BACKGROUND: To assess the long-term association between organised colorectal cancer (CRC) screening strategies and CRC-relate mortality. METHODS: We systematically reviewed studies on organised CRC screening through PubMed, Ovid Medline, Embase and Cochrane from the inception. We retrieved characteristics of organised CRC screening from included literature and matched mortality (over 50 years) of those areas from the International Agency for Research on Cancer in May 2023. The variations of mortality were reported via the age-standardised mortality ratio. A random-effects model was used to synthesis results. RESULTS: We summarised 58 organised CRC screening programmes and recorded > 2.7 million CRC-related deaths from 22 countries where rollout screening programmes were performed. The CRC screening strategy with faecal tests (guaiac faecal occult blood test (gFOBT) or faecal immunochemical tests (FIT)) or colonoscopy as the primary screening offer was associated with a 41.8% reduction in mortality, which was higher than those offered gFOBT (4.4%), FIT (16.7%), gFOBT or FIT (16.2%), and faecal tests (gFOBT or FIT) or flexible sigmoidoscopy (16.7%) as primary screening test. The longer duration of screening was associated with a higher reduction in the pooled age-standardised mortality ratio. In particular, the pooled age-standardised mortality ratio became non-significant when the screening of FIT was implemented for less than 5 years. CONCLUSIONS: A CRC screening programme running for > 5 years was associated with a reduction of CRC-related mortality. Countries with a heavy burden of CRC should implement sustainable, organised screening providing a choice between faecal tests and colonoscopy as a preferred primary test.

INTRODUCTION: Emerging evidence supports mindfulness as a potential psychotherapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Individuals with subthreshold PTSD experience significant impairment in their daily life and functioning due to PTSD symptoms, despite not meeting the full diagnostic criteria for PTSD in DSM-5. Mindfulness skills, including non-judgmental acceptance, attentional control and openness to experiences may help alleviate PTSD symptoms by targeting characteristics such as intensified memory processing, dysregulated hyperarousal, avoidance, and thought suppression. This trial aims to test the effects of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) when compared to an active control. METHOD AND ANALYSIS: This 1:1 randomised controlled trial will enroll 160 participants with PTSD symptoms in 2 arms (MBCT vs. Seeking Safety), with both interventions consisting of 8 weekly sessions lasting 2 h each week and led by certified instructors. Assessments will be conducted at baseline (T0), post-intervention (T1), and 3 months post-intervention (T2), with the primary outcome being PTSD symptoms measured by the PTSD checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) at T1. Secondary outcomes include depression, anxiety, attention, experimental avoidance, rumination, mindfulness, and coping skills. Both intention-to-treat and per-protocol analyses will be performed. Mediation analysis will investigate whether attention, experimental avoidance, and rumination mediate the effect of mindfulness on PTSD symptoms. DISCUSSION: The proposed study will assess the effectiveness of MBCT in improving PTSD symptoms. The findings are anticipated to have implications for various areas of healthcare and contribute to the enhancement of existing intervention guidelines for PTSD. BACKGROUND: Overexpression of lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 1 (LPCAT1) has been found in various solid cancers and is associated with disease progression, metastasis, and recurrence. However, the expression pattern of LPCAT1 in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) bone marrow remains unknown. The present study aimed to compare LPCAT1 expression differences in bone marrow samples from AML patients and healthy controls and assess the clinical relevance of LPCAT1 in AML. METHODS AND RESULTS: LPCAT1 expression in bone marrow was significantly lower in AML than in healthy controls predicted by public databases. Furthermore, real-time quantitative PCR (RQ-PCR) validated that LPCAT1 expression in bone marrow was significantly down-regulated in AML compared to healthy controls [0.056 (0.000-0.846) vs 0.253 (0.031-1.000)]. The DiseaseMeth version 2.0 and The Cancer Genome Atlas analysis revealed that the LPCAT1 promoter was hypermethylated in AML, and there was a strong negative correlation between LPCAT1 expression and methylation (R = - 0.610, P < 0.001). RQ-PCR revealed that the frequency of LPCAT1 low expression was lower in the FAB-M4/M5 subtype than in the other subtypes (P = 0.018). The ROC curve revealed that LPCAT1 expression could serve as a potential diagnostic marker for differentiating AML from controls with an area under the ROC curve of 0.819 (95% CI 0.743-0.894, P < 0.001). In cytogenetically normal AML, patients with LPCAT1 low expression had significantly longer overall survival than those without LPCAT1 low expression (median 19 versus 5.5 months, P = 0.036). CONCLUSIONS: LPCAT1 is down-regulated in AML bone marrow, and LPCAT1 down-regulation could be used as a potential biomarker for AML diagnosis and prognosis.

BACKGROUND: Nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) mutations, which occur in 25 - 30% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and 50 - 60% of AML with normal karyotype, have been identified as an important marker for stratification of prog-nosis in AML. This study aimed to establish a new quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, the drop-off droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), for rapid and sensitive detection of NPM1 mutations in AML. METHODS: We established the drop-off ddPCR system and verified its performance. NPM1 mutations were screened in 130 AML patients by drop-off ddPCR and were validated by Sanger sequencing and next-generation sequencing (NGS). Then, the NPM1 mutation burden was dynamically monitored in five patients. RESULTS: The limit of blank (LOB) of drop-off ddPCR established for NPM1 mutation was 3.36 copies/µL, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 5.00 - 5.37 copies/µL in 50 ng DNA, and the sensitivity was about 0.05%, which had good linearity. Drop-off ddPCR identified 33/130 (25.4%) NPM1 mutated cases, consistent with Sanger sequencing. In 18 NPM1 positive cases selected randomly, NGS identified fourteen with type A mutation, two with type D mutation, and two with rare type mutations. The mutation burden of NPM1 mutation analyzed by NGS was consistent with the drop-off ddPCR. The sequential samples were detected for measurable residual disease (MRD) monitoring in 5 patients showed that the NPM1 mutation burden was consistent with clinical remission and recurrence. Compared with traditional ddPCR, drop-off ddPCR was also suitable for MRD monitoring. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we established a drop-off ddPCR method for detecting three common mutations in AML with good sensitivity and repeatability, which can be used to screen mutations in newly diagnosed AML patients and for MRD monitoring after remission to guide treatment.

BACKGROUND Abnormal physiological curvature is one of the symptoms of early cervical spondylosis. An X-ray taken with the patient standing in a natural position can best reflect the real cervical vertebra physiological curvature. The purpose of this research was to study the value of natural-position X-ray in evaluating cervical vertebra physiology curvature before and after conservative treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study included 135 participants of different ages diagnosed with cervical disease and who received conservative treatment for more than 12 months. The natural- and regular-position X-rays were performed before and after treatment. The positive change of D value in Borden's measurement and C2~7 Cobb angle should be recognized as an improvement of cervical vertebra physiology curvature. RESULTS Before treatment, the C2~7 Cobb angle of the regular-position group was larger than that of natural-position group. After treatment, the C2~7 Cobb angle of the natural-position group was larger than that of the regular-position group, and the D value increased after treatment in both groups. The effective rate of cervical physiological curvature of the natural-position group was higher than that of the regular-position group. CONCLUSIONS Natural-position X-ray has greater accuracy in evaluating cervical vertebra physiology curvature before and after conservative treatment compared with regular-position X-ray.

BACKGROUND: The use of online and mobile internet and social media has been increasing in healthcare service delivery. However, there is limited literature on the acceptance and use of online health services for older adults with multimorbidity who require more medical care and assistance. This study aims to explore the use of social media in older adults with multimorbidity in Hong Kong primary care and to assess the feasibility and usage of online health services in this population, including satisfaction, preference, and problems encountered. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study among older adults with multimorbidity conducted between November 2020 and March 2021 in a Hong Kong primary care programme. Online and face-to-face services were offered based on the needs of the participants. Demographic characteristics and health conditions were assessed at baseline. Participants using online services were invited to complete a feedback questionnaire. RESULTS: The study included 752 participants, of which 66.1% use social media every day. Participants who declined to use online services were found to be significantly older, live alone, have lower income, have social security assistance, have greater cognitive decline, and be less depressed (p < 0.05). Non-responders to the online questionnaire had fewer years of education and greater cognitive decline (p < 0.05). The median satisfaction with the online services was 8 (interquartile range: 7, 9), and 14.6% of the participants preferred online more than face-to-face services. Lower education levels, fewer internet connection issues, and more self-efficacy on mobile apps were associated with a higher level of online satisfaction after adjustment (p < 0.05). Fewer internet connection issues and more self-efficacy on mobile apps were associated with participants' preference for online services (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: More than half of Hong Kong older adults with multimorbidity in primary care use social media daily. Internet connection issues can be a significant barrier to the usage of online services in this population. Prior use and training can be beneficial to enhance use and satisfaction in older adults.

Nanoplastics (NPs) are a matter of widespread concern, as they are easily absorbed by a wide variety of organisms and accumulate in biological tissues. While there is evidence that nanoplastics are toxic to various organisms, few studies have investigated the mechanisms underlying the toxicities of NPs with different surface functionalizations to macrophage cells. In this study, mouse mononuclear macrophage (RAW264.7) cells were exposed to polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) with three different surface functionalizations, namely pristine polystyrene (PS), carboxyl-functionalized polystyrene (PS-COOH), and amino-functionalized polystyrene (PS-NH2), to evaluate the cellular endocytosis, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release, cell viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential, apoptosis, and related gene expression. Results showed that all three PS-NPs were endocytosed into cells. However, in the concentration range of 0-100 µg/mL, PS had no effect on cell viability or apoptosis, but it slightly increased cellular ROS and decreased mitochondrial membrane potential. PS-NH2 exhibited the highest cytotoxicity. PS-COOH and PS-NH2 induced ROS production, altered the mitochondrial membrane potential, and caused cell apoptosis regulated by the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. Results also showed that cell membrane damage induced by PS-NH2 is one of the primary mechanisms of its cytotoxicity to RAW264.7 cells. The results of this study clarify the toxicities of PS-NPs with different surface functionalizations to macrophages, thereby improving the identification of immune system risks related to nanoplastics.

BACKGROUND: Dysregulation of inhibitor of differentiation/DNA binding (ID) genes is linked to cancer growth, angiogenesis, invasiveness, metastasis and patient survival. Nevertheless, few investigations have systematically determined the expression and prognostic value of ID genes in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). METHODS: The expression and clinical prognostic value of ID genes in AML were first identified by public databases and further validated by our research cohort. RESULTS: Using public data, the expression of ID1/ID3 was markedly downregulated in AML, and the expression of ID2 was greatly upregulated in AML, whereas ID4 showed no significant difference. Among the ID genes, only ID3 expression may be the most valuable prognostic biomarker in both total AML and cytogenetically normal AML (CN-AML) and especially in CN-AML. Clinically, reduced ID3 expression was greatly associated with higher white blood cell counts, peripheral blood/bone marrow blasts, normal karyotypes and intermediate cytogenetic risk. In addition, low ID3 expression was markedly related to FLT3 and NPM1 mutations as well as wild-type TP53. Despite these associations, multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that ID3 expression was an independent risk factor affecting overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS) in CN-AML patients. Biologically, a total of 839 mRNAs/lncRNAs and 72 microRNAs were found to be associated with ID3 expression in AML. Importantly, the expression of ID3 with discriminative value in AML was further confirmed in our research cohort. CONCLUSION: The bioinformatics analysis and experimental verification demonstrate that low ID3 expression independently affects OS and DFS in patients with CN-AML, which might be seen as a potential prognostic indicator in CN-AML.

Iodine radioisotope, as one of the most important fission products of uranium, may cause severe damage to human health when it is accidentally discharged into the environment. Hence, efficient removal of radioactive iodine is one of the most critical issues for both used nuclear fuel (UNF) reprocessing and environmental remediation. In this work, three metal-organic gels (MOGs) were introduced for iodine removal. The presented zirconium-based MOGs, namely, CWNU, CWNU-NH2, and CWNU-2NH2, were prepared via moderate solvothermal reactions. These MOGs all exhibit excellent chemical stability and reusability, marked iodine sorption capability, and favorable machinability, which can even rival commercial ones. The sorption capacities are determined to be 3.36, 4.10, and 4.20 g/g, respectively. The increased amount of amino group is considered to be responsible for the elevated iodine sorption capacity and kinetics, as confirmed by combined sorption studies and XPS analysis. The presented work sheds light on the utilization of MOGs for radioiodine capture.

RESUMO

In recent years, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have received widespread attention owing to their non-toxicity, sustainability, excellent photostability, and intrinsic photoluminescence properties. In particular, CQDs have attracted considerable interest for visible-light-driven photocatalysis because of their excellent electron transfer characteristics and high light capture efficiency. Many studies have reported CQDs/photocatalyst composite systems constructed to make full use of the solar spectrum, improving the ability of photocatalytic materials to degrade organic pollutants. Here, we review the recent research on CQDs-based photocatalysts, and their ability to remove environmental pollutants, with a special emphasis on degradation mechanisms. Several improvements in the catalytic response of CQDs to visible light are also included. In addition, we discuss the aspects that should be considered to construct composite materials based on CQD characteristics and the potential applications of CQD-based photocatalysts for efficient utilization of visible light.

BACKGROUND: Previously, we reported the expression of DLX4 isoforms (BP1 and DLX7) in myeloid leukemia, but the functional role of DLX4 isoforms remains poorly understood. In the work described herein, we further determined the underlying role of DLX4 isoforms in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) leukemogenesis. METHODS: The expression and methylation of DLX4 isoforms were detected by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and real-time quantitative methylation-specific PCR (RT-qMSP) in patients with CML. The functional role of DLX4 isoforms was determined in vitro and in vivo. The molecular mechanism of DLX4 isoforms in leukemogenesis was identified based on chromatin immunoprecipitation with high-throughput sequencing (ChIP-Seq)/assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with high-throughput sequencing (ATAC-Seq) and RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq). RESULTS: BP1 expression was increased in patients with CML with unmethylated promoter, but DLX7 expression was decreased with hypermethylated promoter. Functionally, overexpression of BP1 increased the proliferation rate of K562 cells with S/G2 promotion, whereas DLX7 overexpression reduced the proliferation rate of K562 cells with G1 arrest. Moreover, K562 cells with BP1 overexpression increased the tumorigenicity in NCG mice, whereas K562 cells with DLX7 overexpression decreased the tumorigenicity. Mechanistically, a total of 91 genes including 79 messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and 12 long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) were discovered by ChIP-Seq and RNA-Seq as direct downstream targets of BP1. Among the downstream genes, knockdown of RREB1 and SGMS1-AS1 partially revived the proliferation caused by BP1 overexpression in K562 cells. Similarly, using ATAC-Seq and RNA-Seq, a total of 282 genes including 151 mRNA and 131 lncRNAs were identified as direct downstream targets of DLX7. Knockdown of downstream genes PTPRB and NEAT1 partially revived the proliferation caused by DLX7 overexpression in K562 cells. Finally, we also identified and validated a SGMS1-AS1/miR-181d-5p/SRPK2 competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network caused by BP1 overexpression in K562 cells. CONCLUSIONS: The current findings reveal that DNA methylation-mediated differential expression of DLX4 isoforms BP1 and DLX7 plays opposite functions in leukemogenesis. BP1 plays an oncogenic role in leukemia development, whereas DLX7 acts as a tumor suppressor gene. These results suggest DLX4 as a therapeutic target for antileukemia therapy.

BACKGROUND: Meaning in life could be of clinical importance in stimulating healthy and preventive behaviors. The study aimed to investigate the association between meaning in life and preventive healthcare use among Chinese adults, and to assess their age and gender differences in the association. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among 1444 adults aged 18-64 years in February 2020 in China. Logistic regression models were employed to examine the association of meaning in life with preventive health checkups and assess their age and gender differences. RESULTS: The mean score of meaning in life was 5.801 (Standard Deviation = 1.349) out of 7. Each unit increase on the level of meaning in life was associated with 12.2% higher likelihood of using preventive health checkups (any type) (adjusted odds ratio 1.122, 95% confidence interval 1.015-1.241) after adjustment for sociodemographic factors, comorbidity and other psychological health factors. Meaning in life was significantly associated with the uses of X-ray (1.125, 1.010-1.253), B-ultrasound (1.176, 1.058-1.306), and blood testing (1.152, 1.042-1.274). The associations between meaning in life and these types of preventive healthcare increased with age, but there were no gender differences in these associations. CONCLUSION: Higher meaning in life was independently related to more preventive health checkups. Strategies to strengthen health education and interventions to improve experience of meaning in life might be an important component to increase preventive healthcare use in China.

OBJECTIVES: Depressive symptoms are common among mild cognitive impairment (MCI) patients. It is unknown how different the effects on depressive symptoms are among various pharmacological MCI interventions. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of non-pharmacological MCI interventions on depressive symptoms among MCI patients. METHODS: A systematic review and network meta-analysis was conducted on randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing the effect of different non-pharmacological MCI interventions on changes in depressive symptoms among MCI patients. RCTs were identified from MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and PsycARTICLES. Results were summarized as standardized mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). The surface under the cumulative ranking (SUCRA) was used to rank the effect of different interventions. RESULTS: Twenty-two RCTs were included in the network meta-analysis. Compared with non-active control, cognition-based intervention (SMD=-0.25, 95% CI: -0.46, -0.04) and physical exercise (SMD=-0.33, 95% CI: -0.56, -0.10) had significant positive effects to reduce depressive symptoms. Health education, psychosocial intervention, and the combination of physical exercise and cognition-based intervention had non-significant overall effects. The SUCRA demonstrated that physical exercise had the highest SUCRA for the reduction in depression symptoms (0.815). In subgroup analysis, health education, cognition-based intervention, physical exercise, and the combination of physical exercise and cognition-based intervention showed significant longer-term effects (6-12 months). CONCLUSION: Physical exercise and cognition-based intervention were effective interventions for depressive symptoms in MCI patients. This study can provide additional evidence for healthcare providers to make decisions for selecting available and appropriate interventions for MCI patients.

We successfully designed and prepared hierarchical Ni3S2nanorod@nanosheet arrays on three-dimensional Ni foam via facile hydrothermal sulfuration. We conducted a series of time- and temperature-dependent experiments to determine the Ostwald ripening process of hierarchical Ni3S2nanorod@nanosheet arrays. The rationally hierarchical architecture creates an excellent supercapacitor electrode for Ni3S2nanorod@nanosheet arrays. The areal capacitance of this array reaches 5.5 F cm-2at 2 mA cm-2, which is much higher than that of Ni3S2nanosheet arrays (1.5 F cm-2). The corresponding asymmetric supercapacitor exhibits a wide potential window of 1.6 V and energy density up to 1.0 Wh cm-2when the proposed array is utilized as the positive electrode with activated carbon as the negative electrode. This electrochemical performance enhancement is attributable to the hierarchical structure and synergistic cooperation of macroporous Ni foam and well-aligned Ni3S2nanorod@nanosheet arrays. Our results represent a promising approach to the preparation of hierarchical nanorod@nanosheet arrays as high-performing electrochemical capacitors.

Commercial cultivation of eukaryotic microalgae has so far employed a unicellular form of species only (e.g., Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Dunaliella salina, and Haematococcus pluvialis). In this study, we assessed the feasibility of using the filamentous eukaryotic microalga Klebsormidium sp. LGX80 as a new cultivar for biomass and lipid production. The effects of different forms and concentrations of nitrogen on growth and lipid production of Klebsormidium sp. LGX80 were studied by using a glass column (ø4.5 × 60 cm) photobioreactor under laboratory conditions. Growth and lipid production of the new strain were further evaluated in an outdoor pilot-scale tubular photobioreactor. The results showed that when supplied with urea as a source of nitrogen Klebsormidium sp. LGX80 yielded a final biomass concentration of 8.49 ± 0.10 g · L-1 in which a cellular lipid content was 59.2 ± 0.4% DW. Under such conditions, the biomass and lipid productivities were 471.7 ± 5.9 and 248.1 ± 0.0 mg · L-1  · d-1 , respectively. Fatty acid analysis revealed that the main fatty acids of Klebsormidium sp. LGX80 were palmitic acid (C16:0), linoleic acid (C18:2ω6), and linolenic acid (C18:3ω3), of which linoleic acid (C18:2ω6) accounted for up to 67.5 ± 0.1% of total fatty acids. When grown outdoors in a 13,000-L tubular photobioreactor with an initial nitrogen concentration of 3 mM urea, Klebsormidium sp. LGX80 reached the highest biomass concentration of 2.63 ± 0.09 g · L-1 with the cells containing 38.0 ± 0.5% lipids (% DW), resulting in the volumetric biomass and lipid productivities of 147.2 ± 3.6 and 37.9 ± 0.9 mg · L-1  d-1 , respectively. The results of light:dark cycle experiment showed that a durative and prolonged light irradiation hindered the biosynthesis of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in the cells, but promoted the carotenoid accumulation. These results suggested that Klebsormidium sp. LGX80 can be a potential oleaginous filamentous microalga for commercial production of microalgal oils.

BACKGROUND: Both brain abscess(BA)and glioblastoma (GBM) are common causative pathologies of intraparenchymal ring-enhancing lesions. Advanced MR sequences such as diffusion weighted image (DWI) were often used to increase distinguishability of both entities. PURPOSE: To evaluate the value of asphericity (ASP) from conventional T1-weighted MR images in differentiating BA from morphologically similar ring-enhancing GBM. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty-one BA and twenty-nine GBM were retrospectively included in this study. Each region of interest (ROI) was delineated twice with the software of ITK-SNAP on the contrast-enhanced T1 images by two observers. ASP was calculated to define the relative deviation of the ROI's shape from a sphere. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) for inter-observer and intra-observer were calculated. The diagnostic capabilities of ASP and conventional volume (VOL) of ROI were evaluated with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. In addition, areas under the ROC curves of ASP and VOL were compared. RESULTS: ICC of intra-observer and inter-observer were 0.99 (95% confidence interval, [CI] 0.97-0.99) and 0.98 (0.95-0.99), respectively. Both ASP and VOL showed significant difference between BA and GBM. The mean ASP values for BA and GBM were 66.3±7.8 and 14.7±1.8, respectively. The mean VOL value of BA was also larger than that of GBM (47.2±7.4 vs. 20.7±1.5 mm3). The mean AUC of ASP and VOL were 0.977 (95% CI 0.944-1) and 0.86 (95% CI 0.746-0.974), respectively. The AUC of ASP was significantly higher than that of VOL (p=0.04). The optimal cut point values of ASP and VOL were 24.39 and 24.86 mm3, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: ASP derived from routine MRI is useful in differentiating BA from GBM.

BACKGROUND This study assessed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of acute and chronic partial anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears using maximum knee flexion in the lateral decubitus position compared with routine knee positioning in 204 patients at a single center. MATERIAL AND METHODS Based on the time interval from injury to MRI examination, the 204 patients in this study were divided into 3 groups: subacute (6 weeks to 3 months), intermediate (3 months to 1 year), and chronic (>1 year). All patients received both routine MRI (MRI R) and maximum knee flexion in the lateral decubitus position MRI (MRI S) examination, followed by knee arthroscopy. Three radiologists blinded to patient groups evaluated the MRI scans and made a diagnosis. Results of knee arthroscopy were referenced as the criterion standard. The sensitivity and specificity of MRI R and MRI S groups were calculated and compared. RESULTS The MRI S diagnostic rate was comparable to that of knee arthroscopy. MRI S had significantly higher sensitivity than MRI R for partial ACL tears, especially in the intermediate group (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS MRI of partial ACL tears using maximum knee flexion in the lateral decubitus position improved the diagnostic rate relative to routine MRI examination, particularly in patients in the intermediate group.

OBJECTIVE: To describe and assess the repair technique and perioperative management for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak resulting from extensive anterior skull base fracture via extradural anterior skull base approach. METHODS: This was a retrospective review conducted at the Department of Neurosurgery of the Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital from January 2015 to April 2020. Patients with traumatic CSF rhinorrhea resulting from extensive anterior skull base fracture treated surgically via extended extradural anterior skull base approach were included in this study. The data of medical and radiological records, surgical approaches, repair techniques, peritoperative management, surgical outcome and postoperative follow-up were analyzed. Surgical repair techniques were tailored to the condition of associated injuries of the scalp, bony and dura injuries and associated intracranial lesions. Patients were followed up for the outcome of CSF leak and surgical complications. Data were presented as frequency and percent. RESULTS: Thirty-five patients were included in this series. The patients' mean age was 33 years (range 11-71 years). Eight patients were treated surgically within 2 weeks; while the other 27 patients, with prolonged or recurrent CSF rhinorrhea, received the repair surgery at 17 days to 10 years after the initial trauma. The mean overall length of follow-up was 23 months (range 3-65 months). All the patients suffered from frontobasal multiple fractures. The basic repair tenet was to achieve watertight seal of the dura. The frontal pericranial flap alone was used in 20 patients, combined with temporalis muscle and/or its facia in 10 patients. Free fascia lata graft was used instead in the rest 5 patients. No CSF leak was found in all the patients at discharge. There was no surgical mortality in this series. Bilateral anosmia was the most common complication. At follow-up, no recurrent CSF leak or meningitis occurred. No patients developed mucoceles, epidural abscess or osteomyelitis. One patient ultimately required ventriculoperitoneal shunt because of progressive hydrocephalus. CONCLUSION: Traumatic CSF rhinorrhea associated with extensive anterior skull base fractures often requires aggressive treatment via extended intracranial extradural approach. Vascularized tissue flaps are ideal grafts for cranial base reconstruction, either alone or in combination with temporalis muscle and its fascia---fascia lata sometimes can be opted as free autologous graft. The approach is usually reserved for patients with traumatic CSF rhinorrhea in complex frontobasal injuries.

Accumulating studies have proved EZH2 dysregulation mediated by mutation and expression in diverse human cancers including AML. However, the expression pattern of EZH2 remains controversial in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). EZH1/2 expression and mutation were analysed in 200 patients with AML. EZH2 expression was significantly decreased in AML patients compared with normal controls but not for EZH1 expression. EZH2 mutation was identified three of the 200 AML patients (1.5%, 3/200), whereas none of the patients harboured EZH1 mutation (0%, 0/200). EZH2 expression and mutation were significantly associated with -7/del(7) karyotypes. Moreover, lower EZH2 expression was associated with older age, higher white blood cells, NPM1 mutation, CEBPA wild-type and WT1 wild-type. Patients with EZH2 mutation showed shorter overall survival (OS) and leukaemia-free survival (LFS) than patients without EHZ2 mutation after receiving autologous or allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). However, EZH2 expression has no effect on OS and LFS of AML patients. Notably, in EZH2 low group, patients undergone HSCT had significantly better OS and LFS compared with patients only received chemotherapy, whereas no significant difference was found in OS and LFS between chemotherapy and HSCT patients in EZH2 high group. Collectively, EZH2 dysregulation caused by mutation and under-expression identifies specific subtypes of AML EZH2 dysregulation may be acted as potential biomarkers predicting prognosis and guiding the treatment choice between transplantation and chemotherapy.

Antimony (Sb) anode has attracted increasing attention given its high theoretical capacity and suitable working potential. Nonetheless, its practical application is largely hindered by huge volume changes during the cyclic process, resulting in unsatisfactory long-term cycled stabilities at high current density. In this work, large-scale ultrafine Sb nanoparticles are functionally designed to encapsulate into a 3D carbon microfiber framework (CMF) via a scalable electrospinning approach followed by a thermal treatment process. This fabrication strategy effectively avoids the change in the volume of the Sb anode and provides a fast conductive network to serve as an efficient 3D e/Li+ transport pathway. Benefiting from this novel structural design, an ultrafine Sb nanoparticles@carbon microfiber framework (U-Sb-NPs@CMF) composite anode used for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) delivers a high reversible capacity of 622 mAh g-1 after 200 cycles at 0.5 A g-1 and 507 mAh g-1 after 2000 cycles at 2 Ag-1 and a high-capacity retention of 350 mAh g-1 even after 5000 long-term cycles. These outstanding charge-discharge performances suggest that the U-Sb-NPs@CMF composite is a promising candidate for an anode material in the application of LIBs.
