RESUMO

Transition metal diborides represented by MoB2 have attracted widespread attention for their excellent acidic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Nevertheless, their electrocatalytic performance is generally unsatisfactory in high-pH electrolytes. Heterogeneous interface engineering is one of the most promising methods for optimizing the composition and structure of electrocatalysts, thereby greatly affecting their electrochemical performance. Herein, a heterostructure, composed of MoB2 and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), is rationally constructed by boronizing precursors including (NH4 )4 [NiH6 Mo6 O24 ]·5H2 O (NiMo6 ) and Co complexes on the carbon cloth (Co,Ni-MoB2 @CNT/CC). In this method, NiMo6 is boronized to form MoB2 by a modified molten-salt-assisted borothermal reduction. Meanwhile, Co catalyzes extra carbon sources to grow CNTs on the surface of MoB2 . Thanks to the successful production of the heterostructure, Co,Ni-MoB2 @CNT/CC exhibits remarkable HER performance with a low overpotential of 98.6, 113.0, and 73.9 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in acidic, neutral, and alkaline electrolytes, respectively. Notably, even at 500 mA cm-2 , the electrochemical activity of Co,Ni-MoB2 @CNT/CC exceeds that of Pt/C/CC in an alkaline solution and maintains over 50 h. Theoretical calculations reveal that the construction of the heterostructure is beneficial to both water dissociation and reactive intermediate adsorption, resulting in superior alkaline HER performance.

RESUMO

Porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs) are highly promising functional porous solids known for their feasible amenability and extraordinary stability. When the framework was modified by ionic functional groups, these ionic PAFs (iPAFs) exhibited charged channels for adsorption, separation, and catalysis. However, the surface areas of ionic porous frameworks are usually lower than that of neutral frameworks, and their synthesis is limited by specific strategies and complex modification processes. To address these challenges, an intuitive route to construct ionic porous framework with high specific surface area was proposed. Herein, a multivariate ionic porous aromatic framework (MTV-iPAFs, named PAF-270) was synthesized using readily available building units with ionic functional groups through a multivariable synthesis strategy. PAF-270 exhibited hierarchical structure with the highest specific surface area among reported imidazolium-functionalized PAFs. Utilizing its physical and chemical properties, the availability for polyoxometalate loading and heterogeneous catalysis of PAF-270 were explored. PAF-270 exhibited a high adsorption capacity up to 50 % for both H3O40PW12 (HPW) and (NH4)5H6PV8Mo4O40 (V8). HPW@PAF-270 and V8@PAF-270 exhibited excellent catalytic abilities for oleic acid esterification and extractive oxidative desulfurization, respectively. Due to the stability of PAFs, these materials also showed remarkable resistance to temperature and pH changes. Overall, these results underscore the potential application of MTV-iPAFs as versatile functional porous materials.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Live dietary microbes have been hypothesized to promoting human health. However, there has been lacking perceptions to crystallize nexus between consumption of foods with live microbes and mortality. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association of consumption of foods with medium to high amounts of live microbes with all-cause, cancer-specific, and cardiovascular disease (CVD)-specific mortality. METHODS: The data were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999-2018 at baseline linked to the 2019 National Death Index records. Based on consumption of foods that were categorized as either having medium or high microbial content (MedHi foods), participants were classified into three groups. Kaplan-Meier survival curves and multivariable Cox regression models were used to estimate the association of consumption of MedHi foods with mortality. Population-attributable fractions (PAFs) of consumption of MedHi foods in relation to mortality risk were also estimated. RESULTS: A total of 35,299 adults aged ≥ 20 years were included in this study. During a median follow-up of 9.67 years, compared with adults in G1, those in G3 had 16% (hazard ratio [HR], 0.84; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.77-0.90) reduced risk of all-cause mortality, and 23% (HR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.67-0.89) reduced risk of CVD-specific mortality. The PAF of high (G3) vs. intermediate or low consumption of MedHi foods (G1 + G2) with all-cause and CVD-specific mortality was 3.4% and 4.3%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Consumption of foods with higher microbial concentrations is associated with a reduced risk of all-cause and CVD-specific mortality in US adults.

RESUMO

Objective: To report the efficacy and safety of combination therapy with selinexor, palbociclib, pembrolizumab, and umbilical cord blood NK cells for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Advanced HCC has a poor prognosis and limited effective treatment options. Exploring personalized combination treatment strategies is critically important for improving outcomes in patients with advanced HCC. This study aims to provide preliminary evaluation of the clinical effectiveness and safety of this combination regimen in this high-risk population, and lay the groundwork for larger studies to bring more treatment choices to patients with advanced HCC. Methods: A 67-year-old male patient with advanced HCC and multiple metastases was treated with palbociclib 75mg on days 1-14 of a 28-day cycle, pembrolizumab 200mg intravenous infusion, selinexor 40mg weekly, and umbilical cord blood NK cell (12×109 cells) infusion on days 1, 14, 28 and 42. Imaging examinations and tumor marker detection were performed before and after two cycles of treatment to evaluate response. Results: After two cycles of combination treatment, follow-up PET-CT showed partial response with the liver tumors reduced in size by approximately 60%, lung metastases reduced by approximately 90%, and FDG uptake decreased more than 90% in lymph nodes and bone metastases. The AFP level decreased compared to baseline. Liver function tests including albumin, bilirubin and prothrombin time improved. The patient's performance status also improved from ECOG 2 to ECOG 1. Conclusions: This case report describes preliminary signals that the combination of selinexor, palbociclib, pembrolizumab, and umbilical cord blood NK cells may warrant further investigation for the treatment of advanced HCC. Objective response was observed based on standardized response criteria. However, due to the limitations of a single-arm case study design, definitive conclusions cannot be drawn regarding the efficacy or safety profile of this personalized combination approach. Larger and more robust clinical trials are needed to fully validate if this treatment strategy can achieve clinical benefit for advanced HCC. Future studies should aim to elucidate potential biomarkers that may help identify patients most likely to respond to this combination regimen. Exploring optimal patient selection criteria could also help maximize clinical benefit. Further research is warranted to continue exploring precision medicine combinations involving immunotherapy, targeted agents and cellular therapies for advanced HCC.

RESUMO

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising electrocatalysts for clean energy conversion systems. However, developing MOF-based electrodes with high performance toward oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is still challenging. In this work, a series of MOF film electrodes derived from Ni-btz were prepared by employing the secondary growth strategy under solvothermal conditions. Fe and Co ions were also incorporated into the Ni-btz framework to produce a trimetallic coupling effect to obtain enhanced OER activity. The as-prepared FeCoNi-btz/NF exhibited not only good stability but also excellent OER performance under alkaline conditions. Furthermore, the possible intermediates including metal oxides and metal oxyhydroxides were confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

RESUMO

Photocatalytic water splitting into H2 is the most economic and environmentally friendly strategy for H2 production, and rationally constructing a heterojunction retains enormous influence on a photocatalytic system. Herein, 2D/2D covalent organic framework/graphitic carbon nitride (COF/CN) van der Waals heterojunctions were readily prepared via an ultrasonic method for high-efficiency visible-light photocatalytic H2 production. The photocatalytic H2 production performance of optimized COF/CN composites can reach up to 449.64 µmol·h-1, which is approximately 5 times that of pure CN (89.08 µmol·h-1). The characterization and experimental studies reveal that the synergistic effect between COF and CN contributes to promoting the interfacial migration and spatial separation of photoinduced e--h+ pairs, further boosting the photocatalytic hydrogen production activity. This work may open a new window to design and fabricate effective heterojunction photocatalysts for photocatalytic energy conversion.

RESUMO

Periodontitis is the major cause of tooth loss in adults and is mainly characterized by alveolar bone destruction. Elucidating the mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)/progenitor populations of alveolar bone formation will provide valuable insights into regenerative approaches to clinical practice, such as endogenous regeneration and stem-cell-based tissue engineering therapies. Classically, MSCs residing in the bone marrow, periosteum, periodontal ligament (PDL), and even the gingiva are considered to be osteogenic progenitors. Furthermore, the contributions of MSCs expressing specific markers, including Gli1, Axin2, PTHrP, LepR, and α-SMA, to alveolar bone formation have been studied using cell lineage tracing and gene knockout models. In this review, we describe the MSCs/progenitors of alveolar bone and the biological properties of different subpopulations of MSCs involved in alveolar bone development, remodeling, injury repair, and regeneration.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: With the restriction of organophosphorus and other insecticides, pyrethroids are currently the second most-used group of insecticides worldwide due to their advantages such as effectiveness and low toxicity for mammalian. Animal studies and clinical case reports have documented associations between adverse health outcomesand exposure to pyrethroids. At present, the association between chronic pyrethroid exposure and osteoarthritis (OA) remains elusive. METHODS: Cross-sectional data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999-2002 and 2007-2014 were used to explore the associations of pyrethroid exposure and OA. Urinary level of 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA) in urine samples was used to evaluate the exposure of pyrethroid, and OA was determined on the basis of self-reported physician diagnoses. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to investigate the association between pyrethroid exposure and OA. RESULTS: Among the 6528 participants, 650 had OA. The weighted geometric mean of urinary volume-based 3-PBA concentration were 0.45 µg/L. With adjustments for major confounders, compared to participants in the lowest quartile of urinary volume-based 3-PBA, those in the highest quartilehad higher odds of OA (odds ratio, 1.39; 95% confidence interval: 1.01, 1.92). There was no nonlinear relationship between urinary volume-based 3-PBA and OA (P for non-linearity = 0.89). CONCLUSION: High urinary 3-PBA concentration was associated with increased OA odds in the US adults. Pyrethroid exposure in the population should be monitored regularly.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hundreds of millions of doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines have been administered globally, but progress on vaccination varies considerably between countries. We aimed to provide an overall picture of COVID-19 vaccination campaigns, including policy, coverage, and demand of COVID-19 vaccines. METHODS: We conducted a descriptive study of vaccination policy and doses administered data obtained from multiple public sources as of 8 February 2022. We used these data to develop coverage indicators and explore associations of vaccine coverage with socioeconomic and healthcare-related factors. We estimated vaccine demand as numbers of doses required to complete vaccination of countries' target populations according to their national immunization program policies. RESULTS: Messenger RNA and adenovirus vectored vaccines were the most commonly used COVID-19 vaccines in high-income countries, while adenovirus vectored vaccines were the most widely used vaccines worldwide (180 countries). One hundred ninety-two countries have authorized vaccines for the general public, with 40.1% (77/192) targeting individuals over 12 years and 32.3% (62/192) targeting those ≥ 5 years. Forty-eight and 151 countries have started additional-dose and booster-dose vaccination programs, respectively. Globally, there have been 162.1 doses administered per 100 individuals in target populations, with marked inter-region and inter-country heterogeneity. Completed vaccination series coverage ranged from 0.1% to more than 95.0% of country target populations, and numbers of doses administered per 100 individuals in target populations ranged from 0.2 to 308.6. Doses administered per 100 individuals in whole populations correlated with healthcare access and quality index (R2 = 0.59), socio-demographic index (R2 = 0.52), and gross domestic product per capita (R2 = 0.61). At least 6.4 billion doses will be required to complete interim vaccination programs-3.3 billion for primary immunization and 3.1 billion for additional/booster programs. Globally, 0.53 and 0.74 doses per individual in target populations are needed for primary immunization and additional/booster dose programs, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: There is wide country-level disparity and inequity in COVID-19 vaccines rollout, suggesting large gaps in immunity, especially in low-income countries.

RESUMO

Marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) is an uncommon subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Combination of rituximab and cladribine (R-2CdA) is a potential option for indolent NHL (iNHL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) patients. The goal of this multicenter retrospective study was to assess the efficacy and safety of R-2CdA in MZL to support consensus-reaching in first-line therapy in advanced-stage patients. We searched electronic medical records databases of eight centers in China. Between November 2014 and December 2019, 183 symptomatic advanced MZL patients (42 treated with R-2CdA and 141 with rituximab plus cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine, and prednisone [R-CHOP]) were identified. After propensity score matching (PSM) (1:1) to adjust for clinical characteristics, 39 patients from each treatment arm were selected. The overall response rate (ORR) (84.6% vs. 94.9%, P = 0.263) and complete response rate (59.0% vs. 66.7%, P = 0.487) were comparable between two protocols. Neither progression-free survival (PFS), including the 5-year PFS (67.7% vs. 56.1%, P = 0.352), nor overall survival was improved by R-2CdA versus R-CHOP. However, R-2CdA was more tolerable than R-CHOP in MZL patients regarding grade 3/4 hematological adverse events (odds ratio [OR] 0.565, 95% confidence interval [CI] neutropenic fever (OR 0.795, 95% CI 0.678-0.932), and infections (OR 0.800, 95% CI 0.640-1.000). Overall, our study demonstrated that R-2CdA is potentially as effective as but safer than R-CHOP in advanced MZL.

RESUMO

Porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs) represent an important category of porous solids. PAFs possess rigid frameworks and exceptionally high surface areas, and, uniquely, they are constructed from carbon-carbon-bond-linked aromatic-based building units. Various functionalities can either originate from the intrinsic chemistry of their building units or are achieved by postmodification of the aromatic motifs using established reactions. Specially, the strong carbon-carbon bonding renders PAFs stable under harsh chemical treatments. Therefore, PAFs exhibit specificity in their chemistry and functionalities compared with conventional porous materials such as zeolites and metal organic frameworks. The unique features of PAFs render them being tolerant of severe environments and readily functionalized by harsh chemical treatments. The research field of PAFs has experienced rapid expansion over the past decade, and it is necessary to provide a comprehensive guide to the essential development of the field at this stage. Regarding research into PAFs, the synthesis, functionalization, and applications are the three most important topics. In this thematic review, the three topics are comprehensively explained and aptly exemplified to shed light on developments in the field. Current questions and a perspective outlook will be summarized.

RESUMO

Continuous microporous membranes are widely studied for gas separation, due to their low energy premium and strong molecular specificity. Porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs) with their exceptional stability and structural flexibility are suited to a wide range of separations. Main-stream PAF-based membranes are usually prepared with polymeric matrices, but their discrete entities and boundary defects weaken their selectivity and permeability. The synthesis of continuous PAF membranes is still a major challenge because PAFs are insoluble. Herein, we successfully synthesized a continuous PAF membrane for gas separation. Both pore size and chemistry of the PAF membrane were modified by ion-exchange, resulting in good selectivity and permeance for the gas mixtures H2 /N2 and CO2 /N2 . The membrane with Br- as a counter ion in the framework exhibited a H2 /N2 selectivity of 72.7 with a H2 permeance of 51844 gas permeation units (GPU). When the counter ions were replaced by BF4 - , the membrane showed a CO2 permeance of 23058 GPU, and an optimized CO2 /N2 selectivity of 60.0. Our results show that continuous PAF membranes with modifiable pores are promising for various gas separation situations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common endocrine system tumour. Several studies had revealed the potential of circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) as novel biomarkers for the diagnosis of TC. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to summarize published studies and evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of circulating miRNAs in TC detection. METHODS: In this meta-analysis, we systematically searched three databases: PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library. We used the bivariate mixed-effects regression model to calculate the pooled diagnostic parameters and conduct the summary receiver operator characteristic curve (SROC). All calculations were performed using stata software. RESULTS: Thirty-five studies from 9 articles, including 663 TC patients, 519 patients with benign thyroid nodules (BTNs), and 84 healthy controls were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) and area under the SROC curve (AUC) were 0.81 (95% CI 0.75-0.86), 0.81 (95% CI 0.75-0.86), 4.3 (95% CI 3.2-5.6), 0.24 (95% CI 0.18-0.31), 18 (95% CI 12-28) and 0.88 (95% CI 0.85-0.90), respectively in BTN controls, and 0.81 (95% CI 0.75-0.86), 0.85 (95% CI 0.75-0.91), 5.3 (95% CI 3.3-8.7), 0.23 (95% CI 0.18-0.29), 24 (95% CI 14-39), 0.89 (95% CI 0.86-0.91) in healthy controls. The subgroup analysis found that multiple miRNA assays had higher diagnostic accuracy than single miRNA assays with sensitivity of 0.88, specificity of 0.89 and AUC of 0.94. CONCLUSION: Circulating miRNAs have good values to diagnose TC and distinguish TC patients from BTN patients. MiRNAs can assist in the diagnosis of malignancy and avoid unnecessary surgery. In summary, circulating miRNAs should be added to our current clinical tools.

RESUMO

Triplet energy transfer from inorganic nanocrystals to molecular acceptors has attracted strong attention for high-efficiency photon upconversion. Here we study this problem using CsPbBr3 and CdSe nanocrystals as triplet donors and carboxylated anthracene isomers as acceptors. We find that the position of the carboxyl anchoring group on the molecule dictates the donor-acceptor coupling to be either through-bond or through-space, while the relative strength of the two coupling pathways is controlled by the wavefunction leakage of nanocrystals that can be quantitatively tuned by nanocrystal sizes or shell thicknesses. By simultaneously engineering molecular geometry and nanocrystal wavefunction, energy transfer and photon upconversion efficiencies of a nanocrystal/molecule system can be improved by orders of magnitude.

RESUMO

Accurate position information plays an important role in wireless sensor networks (WSN), and cooperative positioning based on cooperation among agents is a promising methodology of providing such information. Conventional cooperative positioning algorithms, such as least squares (LS), rely on approximate position estimates obtained from prior measurements. This paper explores the fundamental mechanism underlying the least squares algorithm's sensitivity to the initial position selection and approaches to dealing with such sensitivity. This topic plays an essential role in cooperative positioning, as it determines whether a cooperative positioning algorithm can be implemented ubiquitously. In particular, a sufficient and unnecessary condition for the least squares cost function to be convex is found and proven. We then propose a robust algorithm for wireless sensor network positioning that transforms the cost function into a globally convex function by detecting the null space of the relative angle matrix when all the targets are located inside the convex polygon formed by its neighboring nodes. Furthermore, we advance one step further and improve the algorithm to apply it in both the time of arrival (TOA) and angle of arrival/time of arrival (AOA/TOA) scenarios. Finally, the performance of the proposed approach is quantified via simulations, and the results show that the proposed method has a high positioning accuracy and is robust in both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) positioning environments.

RESUMO

The separation of acetylene from ethylene is a crucial process in the petrochemical industry, as even small acetylene impurities can lead to premature termination of ethylene polymerization. Herein, we present the synthesis of a robust, crystalline naphthalene diimide porous aromatic framework via imidization of linear naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic dianhydride and triangular tris(4-aminophenyl)amine. The resulting material, PAF-110, exhibits impressive thermal and long-term structural stability, as indicated by thermogravimetric analysis and powder X-ray diffraction characterization. Gas adsorption characterization reveals that PAF-110 has a capacity for acetylene that is more than twice its ethylene capacity at 273 K and 1 bar, and it exhibits a moderate acetylene selectivity of 3.9 at 298 K and 1 bar. Complementary computational investigation of each guest binding in PAF-110 suggests that this affinity and selectivity for acetylene arises from its stronger electrostatic interaction with the carbonyl oxygen atoms of the framework. To the best of our knowledge, PAF-110 is the first crystalline porous organic material to exhibit selective adsorption of acetylene over ethylene, and its properties may provide insight into the further optimized design of porous organic materials for this key gas separation.

RESUMO

Casein kinase II subunit alpha (CK2α) is highly expressed in many malignant tumor tissues, including lymphomas and leukemia. To investigate the role of CK2α in cell proliferation and apoptosis of malignant lymphomas and leukemia, 2 lymphoma cell lines and one leukemia cell line were infected with CK2α shRNA lentivirus or negative control shRNA lentivirus, and stably infected cell lines were established. Real-time PCR and Western blot results showed that the mRNA and protein levels of CK2α were significantly reduced in CK2α knockdown cells. The tetrazolium-based colorimetric (MTT) assay found that down-regulation of CK2α inhibited the proliferation of these cells. Flow cytometry analysis showed that inhibition of CK2α induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of lymphoma and leukemia cells. In accordance with these, down-regulation of CK2α also reduced the protein levels of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), cyclinD1, and bcl-2, and increased the protein expression of bax, cleaved caspase-3, cleaved caspase-9, and cleaved poly(ADP ribose) polymerase (PARP). Moreover, knockdown of CK2α impeded the growth of xenograft tumors in vivo. In summary, our study revealed that CK2α may contribute to the development of malignant lymphoma and leukemia, and serve as the therapeutic target of these malignant tumors.

RESUMO

Epidemiological studies have assessed the association between Fc gamma receptor IIIA (FCGR3A) 158 V/F and the response to rituximab-based therapy in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), but the findings have been inconsistent. We performed this meta-analysis to obtain a better assessment of this relationship. Electronic database searches were conducted for relevant studies. A pooled odds ratio (OR) with a 95 % confidence interval (95 % CI) was used to assess the strength of the association. Analyses of the subgroup and publication bias were conducted. A total of 10 studies involving 1050 patients were analyzed. In all the genetic models, no clear relationship was found between the FCGR3A 158 V/F polymorphism and the response to rituximab-based therapy in NHL patients. When categorized by ethnicity, Asian individuals with the FCGR3A 158 V/V allele (OR = 4.37; 95 % CI = 1.07-17.73; P = 0.039) or the non-F/(FV + VV) (OR = 2.50; 95 % CI = 1.04-5.98; P = 0.040) allele have a significantly higher complete response rate (CR) compared to FF individuals. No obvious heterogeneities were observed. In addition, no statistical evidence for a publication bias was found. Our study suggested that the FCGR3A 158 V/F polymorphism can predict the treatment response to rituximab-based chemotherapy in NHL patients, especially for Asian individuals.

RESUMO

The targeted synthesis of a series of novel charged porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs) is reported. The compounds PAF-23, PAF-24, and PAF-25 are built up by a tetrahedral building unit, lithium tetrakis(4-iodophenyl)borate (LTIPB), and different alkyne monomers as linkers by a Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling reaction. They possess excellent adsorption properties to organic molecules owing to their "breathing" dynamic frameworks. As these PAF materials assemble three effective sorption sites, namely the ion bond, phenyl ring, and triple bond together, they exhibit high affinity and capacity for iodine molecules. To the best of our knowledge, these PAF materials give the highest adsorption values among all porous materials (zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, and porous organic frameworks) reported to date.

RESUMO

Hydrolysis of germanosilicate zeolites with the IWW structure shows two different outcomes depending on the composition of the starting materials. Ge-rich IWW (Si/Ge=3.1) is disassembled into a layered material (IPC-5P), which can be reassembled into an almost pure silica IWW on treatment with diethoxydimethylsilane. Ge-poor IWW (Si/Ge=6.4) is not completely disassembled on hydrolysis, but retains some 3D connectivity. This structure can be reassembled into IWW by incorporation of Al to fill the defects left when the Ge is removed.
