RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of aminophenylbutyric acid (anvifen), a synthetic GABA-receptor agonist, in the treatment of adult patients with tension type headache (TTH). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighty-seven patients with episodic TTH (ETTH) and 30 patients with chronic TTH (CTTH) were examined. The area under the headache curve, sleep quality, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scores and stress resistance measured by an original questionnaire were evaluated. RESULTS: Anvifen in dose of 250 mg TID during 3 weeks had a positive effect on all parameters studied, excluding the area under the headache curve in CTTH. Similar results were demonstrated after the subsequent course of treatment for 3 weeks. CONCLUSION: Anvifen was highly effective in ETTH but less effective in CTTH. A combination of anvifen with antidepressants can be recommended for patients with CTTH.

RESUMO

Moya-moya is a rare cerebrovascular disease characterized by the progressive occlusion of cerebral vessels with partial switching off the circle of Willis and arteries that feed it. The article provides a review of literature, modern diagnostic criteria and a description of a single clinical case. The onset of the disease in this patient was characterized by headache and speech disorders. An analysis of speech disorders showed that they were systemic. They were registered at all language levels (phonetic, lexical, morphological, syntactic). A long diagnostic search may be explained by clinical manifestations that are atypical for other cerebrovascular diseases and by the rarity of the disease.

RESUMO

In a non-psychiatric clinic a combined psychiatric and somato-autonomic investigation was performed in 75 prepuberty and puberty children with functional hyperthermia . Syndromal and nosological characterization was performed on a spectrum of psychic disorders in these patients. Some correlations were found between syndromal and nosological distributions and grouping based on somato-autonomic++ picture.

RESUMO

AIM: To reveal the structural features of the red blood cell membrane in patients with prolonged persistence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). MATERIALS AND METHODS: 61 patients with moderate and mild chronic viral hepatitis B and C were examined. A control group comprised 22 healthy donors. Fluorescence of the red blood cell membrane was performed, by using the following probes: pyrene, phenylnaphthylamine, 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonate. The activity of the ion-transporting enzyme Na+, K(+)-ATPase was determined. RESULTS: Increases in the microviscosity of the lipid bilayer, periprotein lipid environment, as well as the structural modification of the surface layers of the membrane were found in patients with chronic hepatitis B and C. The activity of the membrane-bound enzyme Na+, K(+)-ATPase was statistically significantly decreased as compared with that in healthy donors. CONCLUSION: In HBV and HCV infection, the impairments of the red blood system are highly diversified: they involve bone marrow compartment of an erythron, as earlier shown, and its peripheral one. Molecular disorganization of the red blood cell membrane fails to present with obvious red blood cell dysfunctions. Despite the multifactorial property of their occurrence, impairments of the red blood system are mediated and corrected by many regulatory mechanisms at different organizational levels and may be compensated.

RESUMO

We studied the in vitro effect of apolipoprotein A-I possessing activity of defensin proteins on the structure of plasma membranes in donor erythrocytes and lymphocytes. Incubation of erythrocyte membranes with apolipoprotein A-I was accompanied by significant changes in biophysical characteristics of a fluorescent probe pyrene in the hydrophobic membrane region and a decrease in Na+/K(+)-ATPase activity. Microviscosity of annular lipids in the plasma membrane of lymphocytes increased during incubation with apolipoprotein A-I. Our results suggest that membranotropic activity of apolipoprotein A-I is associated with the presence of amphipathic alpha-helix regions.

RESUMO

Chronic viral hepatitis C is associated with decreased production of TNF-alpha by the peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes irrespective of virus genotype and degree of the morphological activity of the process in the liver. This process positively correlates with the increase in the content of TNF-alpha soluble receptor (molecular weight 55 kDa), which can play a role in the mechanisms of immunopathogenesis of long persistence of hepatitis C virus in the body.

RESUMO

To ascertain the cerebral organization and the importance of its specific levels in the occurrence of the thermopathological syndrome associated with vegetovascular dystonia, 40 children aged 8-15 years with non-infectious subfebrile conditions of long standing were examined. The children's status was marked by polysystemic shifts common to the neurogenous disorders. Of crucial significance was dysfunction of the structures of the suprasegmental level (the limbic-reticular complex) of vegetative regulation with the involvement of the specialized hypothalamic centers of thermoregulation, with excessive sympathetic influences at the periphery and formation of the psychovegetative syndrome. An individual analysis of the psychovegetative syndrome makes it possible to define the contribution of the concrete endo- and exogenous factors to the pathogenesis of non-infectious subfebrile conditions and to develop a differential approach to the treatment.

RESUMO

The structure of lymphocyte and erythrocyte plasma membrane in patients with long persistence of tick-borne encephalitis virus was studied using fluorescent probes pyrene and 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonate. The authors analyze the clear-cut disorders in the membranes of both lymphocytes and erythrocytes in viral tick-borne-encephalitis from the viewpoint of generalized involvement of cell membranes in infectious process.

RESUMO

Study of the surface phenotype, structure of plasma membrane, and activity of DNA repair system in peripheral blood lymphocytes from patients with different clinical forms of tick-borne encephalitis associated with long persistence of the virus revealed a pronounced imbalance between lymphocyte subpopulations, increased microviscosity of the plasma membrane lipid phase, and decreased activity of the DNA repair system in lymphocytes.
