Objective Using infrared spectroscopy to analyze three kinds of lignum Chinese medicine to provide a theoretical basis for the establishment of medicinal overall quality evaluation system. Methods Functional groups identification, Fourier Transform-infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and the second derivative infrared spectroscopy (SD-IR) could be applicable to analyze and identify the overall chemical composition of three kinds of lignum Chinese medicine. Results The main chemical components of Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (ALR), Dalbergiae Odoriferae Lignum (DOL) and Sappan Lignum (SL) were cellulose, lignin and aromatics. The main chemical compositions of Sappan Lignum (SL) were cellulose, lignin and aromatics. The differences in FT-IR and SD-IR of DOL and SL indicated that they had different aromatic compounds. Conclusion Infrared spectroscopy can be used as a simple and accurate quality control method of three kinds of lignum Chinese medicine.

Aquilaria agallocha, an important medicinal plant is one of the most widely growing species of the family Thymelaeaceae. It is a precious plant on the earth because of its spacious medicinal properties. The present review provides significant information regarding its phytochemical investigations, pharmacological activities and medicinal properties as a folk medicine to treat several diseases like inflammation, arthritis, vomiting, cardiac disorders, cough, asthma, leprosy, anorexia, headache and gout. The plant has been reported to possess several pharmacological activities such as antinociceptive, antimicrobial, laxative, anti-oxidant, sedative, antihyperglycaemic, thrombolytic, antidiabetic, ulcer protective, anticancerous, antidiarrhoeal, hepatoprotective and CNS activities. Every portion of the plant has beneficial properties that can serve the mankind. The entire plant can be extensively studied for further future prospectives.

【Objective】To devise the optimal method and the optimal water content for the storage of seeds of Aquilaria sinensis(Lour.) Gilg..【Methods】The seeds of Aquilaria sinensis(Lour.) Gilg.were stored in plastic bag, drying apparatus, wet sand and dry sand separately. And then the germination capacity of the seeds with different water content was detected at 4℃ and room temperature(30℃) in different time.【Results】The germination capacity of Aquilaria sinensis(Lour.) Gilg.decreased with the prolongation of storage time and with the decrease of water content. The seeds with water content being 9.34% and 7.35% had a higher germination capacity when stored at 4℃ for 35 days than that stored at room temperature. The fresh seeds stored in wet sand sprouted and the seeds stored in drying apparatus and dry sand had lower germination capacity and went mouldy.【Conclusion】Low temperature and moderate water content are benificial to the storage of the seeds of Aquilaria sinensis(Lour.) Gilg..
