RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of the present study was to compare the voice of choir singers before and after 60 min of singing and after an absolute rest. METHODS: Twenty-one female choir singers aged on average 26.59 years, with experience in choir singing of at least one year were instructed to emit the vowel /a/ before and after singing and after a vocal rest of 30 min for an analysis of acoustic measures, and for the evaluation of their tactile-kinesthetic self-perception. Vocal warm-up was performed for 10 min. The participants were instructed to sing the "Ave Verum" music continuously for 60 min. RESULTS: f0 (p = 0.0001) and Flo (p = 0.0002) increased after the singing test and were reduced after the vocal rest, in contrast to Fhi (p = 0.001), which continued to be increased compared to the pre-test measure even after the vocal rest. The vAm parameter (p = 0.05) was reduced after continuous singing and rest. All self-evaluation symptoms increased after the continuous singing task and were reduced after the 30 min rest, except for complaints of low voice, pain when swallowing and cough/throat clearing. CONCLUSION: 60 min of continuous use of the singing voice induced signs of vocal fatigue with an increase in f0, with improvement of symptoms and a reduction of f0 occurring after 30 min of vocal rest.

RESUMO

A cross-sectional study was conducted on the 12th month of using the voice nursing and health education system. Work sampling method was used to observe for 120 hours, and 39 satisfaction questionnaires were collected. The results showed that the usage rate of voice health education system accounted for 14.3% of nursing guidance tools. Pearson analysis showed that user satisfaction and usage efficiency had the greatest impact (p < .001). When the system's ease of operation and stability meet expectations, the care guidance process can be improved.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This systematic review aims to explore the effectiveness of voice health education interventions among singers, particularly focusing on vocal hygiene treatment programs tailored for professional voice users. STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review. METHODS: Preferred Reporting Items on Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines were followed to conduct this systematic review. Comprehensive searches were conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Science Direct, and Cochrane Library databases. Four articles were selected for detailed review. The studies were evaluated using the Effective Public Health Practice Project tool for quality assessment. RESULTS: The four reviewed studies primarily utilized the pretest-posttest design to examine the effectiveness of vocal hygiene interventions on singers' vocal health. Two studies investigated the effect of hydration as a treatment method, while the remaining two focused on vocal hygiene instruction. Significant improvements were observed in various vocal health parameters, including maximum phonation time, intensity, Dysphonia Severity Index, and number of daily vocal breaks taken. CONCLUSION: This systematic review provides valuable insights into the efficacy of vocal hygiene treatment programs for singers. The positive outcomes observed in the reviewed studies underscore the importance of voice health education tailored to singers' specific needs. However, the limited number of eligible studies and the common limitation of small sample sizes highlight the need for further research in this area. Vocal health practitioners, educators, and researchers can utilize the findings of this review to develop evidence-based vocal hygiene interventions that promote the well-being and longevity of singers' vocal performance careers.

RESUMO

TYPE OF STUDY: This is a longitudinal, case-control clinical trial. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to track recovery time following a vocal loading task (VLT) imposing vocal fatigue and to explore if patients with functional dysphonia (FD) are worse affected by vocal loading, and if these patients take longer than others to recover. METHODS: Fifty (n = 50) female participants in four vocal subgroups on a spectrum of everyday vocal loading and functional voice complaints, including n = 20 patients with FD, took part in a clinical VLT, inflicting vocal fatigue through loud speech in ambient noise. Short-term recovery was explored through self-assessment of unspecified voice problems every 15 minutes for 2 hours following loading. Long-term recovery was tracked through self-assessments of specific voice symptoms during 3 days following vocal loading. Effects of heavy vocal loading were evaluated through voice recordings, long-time-average spectrum, perceptual assessments, and assessments of digital imaging performed pre- and post vocal loading. RESULTS: Patients with FD did not return to baseline for unspecified voice problems within 2 hours of vocal loading and were worse affected by vocal loading than other groups. Women with high everyday vocal loading with no voice complaints identified vocal loading more evidently than other groups. Long-term recovery took 7-20 hours for all groups. CONCLUSIONS: Short-term recovery is slower for patients with FD and these patients are worse affected by a VLT than others.

OBJECTIVE: It is an integrated review aiming at knowing the educational content of collective and preventive actions on Teacher's vocal health. METHOD: To perform this study, authors followed suggested criteria from Cochrane Handbook, which starts with the definition of research question, following search and selection of papers, and critical analysis of each paper. This process ends with analysis, interpretation and explanation of the findings about the research question. Through the search engine of Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) portal, the Bireme, Pubmed, SciELO, Cochrane, Scopus and Web Of Science platforms / databases were consulted using the descriptors "voice and teacher", "voice and professor", in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The study reveals that there are a big variety of methods and educational contents used in actions on teacher's vocal health. LITERATURE REVIEW: The first electronic search recorded 530 scientific papers, of which 510 were excluded and 20 elected because they are preventive collective practices focused on teachers' vocal health, which described the educational content applied. CONCLUSION: The studies showed that there is great variability in the methodology and in the discussed educational content. In theoretical content, almost all interventions addressed the vocal hygiene issue. In the practical content, applied topics were heterogeneous.
