RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The procession of preadipocytes differentiation into mature adipocytes involves multiple cellular and signal transduction pathways. Recently. a seirces of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), including circular RNAs (circRNAs) were proved to play important roles in regulating differentiation of adipocytes. RESULT: In this study, we aimed to identificate the potential circRNAs in the early and late stages of goat intramuscular adipocytes differentiation. Using bioinformatics methods to predict their biological functions and map the circRNA-miRNA interaction network. Over 104 million clean reads in goat intramuscular preadipocytes and adipocytes were mapped, of which16 circRNAs were differentially expressed (DE-circRNAs). Furthermore, we used real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) technology to randomly detect the expression levels of 8 circRNAs among the DE-circRNAs, and our result verifies the accuracy of the RNA-seq data. From the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis of the DE-circRNAs, two circRNAs, circ_0005870 and circ_0000946, were found in Focal adhesion and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. Then we draw the circRNA-miRNA interaction network and obtained the miRNAs that possibly interact with circ_0005870 and circ_0000946. Using TargetScan, miRTarBase and miR-TCDS online databases, we further obtained the mRNAs that may interact with the miRNAs, and generated the final circRNA-miRNA-mRNA interaction network. Combined with the following GO (Gene Ontology) and KEGG enrichment analysis, we obtained 5 key mRNAs related to adipocyte differentiation in our interaction network, which are FOXO3(forkhead box O3), PPP2CA (protein phosphatase 2 catalytic subunit alpha), EEIF4E (eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4), CDK6 (cyclin dependent kinase 6) and ACVR1 (activin A receptor type 1). CONCLUSIONS: By using Illumina HiSeq and online databases, we generated the final circRNA-miRNA-mRNA interaction network that have valuable functions in adipocyte differentiation. Our work serves as a valuable genomic resource for in-depth exploration of the molecular mechanism of ncRNAs interaction network regulating adipocyte differentiation.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Dysphagia is one of the most common complications of anterior cervical spine surgery. Local steroid was widely used to reduce the postoperative swallowing pain. However, the effect of local steroid application on dysphagia after anterior cervical spine surgery was still uncertain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We searched Medline (PubMed), Embase and the Cochrane Library on July 27, 2021 for studies investigating the effect of local steroid application on dysphagia after anterior cervical spine surgery from their date of inception to 2021. The relative risk or weighted mean difference with 95% confidence interval was recorded as a summary statistic consist of postoperative dysphagia, swallowing VAS scores, SWAL-QOL scores, PSTSI, and steroid related complications. RESULTS: This meta-analysis included 7 RCT studies involving 254 patients in the steroid group and 232 patients in the placebo group. Results showed local steroid group had less patients with dysphagia, lower swallowing VAS scores and less severe of prevertebral soft-tissue edema on the fourth day after surgery. No significant difference in non-fusion rate between the two groups was observed. And all included studies had no serious steroid related complications reported. CONCLUSIONS: The use of local steroid in anterior cervical spine surgery could reduce the early postoperative dysphagia without serious steroid related complication. However, the safety of local steroid application still need further studies with larger samples.

RESUMO

In response to the invasion of exogenous microorganisms, one of the defence strategies of the immune system is to produce antibodies. Cartilaginous fish is among those who evolved the earliest humoral immune system that utilizes immunoglobulin-type antibodies. The cartilaginous fish antibodies fall into three categories: IgW, IgM, and IgNAR. The shark Immunoglobulin Novel Antigen Receptor (IgNAR) constitutes disulfide-bonded dimers of two protein chains, similar to the heavy chain of mammalian IgGs. Shark IgNAR is the primary antibody of a shark's adaptive immune system with a serum concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. Its structure comprises of one variable (V) domain (VNAR) and five constant (C1 -C5) domains in the secretory form. VNARs are classified into several subclasses based on specific properties such as the quantity and position of additional non-canonical cysteine (Cys) residues in the VNAR. The VDJ recombination in IgNAR comprises various fragments; one variable component, three diverse sections, one joining portion, and a solitary arrangement of constant fragments framed in each IgNAR gene cluster. The re-arrangement happens just inside this gene cluster bringing about a VD1D2D3J segment. Therefore, four re-arrangement procedures create the entire VNAR space. IgNAR antibody can serve as an excellent diagnostic, therapeutic, and research tool because it has a smaller size, high specificity for antigen-binding, and perfect stability. The domain characterization, structural features, types, diversity and therapeutic applications of IgNAR molecules are highlighted in this review. It would be helpful for further research on IgNAR antibodies acting as an essential constituent of the adaptive immune system and a potential therapeutic agent.

RESUMO

A two-dimensional Ni-heteroatom-based metal-organic framework (MOF) array was directly grown on C paper (Ni-MOF-A/CP) via one-pot solvothermal reaction. According to the strategy for MOF self-assembly on C paper, Ni-MOFs were also synthesized on Ni foam (Ni-MOF/NF) with different sizes and morphologies. The newly resulting MOFs with ternary (Ni, S, and N) active sites exhibited enhanced activity toward oxygen evolution reaction [e.g., Ni-MOF-A/CP: E(5 mA cm-2) = 333 mV and a low Tafel slope of 80 mV dec-1].

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate the pathogenesis and find a better prophylactic method of acquired heterotopic ossification (HO). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the first part, we designed the brain-traumatic/burn/tenotomy rat model and testified its efficacy as HO model. 44 rats were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. After operation, the bilateral tendons of 2 rats were collected at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th weeks to determine the expression levels of p65. Additionally, the remaining rats were exposed to X-Ray examination at the 10th week. In the second part, 124 rats were randomly divided into four groups based on the administration dosage of Ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (PDTC). Then, three rats of each group were euthanized every week in the first seven weeks to collect tendon to detect the expression levels of p65 by qRT-PCR and Western Blot. The remaining rats were exposed to X-Ray examination at the 10th week to assess the size of HO before being euthanized for HE staining. RESULTS: The success rate of Brain-traumatic/Burn/Tenotomy model was 100%. Pharmacologic inhibition of Nf-ҝb signaling pathway by PDTC could significantly reduce the expression levels of p53 and the size of HO, and the reduction was most significant in the 0.6mg dosage group. CONCLUSIONS: Brain-traumatic/Burn/Tenotomy model was highly reliable HO model. Inhibition of Nf-ҝb signaling pathway by PDTC could significantly reduce HO formation, and the most effective concentration was 6 mg/ml for local injection.

RESUMO

The present study aimed to identify the structural succession of the bacteria community in soil during long-term continuous cotton cropping and its relationship with continuous cropping obstacles in Xinjiang, China. High-throughput sequencing was used to analyze and compare the composition of the bacterial community in the soil at the cotton root zone after years of continuous cotton cropping and crop rotation over 30 years of cultivation. Cotton cultivation increased the structural diversity of the bacterial community, among which the populations of Actinobacteria, Acidobacteria, Firmicutes, Nitrospirae, and Chloroflexi changed considerably. A 0-year sample and samples after continuous short- and long-term cropping, along with some with crop rotation, were gathered into three individual clusters. The findings of the rotation sample were similar to those of the sample of continuous long-term cropping. Cropping is the main cause of changes in the structure of the bacteria community; however, the new structure formed under continued duress of both long-term cotton cultivation and the associated farming methods gradually stabilizes after 10 years of repeated fluctuations. Crop rotation can lead to the rapid recovery of some species of soil bacteria.

RESUMO

Formaldehyde is one of the most dangerous air pollutants, which can cause sick building syndrome. Thus, it is very crucial to precisely determine formaldehyde with a low cost and simple operation. In this paper, a smartphone-based microfluidic colorimetric sensor is devised for gaseous formaldehyde determination with high sensitivity and selectivity. Specifically, a novel microfluidic chip is proposed based on the 4-aminohydrazine-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole (AHMT) method to determine formaldehyde; the chip consists of two reagent reservoirs, one reaction reservoir and a mixing column. In this design to prevent the fluid from flowing out while letting the gas molecule in, a hydrophobic porous poly tetra fluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane is put on the top of the reaction reservoir. Using the microfluidic chip sensor, a smartphone-based formaldehyde determination system is developed, which makes the measuring process automated and simple. As per the experiment results, the limit-of-detection (LOD) of the system is as low as 0.01 ppm, which is much lower than the maximum exposure concentration (0.08 ppm) recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Moreover, the sensor is hardly affected by acetaldehyde, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or acidic-alkaline, which shows great selectivity. Finally, the performance of the proposed sensor is verified by using it for the determination of formaldehyde in a newly decorated house.

RESUMO

Enalaprilat (Ena.), an angiotensin II (Ang II) converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), can produce some therapeutic effects on hypertension, ventricular hypertrophy and myocardial remodeling in clinic, but its precise mechanism, especially its signaling pathways remain elusive. In this study, cardiac fibroblasts (CFb) was isolated by the trypsin digestion method; a BrdU proliferation assay was adopted to determine cell proliferation; an immunofluorescence assay was used to measure intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS); immunocytochemistry staining and Western blotting assay were used to detect phosphorylated p38 mitogen activated protein kinase (p-p38MAPK) and transforming growth factor-ß(1) (TGF-ß(1)) protein expression, respectively. The results showed that Ang II (10(-7) M) stimulated the cardiac fibroblast proliferation which was inhibited by NAC (an antioxidant), SB203580 (a p38MAPK inhibitor) or enalaprilat; Ang II caused an burst of intracellular ROS level within thirty minutes, an increase in p-p38MAPK (3.6-fold of that in the control group), as well as an elevation of TGF-ß(1) meantime; NAC, an antioxidant, and enalaprilat treatment attenuated cardiac fibroblast proliferation induced by Ang II and decreased ROS and p-p38MAPK protein levels in rat cardiac fibroblast; SB203580 lowered TGF-ß(1) protein expression in rats' CFb in a dose-dependent manner. It could be concluded that enalaprilat can inhibit the cardiac fibroblast proliferation induced by Ang II via blocking ROS/P38MAPK/TGF-ß(1) signaling pathways and the study provides a theoretical proof for the application of ACEIs in treating myocardial fibrosis and discovering the primary mechanism through which ACEIs inhibit CFb proliferation.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) halide perovskite material is characterized by a mixed conducting behavior that possesses both electronic and ionic conductivity. The study on the influence of the light on ion migration in the 2D perovskite is helpful to improve the performance of perovskite-based optoelectronic devices. Here, we constructed an exfoliated 2D perovskite/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) heterostructure optical synapse, in which CNTs can be used as nanoprobes to qualitatively observe the ion aggregation or dissipation process in 2D perovskite, and found that light significantly changes the memory curve of the reconfigurable optical synapses. Through the molecular dynamic simulation, the dynamic process of ion migration in the heterostructure was simulated and the electrostatic interaction effect of nonequilibrium charge distribution of CNTs on iodide ion was demonstrated. Finally, an effective light-controlled process was realized through the synapses, which in situ regulated the performance of the weight-value discretized BP (WD-BP) neural network. This work lays a foundation for the future development of intelligent nano-optoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine expression profiles of relevant genes in the early stages of post-traumatic heterotopic ossification (HO) in a rat model of Achilles tenotomy. METHODS: A total of 80 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to two groups: the HO group and the control group. Tenotomy was performed in the Achilles tendon of the rats in the HO group, and no intervention was conducted in the control group. On the 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 14th days after the operation, 8 rats were taken from each group at each time point, and the Achilles tendon and surrounding tissue specimens were collected. Gene expressions of TGF-ß, BMP, GDF, IL, and MMP families as well as TNF-α, HIF-1α chordin, gremlin, noggin, and NODAL were analyzed by qRT-PCR. The relevant genes that were highly expressed at different time points were screened, and immunohistochemical staining was then used to verify their expression. At the 10th week, HO formation was explored by radiographic and histological examination in the remaining 8 rats of each group. RESULTS: Both the radiographic and histological analyses indicated that all the rats developed HO in the HO group (100%), whereas no HO occurred in the control group. Surrounding tissues obtained from the HO group showed significantly higher gene expressions of TGF-ß1, BMP-1, IL1ß, HIF-1α, and MMP-2 but lower expressions of BMP-4, GDF-8, and TNF-α compared with the control group. In addition, immunohistochemical staining confirmed the higher protein expression levels of relevant genes in the HO group. CONCLUSION: TGF-ß1, BMP-1, IL-1ß, HIF-1α, MMP-2, BMP4, GDF-8, and TNF-α may be associated with the formation of traumatic HO; and BMP4, GDF-8, and TNF-α may play a protective role in the early stage of HO. In this study, we investigated the expression levels of the related cytokines in the early stages of traumatic HO in the Achilles tendon tenotomy rat model to better understand the pathogenesis of HO.

RESUMO

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a flavivirus transmitted by mosquitoes that causes severe encephalitis in humans and animals. It has been suggested that AXL, a transmembrane protein, can promote the replication of various flaviviruses, such as dengue (DENV), Zika (ZIKV), and West Nile (WNV) viruses. However, the effect of AXL on JEV infection has not yet been determined. In the present study, we demonstrate that AXL is down-regulated after JEV infection in the late stage. JEV NS2B-3 protein specifically interacted with AXL, and promoted AXL degradation through the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. AXL-degradation increased cell apoptosis by disrupting phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt signal transduction. In addition, the degradation of AXL promoted JEV release to supernatant, whereas the virus in the cell lysates decreased. The supplementation of AXL ligand Gas6 inhibited the JEV-mediated degradation of AXL. Altogether, we discover a new function of NS2B-3 during the process of JEV replication, and provide a new insight into the interactions between JEV and cell hosts.

RESUMO

The Japanese encephalitis serogroup of the neurogenic Flavivirus has a specific feature that expresses a non-structural protein NS1' produced through a programmed -1 ribosomal frameshifting (-1 PRF). Herein, C19orf66, a novel member of interferon-stimulated gene (ISG) products, exhibited significant activity of antagonizing Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infection. Overexpression of C19orf66 in 293T cells significantly inhibited JEV replication, while knock-down of endogenous C19orf66 in HeLa cells and A549 cells significantly increased virus replication. Notably, C19orf66 had an inhibitory effect on frameshift production of JEV NS1'. The inhibition was more significant when C19orf66 and JEV NS1-NS2A were co-expressed in the 293T cells. Both C19orf66-209 and C19orf66-Zincmut did not significantly change the NS1' to NS1 ratio and had weaker antiviral effects than C19orf66. Similarly, C19orf66-209 and C19orf66-Zincmut had no significant effect on the expression of the JEV NS3 protein, whose expression was down-regulated by C19orf66 via the lysosome-dependent pathway. These findings suggest that C19orf66 may possess at least two different mechanisms of antagonizing JEV infection. This study identified C19orf66 as a novel interferon-stimulated gene product that can inhibit JEV replication by targeting -1 PRF and the NS3 protein. The study provides baseline information for the future development of broad-spectrum antiviral agents against JEV.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: c-erbB2, a proto-oncogene coding epidermal growth factor receptor-like receptor, also as a chemosensitivity/prognosis marker for gynecologic cancer, may be involved in initiation of growth of rat primordial follicles. The aim of the present study is to investigate the role and signal pathway of c-erbB2 in onset of rat primordial follicle development. METHODS: The expression of c-erbB2 mRNA and protein in neonatal ovaries cultured 4 and 8 days with/without epidermal growth factor (EGF) were examined by in situ hybridization, RT-PCR and western blot. The function of c-erbB2 in the primordial folliculogenesis was abolished by small interfering RNA transfection. Furthermore, MAPK inhibitor PD98059 and PKC inhibitor calphostin were used to explore the possible signaling pathway of c-erbB2 in primordial folliculogenesis. RESULTS: The results showed that c-erbB2 mRNA was expressed in ooplasm and the expression of c-erbB2 decreased after transfection with c-erbB2 siRNA. Treatment with EGF at 50 ng/ml significantly increased c-erbB2 expression and primary and secondary follicle formation in ovaries. However, this augmenting effect was remarkably inhibited by c-erbB2 siRNA transfection. Furthermore, folliculogenesis offset was blocked by calphostin (5 x 10(-4) mmol/L) and PD98059 (5 x 10(-2) mmol/L), but both did not down-regulate c-erbB2 expression. In contrast, the expressions of p-ERK and p-PKC were decreased obviously by c-erbB2 siRNA transfection. CONCLUSIONS: c-erbB2 initiates rat primordial follicle growth via PKC and MAPK pathways, suggesting an important role of c-erbB2 in rat primordial follicle initiation and development.

RESUMO

The large-scale long-term plantation of cotton in the Xinjiang region has been accompanied by a regular and wide outbreak of soil-borne fungal diseases such as verticillium wilt, which significantly damaged the local cotton industry. High-throughput sequencing data showed that the cotton field cultivation management measures pose a significant influence upon the original ecological soil fungal community structure. During long-term continuous cropping of cotton, a new soil fungal community structure emerges after several repeated adjustments over five years. The number of verticillium wilt pathogens in the soil increased rapidly with prolonged continuous cropping time, reaching a maximum at around the 10th y; moreover, the abundance of the verticillium wilt pathogen only serves as one of numerous essential factors for disease occurrence. The fungal community structure and the abundance of verticillium wilt pathogens in local cotton fields are gradually formed under joint effects of year-long continuous cropping and supporting cultivation management measures.

RESUMO

Influenza is a major medically attended respiratory illness. The impact of influenza on morbidity and mortality is particularly high in the elderly. Immunosenescence attenuates the immune response of influenza vaccine in the elderly. High-dose influenza vaccine contains 60 µg of hemagglutinin per strain, four times more compared with standard-dose (SD) influenza vaccine. This study is a phase I clinical trial investigating the immunogenicity and safety of the GC3114, high-dose, quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (HD-QIV) in healthy adults aged 19-64 years during the 2017-2018 season. Seroprotection rates of HD-QIV were 100.0% for A/H1N1, 96.67% for A/H3N2, 83.33% for B/Yamagata, and 96.67% for B/Victoria. Seroconversion rate for A/H1N1, A/H3N2, B/Yamagata, and B/Victoria strains were 86.67%, 90.0%, 53.33%, and 53.33%, respectively, in the HD-QIV group. The post-/pre-vaccination geometric mean titer ratio (GMTR) was 15.28 for A/H1N1, 8.19 for A/H3N2, 3.56 for B/Yamagata, and 3.03 for B/Victoria in the HD-QIV group. Seroconversion rate and post-/pre-vaccination GMTR for A/H3N2 were significantly higher in the HD-QIV group than in the SD-QIV group (control). No serious adverse events were reported. In conclusion, GC3114 was safe, well-tolerated, and immunogenic in healthy adults. Clinical Trials Identifier: NCT03357263.

RESUMO

The complete mitogenome sequence of the Ussuri shrew (Sorex mirabilis) was determined using long PCR. The genome was 17,315 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, one origin of L strand replication, and one control region. The overall base composition of the heavy strand is A (32.6%), C (25.2%), T (28.8%), and G (13.4%). The base compositions present clearly the A-T skew, which is most obviously in the control region and protein-coding genes. The extended termination-associated sequence domain, the central conserved domain and the conserved sequence block domain are defined in the mitochondrial genome control region of the Ussuri shrew. Mitochondrial genome analyses based on MP, ML, NJ, and Bayesian analyses yielded identical phylogenetic trees. The five Sorex species formed a monophyletic group with the high bootstrap value (100%) in all examinations.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the role and significance of hypoxia inducible factor lα (HIF-lα) and hypoxia microenvironment in the pathogenesis of post-traumatic heterotopic ossification by detecting the expression of HIF-lα in rat model of heterotopic ossification after Achilles tenotomy. METHODS: A total of 140 male Sprague Dawley rats, aged 8-10 weeks, and weighing (210.1±10.6) g, were randomly divided into experimental group (n=70) and control group (n=70). In experimental group, the Achilles tendon was cut off and clamped to prepare post-traumatic heterotopic ossification model; in control group, only Achilles tendon was exposed. The general condition of rats was observed after operation, and at 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, and 14 days after operation, the Achilles tendon tissue was harvested from 6 rats for gross observation, histological observation, and immunohistochemical staining observation, and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and Western blot were used to detect the expressions of HIF-lα gene and protein at different time points in 2 groups. The X-ray films were taken and histological examination was done at 10 weeks after operation to evaluate the formation of heterotopic ossification. RESULTS: During the experiment, 1 rat died in experimental group at 3 days after operation, and the other rats survived to the end of the experiment. Gross and histological staining showed that the Achilles tendon had no obvious change, with normal tendon structure in control group at each time point. In experimental group, atrophy and necrosis of Achilles tendon stump were observed, with infiltration of inflammatory cells; and the hardness of Achilles tendon tissue gradually increased with the time; there were a large number of irregular connective tissue and cartilage cells. When compared with control group, the HIF-lα mRNA and protein expressions were significantly increased in experimental group at each time point (P<0.05). Immunohistochemical staining showed that HIF-lα was positive in experimental group. According to the results of X-ray films and histological examination at 10 weeks after operation, heterotopic ossification was found in experimental group, but no heterotopic ossification in control group. CONCLUSIONS: The expression of HIF-lα significantly increases at early stage of post-traumatic heterotopic ossification after Achilles tenotomy, suggesting that the local hypoxia microenvironment plays an important role in the pathogenesis of heterotopic ossification.

RESUMO

AIM: The present meta-nalysis investigates the prognostic value of osteopontin. (OPN) expression in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer. (NSCLC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Web of Science (1945 ~ 2013), the Cochrane Library Database (Issue 12, 2013), PubMed (1966 ~ 2013), EMBASE (1980 ~ 2013), CINAHL (1982 ~ 2013), and the Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM) (1982 ~ 2013) were searched, without language restrictions, to retrieve studies related to OPN and NSCLC. We compiled carefully selected data and a meta-analysis was conducted using STATA software (Version 12.0, Stata Corporation, and College Station, Texas USA). Hazard ratios (HR) with corresponding 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were calculated. RESULTS: Ten clinical cohort studies were selected for statistical analysis, representing a total of 1,133 NSCLC patients. The main findings of our meta-analysis are that patients who were OPN-positive had significantly shorter overall survival than OPN-negative patients. (HR = 1.47, 95%CI = 1.15. ~ 1.79,P< 0.001). Ethnicity.stratified analysis revealed a significant correlation between expression levels of OPN and poor prognosis of NSCLC patients among both Caucasians and Asians. (Asians: HR = 1.53, 95%CI = 0.95. ~ 2.11, P < 0.001; Caucasians: HR = 1.56, 95%CI = 1.08. ~ 2.03, P < 0.001; respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The present meta-analysis is consistent with the hypothesis that increased expression of OPN protein may be significantly associated with poor prognosis in patients with NSCLC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the surgical treatment and effectiveness of senile chronic shoulder dislocation. METHODS: Between October 2011 and April 2014, 7 elderly patients with chronic shoulder dislocation were treated. There were 2 males and 5 females with an average age of 74 years (range, 61-83 years). The causes of injuries were falling injury in 6 patients and traffic accident injury in 1 patient. The interval between injury and confirmed diagnosis was 4-12 weeks (mean, 6.7 weeks). Preoperative apprehension test and Dugas sign of the shoulder joint were positive. Before operation, the forward elevation, abduction, and external rotation were (50.7±8.4), (44.5±3.3), and (35.8±4.8), respectively; and internal rotation reached T6, T11, L4 in 1 case and reached T10, T12 in 2 cases separately. The Constant-Murley score and Neer score were 51.2±8.3 and 45.4±7.3, respectively. RESULTS: All the incisions healed by first intention, and no complication of fracture or neurovascular injuries occurred. Seven patients were followed up 12-18 months (mean, 16 months), and no re-dislocation happened. At last follow-up, apprehension test and Dugas sign of the shoulder joint were negative. The forward elevation, abduction, and external rotation were significantly improved to (117.5±13.1), (72.0±4.6), and (39.0±3.4)° (t= -33.746, P=0.000; t= -30.614, P=0.000; t= -2.802, P=0.031); and internal rotation reached T6, T10, T12, and L3 in 1 case respectively, and L3 in 3 cases, showing no significant difference when compared with preoperative values (Z= -1.732, P=0.083). The Constant-Murley score and Neer score were significantly improved to 85.4±4.3 and 84.0±4.8 when compared with preoperative score (t= -21.016, P=0.000; t= -29.518, P=0.000). CONCLUSION: Surgical treatment of senile chronic shoulder dislocation can improve the range of motion and function of the shoulder joint obviously.

RESUMO

Fracture and intrathoracic displacement of the humeral head is the result of severe high energy trauma and are extremely rare. Because of the exceedingly limited number of cases, appropriate treatment modality remains unclear. Hitherto, we describe a unique case of thoracic aorta injury caused by fragmented humeral head. Purposeful medical examination and fast locating of the humeral head fragment are crucial for the selection of appropriate treatment modality. Early aggressive intervention, e.g., emergency thoracoscopy exploring, can be performed to treat potential thoracic complications.
