Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) play a key role in regulating the host immune response and shaping tumor microenvironment. It has been previously shown that T cell infiltration in penile tumors was associated with clinical outcomes. However, few studies have reported the T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire in patients with penile cancer. In the present study, we evaluated the TCR repertoires in tumor and adjacent normal tissues from 22 patients with penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC). Analysis of the T cell receptor beta-variable (TRBV) and joining (TRBJ) genes usage and analysis of complementarity determining region 3 (CDR3) length distribution did not show significant differences between tumor and matched normal tissues. Moreover, analysis of the median Jaccard index indicated a limited overlap of TCR repertoire between these groups. Compared with normal tissues, a significantly lower diversity and higher clonality of TCR repertoire was observed in tumor samples, which was associated with clinical characteristics. Further analysis of transcriptional profiles demonstrated that tumor samples with high clonality showed increased expression of genes associated with CD8 + T cells. In addition, we analyzed the TCR repertoire of CD4 + T cells and CD8 + T cells isolated from tumor tissues. We identified that expanded clonotypes were predominantly in the CD8 + T cell compartment, which presented with an exhausted phenotype. Overall, we comprehensively compared TCR repertoire between penile tumor and normal tissues and demonstrated the presence of distinct T cell immune microenvironments in patients with PSCC.

Precision mapping of glycans at structural and site-specific level is still one of the most challenging tasks in the glycobiology field. Here, we describe a modularization strategy for de novo interpretation of N-glycan structures on intact glycopeptides using tandem mass spectrometry. An algorithm named StrucGP is also developed to automate the interpretation process for large-scale analysis. By dividing an N-glycan into three modules and identifying each module using distinct patterns of Y ions or a combination of distinguishable B/Y ions, the method enables determination of detailed glycan structures on thousands of glycosites in mouse brain, which comprise four types of core structure and 17 branch structures with three glycan subtypes. Owing to the database-independent glycan mapping strategy, StrucGP also facilitates the identification of rare/new glycan structures. The approach will be greatly beneficial for in-depth structural and functional study of glycoproteins in the biomedical research.

BACKGROUND: Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection among female is the cause of cervical cancer and genital warts. In China, the HPV vaccination rate and the target population screening rate among females are low, and the aims of this study on the genotype distribution and prevalence of HPV infection were to provide more targeted strategies for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer and HPV-related diseases. METHODS: Polymerase chain reaction-reverse dot blot (PCR-RDB) was adopted for HPV genotyping test, the prevalence and 23 genotypes distribution of HPV infections among 181,705 women in Chengdu from 2013 to 2020 were analysed. RESULTS: The overall prevalence rate of HPV infection among 181,705 cases was 23.28%, the prevalence of HR-HPV at the age group < 20 years, 60-69 years and ≥ 70 years were higher than the overall prevalence.The prevalence of HPV showed a bimodal U-shaped curve with age; the first and second peak common occurred among females < 20 years old (42.97%) and 60-69 years old (37.56%), respectively.The top five genotypes of HPV infection among females in Chengdu were HPV52/16/58/81/53. Single infection (73.26%) was the main HPV infection pattern, followed by double infection (19.17%) and multiple infection (7.57%), the infection rate of HPV showed a gradual declined as the patterns of HPV coinfections increased, low-risk and high-risk coinfection was higher in low-risk HPV infection (43.68%) and lower in high-risk HPV infection (13.59%). The prevalence of genotypes - 6 and - 81 infection was the second highest at the age group of 20 and 40-59, respectively, while the prevalence of HPV16 was the highest at the age group of ≥ 70 among 23 genotypes among the 181,705 women. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of HPV infections among women in Chengdu is higher than domestic certain developed citys, among the five vaccines available, nonavalent vaccine is more suitable for Chengdu females. For young females prioritizing vaccination is essential in the current context.Double screening for HPV DNA is important in middle-aged women (30-49 years), and screening should not be lacking in older women (> 65 years). Additionally,for patients with genital warts, it is necessary to screen for high-risk HPV infection and provide appropriate management and treatment. Given the limitations of this study, future HPV research should aim to achieve full coverage of the target population, and our studies should also include cellular or pathological data of HPV-positive cases, vaccination rates, and various lifestyle details.

Cubic nanoparticles of CeO2 were partly covered on the tetrahedron surface of γ-Bi2O3 through a hydrothermal reaction and then a calcination process to construct a novel S-type γ-Bi2O3/CeO2 heterojunction. The optimized sample removed 96% of lomefloxacin and 81% of tetracycline. During the cycling test, the photocatalytic efficiency of lomefloxacin and tetracycline was maintained above 87% and 80%, respectively, for five consecutive cycles. According to XRD and Raman spectra characterization, the sample after cycling held a stable crystal structure. Holes, OH-˙, O2˙, and electrons participated in the degradation of lomefloxacin, while tetracycline was removed via the effect of the former three active substances. Based on theoretical calculation and experimental tests, the excellent photocatalytic activity of γ-Bi2O3/CeO2 came from the fast transfer of charge carriers along the S-type path. Moreover, the CB electrons of γ-Bi2O3 and VB holes of CeO2 were preserved to generate free radicals for antibiotic degradation. The colony numbers of Escherichia coli were 1.50 × 10-6 CFU mL-1 and 1.39 × 10-6 CFU mL-1 in solutions after the degradation of the two pollutants, which represents the non-toxicity of the final products. The γ-Bi2O3/CeO2 sample has a potential application for antibiotic removal from modern sewage.

BACKGROUND: Understanding the characteristics of intrinsic connectivity networks (ICNs) in terms of both glucose metabolism and functional connectivity (FC) is important for revealing cognitive aging and neurodegeneration, but the relationships between these two aspects during aging has not been well established in older adults. OBJECTIVE: This study is to assess the relationship between age-related glucose metabolism and FC in key ICNs, and their direct or indirect effects on cognitive deficits in older adults. METHODS: We estimated the individual-level standard uptake value ratio (SUVr) and FC of eleven ICNs in 59 cognitively unimpaired older adults, then analyzed the associations of SUVr and FC of each ICN and their relationships with cognitive performance. RESULTS: The results showed both the SUVr and FC in the posterior default mode network (pDMN) had a significant decline with age, and the association between them was also significant. Moreover, both decline of metabolism and FC in the pDMN were significantly correlated with executive function decline. Finally, mediation analysis revealed the glucose metabolism mediated the FC decline with age and FC mediated the executive function deficits. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated that covariance between glucose metabolism and FC in the pDMN is one of the main routes that contributes to age-related executive function decline.

SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: Pathogenic structural genetic variants, also known as genomic disorders, have been associated with pediatric CKD. This study extends those results across the lifespan, with genomic disorders enriched in both pediatric and adult patients compared with controls. In the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort study, genomic disorders were also associated with lower serum Mg, lower educational performance, and a higher risk of death. A phenome-wide association study confirmed the link between kidney disease and genomic disorders in an unbiased way. Systematic detection of genomic disorders can provide a molecular diagnosis and refine prediction of risk and prognosis. BACKGROUND: Genomic disorders (GDs) are associated with many comorbid outcomes, including CKD. Identification of GDs has diagnostic utility. METHODS: We examined the prevalence of GDs among participants in the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) cohort II ( n =248), Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) study ( n =3375), Columbia University CKD Biobank (CU-CKD; n =1986), and the Family Investigation of Nephropathy and Diabetes (FIND; n =1318) compared with 30,746 controls. We also performed a phenome-wide association analysis (PheWAS) of GDs in the electronic MEdical Records and GEnomics (eMERGE; n =11,146) cohort. RESULTS: We found nine out of 248 (3.6%) CKiD II participants carried a GD, replicating prior findings in pediatric CKD. We also identified GDs in 72 out of 6679 (1.1%) adult patients with CKD in the CRIC, CU-CKD, and FIND cohorts, compared with 199 out of 30,746 (0.65%) GDs in controls (OR, 1.7; 95% CI, 1.3 to 2.2). Among adults with CKD, we found recurrent GDs at the 1q21.1, 16p11.2, 17q12, and 22q11.2 loci. The 17q12 GD (diagnostic of renal cyst and diabetes syndrome) was most frequent, present in 1:252 patients with CKD and diabetes. In the PheWAS, dialysis and neuropsychiatric phenotypes were the top associations with GDs. In CRIC participants, GDs were associated with lower serum magnesium, lower educational achievement, and higher mortality risk. CONCLUSION: Undiagnosed GDs are detected both in children and adults with CKD. Identification of GDs in these patients can enable a precise genetic diagnosis, inform prognosis, and help stratify risk in clinical studies. GDs could also provide a molecular explanation for nephropathy and comorbidities, such as poorer neurocognition for a subset of patients.

Silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) with a chemically modified surface typically have a complicated chemical composition, which can significantly differ from their intended design. In this study, we systematically studied the effects of two surface modification methods on active-targeting of intracellular organelles of SiNPs: (1) the widely used step-by-step approach, which involves modifying SiNPs in two steps, i.e., the outer surface of SiNPs was firstly modified with amino groups and then these amino groups were linked with targeting groups, and (2) a newly developed one-step approach in which the ligand-silane complex is initially synthesized, followed by chemically immobilizing the complex on the surface of SiNPs. In the one-step approach, the molar ratio of reactants was precisely tuned so that there are no reactive groups left on the outer surface of SiNPs. Two essential organelles, mitochondria and the nucleus, were selected to compare the targeting performances of SiNPs synthesized via these two approaches. By characterizing physicochemical properties, including structural properties, the number of amino groups, surface charge, polydispersity, and cell colocalization, we demonstrated that SiNPs synthesized via the one-step approach with no residual linkage groups on their surface showed significantly improved mitochondria- and nucleus-targeting performances. This precise control of surface properties allows for optimized biological behavior and active-targeting efficiency of SiNPs. We anticipate that such simple and efficient synthetic strategies will enable the synthesis of effective SiNPs for active-targeting organelles in various biological applications.

Chromium released during municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) is toxic and carcinogenic. The removal of chromium from simulated MSWI flue gas by four sorbents (CaO, bamboo charcoal (BC), powdered activated carbon (PAC), and Al2O3) and the effects of four oxides (SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, and CaO) on chromium speciation transformation were investigated. The results showed that the removal rates of total Cr by the four sorbents were Al2O3 < CaO < PAC < BC, while the removal rates of Cr(VI) by the four sorbents were Al2O3 < PAC < BC < CaO. CaO had a strong oxidizing effect on Cr(III), while BC and PAC had a better-reducing effect on Cr(VI). SiO2 was better for the reduction of Na2CrO4 and K2CrO4 above 1000°C due to its strong acidity, and the addition of CaO significantly inhibited the reduction of Cr(VI). MgCrO4 decomposed above 700°C to form MgCr2O4, and the reaction between MgCrO4 and oxides also existed in the form of a more stable trivalent spinel. Furthermore, when investigating the effect of oxides on the oxidation of Cr(III) in CrCl3, it was discovered that CaO promoted the conversion of Cr(III) to Cr(VI), while the presence of chlorine caused chromium to exist in the form of Cr(V), and increasing the content of CaO and extending the heating time facilitated the oxidation of Cr(III). In addition, silicate, aluminate, and ferrite were generated after the addition of SiO2, Al2O3, and Fe2O3, which reduced the alkalinity of CaO and had an important role in inhibiting the oxidation of Cr(III). The acidic oxides can not only promote the reduction of Cr(VI) but also have an inhibitory effect on the oxidation of Cr(III) ascribed to alkali metals/alkaline earth metals, and the proportion of acidic oxides can be increased moderately to reduce the generation of harmful substances in the hazardous solid waste heat treatment.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a crucial role in numbers of biological processes and have received wide attention during the past years. Since the rapid development of high-throughput transcriptome sequencing technologies (RNA-seq) lead to a large amount of RNA data, it is urgent to develop a fast and accurate coding potential predictor. Many computational methods have been proposed to address this issue, they usually exploit information on open reading frame (ORF), protein sequence, k-mer, evolutionary signatures, or homology. Despite the effectiveness of these approaches, there is still much room to improve. Indeed, none of these methods exploit the contextual information of RNA sequence, for example, k-mer features that counts the occurrence frequencies of continuous nucleotides (k-mer) in the whole RNA sequence cannot reflect local contextual information of each k-mer. In view of this shortcoming, here, we present a novel alignment-free method, CPPVec, which exploits the contextual information of RNA sequence for coding potential prediction for the first time, it can be easily implemented by distributed representation (e.g., doc2vec) of protein sequence translated from the longest ORF. The experimental findings demonstrate that CPPVec is an accurate coding potential predictor and significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods.

Clk4-associated serine/arginine-rich protein (CLASRP), an alternative splicing regulator, may be involved in the development and progression of cancer by regulating the activity of the CDC-like kinase (Clk) family. This study explored the biological function of CLASRP in colorectal cancer (CRC). The expression of CLASRP, which is associated with clinicopathological features, was analysed in CRC tissues and paired noncancer tissues by RT-PCR. The roles of CLASRP were investigated in CRC cells transfected with plasmids or shRNA through proliferation, migration and invasion assays in vitro and a xenograft model in vivo. Apoptosis was analysed using CLASRP-overexpressing CRC cells by western blotting. Clk inhibitors were used to perform functional research on CLASRP in CLASRP-overexpressing CRC cells. CLASRP was significantly upregulated in CRC cell lines, while high CLASRP expression was correlated with metastasis in CRC patients. Functionally, overexpression of CLASRP significantly promoted the proliferation, migration and invasion of CRC cells in vitro and tumour growth in vivo. Mechanistically, the proliferation, migration and invasion of CLASRP-overexpressing CRC cells were inhibited by Clk inhibitors, accompanied by low expression of CLASRP at the gene and protein levels. Clk inhibitors induced apoptosis of CLASRP-overexpressing CRC cells, resulting in direct blockade of cell growth. The expression levels of cleaved caspase 3 and cleaved caspase 8 were increased in CLASRP-overexpressing CRC cells treated with Clk inhibitors. CLASRP might serve as a promotional oncogene in CRC cells and be suppressed by Clk inhibitors through activation of caspase pathways.

The A/T/N research framework has been proposed for the diagnosis and prognosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the spatial distribution of ATN biomarkers and their relationship with cognitive impairment and neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) need further clarification in patients with AD. We scanned 83 AD patients and 38 cognitively normal controls who independently completed the mini-mental state examination and Neuropsychiatric Inventory scales. Tau, Aß, and hypometabolism spatial patterns were characterized using Statistical Parametric Mapping together with [18F]flortaucipir, [18F]florbetapir, and [18F]FDG positron emission tomography. Piecewise linear regression, two-sample t-tests, and support vector machine algorithms were used to explore the relationship between tau, Aß, and hypometabolism and cognition, NPS, and AD diagnosis. The results showed that regions with tau deposition are region-specific and mainly occurred in inferior temporal lobes in AD, which extensively overlaps with the hypometabolic regions. While the deposition regions of Aß were unique and the regions affected by hypometabolism were widely distributed. Unlike Aß, tau and hypometabolism build up monotonically with increasing cognitive impairment in the late stages of AD. In addition, NPS in AD were associated with tau deposition closely, followed by hypometabolism, but not with Aß. Finally, hypometabolism and tau had higher accuracy in differentiating the AD patients from controls (accuracy = 0.88, accuracy = 0.85) than Aß (accuracy = 0.81), and the combined three were the highest (accuracy = 0.95). These findings suggest tau pathology is superior over Aß and glucose metabolism to identify cognitive impairment and NPS. Its results support tau accumulation can be used as a biomarker of clinical impairment in AD.

Li+ insertion-induced structure transformation in crystalline electrodes vitally influence the energy density and cycle life of secondary lithium-ion battery. However, the influence mechanism of structure transformation-induced Li+ migration on the electrochemical performance of micro-crystal materials is still unclear and the strategy to profit from such structure transformation remains exploited. Here, an interesting self-optimization of structure evolution during electrochemical cycling in Nb2 O5 micro-crystal with rich domain boundaries is demonstrated, which greatly improves the charge transfer property and mechanical strength. The lattice rearrangement activates the Li+ diffusion kinetics and hinders the particle crack, thus enabling a nearly zero-degeneration operation after 8000 cycles. Full cell paired with lithium cobalt oxides displays an exceptionally high capacity of 176 mA h g-1 at 8000 mA g-1 and excellent long-term durability at 6000 mA g-1 with 63% capacity retention over 2000 cycles. Interestingly, a unique fingerprint based on the intensity ratio of two X-ray diffraction peaks is successfully extracted as a measure of Nb2 O5 electrochemical performance. The structure self-optimization for fast charge transfer and high mechanical strength exemplifies a new battery electrode design concept and opens up a vast space of strategy to develop high-performance lithium-ion batteries with high energy density and ultra-long cycle life.

The photocatalysis conversion of CO2 into fuels has become an encouraging method to address climate and energy issues as a long-term solution. Single material suffers poor yield due to low light energy utilization and high recombination rate of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. It is an efficient approach to construct heterojunction through two or three materials to improve the photocatalytic performance. Recently, 2D-based heterojunction is getting popular for outstanding properties, such as special light collecting structure to enhance light harvest, intimate interface to facilitate charge transfer and separation, and large specific surface area to provide abundant reactive sites. Recently, some new 2D-based heterostructures materials (both structure and composition) have been developed with excellent performance. 2D materials exert structural and functional advantages in these fine composite photocatalysts. In this review, the literatures about the photocatalytic conversion of CO2 are mainly summarized based on overall structure, interface type and material type of 2D-based heterojunction, with special attention given to the preparation, characterization, structural advantages and reaction mechanism of novel 2D-based heterojunction. This work is in hope of offering a basis for designing improved composite photocatalyst for CO2 photoreduction.

BACKGROUND: Currently, high doses of cytarabine arabinoside (Ara-C)-based combined chemotherapy are commonly used in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) therapy, but severe adverse effects and poor suppression effects in leukemia cells limit the clinical therapeutic efficiency of Ara-C-based chemotherapy due to a lack of targeting selectivity. To improve the therapeutic effect of Ara-C in AML, here, since we confirmed that transferrin receptor 1 (TFRC) expression in AML cells was constant, we generated Ara-C@HFn by encapsulating free Ara-C into self-assembled heavy ferritin chain (HFn, the ligand of TFRC) nanocages. RESULTS: The analysis of clinically relevant data suggested that the high expression levels of TFRC from AML cells would not decrease significantly after treatment with Ara-C. Ara-C@HFn can be efficiently internalized by leukemia cells, showing stronger cytotoxic effects in vitro and reducing the burden of leukemia in AML mice more effectively in vivo than free Ara-C. Ara-C@HFn treatment showed no acute toxicity in visceral organs of mice. Moreover, the analysis of clinically relevant data also suggested that there are several drugs (such as tamibarotene and ABT199) that would not cause significant expression down-regulation of TFRC in AML cells (after treatment). CONCLUSION: The above results suggested that TFRC can be used as a constant and effective target for drug targeting delivery of AML cells. Thus Ara-C@HFn treatment can become a safe and efficient strategy for AML therapy by specifically delivering Ara-C to AML cells. Besides, the HFn nanocages are promising for improving antineoplastic effect of other AML-related therapy drugs that do not cause downregulated expression of TFRC in AML cells.

Transparent nanopaper (T-paper) can be applied in the field of electromagnetic shielding materials, antistatic materials, composite conductive materials, electric pool materials, super capacitors, and thermal management systems. However, this kind of T-paper has not been employed in ultrafast photonics yet. For the first time, to our knowledge, transparent electrical nanopaper is used in fiber lasers, different from the conventional pulsed fiber laser, which operates in the Q-switched regime under low pump power and then in the mode-locked regime under high pump power. Mode-locking is achieved first with a pulse duration of 550 fs under low pump power (166 mW). When further increasing the pump power up to 198 mW, the proposed fiber laser can be converted from a mode-locked to Q-switched state, which is a result of the two-photon absorption effect. The proposed fiber laser based on T-paper can be potentially applied in optical tomography, metrology, spectroscopy, micro-machining technology, and biomedical diagnostics.

INTRODUCTIONS: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between refractive status and ocular biological parameters in preschool-age children (3-6 years old), establish a regression curve, guide the clinical judgment of children's refractive status, and improve the accuracy of refractive screening for this age group. METHODS: A total of 508 children, aged 3-6 years, were admitted to the hospital, exhibiting symptoms of ametropia and a need for dilation optometry. Among these, 326 children were included in the statistics group, having been examined between August 2021 and October 2022, and 182 children were included in the validation group, having been examined between November 2022 and March 2023. Using IOL Master700, ocular biometry parameters were measured for all participants, including axial length (AL), keratometry readings (K1 and K2), anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT), and central corneal thickness (CCT). One percent atropine sulfate eye gel was administered, and then the spherical equivalent (SE) was calculated by Bennett's formula. The correlation between SE and other ocular biometrics was analyzed, followed by the establishment of an SE prediction equation. The SE prediction equation was used to calculate the spherical equivalent (SE#) using ocular biometry data from the validation group, and the consistency between SE and SE# was evaluated. RESULTS: SE showed a negative correlation with AL/CR (r = -0.936), AL (r = -0.811), ACD (r = -0.500), age (r = -0.396), and Km (r = -0.213) (p < 0.001), and positive correlation with LT (r = 0.301), LP (r = 0.176) (p < 0.001). A multiple linear regression equation was established for SE using the stepwise selection method, SE = 49.232 - 23.583 × AL/CR + 1.703 × ACD + 0.589 × Km - 0.609 × LP + 1.103 × LT (R2 = 0.997). Based on the regression equation, the predicted SE# highly correlated with SE after cycloplegia in the validation group (r = 0.998, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The main ocular biological factors of ocular diopter in children aged 3-6 years are AL/CR, ACD, Km, LP, and LT, which are jointly influenced by multiple factors. Ocular biometry is a reliable predictor of real refraction among children aged 3-6.

With the growth of the aging population, more age-related diseases endanger the health of the elderly, and therefore more research attention has been put on Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Dementia does not only posing a serious threat to basic daily living in old age but also impose a greater burden on social and medical care as well as the economy. It is urgent to explore the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and develop effective medicine to prevent or mitigate its onset. Currently, many related mechanisms of the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease have been proposed, such as beta-amyloid (A) theory, Tau protein theory, and nerve and blood vessel theory. In addition, from the perspective of improving cognitive function and controlling mental state, dementia-related therapeutic drugs were developed, such as anti-amyloid agents, amyloid vaccine, tau vaccine, and tau-aggregation inhibitor. These theories of pathogenesis and the development of drugs provide valuable experience to lift the veil of cognitive disorders in the future.

Cognitive impairment has become an important aspect affecting the health and quality of life of middle-aged and elderly people, which is defined as the difficulty of thought processing and leads to memory loss, difficulties making decisions, the inability to concentrate, and difficulties learning. The process of cognitive ability decline with age goes through subjective cognitive impairment (SCI) to mild cognitive impairment (MCI). There is abundant evidence supporting the link between cognitive impairment and several modifiable risk factors, such as physical activity, social activity, mental activity, higher education, and management of cardiovascular risk factors (diabetes, obesity, smoking, hypertension, and obesity). Meanwhile, these factors also provide a new perspective for the prevention of cognitive impairment and dementia.

Accurate measurement of the permittivity and loss tangent of low-loss materials is essential due to their special applications in the field of ultra large scale integrated circuits and microwave devices. In this study, we developed a novel strategy that can accurately detect the permittivity and loss tangent of low-loss materials based on a cylindrical resonant cavity supporting the TE111 mode in X band (8-12 GHz). Based on an electromagnetic field simulation calculation of the cylindrical resonator, permittivity is precisely retrieved by exploring and analyzing the perturbation of the coupling hole and sample size on the cutoff wavenumber. A more precise approach to measuring the loss tangent of samples with various thicknesses has been proposed. The test results of the standard samples verify that this method can accurately measure the dielectric properties of samples that have smaller sizes than the high Q cylindrical cavity method.

The gaseous elemental mercury (Hg0) emitted from coal-fired flue gas is extremely harmful to the atmospheric environment and human health. In this study, a 2D/2D Bi2MoO6(2 0 0)/g-C3N4 heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized and exhibited a high visible-light driven Hg0 removal efficiency up to 99.5% in an atmosphere consisting of N2, O2 (6%), CO2 (12%), NO (100 ppm), SO2 (800 ppm), and H2O (5%). The introduction of surfactant CTAB led to further exposure of the highly active (2 0 0) crystal facet of Bi2MoO6, with a higher reactive oxygen species ratio than the original mainly exposed (1 3 1) crystal facet, and inhibited the agglomeration of Bi2MoO6, thereby greatly reducing the micro-thickness and improving the specific surface area. The smaller thickness effectively promoted the separation of photoinduced carriers and the speed of transfer to the interface. Additionally, through EPR characterization and work function calculation, we observed that the change in the exposed crystal facet regulated the Fermi level of Bi2MoO6 nanosheets, altering the direction of the built-in electric field at the interface with g-C3N4. This formation of an S-scheme 2D/2D Bi2MoO6(2 0 0)/g-C3N4 heterostructure further facilitated the recombination of unintentional carriers and strengthened the separation and catalysis of effective photogenerated carriers. To a certain extent, this work provides a guidance for the research of photocatalysis to achieve efficient and sustainable mercury removal from coal-fired flue gas.
