To evaluate the aptitude and conduct of dentistry students regarding the care of patients with visual and hearing impairments. This is an observational, cross-sectional study. Data collection was carried out using a structured questionnaire and the sample consisted of 88 students from the 5th, 7th and 9th period, enrolled in some clinical discipline, of the Dentistry course at a private institution in the state of Pernambuco. The collected data were tabulated and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with a significance level of 5%. Less than half of the students feel able to care for patients with these needs, regardless of the period evaluated. A small portion has some kind of social/family contact with the visually and hearing impaired, but the fact that they have contact did not significantly change their ability to carry out the consultation. Likewise, having prior information on the subject did not significantly influence the students' aptitude during dental care. Most students do not feel able and safe to care for patients with visual and hearing impairments and that the fact of having a family member and/or relative with this type of disability and having received prior information on the subject does not increase the safety of the students. students.

Direct composite resin restoration are widely used in dentistry to restore posterior teeth. However, when there is large coronary destruction, that the distance from the isthmus exceeds two- thirds of the intercuspal distance, indirect composite resin restorations are indicated. This study aimed to report the analysis of a dental record of a patient who received an indirect restoration in composite resin in a badly destroyed posterior tooth. Through the analysis of dental records of patients seen in the disciplines of Supervised Internship of the Dentistry Course at FSG Centro Universitário in the year 2023, the dental record of a patient who attended the FSG dental clinic with fractured amalgam restoration with composite resin repair was selected who had painful symptoms. The diagnostic procedure took place through clinical and radiographic examination, which revealed the indication of replacing the unsatisfactory restoration and carrying out an indirect restoration in composite resin. The aesthetic and functional results presented demonstrated the viability of the indirect composite resin restoration technique for rehabilitating posterior teeth with extensive coronal destruction(AU)

Lesion evaluation through photographs is a common clinical practice and its performance using computational tools is encouraged. Objective: To assess the reliability of the computer program SMART Monitoring (SM) in giving adequate lesion measurements through clinical photography. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 28 patients diagnosed with oral or skin flat lesions. Each lesion was measured twice: clinically and by photographic image. Photographs were taken using a 3D-printed scale as a reference for SM measurements of the total lesional area (mm²) and the two longest axes (length and width) by two different operators. The agreement was evaluated between the axis's measurements of the two operators with the clinic measurements by the Bland-Altman plot. Results: Both operators revealed excellent agreement (ICC=0.98) regarding measurements of the lesion's axes and the total lesional area with no difference between operators. Comparison of the axes' values from SM to clinical measurements were also not different (p=0.82 and p=0.43). The Bland-Altman plot revealed that most mean differences were within the 95% confidence interval. Conclusion: SMART Monitoring proved to be a reliable tool for measuring oral or skin flat lesions on clinical photographs, regarding length, width, and total area measurements. The values obtained using SMART Monitoring presented an excellent agreement with the clinical measurements. (AU)

Introduction: Apical microleakage is one of the main causes of endodontic failure, either due to invasion of microorganisms or periapical fluids into the canal, and only the composition of the type of obturator cement favors its reduction. The objective of this research was to compare the apical microleakage of four types of endodontic cements Endofill, MTA Fillapex, Adseal and Roeko Seal. Materials and methods: The sample consisted of 60 single root premolar teeth that were sectioned at the cement- enamel junction, the biomechanical instrumentation was performed with a rotary technique and irrigation with sodium hypochlorite and edta, randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 15) for each type of cement, the obturation was performed with the lateral condensation technique, at the coronal level it was obturated with base glass ionomer and resin, they were placed in an incubator at 37° submerged in NaCL 0.9% for 5 days until setting. of the cements, to observe the microleakage the India ink filtration method was used and diaph-anization with the Robertson technique. Apical microleakage measurements were observed using the Stereomicroscope. Results: The average value was lower for the Adseal 0.33 mm cement, followed by the Fillapex 0.87 mm, Roeko Seal 1.00 mm and Endofill 1.30 mm cements respectively. There were sta-tistically significant differences in the apical microleakage of the four endodontic cements (p = 0.00) Conclusions: Adseal cement presented less microfiltration compared to Fillapex, Roeko Seal and Endofill cements

The evolution of treatments in implantology has enable a change in rehabilitation treatments for edentulous patients, making it possible to place fixed prostheses that provide a better quality of life for these patients. In order to ensure good performance and satisfactory longevity, it is essential to maintain an appropriate standard of oral hygiene and professional maintenance. Thus, the objective of this work was to conduct a literature review on the main resources available for cleaning and maintenance of complete fixed prostheses on implants (Branemark protocol), both in the patients' home care and in the professional care provided by the dentist. A nonsystematic electronic search was carried out in the Lilacs, Pubmed/Medline, Scielo, and ScienceDirect databases, crossing the following descriptors: "Oral Hygiene"; "Dental Implants"; "Dental Implantation"; "Maintenance"; "Dental Prosthesis, ImplantSupported"; and "Prosthodontics". Literature review articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, randomized clinical studies, and relevant books on the subject published from 1995 to 2022 were consulted. The literature available indicates that the main instruments recommended for home care are toothbrush, dental floss, interdental brush, oral irrigator, toothpaste, and mouthwash. In the professional dental office, special attention should be given to the instructions given to the patient, as well as to motivate and encourage their engagement in the hygiene routine, in addition to periodontal monitoring, possible screw replacements, and installation of an occlusal splint when necessary. Maintaining adequate oral hygiene is essential for the success of fixed prostheses on implants, and the dentist plays a crucial role, not only in providing periodic patient follow-up, but also in suggesting the most appropriate instruments, instructing on adequate oral hygiene, and motivating the patient to maintain satisfactory oral health(AU)

Abstract People with cognitive disabilities face multiple challenges concerning oral health and frequently show oral tissue decay because of the barriers society imposes upon them, and due to financial issues, professional and family lack of knowledge, limitations regarding access to services, lack of empowering-driven actions, among others. Positive knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding oral health, developed during the course of a lifetime, help in preserving good health. The aim of the current study is to describe oral health knowledge, attitudes and practices in people with cognitive disabilities participating in the Institutional Program for the Inclusion of People with Cognitive Disabilities in Higher Education at the University of Costa Rica (PROIN, in Spanish), during 2021. A descriptive study with mixed focus was performed; a representative sample comprised of 86 students enrolled in PROIN was used for the quantitative approach, while the qualitative approach used a criteria sample along with an opinion sample, limiting size due to information overload. The survey, along with its corresponding questionnaire and the semi-structured interview, were used as data gathering techniques. It was evidenced that certain issues need to be readdressed, such as bleeding gums, the importance of preserving dental pieces, as well, the practice of flossing, which many students expressed difficulties doing. Good attitudes were found, such as dentist visits; however, access barriers for this population must be overthrown. This article showed the importance of training professionals in disabilities as well as developing oral health promotion programs aimed at people with cognitive disabilities.

Introduction. The COVID-19 pandemic affected Colombian dental services from March 2019 to now, but its magnitude is unknown. Objective. To determine dental care coverage in Colombia during the pandemic period and compare these data with the pre-pandemic period 2017-2019. Methods. Dental coverage and consultation services registered in the "Sistema Integrado de Protección Social" or SISPRO from 2017 to 2021 were analyzed. Results. The whole dental service coverage rate was nearly 20% before Covid-19 pandemic and even registered a slight increase from 2017 to 2018 at national and at department levels. This dental national coverage was 31,14% for every 100 habitants in 2019. However, there was a sharp reduction to 17% in 2020 and to 9% in 2021, revealing a clear and negative impact of the pandemic in dental coverage services and in dental emergency services. Conclusion. A decrease in dental coverage during to the COVID-19 pandemic is revealed, with a concomitant reduction in dental emergency consultations during 2020 and 2021 at country level. The consequences of this disruption on the oral and dental epidemiological profile of Colombians is still unknown and might require urgent preventive, promotional and curative care actions to recover the pre-pandemic dental coverage levels.

Desse total, 130 eram pacientes do sexo masculino e do 95 do feminino.

The population in a liberty privation situation, for legal reasons in Brazil, it's composed of men and women adults in the prisional system and young people in educational measures. The right to health of this population is guaranteed by ministerial policies regulated by normative ordinances, which integrate this part of population to the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), with focus on comprehensive, resolutive and continuous quality care. However, there are significant factors that hinder the effective promotion of health, such as structural deficiency, overcrowding, unhealthy and stressful environments, poor diet and unhealthy habits. Therefore, the present study proposed to verify, through a narrative review of the literature, the oral health panorama of this population. The research to compose this review was made in the bibliographic databases PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, including LILACS, Periódicos CAPES and SciELO. Inclusion criteria were used as a linguistic (English and Portuguese), thematic and chronological parameter, published between 2010 and 2020, covering qualitative and quantitative studies, and literature reviews, totalizing 12 articles. It was possible to observe a high demand for oral health care in this group, in promotion and prevention, and a deficit in the provision of services, expressed by limitations in infrastructure, weaknesses in human resources, and by the curative profile of care, evidencing the need to reformulate and strengthen the offer of dental services to these individuals.

Abstract Objective: To describe the challenges pediatric dentists face while caring for their patients during the pandemic. Material and Methods: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted with purposefully sampled pediatric dentists. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews until the content of the collected data reached theoretical saturation. Data were transcribed verbatim, coded, and analyzed using content analyses. Results: Seven participants (four females and three males) between 29 and 50 years participated in the study. Three themes emerged from the analyses: Anxiety and fear; PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and its impact on care delivery; and 3) Behavior management. Conclusion: Dental care delivery was challenging for pediatric dentists. They experienced high anxiety levels and modified their services according to the recommended guidelines while making accommodations to lessen patients' COVID-19-related anxiety. The additional mandated PPE use affected the communication between the dentists and their patients, affecting their dentist-patient bonding.

ABSTRACT Objective: To characterize drug hypersensitivity associated with dental treatments. Material and Methods: Data from 5,302 dental patients extracted from the Faculty of Dental Medicine were used to investigate drug use history, drug hypersensitivity, and associations with oral health outcomes. The chi-square test was used, and values of p ≤ 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: The frequency of patients' self-reported drug hypersensitivity was 26.42% (n = 1,401). The highest frequencies were for opioid/narcotic analgesics (20.84%, n = 292), antibiotics (18.13%, n = 961), and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (10.46%, n = 141). Most of the patients (68.65%, n = 3,640) reported using medications, mostly for cardiovascular disease (43.1%, n = 1,569), for psychiatric/neurological disorders (39.75%, n = 1,447), drugs that affect the endocrine system (32.55%, n= 1,185), and drugs for pain (24.92%, n = 907). Higher drug hypersensitivity frequencies were associated with older White female subjects (p<0.0001). Associations were also identified between drug hypersensitivity and history of the following dental procedures: tooth extractions (p=0.003), root canal treatment (p=0.0004), prosthodontic treatments (p<0.0001), and orthodontic treatments (p=0.007). Conclusion: A high frequency of self-reported drug hypersensitivity in dental patients was found, with a higher occurrence in older White women and those with a history of more extensive and invasive dental care.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess and analyse the pattern of dental treatment services and their characteristics provided to children by evaluating the clinical use of materials and prevalence in material research in a major postgraduate paediatric tertiary care hospital in India over three years. Material and Methods: Institutionally approved retrospective analysis was conducted by auditing the clinical records of 2644 patients who visited and had treatment in the Outpatient and Inpatient Department of Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry from January 2017 to December 2019. Clinical logbooks of postgraduate students were analysed by crosschecking with the department's data warehouse. Results: Out of the 2644 children who had treatment, more than two-thirds of them were in the age group of 4-7 years old. Around 5.6% of the patients were specially-abled children. Extraction (33.5%) was the most common treatment, followed by restorative treatment (29.1%). Endodontic treatment had a prevalence of 19.8%, with a reduced prevalence of preventive treatment care (0.5%). Patients who had traumatic tooth management included 2.8% of the study population. The prevalence of preventive care was found to be 2.1%. The teaching curriculum with theoretical and clinical skill practices was under the country's assigned authority. Conclusion: Despite advancements in paediatric dentistry, more children had extraction treatment with less observed utilization of preventive care. The widening of the training prospectus includes comprehensive care and an amplified focus on preventive care in the academic curriculum of paediatric postgraduates, which is the need of the hour.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze oral health services for pregnant women in the primary health care of a Brazilian metropolis, based on the performance of dentists who integrate these services. Material and Methods: Exploratory, descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted through qualitative and quantitative approaches. A semi-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. This study was conducted in a Brazilian metropolis and included all dentists working in primary health care. The compliance analysis was performed considering access, adherence, group activity and individual dental care dimensions. Open questions were analyzed using the content analysis method and the closed questions were performed using frequency estimates. Bivariate statistics (Chi-square, Fisher's Exact Test, α<0.05) were analyzed through STATA. Results: 260 dentists agreed to participate in this study. Strategies to facilitate the scheduling of pregnant women to dental treatment occur in 93.9% of oral health teams, the main one being the scheduling and/or referral performed by the family health team. In terms of access and adherence to treatment, all variables in these dimensions showed relevant compliance results. The group activity dimension presented moderate compliance percentages, whereas individual care obtained high results, except for referral to radiography. Conclusion: The oral health service was compliant regarding access and adherence to treatment, but showed limitations in individual care and collective activities. Recommendations include improving oral health team coverage and permanent education programs.

ABSTRACT Objective: To address disparities in oral healthcare to allow prioritization of individuals with higher vulnerability. The model seeks to develop a methodology for identifying and classifying vulnerability among CEO users using socioeconomic indicators. Additionally, it aims to establish criteria for access prioritization based on vulnerability profiles, ultimately ensuring that those in greater need receive the specialized oral healthcare they require. Material and Methods: The proposed method leverages two key indicators: the Municipal Social Vulnerability Index (IVS) and the CEO Social Vulnerability Indicator (CEO IVS). CEO IVS is calculated based on CEO user socioeconomic data and compared to the municipality's IVS. The model utilizes a scoring system to classify users' vulnerability levels, allowing for the identification of those most in need of specialized care. The Equality Production Trend Indicator (ITPE-CEO) assesses the alignment between CEO and municipal vulnerability levels, aiding access prioritization. Conclusion: This equity-focused model offers a practical approach to address disparities in oral healthcare access. Vulnerability profiles and socioeconomic factors empower local managers to allocate resources effectively, ensuring that individuals with higher vulnerability receive timely and specialized care. The proposed model promotes inclusivity and responsiveness to community needs, contributing to achieving equitable oral healthcare for all.
