RESUMO
Fluoro-substitution solvents have achieved great success in electrolyte engineering for high-energy lithium metal batteries, which, however, is beset by low solvating power, thermal and chemical instability, and possible battery swelling. Instead, we herein introduce cyanogen as the electron-withdrawing group to enhance the oxidative stability of ether solvents, in which cyanogen and ether oxygen form the chelating structure with Li+ not notably undermining the solvating power. Cyano-group strongly bonds with transition metals (TMs) of NCM811 cathode to attenuate the catalytic reactivity of TMs toward bulk electrolytes. Besides, a stable and uniform cathode-electrolyte interphase (CEI) inhibits the violent oxidation decomposition of electrolytes and guarantees the structural integrity of the NCM811 cathode. Also, a N-containing and LiF-rich solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) in our electrolyte facilitates fast Li+ migration and dense Li deposition. Accordingly, our electrolyte enables a stable cycle of Li metal anode with Coulombic efficiency of 98.4% within 100 cycles. 81.8% capacity of 4.3 V NCM811 cathode remains after 200 cycles. Anode-free pouch cells with a capacity of 125 mAh maintain 76% capacity after 100 cycles, corresponding to an energy density of 397.5 Wh kg-1.

Ketogenic diets have attracted substantial interest in the treatment of chronic diseases, but there are health risks with long-term regimes. Despite the advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic methods in modern medicine, there is a huge gap in personalized health management of this dietary strategy. Hence, we present a wearable microneedle biosensor for real-time ketone and glucose monitoring. The microneedle array possesses excellent mechanical properties, allowing for consistent sampling of interstitial biomarkers while reducing the pain associated with skin puncture. Vertical graphene with outstanding electrical conductivity provides the resulting sensor with a high sensitivity of 234.18 µA mM-1 cm-2 and a low limit detection of 1.21 µM. When this fully integrated biosensor was used in human volunteers, it displayed an attractive analytical capability for tracking the dynamic metabolite levels. Moreover, the results of the on-body evaluation established a significant correlation with commercial blood measurements. Overall, this cost-effective and efficient sensing platform can accelerate the application of a ketogenic diet in personal nutrition and wellness management.

Prelithiation is an essential technology to compensate for the initial lithium loss of lithium-ion batteries due to the formation of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and irreversible structure change. However, the prelithiated materials/electrodes become more reactive with air and electrolyte resulting in unwanted side reactions and contaminations, which makes it difficult for the practical application of prelithiation technology. To address this problem, herein, interphase engineering through a simple solution treatment after chemical prelithiation is proposed to protect the prelithiated electrode. The used solutions are carefully selected, and the composition and nanostructure of the as-formed artificial SEIs are revealed by cryogenic electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The electrochemical evaluation demonstrates the unique merits of this artificial SEI, especially for the fluorinated interphase, which not only enhances the interfacial ion transport but also increases the tolerance of the prelithiated electrode to the air. The treated graphite electrode shows an initial Coulombic efficiency of 129.4%, a high capacity of 170 mAh g-1 at 3 C, and negligible capacity decay after 200 cycles at 1 C. These findings not only provide a facile, universal, and controllable method to construct an artificial SEI but also enlighten the upgrade of battery fabrication and the alternative use of advanced electrolytes.
RESUMO
Recent neuroimaging studies in humans have reported distinct temporal dynamics of gyri and sulci, which may be associated with putative functions of cortical gyrification. However, the complex folding patterns of the human cortex make it difficult to explain temporal patterns of gyrification. In this study, we used the common marmoset as a simplified model to examine the temporal characteristics and compare them with the complex gyrification of humans. Using a brain-inspired deep neural network, we obtained reliable temporal-frequency fingerprints of gyri and sulci from the awake rs-fMRI data of marmosets and humans. Notably, the temporal fingerprints of one region successfully classified the gyrus/sulcus of another region in both marmosets and humans. Additionally, the temporal-frequency fingerprints were remarkably similar in both species. We then analyzed the resulting fingerprints in several domains and adopted the Wavelet Transform Coherence approach to characterize the gyro-sulcal coupling patterns. In both humans and marmosets, sulci exhibited higher frequency bands than gyri, and the two were temporally coupled within the same range of phase angles. This study supports the notion that gyri and sulci possess unique and evolutionarily conserved features that are consistent across functional areas, and advances our understanding of the functional role of cortical gyrification.

Recently, the functional roles of the human cortical folding patterns have attracted increasing interest in the neuroimaging community. However, most existing studies have focused on the gyro-sulcal functional relationship on a whole-brain scale but possibly overlooked the localized and subtle functional differences of brain networks. Actually, accumulating evidences suggest that functional brain networks are the basic unit to realize the brain function; thus, the functional relationships between gyri and sulci still need to be further explored within different functional brain networks. Inspired by these evidences, we proposed a novel intrinsic connectivity network (ICN)-guided pooling-trimmed convolutional neural network (I-ptFCN) to revisit the functional difference between gyri and sulci. By testing the proposed model on the task functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) datasets of the Human Connectome Project, we found that the classification accuracy of gyral and sulcal fMRI signals varied significantly for different ICNs, indicating functional heterogeneity of cortical folding patterns in different brain networks. The heterogeneity may be contributed by sulci, as only sulcal signals show heterogeneous frequency features across different ICNs, whereas the frequency features of gyri are homogeneous. These results offer novel insights into the functional difference between gyri and sulci and enlighten the functional roles of cortical folding patterns.

Solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) makes the electrochemical window of aqueous electrolytes beyond the thermodynamics limitation of water. However, achieving the energetic and robust SEI is more challenging in aqueous electrolytes because the low SEI formation efficiency (SFE) only contributed from anion-reduced products, and the low SEI formation quality (SFQ) negatively impacted by the hydrogen evolution, resulting in a high Li loss to compensate for SEI formation. Herein, we propose a highly efficient strategy to construct Spatially-Temporally Synchronized (STS) robust SEI by the involvement of synergistic chemical precipitation-electrochemical reduction. In this case, a robust Li3 PO4 -rich SEI enables intelligent inherent growth at the active site of the hydrogen by the chemical capture of the OH- stemmed from the HER to trigger the ionization balance of dihydrogen phosphate (H2 PO4 - ) shift to insoluble solid Li3 PO4 . It is worth highlighting that the Li3 PO4 formation does not extra-consume lithium derived from the cathode but makes good use of the product of HER (OH- ), prompting the SEI to achieve 100 % SFE and pushing the HER potential into -1.8â V vs. Ag/AgCl. This energetic and robust SEI offers a new way to achieve anion/concentration-independent interfacial chemistry for the aqueous batteries.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Clinical trials of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) often do not include patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). We aimed to determine the safety of ICIs in patients with cancer and advanced CKD (stages 4-5 CKD, estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] <30 mL/minute/1.73 m2). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with advanced CKD from the Mass General Brigham network who received ICIs (n = 91) were compared against those receiving nephrotoxic (n = 113) and non-nephrotoxic (n = 130) antineoplastic therapies, respectively. Rates of new-onset kidney failure (end-stage kidney disease or sustained eGFR ≤10 mL/minute/1.73 m2) and AKI were compared. Among ICI-treated patients, we modeled Fine-Gray subdistribution hazards to compare immune-related adverse event (irAE) risk and used Kaplan-Meier analysis to compare overall survival in patients with advanced CKD to those with eGFR ≥30 mL/minute/1.73 m2. RESULTS: Rates of new-onset kidney failure were similar at 1 year following initiation of ICIs (10.0%), nephrotoxic (6.2%), and non-nephrotoxic antineoplastic therapies (9.3%) (P = .28). AKI rates were also similar: 17.5%, 17.6%, and 20% of patients in each cohort, respectively (P = .87). Advanced CKD did not increase the risk of developing irAEs (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 1.28, 95% CI, 0.91-1.81). However, patients with advanced CKD who received ICIs had a decreased overall survival compared with patients with eGFR ≥30 mL/minute/1.73 m2 (HR 1.30 for death, 95% CI, 1.02-1.66, P = .03). CONCLUSION: ICIs are not associated with increased risk of AKI or new-onset kidney failure compared with other antineoplastic therapies in patients with advanced CKD. Advanced CKD did not increase the risk of extra-renal irAEs, although these patients suffered from lower overall survival.

Solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) plays an important role in regulating the interfacial ion transfer and safety of Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). It is unstable and readily decomposed releasing much heat and gases and thus triggering thermal runaway. Herein, in situ heating X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is applied to uncover the inherent thermal decomposition process of the SEI. The evolution of the composition, nanostructure, and the released gases are further probed by cryogenic transmission electron microscopy, and gas chromatography. The results show that the organic components of SEI are readily decomposed even at room temperature, releasing some flammable gases (e.g., H2 , CO, C2 H4 , etc.). The residual SEI after heat treatment is rich in inorganic components (e.g., Li2 O, LiF, and Li2 CO3 ), provides a nanostructure model for a beneficial SEI with enhanced stability. This work deepens the understanding of SEI intrinsic thermal stability, reveals its underlying relationship with the thermal runaway of LIBs, and enlightens to enhance the safety of LIBs by achieving inorganics-rich SEI.
RESUMO
In order to obtain a system of higher complexity, a new fractional-order chaotic system is constructed based on the Sprott system. It is noteworthy that the system has no equilibrium point yet exhibits chaotic properties and has rich dynamical behavior. Its basic properties are analyzed by Lyapunov exponents, phase diagrams, and smaller alignment index tests. The change of its state is observed by changing parameters and order, during which the new system is found to have intermittent chaos phenomena. Surprisingly, the new proposed system has a special offset-boosting phenomenon, where only a boosting-controller makes the system undergo a multi-directional offset, and the shape of the generated hidden attractor changes. In addition, changing the initial value brings kinds of coexisting attractors in the system, which proves the existence of multistability. Because the new system is very sensitive to the initial value, the complexity of the new system is calculated based on the complexity algorithm, and the initial value with higher complexity is gained by contrast. Finally, the field programmable gate array is used to implement the actual circuit of the new system to verify its feasibility. This system provides an example for the study of fractional-order chaotic systems and a complex system for fractional-order chaotic applications.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Drought is a significant condition that restricts vegetation growth on the Tibetan Plateau. Artemisia wellbyi is a unique semi-shrub-like herb in the family Compositae, which distributed in northern and northwest of Tibetan Plateau. It is a dominant species in the community that can well adapt to virous environment stress, such as drought and low temperature. Therefore, A. wellbyi. has a potential ecological value for soil and water conservation of drought areas. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of A. wellbyi. that defense drought stress can acquire the key genes for drought resistance breeding of A. wellbyi. and provide a theoretical basis for vegetation restoration of desertification area. However, they remain unclear. Thus, our study compared the transcriptomic characteristics of drought-tolerant "11" and drought-sensitive "6" material of A. wellbyi under drought stress. RESULTS: A total of 4875 upregulated and 4381 downregulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were induced by drought in the tolerant material; however, only 1931 upregulated and 4174 downregulated DEGs were induced by drought in the sensitive material. The photosynthesis and transcriptional regulation differed significantly with respect to the DEGs number and expression level. We found that CDPKs (calmodulin-like domain protein kinases), SOS3 (salt overly sensitive3), MAPKs (mitogen-activated protein kinase cascades), RLKs (receptor like kinase), and LRR-RLKs (repeat leucine-rich receptor kinase) were firstly involved in response to drought stress in drought tolerant A. wellbyi. Positive regulation of genes associated with the metabolism of ABA (abscisic acid), ET (ethylene), and IAA (indole acetic acid) could play a crucial role in the interaction with other transcriptional regulatory factors, such as MYBs (v-myb avian myeloblastosis viral oncogene homolog), AP2/EREBPs (APETALA2/ethylene-responsive element binding protein family), WRKYs, and bHLHs (basic helix-loop-helix family members) and receptor kinases, and regulate downstream genes for defense against drought stress. In addition, HSP70 (heat shock protein70) and MYB73 were considered as the hub genes because of their strong association with other DEGs. CONCLUSIONS: Positive transcriptional regulation and negative regulation of photosynthesis could be associated with better growth performance under drought stress in the drought-tolerant material. In addition, the degradation of sucrose and starch in the tolerant A. wellbyi to alleviate osmotic stress and balance excess ROS. These results highlight the candidate genes that are involved in enhancing the performance of drought-tolerant A. wellbyi and provide a theoretical basis for improving the performance of drought-resistant A. wellbyi.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have changed the landscape of cancer treatment. However, use of ICIs can be limited by inflammatory toxicities referred to as immune-related adverse events (irAEs). ICI-associated acute kidney injury (ICI-associated AKI) affects 3-5% of ICI users. RECENT FINDINGS: With the rapidly growing indication of ICI, knowledge of ICI-associated kidney toxicity has also expanded from case series to large multicentre cohort studies. In this review, we discuss the clinical features, risk factors, clinicopathological correlations and prognosis of ICI-associated AKI from the most recent rigorously conducted retrospective cohort studies. We also discuss recent advances in diagnostic biomarker investigation, treatment and the unique challenge faced in the kidney transplant population. SUMMARY: With more comprehensive understanding of the clinical features and risk factors, ICI-associated AKI is commonly diagnosed clinically, especially given the inherent challenges performing a kidney biopsy in the cancer population; however, this highlights the urgent need for improved noninvasive diagnostic biomarkers to aid diagnosis and prognosis. Prospective studies are needed to better define the optimal treatment of ICI-associated AKI and to minimize the risk of graft loss in patients with kidney transplant who require ICIs.

The development of super-resolution imaging has driven research into biological labeling, new materials' characterization, and nanoscale sensing. Here, we studied the photoinduced charge state conversion of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in nanodiamonds (NDs), which show the potential for multifunction sensing and labeling at the nanoscale. Charge state depletion (CSD) nanoscopy is subsequently demonstrated for the diffraction-unlimited imaging of NDs in biological cells. A resolution of 77 nm is obtained with 50 nm NDs. The depletion laser power of CSD nanoscopy is approximately 1/16 of stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy with the same resolution. The results can be used to improve the spatial resolution of biological labeling and sensing with NDs and other nanoparticles.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease and is often caused by obesity. Currently, moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) are two effective treatments for reducing fat mass in patients with obesity and NAFLD. However, the comparative fat-reducing effects and underlying molecular mechanisms of MICT and HIIT remain unclear. This comprehensive study was performed on male Wistar rats treated with standard diet, high-fat diet, MICT, and HIIT to explore their comparative fat-reducing effects and corresponding molecular mechanisms. HIIT had a greater effect on hepatic vacuolation density and lipid content reduction than MICT, and triglyceride and total cholesterol levels in the serum and the liver demonstrated different sensitivities to different exercise training programs. At the molecular level, both MICT and HIIT altered the processes of fatty acid synthesis, fatty acid transport, fatty acid ß-oxidation, and cholesterol synthesis, wherein the transcriptional and translational levels of signaling molecules peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) regulating fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis were strongly changed. Moreover, the metabolic pathways of amino acids, bile acids, and carbohydrates were also affected according to transcriptome analysis, and the changes in the above-mentioned processes in the HIIT group were greater than those in the MICT group. In combination with the search tool for the retrieval of interacting genes/proteins (STRING) analysis and the role of PPARs in lipid metabolism, as well as the expression pattern of PPARs in the MICT and HIIT groups, the MICT-and HIIT-induced fat loss was mediated by the PPAR pathway, causing feedback responses in fatty acid, steroid, amino acid, bile acid, and carbohydrate metabolism, and HIIT had a better fat-reducing effect, which may be initiated by PPAR-α. This study provides a theoretical basis for targeted therapy of patients with obesity and NAFLD.

Cilia/flagella are structurally conserved and dynamic organelles; their assembly and disassembly are coordinated with the cell cycle and cell differentiation. Several post-translational modifications, including acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation and ubiquitylation, participate in ciliary disassembly. However, the detailed mechanism and the role of ubiquitylation in ciliary disassembly are unclear. This study identified 20 proteins that were ubiquitylated in shortening flagella of Chlamydomonas α-Tubulin was the most abundant ubiquitylated protein and it was labeled with K63 polyubiquitin chains primarily at K304. Expression of an α-tubulin mutant (K304R), which could not be ubiquitylated, decreased the rate of flagellar disassembly and resulted in an enrichment of the mutant form in the axoneme, suggesting that ubiquitylation of α-tubulin is required for the normal kinetics of axonemal disassembly. Immunoprecipitation and glutathione-S-transferase pulldown assays demonstrated that the retrograde intraflagellar transport (IFT) protein, IFT139, interacted with a variety of ubiquitylated proteins, including α-tubulin, suggesting that IFT-A was responsible for transporting ubiquitylated proteins out of the flagella. Our data suggest an important role for ubiquitylation and retrograde IFT in ciliary disassembly. This article has an associated First Person interview with the first author of the paper.

Studies on the biomagnification of short- and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs and MCCPs) in terrestrial ecosystems and their bioamplification during metamorphosis in insects and amphibians are scarce. Therefore, this study sought to characterize the occurrence and trophic dynamics of SCCPs and MCCPs in an insect-dominated terrestrial food web in an e-waste recycling site in South China. Median ∑SCCPs and ∑MCCPs concentrations in the organisms ranged from 2200 to 34â¯000 ng/g lipid weight and from 990 to 19â¯000 ng/g lipid weight, respectively. The homologue profiles of CPs in the predators were distinct from those in insects, presenting more short chain-high chlorinated congeners (C10-12Cl8-10). The trophic magnification factors (TMFs) of ∑SCCPs and ∑MCCPs were 2.08 and 2.45, respectively, indicating biomagnification in the terrestrial food web. A significant positive relationship between the TMFs and octanol-air partition coefficients was observed. TMFs were also positively correlated with chlorination degree but did not correlate with carbon chain length. Nonlinear correlations between metamorphosis-associated bioamplification and the octanol-water partition coefficients of SCCPs and MCCPs were observed for insects, whereas negative linear correlations were observed for amphibians, which suggested species-specific alterations to the chemicals during metamorphosis.

BACKGROUND: Glomerular involvement in rheumatoid arthritis has been known to be associated with treatment side effects from medications and secondary amyloidosis. However, limited basic science and clinical studies have been performed to address the potential disease specific immune-mediated mechanisms causing secondary glomerular pathology, its various types of presentation, and the potential treatments. CASE PRESENTATION: A 41-year-old man with chronic active rheumatoid arthritis presented with nephrotic syndrome and was found to have membranous nephropathy with eosinophilic intracapillary thrombi on renal biopsy. Proteinuria persisted despite complete withdrawal from non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs). Throughout the disease course, he developed cryoglobulinemic vasculitis and pulmonary sarcoidosis, both of which achieved clinical resolution with glucocorticoids. However, only partial improvement was observed in proteinuria with treatment of steroids and Rituximab. CONCLUSION: Our case presented a unique and complicated clinical phenotype of active rheumatoid arthritis, with clinical features of cryoglobulinemic vasculitis, histopathologic features of membranous and cryoglobulinemic nephropathy in the absence of DMARDs use, as well as pulmonary sarcoidosis. We speculate that there is a wider spectrum of glomerular disease in patients with untreated rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, the potential association between rheumatoid arthritis and cryoglobulinemic vasculitis should probably be revisited and requires further studies to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and treatment options.

A disposable needle-type of hybrid electrode was prepared from a core of stainless steel needle whose surface was modified with a 3D nanoporous gold/NiCo2O4 nanowall hybrid structure for electrochemical non-enzymatic glucose detection. This hybrid electrode, best operated at 0.45 V (vs. SCE) in solutions of pH 13 has a linear response in the 0.01 to 21 mM glucose concentration range, a response time of <1 s, and a 1 µM detection limit (at an S/N ratio of 3). The remarkable enhancement compared to the solid gold/NiCo2O4 and stainless steel/NiCo2O4 hybrid electrodes in electrochemical performance is assumed to originate from the good electrical conductivity and large surface area of the hybrid electrode, which enhance the transport of mass and charge during electrochemical reactions. This biosensor was also applied to real sample analysis with little interferences. The electrode is disposable and considered to be a promising tool for non-enzymatic sensing of glucose in a variety of practical situations. Graphical abstract Ultrathin NiCo2O4 nanowalls supported on nanoporous gold that is coated on a stainless steel needle was fabricated for sensitive non-enzymatic amperometric sensing of glucose.
