RESUMO

The inherent zero-band gap nature of graphene and its fast photocarrier recombination rate result in poor optical gain and responsivity when graphene is used as the light absorption medium in photodetectors. Here, semiconducting graphene nanoribbons with a direct bandgap of 1.8 eV are synthesized and employed to construct a vertical heterojunction photodetector. At a bias voltage of -5 V, the photodetector exhibits a responsivity of 1052 A/W, outperforming previous graphene-based heterojunction photodetectors by several orders of magnitude. The achieved detectivity of 3.13 × 1013 Jones and response time of 310 µs are also among the best values for graphene-based heterojunction photodetectors reported until date. Furthermore, even under zero bias, the photodetector demonstrates a high responsivity and detectivity of 1.04 A/W and 2.45 × 1012 Jones, respectively. The work shows a great potential of graphene nanoribbon-based photodetection technology.

Sensory over-responsivity (SOR) is a prevalent cross-diagnostic condition that is often associated with anxiety. The biological mechanisms underlying the co-occurrence of SOR and anxiety symptoms are not well understood, despite having important implications for targeted intervention. We therefore investigated the unique associations of SOR and anxiety symptoms with physiological and neural responses to sensory stimulation for youth with anxiety disorders (ANX), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or typical development (TD). Age/IQ-matched youth aged 8-18 years (22 ANX; 30 ASD; 22 TD) experienced mildly aversive tactile and auditory stimuli during functional magnetic resonance imaging and then during skin conductance response (SCR) and heart rate (HR) measurements. Caregivers reported on participants' SOR and anxiety symptoms. ASD/ANX youth had elevated SOR and anxiety symptoms compared to TD. ASD/ANX youth showed similar, heightened brain responses to sensory stimulation compared to TD youth, but brain responses were more highly related to SOR symptoms in ASD youth and to anxiety symptoms in ANX youth. Across ASD/ANX youth, anxiety symptoms uniquely related to greater SCR whereas SOR uniquely related to greater HR responses to sensory stimulation. Behavioral and neurobiological over-responsivity to sensory stimulation was shared across diagnostic groups. However, findings support SOR and anxiety as distinct symptoms with unique biological mechanisms, and with different relationships to neural over-reactivity dependent on diagnostic group. Results indicate a need for targeted treatment approaches.

Callous-unemotional (CU) traits have important utility in distinguishing individuals exhibiting more severe and persistent antisocial behavior, and our understanding of reward processing and CU traits contributes to behavioral modification. However, research on CU traits often investigated reward alongside punishment and examined solely on average reward reactivity, neglecting the reward response pattern over time such as habituation. This study assessed individuals' pre-ejection period (PEP), a sympathetic nervous system cardiac-linked biomarker with specificity to reward, during a simple reward task to investigate the association between CU traits and both average reward reactivity and reward response pattern over time (captured as responding trajectory). A heterogeneous sample of 126 adult males was recruited from a major metropolitan area in the US. Participants reported their CU traits using the Inventory of Callous-Unemotional Traits and completed a simple reward task while impedance cardiography and electrocardiogram were recorded to derive PEP. The results revealed no significant association between average PEP reward reactivity and CU traits. However, CU traits predicted both linear and quadratic slopes of the PEP reactivity trajectory: individuals with higher CU traits had slower habituation initially, followed by a rapid habituation in later blocks. Findings highlight the importance of modeling the trajectory of PEP reward response when studying CU traits. We discussed the implications of individuals with high CU traits having the responding pattern of slower initial habituation followed by rapid habituation to reward and the possible mechanisms.

Bi2O2Se, a newly emerging two-dimensional (2D) material, has attracted significant attention as a promising candidate for optoelectronics applications due to its exceptional air stability and high mobility. Generally, mica and SrTiO3substrates with lattice matching are commonly used for the growth of high-quality 2D Bi2O2Se. Although 2D Bi2O2Se grown on these insulating substrates can be transferred onto Si substrate to ensure compatibility with silicon-based semiconductor processes, this inevitably introduces defects and surface states that significantly compromise the performance of optoelectronic devices. Herein we employ Bi2Se3as the evaporation source and oxygen reaction to directly grow Bi2O2Se nanosheets on Si substrate through a conventional chemical vapor deposition method. The photodetector based on the Bi2O2Se nanosheets on Si substrate demonstrates outstanding optoelectronics performance with a responsivity of 379 A W-1, detectivity of 2.9 × 1010Jones, and rapid response time of 0.28 ms, respectively, with 532 nm illumination. Moreover, it also exhibits a broadband photodetection capability across the visible to near-infrared range (532-1300 nm). These results suggest that the promising potential of Bi2O2Se nanosheets for high-performance and broadband photodetector applications.

Long term stability, high responsivity, and fast response speed are essential for the commercialization of graphene photodetectors (GPDs). In this work, a parylene/graphene UV photodetector with long term stability, ultrahigh responsivity and fast response speed, is demonstrated. Parylene as a stable physical and chemical insulating layer reduces the environmental sensitivity of graphene, and enhances the performances of GPDs. In addition, utilizing bilayer electrodes reduces the buckling and damage of graphene after transferring. The parylene/graphene UV photodetector exhibits an ultrahigh responsivity of 5.82 × 105AW-1under 325 nm light irradiation at 1 V bias. Additionally, it shows a fast response speed with a rise time of 80µs and a fall time of 17µs, and a long term stability at 405 nm wavelength which is absent in the device without parylene. The parylene/graphene UV photodetector possesses superior performances. This paves the way for the commercial application of the high-performance graphene hybrid photodetectors, and provides a practical method for maintaining the long term stability of two dimensional (2D) materials.

Perovskite quantum dots (QDs) and organic materials have great research potential in the field of optoelectronic devices. In this paper, MEH-PPV/CsPbBr3heterojunction photodetectors (PDs) are prepared by spin coating method based on the good photoelectric properties of CsPbBr3perovskite QDs and MEH-PPV. The MEH-PPV/CsPbBr3heterojunction improves the energy level arrangement, and CsPbBr3QDs can passivate the surface defects of MEH-PPV films to achieve effective charge separation and transfer, thus inhibiting the dark current and improving the photoelectric performance of the device. Under 532 nm laser irradiation, the responsivity (R) of MEH-PPV/CsPbBr3heterojunction PD is 11.98 A W-1, the specific detectivity (D*) is 6.98 × 1011Jones, and the response time is 15/16 ms. This work provides experience for the study of perovskite QDs and organic materials heterojunction optoelectronic devices.

Gold nanorods (AuNRs) are emerging metallic nanoparticles utilized to generate heat for photothermal therapy (PTT) in cancer. The tunable plasmonic properties of AuNRs make them a remarkable candidate for hyperthermia. However, the cytotoxicity of AuNRs limits its biological applicability due to the existence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) on the surface as a common surfactant. In this study, AuNRs are synthesized by seed-mediated growth and then the optical properties are optimized by altering AgNO3 concentration. Afterward, CTAB is replaced with biopolymers which are BSA:Dextran and BSA:Guar Gum conjugates resulting in enhanced cellular viability, enabling to use of them as biologically relevant photothermal agents. The biocompatibility of AuNRs is improved to utilize them at high concentrations for laser studies, in which similar heat generation success of CTAB- and biopolymer-coated AuNRs are shown for potential PTT applications. CTAB and biopolymer-coated AuNRs in concentrations of 0.5 and 1 mg mL-1 are irradiated under NIR light at 808 nm laser at 0.5, 0.75, and 1 W cm-2 for 300 s. The biopolymer-coated gold nanorods with different coatings preserve photothermal properties while reducing the cytotoxicity effects of CTAB and thus they are promising photothermal agents for potential PTT.

AIM: Despite the emphasis on sensory dysfunction phenotypes in the revised diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), there has been limited research, particularly in the field of neurobiology, investigating the concordance in sensory features between individuals with ASD and their genetic relatives. Therefore, our objective was to examine whether neurobehavioral sensory patterns could serve as endophenotypic markers for ASD. METHODS: We combined questionnaire- and lab-based sensory evaluations with sensory fMRI measures to examine the patterns of sensory responsivity in 30 clinically diagnosed with ASD, 26 matched controls (CON), and 48 biological parents for both groups (27 parents of individuals with ASD [P-ASD] and 21 for individuals with CON [P-CON]). RESULTS: The ASD and P-ASD groups had higher sensory responsivity and rated sensory stimuli as more unpleasant than the CON and P-CON groups, respectively. They also exhibited greater hemodynamic responses within the sensory cortices. Overlapping activations were observed within these sensory cortices in the ASD and P-ASD groups. Using a machine learning approach with robust prediction models across cohorts, we demonstrated that the sensory profile of biological parents accurately predicted the likelihood of their offspring having ASD, achieving a prediction accuracy of 71.4%. CONCLUSIONS: These findings provide support for the hereditary basis of sensory alterations in ASD and suggest a potential avenue to improve ASD diagnosis by utilizing the sensory signature of biological parents, especially in families with a high risk of ASD. This approach holds promising prospects for early detection, even before the birth of the offspring.

ß-Ga2O3 photodetectors have the advantages of low dark current and strong radiation resistance in UV detection. However, the limited photocurrent has restricted their applications. Herein, MSM UV photodetectors based on (InxGa1-x)2O3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) by a sol-gel method were fabricated and studied. The doping of indium ions in Ga2O3 leads to lattice distortion and promotes the formation of oxygen vacancies. The oxygen vacancies in (InxGa1-x)2O3 can be modulated by various proportions of indium, and the increased oxygen vacancies contribute to the enhancement of electron concentration. The results show that the amorphous In0.4Ga1.6O3 photodetector exhibited improved performances, including a high light-to-dark current ratio (2.8 × 103) and high responsivity (739.2 A/W). This work provides a promising semiconductor material In0.4Ga1.6O3 for high-performance MSM UV photodetectors.

This work reports on quantum dots (QDs) in perovskite photodetectors showing high optoelectronic performance via quantum-dot-assisted charge transmission. The self-powered broad-band photodetector constructed with SnS QDs in FAPb0.5Sn0.5I3 perovskite can capture incoming optical signals directly at zero bias. The QDs-in-perovskite photodetector exhibits a high sensitivity in the wavelength range from 300 to 1000 nm. Its responsivity at 850 nm reaches 521.7 mA W-1, and a high specific detectivity of 2.57 × 1012 jones can be achieved, which is well beyond the level of previous self-powered broad-band photodetectors. The capability of quantum-dot-in-perovskite photodetectors as data receivers has been further demonstrated in a visible-light communication application.

In recent years, 2D materials and their heterostructures have started to offer an ideal platform for high-performance photodetection devices. In this work, a highly responsive, self-powered photodetector based on PtSe2/MoS2 van der Waals heterostructure is demonstrated. The device achieves a noteworthy wide band spectral response from visible (405 nm) range to the near infrared region (980 nm). The remarkable photoresponsivity and external quantum efficiency up to 4.52 A/W, and 1880% are achieved, respectively, at 405 nm illumination with fast response time of 20 ms. In addition, the photodetector exhibits a decent photoresponsivity of 33.4 mA/W at zero bias, revealing the photodetector works well in the self-driven mode. Our work suggests that a PtSe2/MoS2 heterostructure could be a potential candidate for the high-performance photodetection applications.

The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore clients' perceptions of sex-offending treatment. The sample included 291 people required to register as sex offenders in the U.S. who answered an open-ended question in an online survey asking them to describe their positive and negative experiences in mandated treatment. Using qualitative analysis, three overarching themes (with several subthemes) were identified: (1) positive and (2) negative treatment experiences and (3) the affiliation between the criminal justice system and clinical services. Experiences in sex offending treatment were viewed as positive when clients had opportunities to learn about themselves, experience group cohesion, build a positive alliance with a caring therapist, learn tools and skills for emotional health, explore the roots of offense behavior, and create healthy life plans to reduce risk for re-offending. Negative themes emerged when treatments were viewed as coercive, confrontational, or demeaning; when therapists seemed inexperienced or unqualified; and when seemingly outdated or unscientific methods were emphasized without explanation or dialogue. The entanglement between court-mandated treatment providers and the criminal justice system led to concerns about confidentiality, conflicts of interest, and role ambiguity. Drawing upon literature related to therapeutic alliance, trauma-informed care, and Risk-Need-Responsivity models, we offer suggestions for integrating client feedback to improve treatment responsivity and prevent re-offending.

Stress occurs when conditions burden or exceed an individual's adaptive resources. Military personnel are often tasked with maintaining peak performance under such stressful conditions. Importantly, the effects of stress are nuanced and may vary as a function of individual traits and states. Recent interdisciplinary research has sought to model and identify such relationships. In two previously reported efforts, Soldiers first completed a comprehensive battery of trait assessments across four general domains thought to be predictive of performance: cognitive, health, physical, and social-emotional, and then completed the Decision-Making under Uncertainty and Stress (DeMUS) virtual reality task that probed spatial cognition, memory, and decision-making under stress and variable uncertainty. The present analysis explores whether cognitive, health, physical, and social-emotional trait assessments, as well as physiological state measures, predict or modulate DeMUS performance outcomes under stress. Multiple regression analyses examined the effect of each trait predictor and stress responsiveness on quantitative task performance outcomes. Results revealed that one measure of state stress reactivity, salivary cortisol, predicted lower recognition memory sensitivity. Further, trait measures of healthy eating, agility, flexibility, cognitive updating, and positive emotion predicted enhanced spatial orienting and decision-making performance and confidence. Together, the results suggest that select individual states and traits may predict cognition under stress. Future research should expand to ecologically relevant military stressors during training and operations.

Highly sensitive broadband photodetectors are critical to numerous cutting-edge technologies such as biomedical imaging, environment monitoring, and night vision. Here, phototransistors based on mixed Sn/Pb perovskites are reported, which demonstrate ultrahigh responsivity, gain and specific detectivity in a broadband from ultraviolet to near-infrared region. The interface properties of the perovskite phototransistors are optimized by a special three-step cleaning-healing-cleaning treatment, leading to a high hole mobility in the channel. The highly sensitive performance of the mixed Sn/Pb perovskite phototransistors can be attributed to the vertical compositional heterojunction automatically formed during the film deposition, which is helpful for the separation of photocarriers thereby enhancing a photogating effect in the perovskite channel. This work demonstrates a convenient approach to achieving high-performance phototransistors through tuning compositional gradient in mixed-metal perovskite channels.

High-quality photodetectors are always the main way to obtain external information, especially near-infrared sensors play an important role in remote sensing communication. However, due to the limitation of Silicon (Si) wide bandgap and the incompatibility of most near infrared photoelectric materials with traditional integrated circuits, the development of high performance and wide detection spectrum near infrared detectors suitable for miniaturization and integration is still facing many obstacles. Herein, the monolithic integration of large area tellurium optoelectronic functional units is realized by magnetron sputtering technology. Taking advantage of the type II heterojunction constructed by tellurium (Te) and silicon (Si), the photogenerated carriers are effectively separated, which prolongs the carrier lifetime and improves the photoresponse by several orders of magnitude. The tellurium/silicon (Te/Si) heterojunction photodetector demonstrates excellent detectivity and ultra-fast turn-on time. Importantly, an imaging array (20 × 20 pixels) based on the Te/Si heterojunction is demonstrated and high-contrast photoelectric imaging is realized. Because of the high contrast obtained by the Te/Si array, in comparison with the Si arrays, it significantly improve the efficiency and accuracy of the subsequent processing tasks when the electronic pictures are applied to artificial neural network (ANN) to simulate the artificial vision system.

BACKGROUND: Preliminary evidence shows that discordance in stress experience, expression, and physiology (EEP) in adolescents is linked to depression, suicidal ideation (SI), non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), and brain functioning. This study employs person-centered analysis to probe the relationship between stress responses, psychopathology, and neural patterns in female adolescents who are oversampled for engagement in NSSI. METHODS: Adolescent females (N = 109, ages 12-17) underwent a social stress test from which self-report measures of stress experience, observer ratings of stress expression, and physiological metrics of stress (via salivary cortisol) were obtained. Multi-trajectory modeling was employed to identify concordant and discordant stress EEP groups. Depressive symptoms, SI and attempt, NSSI engagement, frontal and limbic activation to emotional stimuli, and resting state fronto-limbic connectivity were examined in the EEP groups derived from the multi-trajectory models. RESULTS: Four groups were identified, three of which demonstrated relatively concordant EEP and one which demonstrated discordant EEP (High Experience-High Expression-Low Physiology). Further, replicating past research, the High Experience-High Expression-Low Physiology discordant group exhibited higher depressive symptoms, SI, suicide attempt, and NSSI episodes (only for sensitivity analyses based on past year) relative to other EEP groups. No significant group differences in brain functioning emerged. CONCLUSION: Results indicate that within-person, multi-level patterns in stress responding capture risk for dysfunction including depression and self-injurious thoughts and behaviors. Further interrogating of system-level stress functioning may better inform assessment and intervention efforts.

Ag2S quantum dot (QD) photodetectors (PDs) have attracted a lot of attention in the field of imaging system and optical communication. However, the current Ag2S PDs mainly works in the near-infrared band, and its detection ability in the visible band remains to be strengthened. In this paper, we used poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) with high carrier mobility and Ag2S QDs to construct heterojunction PD. Stronger absorption in blends with polymer P3HT compared to single Ag2S QDs. The optical absorption spectra show that the Ag2S/P3HT has strong light absorption peak at 394 and 598 nm. The results show that P3HT significantly enhances the absorption of Ag2S QDs from the visible to near-infrared band. The output characteristics, transfer characteristics and fast switching capability of the device at 405 nm, 532 nm and 808 nm were tested. The device has the responsivity of 6.05 A W-1, 83.72 A W-1and 37.31 A W-1under 405 nm, 532 nm and 808 nm laser irradiation. This work plays an important role in improving the detection performance of Ag2S QDs and broadening its applications in photoelectric devices for weak light and wide spectrum detection.

Early caregiving adversity (ECA) is associated with elevated psychological symptomatology. While neurobehavioral ECA research has focused on socioemotional and cognitive development, ECA may also increase risk for "low-level" sensory processing challenges. However, no prior work has compared how diverse ECA exposures differentially relate to sensory processing, or, critically, how this might influence psychological outcomes. We examined sensory processing challenges in 183 8-17-year-old youth with and without histories of institutional (orphanage) or foster caregiving, with a particular focus on sensory over-responsivity (SOR), a pattern of intensified responses to sensory stimuli that may negatively impact mental health. We further tested whether sensory processing challenges are linked to elevated internalizing and externalizing symptoms common in ECA-exposed youth. Relative to nonadopted comparison youth, both groups of ECA-exposed youth had elevated sensory processing challenges, including SOR, and also had heightened internalizing and externalizing symptoms. Additionally, we found significant indirect effects of ECA on internalizing and externalizing symptoms through both general sensory processing challenges and SOR, covarying for age and sex assigned at birth. These findings suggest multiple forms of ECA confer risk for sensory processing challenges that may contribute to mental health outcomes, and motivate continuing examination of these symptoms, with possible long-term implications for screening and treatment following ECA.

BACKGROUND: Early behavioral intervention to promote development is recommended as the standard of care for preterm infants, yet is not provided in Malawi. One such intervention is H-HOPE (Hospital to Home: Optimizing the Premature Infant's Environment). In US studies, H-HOPE increased mother-preterm infant responsivity at 6-weeks corrected age (CA). Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) improves infant survival and is the standard of care for preterm infants in Malawi. This is the first study to examine whether H-HOPE is feasible and promotes mother-preterm infant responsivity in Malawi, and the first to examine the impact of H-HOPE when KMC is the standard of care. METHOD: This pilot was conducted in a KMC unit using a prospective cohort comparison design. Because the unit is an open room without privacy, random assignment would have led to contamination of the control cohort. H-HOPE includes participatory guidance for mothers and Massage + , a 15 min multisensory session provided by mothers twice daily. H-HOPE began when infants were clinically stable and at least 32 weeks postmenstrual age. Mothers participated if they were physically stable and willing to return for follow-up. Mother-preterm infant dyads were video-recorded during a play session at 6-weeks CA. Responsivity was measured using the Dyadic Mutuality Code (DMC). RESULTS: The final sample included 60 H-HOPE + KMC and 59 KMC only mother-preterm infant dyads. Controlling for significant maternal and infant characteristics, the H-HOPE + KMC dyads were over 11 times more likely to have higher responsivity than those in the KMC only dyads (AOR = 11.51, CI = 4.56, 29.04). The only other factor related to higher responsivity was vaginal vs. Caesarian delivery (AOR = 5.44, CI = .096, 30.96). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that H-HOPE can be provided in Malawi. Mother-infant dyads receiving both H-HOPE and KMC had higher responsivity at 6-weeks CA than those receiving KMC only. H-HOPE was taught by nurses in this study, however the nursing shortage in Malawi makes H-HOPE delivery by nurses challenging. Training patient attendants in the KMC unit is a cost-effective alternative. H-HOPE as the standard of care offers benefits to preterm infants and mothers that KMC alone does not provide.

RESUMO

Technology-enabled services (TESs) are clinical interventions that combine technological and human components to provide health services. TESs for mental health are efficacious in the treatment of anxiety and depression and are currently being offered as frontline treatments around the world. It is hoped that these interventions will be able to reach diverse populations across a range of identities and ultimately decrease disparities in mental health treatment. However, this hope is largely unrealized. TESs include both technology and human service components, and we argue that cultural responsivity must be considered in each of these components to help address existing treatment disparities. To date, there is limited guidance on how to consider cultural responsivity within these interventions, including specific targets for the development, tailoring, or design of the technologies and services within TESs. In response, we propose a framework that provides specific recommendations for targets based on existing models, both at the technological component level (informed by the Behavioral Intervention Technology Model) and the human support level (informed by the Efficiency Model of Support). We hope that integrating culturally responsive considerations into these existing models will facilitate increased attention to cultural responsivity within TESs to ensure they are ethical and responsive for everyone.
