications were formulated from six aspects including design, theme selection, content and index, outcome, application and appraisal, and quality control. The guideline was developed based on the guideline development requirements of China Assoication of Chinese medicine. After several rounds of expert consensus and public consultation, the current version of the guideline has been developed.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Anastomotic leakage (AL) is a common postoperative complication of rectal cancer, and transanal drainage tube (TDT) efficacy is still contentious. This study aimed to evaluate the TDT effect on AL prevention. METHODS: All relevant papers were searched by using a predefined search strategy (two randomized controlled trials (RCTs), one prospective study, and four retrospective studies). Meta-analysis was conducted to estimate AL and re-operation pooled rates. RESULTS: A total of 7 studies (1556 patients) were included: No significant statistic difference was found between two groups on AL rate (odds ratio (OR) 0.61, P = 0.11) and re-operation rate (OR 0.52, P = 0.10). For subgroup analysis, significant statistic difference was found between two groups on AL rate (OR 0.29, P = 0.002) and re-operation rate (OR 0.15, P = 0.04) in patients without neoadjuvant therapy. As for patients without diverting stoma, the AL rate (OR 0.35, P = 0.002) was significantly lower than that in patients without TDT. CONCLUSIONS: TDT may reduce AL morbidity and re-operation rate for patients without high risk of AL, but may be useless for those in high-risk situations.

RESUMO

An imbalance of osteoclasts and osteoblasts can result in a variety of bone-related diseases, including osteoporosis. Thus, decreasing the activity of osteoclastic bone resorption is the main therapeutic method for treating osteoporosis. 2E-Decene-4, 6-diyn-1-ol-acetate (DDA) is a natural bioactive compound with anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. However, its effects on osteoclastogenesis are unknown. Murine bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMMs) or RAW264.7 cells were treated with DDA, followed by evaluation of cell viability, RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation, and pit formation assay. Effects of DDA on RANKL-induced phosphorylation of MAPKs were assayed by western blot analysis. Expression of osteoclast-specific genes was examined with reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) and western blot analysis. In this study, DDA significantly inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation in RAW264.7 cells as well as in BMMs without cytotoxicity. DDA also strongly blocked the resorbing capacity of BMM on calcium phosphate-coated plates. DDA inhibited RANKL-induced phosphorylation of ERK, JNK and p38 MAPKs, as well as expression of c-Fos and NFATc1, which are essential transcription factors for osteoclastogenesis. In addition, DDA decreased expression levels of osteoclastogenesis-specific genes, including matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), and receptor activator of NF-κB (RANK) in RANKL-induced RAW264.7 cells. Collectively, these findings indicated that DDA attenuates RANKL-induced osteoclast formation by suppressing the MAPKs-c-Fos-NFATc1 signalling pathway and osteoclast-specific genes. These results indicate that DDA may be a potential candidate for bone diseases associated with abnormal osteoclast formation and function.

RESUMO

Drug instructions, the statutory and technical documents recording effectiveness and safety information, are an important basis for guiding doctors, pharmacists, and patients to use drugs rationally, and their scientificity, standardization, and accuracy directly affect the medication safety of the public. The sections of adverse drug events, contraindications, precautions, warnings, and application for specific populations in drug instructions directly express safety information and measures for rational use of drugs. In the drug life cycle, marketing authorization holders( MAHs) need to update safety information in the instructions promptly to ensure the safety and effectiveness of clinical drug medication. At present, revising instructions is an important measure to control drug risks. In the drug life cycle,in order to standardize the revision of safety information in the instructions by MAHs and eliminate inexact terms such as " unclear",the Technical Specifications for Revision of Safety Information in Marketed Chinese Patent Medicine Instructions,a series of group standards, have been established under the guidance of Standardization Department,China Association of Chinese Medicine. Therefore,on the basis of the existing rules and regulations, the standardized technical procedures for revising instructions came into being to help clinical safe and rational medication of drugs, and implement the strategy of " Healthy China".

RESUMO

Technical Specifications for Revision of Safety Information in Marketed Chinese Patent Medicine Instructions,a series of group standards, were proposed by Professor ZHANG Bing from Research Center for Pharmacovigilance and Rational Use of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and underwent centralized management by Chinese Association of Chinese Medicine. They were officially released on July 23 and implemented on July 31,2021. The series of group standards consist of six sections, including general principles, adverse drug events, contraindications, precautions, application for special populations, and warnings. The section of general principles is comprised of holistic and programmatic expressions, which explain the general technical requirements for revising the marketed Chinese patent medicine instructions. The other five sections focus on information collection, screening, transformation, and illustration of specific items, forming a standardized revision technical process. This series of standards is the result of multiple rounds of research and the suggestions of more than 200 experts in different professional fields of " medicine-pharmacy-management-law-enterprise" have been gathered therein to reach a consensus. With the purposes of establishing standardized technical specifications for the revision of safety information in the marketed Chinese patent medicine instructions, guiding marketing authorization holders in revising the instructions, filling the gaps in the research of Chinese patent medicine instructions, promoting the deve-lopment of pharmaceutical care and academic research, and encouraging the rational and safe medication of Chinese patent medicine, the series of group standards is of great significance.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) infection is the leading cause of septicemia, meningitis, and pneumonia in neonates. Aberrant gut colonization in early life may predispose children to various diseases in adulthood. However, the associations between gut microbial changes and GBS colonization is still unclear. RESULTS: The composition and diversity of meconium microbiota in GBS group were similar to that of healthy controls. However, we identified several specific taxa that were differentially abundant between the two groups (linear discriminant analysis (LDA) effect size (LEfSe): p < 0.05, LDA > 2.0). Particularly, the relative abundance of Lactobacillus paracasei was significantly reduced, indicating a role in GBS colonization. CONCLUSIONS: Our study presented a series of bacterial species colonized by GBS, thus providing novel evidence in support of initial intestinal microbiota dysbiosis in the neonates with mother's GBS colonization.

RESUMO

A general visible-light-promoted metal-free synthesis of secondary and tertiary thiocarbamates starting from thiosulfonates and N-substituted formamides is developed. By employing rhodamine B as a photocatalyst and tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as an oxidant, a wide scope of thiocarbamates can be obtained through direct thiolation of acyl C-H bonds under irradiation of blue light at room temperature for 12 h.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: For patients with locally advanced proximal gastric cancer (LAPGC), the individualized selection of patients with highly suspected splenic hilar (No. 10) lymph node (LN) metastasis to undergo splenic hilar lymphadenectomy, is a clinical dilemma. This study aimed to re-evaluate the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic spleen-preserving splenic hilar lymphadenectomy (LSPSHL) and to identify the population who would benefit from it. METHODS: A total of 1068 patients (D2 group = 409; D2 + No. 10 group = 659) who underwent laparoscopic total gastrectomy from four prospective trials between January 2015 and July 2019 were analyzed. RESULTS: No significant difference in the incidence (16.9% vs. 16.4%; P = 0.837) of postoperative complications were found between the two groups. The metastasis rate of No. 10 LN among patients in the D2 + No. 10 group was 10.3% (68/659). Based on the decision tree, patients with LAPGC with tumor invading the greater curvature (Gre), patients with non-Gre-invading LAPGC with a tumor size > 5 cm and clinical positive locoregional LNs were defined as the high-priority No. 10 dissection group. The metastasis rate of No. 10 LNs in the high-priority group was 19.4% (41/211). In high-priority group, the 3-year overall survival of the D2 + No. 10 group was better than that of the D2 group (74.4% vs. 42.1%; P = 0.005), and the therapeutic index of No. 10 was higher than the indices of most suprapancreatic stations. CONCLUSIONS: LSPSHL for LAPGC is safe and feasible when performed by experienced surgeons. LSPSHL could be recommended for the high-priority group patients even without invasion of the Gre.

RESUMO

As a new class of functional luminescent materials, polymers with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) feature attract much attention because of their advantages of efficient solid-state fluorescence, excellent processability, structural diversity, and multifunctionalities. Among all polymerization methods toward AIE polymers, multicomponent polymerizations (MCPs) exhibit the merits of simple operation, good atom economy, high polymerization efficiency, broad functional-group tolerance, etc. In this feature article, the recent progress on the development of one-step MCPs for the synthesis of AIE polymers is highlighted. The representative functionalities of the resulting AIE polymers are illustrated. Perspectives on the challenges and future development directions of this field are also discussed.

RESUMO

Rhubarb, a famous traditional Chinese medicine, shows a wide range of physiological activities and pharmacological benefits. Rhubarb anthraquinones are perceived as the pharmacologically active compounds of Rhubarb, and understanding metabolism of them is crucial to assure safety and effectiveness of clinical application. In this study, the pharmacokinetics, tissue distribution and excretion of five rhubarb anthraquinones (aloe-emodin, rhein, emodin, chrysophanol, physcion) were systematically investigated after oral administration of rhubarb extract to rats.An HPLC method was developed and validated for quantitation of five rhubarb anthraquinones in rat plasma, tissues, urine and faeces to investigate the Pharmacokinetic characteristics. The results showed that the proposed method was suitable for the quantification of five anthraquinones in plasma, tissue and excreta samples with satisfactory linear (r > 0.99), precision (<10%) and recovery (85.12-104.20%). The plasma concentration profiles showed a quick absorption with the mean Tmax of 0.42-0.75 h and t1/2 of 6.60-15.11 h for five anthraquinones. The analytes were widely distributed in most of the tissues. Approximately 0.13-10.59% and 28.47-81.14% of five anthraquinones were recovered in urine and faeces within 132 h post-dosing, which indicated the major elimination route was faeces excretion. In summary, this study lays a foundation for elucidating the pharmacokinetic rule of rhubarb anthraquinone and the important data can provide reliable scientific resource for further research.

RESUMO

Stachys sieboldii MiQ (SSM) is an important food and medicinal herb in Korea, used to improve memory of patients with senile dementia and cardiovascular diseases. However, little information on bioactive components from SSM or standardized extraction methods for these components is available. This study isolated and purified major components from SSM for the first time, and assessed their ability to inhibit soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH). The results showed that acteoside is the most potent inhibitor of sEH, with an IC50 of 33.5 ± 0.5 µM. Additional active components, including harpagide, tryptophan, and 8-acetate-harpagide, along with acteoside, were tentatively identified using high-performance liquid chromatography photodiode array tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-PDA-MS/MS) and quantified using an ultraviolet detector at 210 nm. Further, an ultrasonic-assisted extraction technique for extraction of four bioactive compounds in SSM was developed and optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal extraction conditions were: extraction time, 30.46 minutes; extraction temperature, 67.95 °C, and methanol concentration 53.85%. The prediction model of RSM was validated with laboratory experiments. The similarity between predicted and actual values was 97.84%. The extraction method is thus a rapid, environment-friendly, energy-saving method can be applied to extract bioactive components from SSM in large quantities.

RESUMO

Four pairs of stereoisomeric indole alkaloids, (±)-baphicacanthcusines A-D (1-4), and one new indole alkaloid, baphicacanthcusine E (5), together with nine known compounds were identified from the leaves of Baphicacanthus cusia. (±)-1 and -2 possess an unprecedented skeleton in which two indole moieties are bridged by a phenylpropane unit. (±)-3 represents the first natural dispiro-oxazolidinone bisoxindoles. The absolute configurations in 1-5 were assigned based on quantum chemical calculations, including the calculated chemical shift with DP4plus analysis, the calculated optical rotation values, and the calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra. A plausible biosynthetic pathway for 1-5 was proposed. Compounds (±)-1, (-)-2, and 11 exhibited cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cells with IC50 values of 20.0-78.5 µM.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous retrospective studies have shown that laparoscopic spleen-preserving D2 total gastrectomy (LSTG) for advanced upper third gastric cancer (AUTGC) is safe. However, all previous studies were underpowered. We therefore conducted a prospective, multicenter study to evaluate the technical safety and feasibility of LSTG for patients with AUTGC. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with AUTGC (cT2-4a, N-/+, M0) underwent LSTG at 19 institutions between September 2016 and October 2017 were included. The number of No. 10 lymph node (LN) dissections, metastasis rates, intraoperative and postoperative complications were investigated. RESULTS: A total of 251 patients were enrolled in the study, and 242 patients were eligible for the per protocol analysis. The average numbers of No. 10 LN dissections and metastases were 2.4 and 0.1, respectively. Eighteen patients (7.4%) had No. 10 LN metastases, and among patients with advanced gastric cancer, the rate of No. 10 LN metastasis was 8.1% (18/223). pN3 status was an independent risk factor for No. 10 LN metastasis. Intraoperative complications occurred in 7 patients, but no patients required conversion to open surgery or splenectomy. The overall postoperative complication rate was 13.6% (33/242). The major complication and mortality rates were 3.3% (8/242) and 0.4% (1/242), respectively. The number of retrieved No. 10 LNs, No. 10 LN metastasis and TNM stage had no significant influence on postoperative complication rates.
