RESUMO

To present the results of testicular ultrasonography supported by clinical and hormonal aspects in paediatric patients with Klinefelter syndrome (KS). Prospective analysis of medical files of 20 patients diagnosed with KS between 2016 and 2022. Assessed data included analysis of causes of referral, ultrasound, and clinical characterisation with hormonal evaluation of serum FSH, LH, testosterone, inhibin B, and anti-Müllerian hormone. Non-mosaic Klinefelter syndrome (47, XXY) was diagnosed in 65% of cases (13/20) by the geneticist (including 7 cases prenatally), in 25% (5/20) by the endocrinologist and in 10% (2/20) by the hematologist. Ultrasound assessment revealed bilateral testicular microlithiasis (TM) in all patients. The youngest KS patient with TM was 3 months old. TM patterns have not changed during follow-ups of up to 6 years in any of the patients. In all KS patients markedly reduced echogenicity and in pubertal KS patients, also irregular echostructure of the testes was observed. The hormonal patterns observed in the study group were typical for those already described in KS. Sertoli and Leydig cell function was intact in prepubertal patients and deteriorated after the start of puberty. CONCLUSION: Although the degenerative process in the testicular tissue starts very early in the testes in KS and is reflected in morphological changes seen in ultrasonography, Sertoli and Leydig cell hormonal function is normal in prepubertal KS patients. WHAT IS KNOWN: • So far, normal Leydig and Sertoli cell function was observed in infants and prepubertal KS patients. WHAT IS NEW: • The morphological changes in the testes in KS may already be seen in early infancy.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of testicular microlithiasis and its association with sperm retrieval rates and histopathology in men with non-obstructive azoospermia. METHODS: A total of 120 men underwent scrotal ultrasonography prior to microsurgical testicular sperm extraction. Sperm retrieval rate, testicular histopathology, testicular size, reproductive hormones, karyotyping, Y chromosome microdeletion analyses, and presence of varicoceles and hydroceles were compared between men with and without testicular microlithiasis. RESULTS: The total sperm retrieval rate was 40%. Ten men with normal spermatogenesis were excluded. The remaining 110 men with non-obstructive azoospermia were analyzed and testicular microlithiasis was detected in 16 of them (14.5%). The sperm retrieval rate in that subgroup was only 6.2% (1/16) as opposed to 39.4% (37/94) in men with non-obstructive azoospermia and no evidence of microlithiasis (P = 0.009). The mean right and left testicular diameters were significantly lower in the microlithiasis group (P = 0.04). On multivariate logistic regression analysis, the presence of mictolithiasis (odds ratio 7.4, 95% confidence interval 2.3, 12.2; P = 0.01) was the only independent predictor of unsuccessful sperm retrieval. The 15 patients with microlithiasis and without successful sperm extraction were diagnosed by histopathology as having Sertoli cells only. The 16th patient with successful sperm retrieval had a histopathology of mixed atrophy and was diagnosed with Klinefelter syndrome. CONCLUSION: The presence of testicular microlithiasis is associated with low sperm retrieval rates among our cohort of men with non-obstructive azoospermia undergoing scrotal ultrasonography prior to microsurgical testicular sperm extraction. Larger, prospective studies should be conducted to confirm these findings.

PURPOSE: To analyze the association of testicular pathologies with TM. METHOD: The retrospective study included pediatric patients who underwent scrotal ultrasonography (US) due to complaints, including testicular pain, discomfort, swelling, scrotal redness in our clinic between June 2020 and January 2022. The patients were divided into two groups. Group 1; patients were diagnosed with testicular pathology or presented with testicular pain. Group 2; patients without testicular pathology or complaints. Patients were also classified as having undescended testis, epididymo-orchitis, varicocele and testicular pain without testicular pathology in group 1. Group 1 and subgroups of group 1 were compared with group 2 for the presence of TM. RESULTS: A total of 516 patients were included in the study. Median age at the time of US examination was 24 months (range 1 month-17 years). There was no significant difference between groups 1 and 2, and boys with undescended testis and group 2 with regard to the presence of TM (p = 0.85, p = 0.55, respectively). TM was significantly higher in patients who had undergone orchiopexy and presented with testicular pain compared to group 2 (p = 0. 013, p = 0.03, respectively). TM was not detected in patients with epididymo-orchitis, varicocele. CONCLUSION: We found no association between TM and testicular pathologies. Testicular pain may be a symptom of microlithiasis.

STUDY QUESTION: Is there an association of testicular microlithiasis (TM) and its severity with testicular dysfunction in men from infertile couples? SUMMARY ANSWER: The presence of ≥5 testis microcalcifications per sonogram at the scrotal ultrasonography (US) of infertile males was associated with a more severe testicular dysfunction as compared to males with limited, or without, TM. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: TM, representing an incidental finding in the scrotal US, is associated with male infertility and a higher risk for testicular cancer as compared to that in infertile males without TM. Still, there are unresolved questions on the relation between TM severity and testicular dysfunction in infertile men, as well as on the identification of risk factors for TM. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION: This study was an observational, retrospective, case-control investigation involving males who underwent clinical evaluation, measurement of reproductive hormones, seminal analysis and scrotal US as part of diagnostic work-up for couple infertility at an andrology clinic, between January 2004 and December 2018. One hundred patients, out of the 2112 scored men, were found to have TM during the US evaluation. One hundred male partners from 100 infertile couples without TM, comprising the control group, were selected through a matched analysis by age and date of evaluation to reduce the confounding effect of both age and technique variability all along the long period of observation. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS: TM was defined as limited TM (LTM) or classical TM (CTM), when the maximum number of hyperecogenic spots per sonogram was <5 or ≥5, respectively. CTM, LTM and control groups were compared for clinical variables, serum levels of FSH, LH, and total testosterone, as well for semen parameters and scrotal US features. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE: After the exclusion of cases with testicular nodules to eliminate the possible confounding effect of testis cancer on testicular dysfunction, cases with CTM showed a lower mean testis volume (P = 0.03) and a lower sperm concentration (P = 0.03) as compared to the other two groups. A higher FSH level was observed in the CTM group compared to the LTM group (P = 0.02) and in controls (P = 0.009). The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that only a smaller testicle volume exhibited an independent significant association with a higher odds of detecting CTM (odds ratio = 0.84, 95% CI: 0.75-0.94; P = 0.02). No significant differences were observed between groups in the prevalence of risk factors for testicular cancer, or in the prevalence of conditions associated with TM. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION: The retrospective design of the study did not allow conclusions to be drawn about the possible underlying links in the associations of TM with defective spermatogenesis. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS: Males from infertile couples who exhibit a reduced testicular volume should undergo scrotal US, independent of sperm parameters, to exclude CTM and, eventually, testis cancer, although the association of CTM and current or future testis cancer risk is not yet clear. Evidence is provided here demonstrating that the presence of LTM has no clinical relevance in males from infertile couples. With the increasing awareness of men's health, more and more clinical studies are reported on the relationship of testicular microlithiasis (TM) with male infertility. TM is a relatively rare disease characterized by multiple microcalcifications (<3 mm) in the seminiferous tubules of the testis. This review summarizes the findings in the studies of the diagnosis, epidemiology, correlation with male fertility, treatment, and follow-up of TM in recent years. Many researches show that TM has a certain correlation with the decline of male fertility, which, however, is not identically agreed on at home and abroad. As for the treatment of TM complicated with male infertility, there is still a lack of effective and reliable drugs and strategies and a need for many basic and clinical studies.

INTRODUCTION: Testicular microlithiasis (TML) was shown to be associated with an increased risk of infertility. However, the association of TML with spermatogenesis in patients with unexplained infertility is still unknown. In this study, we therefore investigated the effect of TML on hormones and sperm parameters in a large cohort of infertile men without major factors for impaired fertility and azoospermic men serving for comparison. METHODS: Over a period of 10 years, we retrospectively analyzed 2,914 patients who attended our centre with the diagnosis of unexplained infertility and sperm count >1 million/ejaculate, as well as 281 patients with unexplained azoospermia. From the 2,914 patients, we identified 218 patients with TML as revealed by ultrasound imaging. Further, 26 out of 281 azoospermic patients showed TML. Subsequently, we performed a thorough analysis of reproductive parameters and their association with TML. RESULTS: The overall incidence of TML in patients with unexplained infertility and in unexplained azoospermic men was 7.5 and 9.3%, respectively. Patients with unexplained infertility and TML showed significantly smaller testicular volume, elevated FSH level, and lower sperm count and motility. Impaired spermatogenesis was not associated with the amount of microlithiasis, considered after classification into subgroups (<5 vs. ≥5 microliths/testis), and instead was associated with presence or absence of TML. TML in unexplained infertile azoospermic patients was not significantly associated neither with andrological reproductive parameters nor with sperm retrieval rate in microsurgical testicular sperm extraction. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: TML itself, and not the number of microliths, is associated with impaired spermatogenesis in patients with unexplained infertility. The parameter TML alone is not sufficient to predict spermatogenic impairment in azoospermic patients. This study highlights the importance of ultrasound imaging in the clinical evaluation of infertile men, taking into account that TML is a negative co-factor for male fertility.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the prevalence of testicular microlithiasis and the relationship between testicular microlithiasis, semen parameters and endocrinological profiles in healthy newlywed men trying for first-time pregnancy. METHODS: Men visiting Juntendo University Urayasu Hospital, Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, or D Clinic Tokyo, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan, for a first-time examination of fertility underwent scrotal examination, semen analysis and blood tests. Testicular volume measured by orchidometer, semen parameters measured by the Makler counting chamber and endocrinological profiles were compared between men with testicular microlithiasis and without testicular microlithiasis. The correlation between sperm concentration and the number of calcifications, and sperm motility and the number of calcifications, were investigated. RESULTS: Of 739 men, 60 (8.1%) were diagnosed as having testicular microlithiasis. Among them, testicular volume, semen volume and motility were lower than those in the men without testicular microlithiasis. Luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone levels were higher in those with than those without testicular microlithiasis. The sperm concentration correlated negatively with the number of calcifications. There was no significant correlation between sperm motility and the number of calcifications. CONCLUSION: Herein, we report the prevalence of testicular microlithiasis in healthy newlywed men. Furthermore, our findings suggest that semen parameters in men with severe testicular microlithiasis tend to be worse.

INTRODUCTION: There are no clear recommendations on how patients with testicular microlithiasis should be followed up. The aim of our systematic review is to give clinical guidelines based on the evidence in the literature. METHODS: A web search was conducted during February 2018 based on Pubmed data, Embase and Cochrane database. The eligibility of articles was defined using the PICOS method, in concordance with the PRISMA recommendations. RESULTS: Fifty three articles were selected for our final synthesis. Our review highlighted an association between testicular microlithiasis and the already known risk factors of testicular germ cell tumor. The presence of testicular microlithiasis in patients with such risk factors increases more the risk of cancer. In the absence of risk factors, the risk to develop testicular cancer is similar to the risk in general population. CONCLUSION: In patients at risk to develop testicular cancer, observation versus testicular biopsy is debatable. We recommend an individualized approach based on the age of the patient, the presence of concurrent features of testicular dysgenesis syndrome, the fertility of the couple, the desire of paternity and the ultrasound pattern (bilateral and clustered vs. unilateral and limited).

BACKGROUND: It has been described that the incidence of testicular microlithiasis is high in several congenital disorders which may be associated with testicular impairment and infertility. Several reports have shown that a prepubertal or pubertal hormonal abnormality in the pituitary-gonadal axis was identified in some patients with hypospadias that is one of the most common disorders of sex development. However, exact prevalence or risk factors of testicular microlithiasis in patients with hypospadias have not reported so far. In the present study, to clarify the prevalence and risk factors of testicular microlithiasis in patients with hypospadias, a retrospective chart review was performed. METHODS: Children with hypospadias who underwent testicular ultrasonography between January 2010 and April 2016 were enrolled in the present study. Severity of hypospadias was divided into mild and severe. The prevalence and risk factors of testicular microlithiasis or classic testicular microlithiasis were examined. RESULTS: Of 121 children, mild and severe hypospadias were identified in 66 and 55, respectively. Sixteen children had undescended testis. Median age at ultrasonography evaluation was 1.7 years old. Testicular microlithiasis and classic testicular microlithiasis were documented in 17 children (14.0%) and 8 (6.6%), respectively. Logistic regression analysis revealed that presence of undescended testis was only a significant factor for testicular microlithiasis and classic testicular microlithiasis. The prevalence of testicular microlithiasis or classic testicular microlithiasis was significantly higher in children with undescended testis compared to those without undescended testis (testicular microlithiasis; 43.8% versus 9.5% (p = 0.002), classic testicular microlithiasis; 37.5% versus 1.9% (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The current study demonstrated that the presence of undescended testis was only a significant risk factor for testicular microlithiasis or classic testicular microlithiasis in patients with hypospadias. As co-existing undescended testis has been reported as a risk factor for testicular dysfunction among patients with hypospadias, the current findings suggest that testicular microlithiasis in children with hypospadias may be associated with impaired testicular function. Conversely, patients with isolated HS seem to have lower risks for testicular impairment. Further investigation with longer follow-up will be needed to clarify these findings.

BACKGROUND: Testicular microlithiasis (TML) is thought to cause microstructural changes in the parenchyma of the testis, but it is difficult to demonstrate this by ultrasonography. It may be possible to evaluate microstructural changes in the testis by Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI) elastography, which measures tissue stiffness. PURPOSE: To assess the tissue stiffness of testicles of children with TML and to compare them with the healthy control group. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between November 2015 and May 2016, 25 pediatric patients with TML and 24 healthy children were enrolled in the study (mean age for TML and control group 6.7 ± 3.17 and 7.9 ± 4.18 years, respectively). Testicular volumes and mean shear wave velocity (SWV) values were calculated and compared with each other in both groups. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in average testicular volumes between the TML group and the control group (1.14 cm3, 1.21 cm3, respectively; P = 0.986). Mean SWV of the testicles with TML and normal testicles with control group was 1.18 ± 0.22 cm/s and 0.88 ± 0.11 cm/s, respectively. The SWV of the testicles with TML was higher than the normal testicles and this was statistically significant ( P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: This study has shown that tissue stiffness in patients with TML is increased compared to the normal population. ARFI elastography helps the early detection of microstructural changes in TML and can be used for screening and follow-up.

At the European Society of Paediatric Radiology (ESPR) annual meeting 2017 in Davos, Switzerland, the ESPR Abdominal (gastrointestinal and genitourinary) Imaging Task Force set out to complete the suggestions for paediatric abdominal imaging and its procedural recommendations. Some final topics were addressed including how to perform paediatric gastrointestinal ultrasonography. Based on the recent approval of ultrasound (US) contrast agents for paediatric use, important aspects of paediatric contrast-enhanced US were revisited. Additionally, the recent developments concerning the use and possible brain deposition of gadolinium as a magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent were presented. The recommendations for paediatric use were reissued after considering all available evidence. Recent insights on the incidence of neoplastic lesions in children with testicular microlithiasis were discussed and led to a slightly altered recommendation.

Stem cells are influenced by their surrounding microenvironment, or niche. In the testis, Sertoli cells are the key niche cells directing the population size and differentiation fate of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). Failure to properly regulate SSCs leads to infertility or germ cell hyperplasia. Several Sertoli cell-expressed genes, such as Gdnf and Cyp26b1, have been identified as being indispensable for the proper maintenance of SSCs in their niche, but the pathways that modulate their expression have not been identified. Although we have recently found that constitutively activating NOTCH signaling in Sertoli cells leads to premature differentiation of all prospermatogonia and sterility, suggesting that there is a crucial role for this pathway in the testis stem cell niche, a true physiological function of NOTCH signaling in Sertoli cells has not been demonstrated. To this end, we conditionally ablated recombination signal binding protein for immunoglobulin kappa J region (Rbpj), a crucial mediator of NOTCH signaling, in Sertoli cells using Amh-cre. Rbpj knockout mice had: significantly increased testis sizes; increased expression of niche factors, such as Gdnf and Cyp26b1; significant increases in the number of pre- and post-meiotic germ cells, including SSCs; and, in a significant proportion of mice, testicular failure and atrophy with tubule lithiasis, possibly due to these unsustainable increases in the number of germ cells. We also identified germ cells as the NOTCH ligand-expressing cells. We conclude that NOTCH signaling in Sertoli cells is required for proper regulation of the testis stem cell niche and is a potential feedback mechanism, based on germ cell input, that governs the expression of factors that control SSC proliferation and differentiation.

BACKGROUND: Calcifying nanoparticles (NPs) have been proven to be associated with a variety of pathological calcification and previously detected in semen samples from patients with testicular microlithiasis (TM). The present study was designed to test the hypothesis if human-derived NPs could invade the seminiferous tubules and induce TM phenotype. METHODS: The animals were divided into three groups. Normal saline (0.2 mL) was injected into the proximal right ductus deferens in group A as a control group. The experimental groups, B and C received Escherichia coli (106 cfu/mL, 0.2 mL) and human-derived NPs suspension (0.2 mL), respectively. Rats were euthanized in 2 batches at 2 and 4 weeks. Testicular pathology, ultrastructure and inflammatory mediators were assessed. RESULTS: Chronic inflammatory changes were observed at 2 weeks in both groups B and C. Moreover, the innermost layer of sperm cells were structurally impaired and a zone of concentrically layered collagen fibers around the human NPs body was formed in the lumen of the seminiferous tubule in group C only, in which TM phenotype of remarkable calcification surrounded by cellular debris within the seminiferous tubules was built at 4 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: The results obtained from our study suggested a potential pathogenic effect of NPs in the development of calcification within the seminiferous tubules, which should be addressed in the future studies.

RESUMO

In this pictorial essay the authors review the normal sonographic gray-scale and Doppler appearance of the pediatric scrotum with an emphasis on technique. The authors present an update on ultrasound diagnosis and outcomes in testicular torsion and differentiation from other acute scrotal processes, as well as sonographic imaging of testicular microlithiasis and uncommon or atypical scrotal masses including splenogonadal fusion, polyorchidism, meconium peritonitis and epidermoid cyst. Further, the authors discuss testicular neoplasms in the context of testicular microlithiasis.

To investigate the influence of testicular microlithiasis (TM) on the outcomes of in vitro fertilisation (IVF), we retrospectively reviewed the ultrasonography results of the TM patients who underwent IVF treatment in our hospital. They were classified as classic-TM (CTM) or limited-TM (LTM) comparing with patients without TM (Non-TM). Semen parameters, rates of fertilisation, normal fertilisation, good embryos and clinical pregnancy were analysed. The Non-TM group showed higher percentage of morphologically normal spermatozoa than the CTM or LTM group (4.08 ± 2.07 versus 3.40 ± 2.00 versus 3.04 ± 1.66, p = .003) while the other general semen parameters were comparable. The LTM group showed higher rate of fertilisation than the CTM group (85.10% versus 81.12%, p = .044). Moreover, the rates of normal fertilisation of Non-TM (62.47%) and LTM (66.32%) group were significantly higher than the CTM (58.02%) group (p = .027 and p = .001 respectively). There were 333 embryo transfer cycles in total (including 222 fresh and 111 frozen). The overall clinical pregnancy rate was 54.95%, 58.33% and 64.12% in the group of CTM, LTM and Non-TM respectively. However, no statistically significant difference was obtained (p = .326). Our results suggest that TM may have influence on the IVF outcomes. The extent of microlithiasis correlates inversely with the rates of fertilisation and normal fertilisation.

RESUMO

With the increased attention to men's health and development of ultrasound imaging technology, clinicians are achieving a better understanding of testicular microlithiasis. This review presents an overview on recent studies of the etiology, pathogenesis, and imaging characteristics of testicular microlithiasis, its impact on male reproductive function, and its relation ship with testis tumors and other related diseases, as well as its treatment strategies and follow-up proposals, aiming to provide some new evidence for further understanding and management of the disease.

OBJECTIVE: Ultrasound surveillance of patients with testicular microlithiasis (TM) has been recommended because of the reported association between TM and testicular cancer (TC). The purpose of this review is to summarize what is known about TM and discuss recent recommendations. CONCLUSION: The most recent recommendations do not support the use of routine ultrasound surveillance for patients with TM who are at low risk for TC. A template for possible use in reporting TM is also provided.

BACKGROUND: Ultrasonography of the testis is a well-established diagnostic tool in detection of testicular microlithiasis (TML). Operator-dependent diagnostic variation related to skill, knowledge, and operator consistency are factors that influence detection of TML. PURPOSE: To determine inter- and intraobserver agreement for detection of TML using ultrasonography for a group of physicians with no or limited experience compared to a group of experience senior radiologists. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between May and September 2014 a total of six observers evaluated 34 patients scrotal ultrasonography recorded from September to December 2013. The observers were blinded to patient history and previous ultrasonography. Three of the observers had no or limited experience with detection of TML, and three of the observers had more than 15 years of experience. Each observer reviewed all the scrotal ultrasonography recordings twice with a time interval of 3 months. RESULTS: The inter-observer agreement showed substantial agreement and up to almost perfect agreement (κ = 0.86). Both the experienced and less experienced observers had a higher agreement in detecting and grading TML in their second reading. CONCLUSION: The ultrasonography grading system of TML in this study showed to be reproducible, with an inter- and intraobserver agreement ranging between substantial agreement and up to almost perfect agreement with many years of experience not necessarily being essential.

Testicular microlithiasis (TM), a rare condition characterized by calcification within the seminiferous tubules, is associated with benign and malignant disorders of the testis. We review current practices of following up pediatric patients diagnosed TM incidentally on scrotal ultrasonography (US). We analyzed retrospectively patient characteristics, family history, indications for US, pathological features, US findings, outcome, and follow-up. At our institution, 2875 scrotal US examinations were performed on 2477 children with various scrotal complaints from 2008 to 2015. Testicular microlithiasis was detected in 81 patients (i.e., an incidence of 3.27%). Every 6 months, each patient underwent a clinical and ultrasonographic evaluation as well as serum tumor markers determination to detect a potential malignancy. Seventy-eight patients who had undergone scrotal US at least twice were included in this study. We evaluated the US studies for the type of TM (diffuse and focal) and change in follow-up studies. Testicular microlithiasis was typically diffuse (n = 56, 71.8%) and bilateral (n = 45, 57.7%), and it was detected the most frequently in the 9-11-year age group (27 patients, 34.6%). The most common comorbid conditions included undescended testes (31 patients, 39.7%) and hydrocele (11 patients, 14.1%). We found that serum tumor markers were within normal limits both at diagnosis and upon follow-up. No testicular tumors or new abnormal symptoms developed during the clinical follow-up. There is no convincing evidence that TM alone is premalignant in a pediatric population. In terms of follow-up, we advise regular self-examinations and annual US in the absence of risk factors.

PURPOSE: To determine the prevalence of testicular microlithiasis and its correlation with Doppler parameters of testicular arteries and sperm function. METHODS: Reports of 1,200 consecutive scrotal sonographic examinations performed at our hospital were reviewed. Patients diagnosed with testicular microlithiasis were recalled for detailed scrotal sonographic examination, including Doppler sonography and sperm function. The same examinations were performed in an age-matched control group and the findings compared. RESULTS: Testicular microlithiasis was found in 64 cases (5.3%). Doppler sonography showed mean resistance index, Vmax, and Vmin of 61.1 ± 9.3%, 18.2 ± 4.7 cm/s, and 7.7 ± 2.3 cm/s, respectively, in the testicular microlithiasis group versus 62.4 ± 10.4%, 18.4 ± 5.7 cm/s, and 7.3 ± 2.4 cm/s, respectively, in the control group (p = 0.49, 0.84 and 0.35, respectively). Sperm function tests demonstrated sperm count, motility, and normal morphology (normal oval head) of 29.6 ± 20.4 × 10(6) /mL, 35.3 ± 16.2%, and 44.4 ± 12%, respectively, in patients with testicular microlithiasis versus 54.3 ± 22.4 × 10(6) /mL, 50.2% ± 14.4%, and 66.4 ± 11.6% in control subjects (p < 0.02). CONCLUSIONS: Prevalence of testicular microlithiasis of 5.3% in Jordanian patients is similar to what has been reported in the literature. Testicular microlithiasis does not have a significant effect on Doppler parameters of testicular arteries. The apparent impairment of sperm function in patients with testicular microlithiasis warrants further studies. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Clin Ultrasound 44:474-479, 2016.
