Objective: this study evaluated burnout symptoms among physicians and nurses before, during and after COVID-19 care. Method: a cross-sectional comparative study in the Pulmonary Care unit of a tertiary-level public hospital. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used. Results: 280 surveys were distributed across three periods: before (n=80), during (n=105) and after (n=95) COVID-19 care; 172 surveys were returned. The response rates were 57.5%, 64.8% and 61.1%, respectively. The prevalence of severe burnout was 30.4%, 63.2% and 34.5% before, during and after COVID-19 care (p<0.001). Emotional exhaustion (p<0.001) and depersonalization (p=0.002) symptoms were more prevalent among nurses than among physicians. Severe burnout was more prevalent in women, nurses and night shift staff. Conclusion: the high prevalence of burnout doubled in the first peak of hospital admissions and returned to pre-pandemic levels one month after COVID-19 care ended. Burnout varied by gender, shift and occupation, with nurses among the most vulnerable groups. Focus on early assessment and mitigation strategies are required to support nurses not only during crisis but permanently.

Burnout syndrome is a public health problem, a pathological entity that affects professionals who work directly with people, such as health professionals. It is currently described as being composed of three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal fulfillment, and its evaluation is carried out through the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire. The present study aims to measure, by means of the aforementioned instrument, the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in pediatric interns of the Universidad Católica del Maule and find out which is the most frequent characteristic that the pathology presents, in relation to the 3 subgroups. It corresponds to a descriptive and cross-sectional study, in which the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire was applied to a sample of 18 pediatric inmates of the Regional Hospital of Talca, together with an informed consent to each participant. The results showed that the burnout syndrome is present in 11,11% of pediatric interns, in addition it was observed that a high percentage manifests alterations in the studied subdimensions, which makes us conclude that attention should be given urgently to this problem, in order to guarantee mental health support to those who need it.

Objective: To evaluate the burnout syndrome (BS) in general surgeons. Material and Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out in our hospital in August 2021. The sample consisted of 56 health professionals that included residents and specialists in general surgery who provided service in the context of COVID-19 Results: The prevalence of burnout was 71%, the mean age was 34 years and the residents were the most affected (62.5%). Sex was 82.5% in males and 17.5% in females. Of the total evaluated, 23 are married and 17 are single, with a predominance of surgeons with children (60%). Discussion: Among the few studies published on BS in health workers in times of COVID-19, the following are located as possible predisposing factors: sleep deprivation, intrinsic occupational biological risk, the forced quarantine that patients have to undergo. out-of-home health workers and ethical dilemmas in patient care decision-making. However, a study has shown that the most important stressors linked to BS are the lack of personal protective equipment, the fear of contagion of COVID-19 and the fear of infecting family members. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of BS in general surgeons in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The most affected were young male residents, married, with children and with low income.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between the performance of tests to detect COVID-19 and signs of psychological distress, perceived stress and burnout among health professionals on the frontline of the pandemic in a general hospital. METHODS: Prospective mixed-approach study using SRQ-20, PSS, OBI and in-depth interviews in a series of 3 interviews throughout 2020. RESULTS: Worrying prevalences of high scores of SRQ20, Burnout and Perceived Stress occurred on the three interviews and the number of tests performed increased during the study period, but there was no association between outcomes and testing to detect COVID- 19. Fear of contracting the disease or being a transmitter of the virus appeared as the main stressors for health professionals, maintained despite testing. CONCLUSION: In this group, tests performed were not sufficient to modify the psychosocial effects of the front line activity on health professionals.

Resultados: a resiliência no trabalho apresentou correlação inversa ao desgaste emocional (r= -0,545; p=0,01) e à despersonalização (r= -0,419; p=0,01) e direta à realização profissional (r= 0,680; p=0,01).

Abstract Objective: to analyze the relationship between the Burnout dimensions and the work resilience of intensive care Nursing professionals in the COVID-19 pandemic in four hospitals from southern Brazil. Method: this is a multicenter and cross-sectional study, composed of 153 nurses and nursing technicians of the Intensive Care Units. Sociodemographic, health and work-related questions were collected, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory and Resilience at Work Scale 20 instruments were applied. The data were submitted to descriptive analysis and to bivariate and partial correlations (network analysis). Results: work resilience presented an inverse correlation to emotional exhaustion (r=-0.545; p=0.01) and depersonalization (r=-0.419; p=0.01) and a direct one to professional achievement (r=0.680; p=0.01). The variable with the greatest influence on the correlation network was the perception of the impact of the pandemic on mental health. Conclusion: resilience interferes in the emotional exhaustion and low professional achievement domains of Burnout. Emotional exhaustion is conducted through minor psychological disorders, with an impact on the workers' physical and mental health variables. The development of institutional resilience should be encouraged in order to moderate the illness.

This study aimed to understand the experience of bank workers concerning the relationships between work organization and mental health. Focal groups were conducted in which bank workers from different cities of the state of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, participated. The topics of discussion in the groups sought to understand how workers experience their work processes. The group sessions were transcribed and submitted to qualitative content analysis, resulting in three major categories: work meaning, work management, and work and the process of falling ill. It was found that the meaning of the work presents itself primarily as a mean of subsistence; and that the, excessive high, goals contribute to drive workers to give up their ethical values. The psychic suffering caused by work influences interpersonal relationships, impoverishing them in the affective point of view. The need of political discussion about the relations between work and health/illness was evidenced. From this study, the collective action and the recovery of ties of solidarity as a form of resistance in face of individualizing and alienating management strategies emerge as a goal

This study aimed to identify the predictive power of the Work Design (WD) variables on Burnout Syndrome (BS). The sample consisted of 300 professionals, 188 from the field of education and 112 from health care. Two instruments were used in this research, a reduced version of the Work Design Questionnaire (WDQ) and the Brazilian version of the Spanish Burnout Syndrome Inventory (SBI). The results showed that in both professional categories, the factors of work design are predictors of the 4 dimensions of BS, especially factors related to social and task characteristics. In the education field, characteristics of knowledge required by work appear as predictors of only psychological exhaustion; and in health care professionals, as predictors of psychological exhaustion and decreased Enthusiasm towards the job. Implications of these findings will be discussed in terms of their applicability in interventions to prevent BS based on work redesign actions. (AU)

Introduction: The study had as its object the Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) in nursing professionals who worked in the Central Sterile Supply Departments (CSSD) and as a research question, whether there is an association between sociodemographic, occupational, health, and lifestyle variables and the presence of MSDs in professionals working in CSSD? Objectives: To analyze the implications of CSSD work on the occurrence of MSDs and pain in nursing professionals working in CSSD; and the specific objectives: Identify the presence of MSDs in nursing professionals working in CSSD; Identify the presence, location and intensity of pain in nursing professionals working in CSSD; To analyze the association of sociodemographic, work and health characteristics with the presence of MSDs. To analyze the the presence of pain with MSDs, in nursing professionals working in CSSD; Discuss MSDs in nursing professionals from the perspective of Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) at work in CSSD. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive exploratory study with a quantitative approach. The study site was the Central Sterile Supply Departments of a High Complexity Oncology Center (HCOC), in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The study population consisted of 36 nursing professionals. A questionnaire was applied to obtain the sociodemographic, work, lifestyle, health and work environment profiles and the diagram of painful areas by corlett and manenica (1980). Statistical analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0, Program R version 2.7.1, Microsoft Excel ® and the significance level used was 5%. Results: there was a predominance of females (87.5%), non-white (54.2%), living without a partner (62.5%), with high school education level (41.7%), with children (70.8%). The prevalence of MSDs was 66.7% of the participants. When the characteristics of work were associated MSDs, it was observed that 91.7% of the professionals were nursing assistants/technicians, working the day shift (70.8%), 12-hour on-duty (62.5%), used public transport to work (77.3%), spent an average of 69.6 minutes to get to work and had worked at the CSSD between 1 and 5 years (62.5%). It was highlighted that 79.2% of the participants reported that they were "always" in the standing position to carry out activities at the CSSD; Those who picked up weight represented 54.2% of the participants, those who considered the work "repetitive" were 87.5% of the participants and those who reported that the work performed was "tiring" represented 95.8% of the participants; Participants who said that "they did not consider the work environment to be ergonomically suitable for carrying out activities" accounted for 91.7%. Regarding the pain complaint, 75.0% would refer as "present" in the initial assessment and in the final assessment, 95.8%. As for intensity, 50.0% reported mild pain in the initial assessment and 35.3% acute/very acute pain in the final assessment. As for the location of pain, the lumbar spine region corresponded to 50% of the participants who reported pain in this region in the initial assessment. In the final evaluation, there was the presence of pain in the regions of the lumbar spine again, together with the leg/foot region and they corresponded equally to 83.3% of the participants, followed by the neck region with 70.8%. Conclusion: It was concluded that there is a strong relationship between the work carried out at the CSSD, involvement by MSDs and the presence of pain in various regions of the body, requiring a look towards the prevention of occupational exposure of a musculoskeletal order. Educational actions and labor gymnastics can be adopted, as well as management control actions to minimize the physical overload caused by rework and thus prevent the onset of MSDs in the long term, due to the specificity of the work carried out in this sector.

Burnout is a psychological syndrome generated as a consequence of prolonged exposure to interpersonal stressors at work. Maslach and Jackson (1976) defined it as a syndrome of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low personal fulfillment; that occurs in individuals who work with people, damaging their quality of life and worsening their care work. There is growing concern about the presence of this syndrome in educational environment of medical schools. Given this reality, it was decided to make a diagnosis of the current situation of our residents of the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Maule (UCM). A validated and anonymous survey is carried out to all graduate students of different medical specialties to determine the presence of this syndrome. The results showed that burnout is present in 14% of our graduate students. Furthermore, it was observed that a high percentage of them manifest isolated characteristics of this syndrome; which leads us to conclude that we must work urgently to improve educational environments in our clinical field at Hospital Regional de Talca.
