RESUMO

The application of thermal treatment in medicine has truly developed during the last decade. Whether it be laser therapy or, more recently plasma therapy, clinicians are regularly using these treatments in their everyday practice. They truly appreciate the advantages relative to the precision of the surgical procedure, the absence of bleeding and the ability to preserve the integrity of the surrounding tissues. patient appreciate the comfort associated with the interventions, without practically any post-operative pain and complications. In the field of odontology, several million procedures are rendered each year with these systems which, among many other advantages, do preserve the vitality of the dentino-pulpal area. This article deals with the technology and indications for its therapeutic use today.

RESUMO

This study presents a detailed example of the examination of the tooth treated by thermal therapy, by infrared thermography and the different manners to show the results of the examination. The results of the work shows: the thermal diffusion into the tooth is similar to the thermal diffusion into an isotropic environment, the fusion heat of the dentine is reached without any damage to the pulp. The study of the tooth treated by the thermal action of the MICRO PLASMA SYSTEM confirms the thérapeutical effects of the thermal treatment without any damage to the pulp.

RESUMO

The objective of this study is to verify if laser (CO2) preparation of dental tissues has an effect on the quality of the seal of composite fillings. Forty-eight cavities were filled with the Scotchprep/Scotchbond 2 system, using P 50 (3M) as filling material, following the clinical protocol of the system; 40 cavities had previously been treated with a CO2 laser Sharplan 1020 (SBM). The teeth were thermocycled (240 cycles 4 degrees C/55 degrees C), then placed in a 0.5% basic fuschine solution for 48 hours after isolation of the root dentin. After inclusion and section, the penetration of the coloring agent was examined at the interface tooth-filling. This was followed by examination of the interface composite-tooth with the Scan Electronic Microscope. In order to visualize a possible alteration of the dentinal seal, 4 cavities treated with laser were placed in a 0.5% basic fuschine solution for 48 hours after isolation of the root dentin. Four reference cavities were cut with a diamond bur on a high speed handpiece. The following results were obtained: 1) the dentinal permeability of the laser-treated samples increases markedly in comparison with the reference group. 2) the filling-tooth junction of the laser-treated samples were never dye-tight (contrary to the reference samples). 3) fissures were created in the enamel and the dentin. The Scan Electron Microscopy confirms these results.

RESUMO

Traumatic inflammation due to application of CO2 laser radiation (lambda = 10.6 microns) on the dentin and on pulp of 342 teeth of 8 dogs (Beagle) and of 6 monkeys (Macaca sp. mulatta et fascicularis) stimulate in dentino-pulpal tissue morphological phenomenon, studied after 5 days, 1 and 3 months by microscopy and microradiography. The dentin exposed to a density of energy of: 2 X 10(3) J/cm2 shows a burn, a rarefaction and a cellular degeneration, followed by a neoformation of calcified dentin, of about 300 microns thick in 3 months, due to the excitation of odontoblasts or produced by pulpal cells functioning before. A density of energy of 10(3) J/cm2 order applied to the pulp beads to its partial necrosis, to various inflammatory aspects (vascular, cellular, tissular) and to a quasi-constant regeneration of by a neo-dentin bridge of 200 micron at 1 month. This method seems able to allow the analysis of cell activity (start, activation, blocking).
