RESUMO

The dual jaw joint of Morganucodon1,2 consists of the dentary-squamosal joint laterally and the articular-quadrate one medially. The articular-quadrate joint and its associated post-dentary bones constitute the precursor of the mammalian middle ear. Fossils documenting the transition from such a precursor to the mammalian middle ear are poor, resulting in inconsistent interpretations of this hallmark apparatus in the earliest stage of mammaliaform evolution1-5. Here we report mandibular middle ears from two Jurassic mammaliaforms: a new morganucodontan-like species and a pseudotribosphenic shuotheriid species6. The morganucodontan-like species shows many previously unknown post-dentary bone morphologies1,2 and exhibits features that suggest a loss of load-bearing function in its articular-quadrate joint. The middle ear of the shuotheriid approaches the mammalian condition in that it has features that are suitable for an exclusively auditory function, although the post-dentary bones are still attached to the dentary. With size reduction of the jaw-joint bones, the quadrate shifts medially at different degrees in relation to the articular in the two mammaliaforms. These changes provide evidence of a gradual loss of load-bearing function in the articular-quadrate jaw joint-a prerequisite for the detachment of the post-dentary bones from the dentary7-12 and the eventual breakdown of the Meckel's cartilage13-15 during the evolution of mammaliaforms.

RESUMO

Exploring the high-performance photoelectronic properties of perovskite quantum dots (QDs) is desirable for paper-based photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing;however, challenges remain in improving their stability and fundamental performance. Herein, a novel Z-scheme heterostructure with host-guest interaction by the confinement of CH3NH3PbBr3 QDs within Cu3(BTC)2 metal-organic framework (MOF) crystal (MAPbBr3@Cu3(BTC)2) is successfully constructed on the paper-based PEC device for ultrasensitive detection of Ochratoxin A (OTA), with the assistance of the exciton-plasmon interaction (EPI) effect. The host-guest interaction is estabilished by encapsulating MAPbBr3 QDs as guests within Cu3(BTC)2 MOF as a host, which prevents MAPbBr3 QDs from being damaged in the polar system, offering access to long-term stability with high-performance PEC properties. Benefiting from the precise alignment of energy levels, the photogenerated charge carriers can migrate according to the Z-scheme charge-transfer pathway under the driving force of the internal electric field, achieving a high photoelectric conversion efficiency. Upon OTA recognition, the EPI effect is activated to modulate the exciton response in MAPbBr3 QDs by accelerating radiative decay, finally achieving sensitive OTA sensing with a detection limit of 0.017 pg mL-1. We believe this work renders new insight into designing host-guest Z-scheme heterojunctions in constructing the paper-based PEC sensing platforms for environmental monitoring.

RESUMO

Murine Natural Killer cells were cultivated in vitro to isolate NK-derived exosomes. Subsequent quantification via qPCR confirmed enrichment of miR-1249-3p. Ana-1 murine macrophages were cultured in vitro and subsequently inoculated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) strain H37Rv. NK-exo and NK-exo miR-1249-3p were separately applied to the infection model, followed by immunological assays conducted post-48-hour co-culture. Western blot analyses corroborated that NK-exo exhibited exosomal marker proteins Granzyme A (GzmA), Granzyme B (GzmB), and Perforin (PFN), alongside a notable enrichment of miR-1249-3p. Functionally, NK-exo augmented the expression levels of Caspase-9,-8, and -3, as well as PARP, while attenuating the expression of NLRP3, ASC, and Cleaved-Caspase-1. Furthermore, qPCR demonstrated an up-regulation of Caspase-9, -8, and -3, along with pro-apoptotic factors Bax and Bid, and a concomitant down-regulation of the anti-apoptotic factor Bcl-2. The expression levels of inflammatory markers ASC, NLRP3, Cleaved-Caspase-1, and IL-1ß were concomitantly decreased. ELISA findings indicated diminished levels of TNF-α and ROS secretion. NK-exo miR-1249-3p specifically targeted and attenuated the expression of SKOR-1, engendering up-regulation of apoptosis-associated proteins and down-regulation of inflammation-related proteins, consequently affecting cellular fate. Our empirical evidence substantiates that NK-exo induces macrophage apoptosis, thereby mitigating MTB survival. Furthermore, NK-exo miR-1249-3p directly targets and inhibits SKOR-1 expression, leading to macrophage apoptosis and consequently hampering the proliferation of MTB. The data implicate the potential therapeutic relevance of NK-exo and miR-1249-3p in managing drug-resistant tuberculosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Patients with hemifacial spasm (HFS) often resort to botulinum toxin injections or microvascular decompression surgery when medication exhibits limited effectiveness. This study aimed to identify MRI and demographic factors associated with poor drug response at an early stage in patients with HFS. METHODS: We retrospectively included patients with HFS who underwent pre-therapeutic MRI examination. The presence, location, severity, and the offending vessels of neurovascular compression were blindly evaluated using MRI. Drug responses and clinical data were obtained from the medical notes or phone follow-ups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify potential factors. RESULTS: A total of 116 patients were included, with an average age at the time of first examination of 50.4 years and a median duration of onset of 18 months. Forty-nine (42.2%) patients reported no symptom relief. Thirty-seven (31.9%) patients reported poor symptom relief. Twenty-two (19.0%) patients reported partial symptom relief. Eight (6.9%) patients achieved complete symptom relief. The factors that were statistically significant associated with poor drug responses were contact in the attach segment of the facial nerve and aged 70 and above, with an odds ratio of 7.772 (p = 0.002) and 0.160 (p = 0.028), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that mild compression in the attach segment of the facial nerve in pre-therapeutic MRI increases the risk of poor drug responses in patients with HFS, while patients aged 70 and above showed a decreased risk. These findings may assist clinician to choose optimal treatment at an early stage.

RESUMO

Metal atoms on the support serve as active sites for many heterogeneous catalysts. However, the active metal sites on the support are conventionally described as static, and the intermediates adsorbed on the support far away from the active metal sites cannot be transformed. Herein, we report the first example of operando mobile catalysis to promote catalytic efficiency by enhancing the collision probability between active sites and reactants or reaction intermediates. Specifically, ligand-coordinated Pt single atoms (isolated MeCpPt- species) are bonded on CeO2 and transformed into mobile MeCpPt(H)CO complexes during the reverse water gas shift reaction for operando mobile catalysis. This strategy enables the conversion of inert carbonate intermediates on the CeO2 support. A turnover frequency (TOF) of 6358 mol CO2 molPt -1 ⋅ h-1 and 99 % CO selectivity at 300 °C is obtained for reverse water gas shift reaction, dramatically higher than those of Pt catalysts reported in the literature. Operando mobile catalysis presents a promising strategy for designing high-efficiency heterogeneous catalysts for various chemical reactions and applications.

RESUMO

Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is the most important species of shrimp farmed worldwide in terms of its economic value. Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) infects the hepatopancreas, resulting in the hepatopancreatic microsporidiosis (HPM) of the host, which causes slow growth of the shrimp and poses a threat to the farming industry. In this study, differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) between EHP-infected and uninfected shrimp were investigated through proteomics sequencing. A total of 9908 peptides and 2092 proteins were identified. A total of 69 DEPs were identified in the hepatopancreas (HP), of which, 28 were upregulated and 41 were downregulated. Our results showed that the differences among the level of multiple proteins involved in the apoptosis were significant after the EHP infection, which indicated that the apoptosis pathway was activated in whiteleg shrimp. In addition, expression leve of caspase 3 gene were identified related to the EHP infection. Furthermore, predictions of spatial structure, analysis of phylogeny and chromosome-level linearity of the caspase 3 protein were performed as well. In conclusion, a relatively complete proteomic data set of hepatopancreas tissues in whiteleg shrimp were established in this study. Findings about genes involved in the apoptosis here will provide a further understanding of the molecular mechanism of EHP infection in the internal immunity of whiteleg shrimp.

RESUMO

Exposure to workplace bullying increases the risk of sickness absence. However, the extent and direction of this relationship for different follow-up lengths are not well established. To provide evidence regarding the direction and extent of the relationship between workplace bullying and different durations of sickness absence. We searched nine databases from their inception to 29 November 2022. Multiple independent observers screened the literature, extracted the data and used the Risk Of Bias In Non-randomised Studies of Exposure to assess the methodological quality. The overall effect sizes of odds ratio, relative risk, hazard ratio and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Our meta-analysis demonstrated a 26% increased risk of sick leave among workers exposed to workplace bullying for all follow-up lengths (95% CI 1.18 to 1.35), even after adjusting for confounding factors. Moreover, we found a significant association between long-term sickness absence and a higher likelihood of subsequent exposure to workplace bullying, with a pooled OR of 1.63 (95% CI 1.21 to 2.04). Our study established a bidirectional relationship between workplace bullying and long-term sickness absence, highlighting that it increases the risk of sickness absence at different follow-up lengths among employees who have been bullied. Hence, organisations should be mindful of workers who resume work after prolonged absences due to illness and adopt appropriate management strategies to prevent workplace bullying.

RESUMO

The site of fat deposition plays an important role in meat quality and body health. Biologically, the perirenal visceral fat (PF) and back subcutaneous fat (BF) are distinct. Angus and Simmental cattle (Bos taurus) were used as models. HE staining, triglyceride assay kit and RNA-seq were used to analyze the differences in tissue morphology and lipid accumulation, co-genes, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the two tissues. According to the findings, BF has a smaller cell area and greater lipid deposition ability than PF. RNA-seq generated approximately 10.99 Gb of data in each library, and 23,472 genes were identified. The genes FABP4, ADIRF, and SCD that are related to adipose deposition were highly expressed in four tissues. There were 1678 DEGs and 1955 DEGs between BF and PF in Angus and Simmental cattle respectively. Gene Ontology function analysis identified several DEGs involved in metabolism. KEGG pathway analysis showed that four pathways related to fat metabolism were enriched. In the BF, seven genes (COL1A1, COL1A2, COL3A1, COL2A1, RXRA, C1QTNF7, and MOGAT2) were up-regulated. Five genes (ADRB3, ABHD5, CPT1B, CD36, LPIN1) were down-regulated. This study identified candidate genes that led to differences in fat metabolism, which could be useful in cattle breeding.

RESUMO

Traditional graphite anode material typically shows a low theoretical capacity and easy lithium decomposition. Molybdenum disulfide is one of the promising anode materials for advanced lithium-ion batteries, which possess low cost, unique two-dimensional layered structure, and high theoretical capacity. However, the low reversible capacity and the cycling-capacity retention rate induced by its poor conductivity and volume expansion during cycling blocks further application. In this paper, a collaborative control strategy of monodisperse MoS2/graphite composites was utilized and studied in detail. MoS2/graphite nanocomposites with different ratios (MoS2:graphite = 20%:80%, 40%:60%, 60%:40%, and 80%:20%) were prepared by mechanical ball-milling and low-temperature annealing. The graphite sheets were uniformly dispersed between the MoS2 sheets by the ball-milling process, which effectively reduced the agglomeration of MoS2 and simultaneously improved the electrical conductivity of the composite. It was found that the capacity of MoS2/graphite composites kept increasing along with the increasing percentage of MoS2 and possessed the highest initial discharge capacity (832.70 mAh/g) when MoS2:graphite = 80%:20%. This facile strategy is easy to implement, is low-cost, and is cosmically produced, which is suitable for the development and manufacture of advance lithium-ion batteries.

RESUMO

Over the past decade, 2D van der Waals (vdW) topological materials (TMs), including topological insulators and topological semimetals, which combine atomically flat 2D layers and topologically nontrivial band structures, have attracted increasing attention in condensed-matter physics and materials science. These easily cleavable and integrated TMs provide the ideal platform for exploring topological physics in the 2D limit, where new physical phenomena may emerge, and represent a potential to control and investigate exotic properties and device applications in nanoscale topological phases. However, multifaced efforts are still necessary, which is the prerequisite for the practical application of 2D vdW TMs. Herein, this review focuses on the preparation, properties, and device applications of 2D vdW TMs. First, three common preparation strategies for 2D vdW TMs are summarized, including single crystal exfoliation, chemical vapor deposition, and molecular beam epitaxy. Second, the origin and regulation of various properties of 2D vdW TMs are introduced, involving electronic properties, transport properties, optoelectronic properties, thermoelectricity, ferroelectricity, and magnetism. Third, some device applications of 2D vdW TMs are presented, including field-effect transistors, memories, spintronic devices, and photodetectors. Finally, some significant challenges and opportunities for the practical application of 2D vdW TMs in 2D topological electronics are briefly addressed.

RESUMO

We propose a bi-layer transmissive metasurface to obtain linear-to-circular polarization conversion in a wideband. The unit cell of each metasurface layer, which has identical configuration, consists of a Jerusalem-cross-like resonator and a metal strip. A universal equivalent circuit model is employed to guide the design of the polarizer. By analyzing the circuit parameters of the equivalent circuit, four metal strips are symmetrically inserted in each unit cell to broaden the bandwidth of linear-to-circular polarization conversion. Numerical and experimental results show that the polarizer can convert a linearly polarized wave into a circularly polarized wave in a wideband from 6.1 GHz to 12.6 GHz. Compared to the reported designs, the proposed polarization converter has advantages of ultrathin thickness and ultrawideband, and hence can be used in many applications, such as antennas and remote sensors.

RESUMO

Yuanmoupithecus xiaoyuan, a small catarrhine from the Late Miocene of Yunnan in southern China, was initially suggested to be related to Miocene proconsuloids or dendropithecoids from East Africa, but subsequent reports indicated that it might be more closely related to hylobatids. Here, detailed comparisons of the material, including seven newly discovered teeth and a partial lower face of a juvenile individual, provide crucial evidence to help establish its phylogenetic relationships. Yuanmoupithecus exhibits a suite of synapomorphies that support a close phylogenetic relationship with extant hylobatids. Furthermore, based on the retention of several primitive features of the dentition, Yuanmoupithecus can be shown to be the sister taxon of crown hylobatids. The contention that Kapi ramnagarensis from the Middle Miocene of India might represent an earlier species of hylobatid is not supported here. Instead, Kapi is inferred to be a specialized pliopithecoid more closely related to Krishnapithecus krishnaii from the Late Miocene of India. Currently then, Yuanmoupithecus represents the earliest known definitively identified hylobatid and the only member of the clade predating the Pleistocene. It extends the fossil record of hylobatids back to 7-8 Ma and fills a critical gap in the evolutionary history of hominoids that has up until now remained elusive. Even so, molecular estimates of a divergence date of hylobatids from other hominoids at about 17-22 Ma signifies that there is still a substantial gap in the fossil record of more than 10 million years that needs to be filled in order to document the biogeographic origins and early evolution of hylobatids.

RESUMO

To address the problem of phase unwrapping for interferograms, a deep learning (DL) phase-unwrapping method based on adaptive noise evaluation is proposed to retrieve the unwrapped phase from the wrapped phase. First, this method uses a UNet3+ as the skeleton and combines with a residual neural network to build a network model suitable for unwrapping wrapped fringe patterns. Second, an adaptive noise level evaluation system for interferograms is designed to estimate the noise level of the interferograms by integrating phase quality maps and phase residues of the interferograms. Then, multiple training datasets with different noise levels are used to train the DL network to achieve the trained networks suitable for unwrapping interferograms with different noise levels. Finally, the interferograms are unwrapped by the trained networks with the same noise levels as the interferograms to be unwrapped. The results with simulated and experimental interferograms demonstrate that the proposed networks can obtain the popular unwrapped phase from the wrapped phase with different noise levels and show good robustness in the experiments of phase unwrapping for different types of fringe patterns.

RESUMO

Aluminum (Al3+) stress restricts plant seed germination and seedling growth seriously. Here, the sunflower "S175″ variety was used to explore the technique of improving seed vigor under Al3+ stress and investigate the effect of diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate (DA-6) on physiological characteristics in sunflower seeds during germination under Al3+ stress. The results showed that 3.0 mmol·L-1 Al3+ treatment significantly suppressed the sunflower seed germination and seedling growth. Al3+ stress significantly increased Al3+ content and secretion rates of citric and malic acids in sunflower seeds during germination. Besides, endogenous ethylene content was increased in Al3+-treated seeds. DA-6 serves as a positive signal to regulate the sunflower seed germination under Al3+ stress. Moreover, DA-6 enhanced the activities of malic dehydrogenase, citrate synthase, and isocitrate dehydrogenase, up-regulated the expressions of organic acid transport-related genes (ALMT and MATE), resulting in reduced accumulation of Al3+. Furthermore, exogenous DA-6 mitigated excessive accumulation of ethylene by decreasing the 1-aminocyclopropane-1-dihydrodipicolinate synthase activity and related-gene expression. However, DA-6 treatment had no effect on abscisic acid or gibberellin metabolism in sunflower seeds under Al3+ stress. These results confirmed that DA-6 application enhanced the germination capacity through induction of the synthesis and transport of malic and citric acids, and suppression of the excessive accumulation of endogenous ethylene, thus contributing to alleviate Al3+ toxicity in sunflower seeds.

RESUMO

As a new type of single element direct-bandgap semiconductor, black phosphorus (BP) shows many excellent characteristics due to its unique two-dimensional (2D) structure, which has great potential in the fields of optoelectronics, biology, sensing, information, and so on. In recent years, a series of physical and chemical methods have been developed to modify the surface of 2D BP to inhibit its contact with water and oxygen and improve the stability and physical properties of 2D BP. By doping and coating other materials, the stability of BP applied in the anode of a lithium-ion battery was improved. In this work, the preparation, passivation, and lithium-ion battery applications of two-dimensional black phosphorus are summarized and reviewed. Firstly, a variety of BP preparation methods are summarized. Secondly, starting from the environmental instability of BP, different passivation technologies are compared. Thirdly, the applications of BP in energy storage are introduced, especially the application of BP-based materials in lithium-ion batteries. Finally, based on preparation, surface functionalization, and lithium-ion battery of 2D BP, the current research status and possible future development direction are put forward.

RESUMO

Family caregivers play an increasingly important role in providing care services, especially for the aging population. Currently, evidence on compassion fatigue among family caregivers remains limited. Our study aims to assess the levels and related factors of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction in family caregivers. We searched nine electronic databases for published observational studies up to 7 October 2021. In our studies, the pooled mean scores of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction were 42.35 (95% CI: 28.45-56.24) and 36.41 (95% CI: 33.63-39.19), respectively. We considered background, role-related, and social psychological variables to influence the risk of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction. Current data suggest that overall compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction levels were moderate, thus highlighting the potential risk of compassion fatigue for family caregivers. In the future, these findings can be used to develop programs that will mitigate compassion fatigue and improve compassion satisfaction in family caregivers.

RESUMO

AIM: This review examined the association between workplace violence and the risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and burnout among nurses. BACKGROUND: The extent to which workplace violence is associated with an increased risk of PTSD and burnout in nurses remains unclear. EVALUATION: We searched nine electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Chinese Biomedical, China National Knowledge Internet and WANFANG). KEY ISSUES: Overall, 114 full-text studies were identified; 43 met the inclusion criteria, of which 10 were included in the meta-analysis. Compared to their counterparts with non-exposure to workplace violence, nurses experiencing it had 2.13 and 2.25 times higher odds of reporting PTSD and burnout after adjusting the confounding factors. Additionally, the moderator and mediator factors might help reduce the risk of both in this population. CONCLUSION: This study indicated that workplace violence increases the risk of PTSD and burnout. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: Our review identified the magnitude of the association between exposure to workplace violence and the reported symptoms of PTSD and burnout in nurses. Furthermore, multi-targeted efforts directed at the identified social/organizational, task-related and individual resources might help mitigate their harmful impact in the aforementioned population.

RESUMO

A robust phase unwrapping algorithm based on a rank information filter is proposed to retrieve the unambiguous unwrapped phase from noisy wrapped phase images. First, a recursive phase unwrapping program, based on a rank information filter, is proposed to transform the problem of phase unwrapping for wrapped phase into the problem of the state estimation for state variables under the framework of a rank information filter, where a local phase gradient estimator based on the amended matrix pencil model (AMPM) is used to obtain phase gradient information required by the recursive phase unwrapping program. Second, an efficient path-following strategy based on heap-sort is used to guide the phase unwrapping path, which ensures that the recursive phase unwrapping program based on a rank information filter unwraps wrapped phase images along the path from high-quality pixels to low-quality pixels. Finally, the results obtained from synthetic data and experimental measured data demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and show this method can obtain robust solutions from noisy wrapped phase images.

RESUMO

Nursing students from vocational college programs contribute to over 60% of the nursing student population in China. However, there remains a lack of systematic, quantitative studies examining the prevalence of mental health problems in this population. The purpose of this study was to explore the prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress symptoms and associated factors in vocational college nursing students in Sichuan, China. A total of 554 nursing students from vocational colleges participated in this cross-sectional study. Outcomes were measured with the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale 21 (DASS 21). Logistic regressions analysis was performed to examine correlates of mental health problems. The prevalence rates of depression, anxiety and stress symptoms among vocational college nursing students in China were 28.7% (95% CI 24.9%-32.5%), 41.7% (95% CI 37.6%-45.9%) and 20.2% (95% CI 16.8%-23.6%). Mental health problems were elevated as compared to a reference population of Chinese college students of all majors. However, only two percent indicated to seek treatment. The most consistent correlates of mental health problems were reduced engagement in physical and other leisure activities, poor sleep quality, experience of negative life events and poor self-perceived mental health.

RESUMO

Objectives Expression profile of GSE57691 was analyzed to identify the similarities and differences between aortic occlusive disease and abdominal aortic aneurysm. Methods The expression profile of GSE57691 was downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus database, including 20 small abdominal aortic aneurysm samples, 29 large abdominal aortic aneurysm samples, 9 aortic occlusive disease samples, and 10 control samples. Using the limma package in R, the differentially expressed genes were screened. Followed by enrichment analysis was performed for the differentially expressed genes using database for annotation, visualization, and integrated discovery online tool. Based on string online tool and Cytoscape software, protein-protein interaction network and module analyses were carried out. Moreover, integrated TF platform database and Cytoscape software were used for constructing transcriptional regulatory networks. Results As a result, 1757, 354, and 396 differentially expressed genes separately were identified in aortic occlusive disease, large abdominal aortic aneurysm, and small abdominal aortic aneurysm samples. UBB was significantly enriched in proteolysis related pathways with a high degree in three groups. SPARCL1 was another gene shared by these groups and regulated by NFIA, which had a high degree in transcriptional regulatory network. ACTB, a significant upregulated gene in abdominal aortic aneurysm samples, could be regulated by CLIC4, which was significantly enriched in cell motions. ACLY and NFIB were separately identified in aortic occlusive disease and small abdominal aortic aneurysm samples, and separately enriched in lipid metabolism and negative regulation of cell proliferation. Conclusions The downregulated UBB, NFIA, and SPARCL1 might play key roles in both aortic occlusive disease and abdominal aortic aneurysm, while the upregulated ACTB might only involve in abdominal aortic aneurysm. ACLY and NFIB were specifically involved in aortic occlusive disease and small abdominal aortic aneurysm separately.
