ABSTRACT

Objective:The Chinese pediatric mesh-type reference phantoms were developed and applied in the dose assessment of X-ray radiography. Methods:The 5- and 10-year-old Chinese pediatric mesh-type reference phantoms were developed based on the CT data. Based on the phantoms, the Monte Carlo method was applied to simulate the X-ray radiography to calculate the organ dose conversion coefficient and the effective dose conversion coefficient in different radiography conditions. Results:The 5- and 10-year-old Chinese pediatric mesh-type reference phantoms were developed, and the physical parameters were consistent with the national standard. The differences of the organ mass between the established phantoms and reference data were within 2%. The database of the pediatric chest posteroanterior projection and abdominal anteroposterior projection, tube voltage 60-90 kVp, total filtration 2.5~4 mmAl were simulated, and the difference between the effective dose conversion factor and the literature result was within 3%.Conclusions:The established Chinese pediatric mesh-type reference phantoms can be applied in the studies of radiation protection and clinical medicine and their result can provide an important reference for the dose assessment of the pediatric X-ray radiography.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and trend of human brucellosis in Jinan City of Shandong Province from 2010 to 2019, so as to provide a scientific basis for improving prevention and control strategies and measures. Methods:The brucellosis surveillance data of Jinan City from 2010 to 2019 were obtained from the "Infectious Disease Surveillance System" in "China Information System of Disease Prevention and Control". Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the epidemiological situation and the three distributions (regional distribution, time distribution, population distribution) of cases. Results:A total of 1 882 cases of brucellosis were reported from 2010 to 2019, with an average incidence rate of 2.64/100 000. The incidence of brucellosis increased from 0.13/100 000 to 5.37/100 000, and reported incidence of brucellosis showed a increasing trend (χ 2trend=307.50, P<0.05). The epidemic areas were spread from 7 towns (streets) of 3 counties (districts) to 76 towns (streets) of 12 counties (districts). The cases were reported each month throughout the year with incidence peak period form April to July. The gender of the patients was mainly male, and the sex ratio of male to female was 2.66: 1.00 (1 368 ∶ 514). In terms of age distribution, 30-69 years old was peak age. Farmer was the predominant occupational group. Conclusions:In 2010 to 2019, the incidence of brucellosis in Jinan City has increased and the epidemic areas have expanded year by year. Corresponding measures for brucellosis prevention and control should be developed according to epidemiological characteristics in order to strengthen the capacity of epidemic prevention and control measures.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To evaluate the clinical characteristics and pregnant outcomes of gravidae with COVID-19.@*Methods@#This study involved nine gravidae with COVID-19 admitted to the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University from January 22 to February 1, 2020. Their clinical data, including epidemiological history, clinical symptoms, laboratory examinations, chest CT, treatment, delivery mode, and pregnancy outcomes, were analyzed retrospectively. Descriptive analysis was applied in this study.@*Results@#(1) Among the nine cases, five were admitted in the third trimester and four in the second trimester. The median incubation period of COVID-19 was 8 (1-14) d. Fever was presented in all cases on admission, and the other commonly seen symptoms were cough (seven cases) and diarrhea (five cases). Other signs and symptoms were also reported, including shortness of breath, myalgia and fatigue (four cases in each), nasal obstruction, pharyngalgia, chest pain, and headache/dizziness (three cases in each), rash (two cases), and chills and expectoration (one case in each). The most common laboratory abnormalities were a decreased number of lymphocytes (seven cases) and elevated C-reactive protein (six cases). Chest CT scans were performed in seven women, and all showed patchy areas or ground-glass opacity in both lungs. Oligohydramnios was detected in only one case at 37+5 weeks, which was 7 d after the diagnosis of COVID-19. (2) All nine cases received empiric antibiotic and antiviral therapy with Chinese medicine as adjuvant treatment. Eight patients required oxygen inhalation, and seven were treated with glucocorticoid. One case received immunotherapy due to worsening conditions. (3) Four of the nine cases had delivered, including three cesarean sections and one spontaneous vaginal preterm birth after premature rupture of membranes, and the mother was transferred to the intensive care unit 2 d after delivery due to acute respiratory distress syndrome. One case was terminated at 26 gestational weeks. Of the four neonates, there were two term and two premature babies, and one preterm babies was small-for-gestational-age. No neonatal asphyxia was observed. Serial real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction showed negative results in the detection of 2019-novel coronavirus in all samples obtained from amniotic fluid, umbilical cord blood, neonatal nasopharynx, breast milk, and vagina. Maternal conditions were all stable in all cases, including the four continuing pregnancy, and the terminated ones, except the case mentioned above.@*Conclusions@#There is no distinguishable clinical feature between pregnant and non-pregnant COVID-19 patients. Currently, the evidence for vertical transmission of COVID-19 needs further studies with larger size of examples, but pregnancy may deteriorate COVID-19. Given that COVID-19 may have adverse effects on perinatal outcomes, it's recommended to take positive and effective measures for COVID-19 women in the third trimester.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the significance of empathy and executive function indexes in the diagnosis and classification of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).Methods:According to DSM-Ⅴ diagnostic criteria, 33 children with ASD, 30 children with ADHD and 39 typical development (TD) children and adolescents were enrolled as the research subjects. The empathy and executive function characteristics were compared and analyzed in the subjects.Based on empathy and executive function indicators, the three groups of subjects were diagnosed and classified by machine learning method. Results:The total score of Griffith empathy measure parent ratings(GEM-PR)(ASD: (0.67±0.64), ADHD: (1.00±0.79), TD: (0.98±0.73)) and each factor score ( F=3.595-10.363, all P<0.05) and the total score of behavior rating inventory of executive function(BRIEF)(ASD: (62.79±7.45), ADHD: (59.47±8.77), TD: (49.08±7.91)) and each factor score of the three groups were different ( F=6.557-33.205, all P<0.01). Among them, the scores of empathy and executive function in ASD and ADHD groups were generally higher than those in TD children (all P<0.05). When combined with BRIEF scale and GEM scale, the classification accuracy of the three groups reached 62.75%. Conclusion:Both ASD and ADHD children have damages in empathy and executive function.Combining empathy and executive function indexes are more helpful for diagnosis and classification than single index.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES@#To evaluate residents' knowledge, attitude and behavior towards coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Hunan Province, and to explore the factors influencing behaviors.@*METHODS@#A self-designed questionnaire was used to conduct an online survey for 4 139 Hunan residents. The contents included general population information, residents' knowledge, attitude and practice to COVID-19.@*RESULTS@#Mean scores of knowledge, attitude, and behavior were 29.82±3.16, 6.71±1.12, and 14.93±1.45, respectively. Residents had the highest score of major symptoms of COVID-19 (3.96±0.39), but the lowest was the main transmission routes (3.47±0.89). A total of 22.68% of the residents were very or relatively afraid of the outbreak, but 95.22% of the residents had confidence in defeating COVID-19. In behavior dimension, "handling of suspicious symptoms" had the lowest score (3.58±0.75). The behavior implementation rate of "keep the surfaces of household items clean" (80.50%), "doing more exercise, reasonable diet, working and resting regularly" (84.59%), and "avoid hand contacting with eyes, mouth or nose" (89.51%) were relatively low. Pearson correlation coefficient showed that the knowledge, attitude, and practices score were correlated with each other (knowledge vs behavior: =0.366; knowledge vs attitude: =0.041; attitude vs behavior: =0.100; all <0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the knowledge, attitude and behavior on COVID-19 were mostly influenced by education background (all <0.05), and the independent factors affecting behavior included knowledge and attitude, gender, permanent residence, education background (all <0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Residents in Hunan Province have a good knowledge, attitude, and behavior to COVID-19. Nevertheless there are still weak links to be improved in all dimensions. It is necessary to strengthen knowledge and behavior of family protection, and care for residents' psychological health, especially persons with low education degree, male and rural residents.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the range of indications for dental implants has undergone many modifications and has been widened. In the past, oral lichen planus was regarded as contraindication for the placement of implants. According to recent literature, some patients with oral lichen planus have been selected for dental implantology, indicating comparable implant survival rate to patients without oral lichen planus. Nevertheless, clinical information on this topic is still scarce and evidence-based treatment guidelines are not available. This paper reviews the research progress of dental implant in patients with oral lichen planus, discusses the benefits and risks of implant rehabilitation in this group of patients and proposes treatment recommendations based on existing studies.

ABSTRACT

Studies have demonstrated a strong correlation between chronic inflammation and tumor initiation and progression.Chronic intlammation is mainly involved in tumor progression through intrinsic and extrinsic pathways, and transcription factors such as NF-κB and STAT3 play important roles.Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most lethal malignancies.Chronic inflammation can promote the development of PDAC in cooperation with mutation of protooncogene.Inflammation signaling pathway plays an important role in malignant transformation in the PDAC,in which NF-κB and STAT3 are two major transcription factors.Targeting the key regulator points based on the crosstalk between inflammation signaling and PDAC may potentially represent a novel for PDAC prevention and treatment. This article briefly reviews the role of chronic inflammation in the development of PDAC,the PDAC-related inflammatory signal network caused by chronic inflammation, and crosstalk between NF-κB and JAK/STAT3 signaling pathways.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of peer support education on self-management ability and survival quality of urbanized type 2 diabetes patients in rural areas. Methods From January to September 2015, a total of 117 patients with type 2 diabetes were selected from three large-scale living communities of Fengxian District. Then, they were randomly divided into observation group(58 cases)and control group (59 cases) using random number method, respectively. And the same health education contents were conducted for the patients in both two groups. The patients in control group were educated by the diabetic nurse in classroom. Additionally, the peer support education was conducted for these patients in observation group for 6 months on this basis. The diabetes patient's self-management behavior scale and 36-item Short-Form Health Survey Questionnaire(SF-36)were used to assess the patients before intervention and 6 months later, respectively.Besides, the level of glycosylated hemoglobin was measured by the automatic biochemical analyzer. The self- management ability and survival quality and glycometabolism level were assessed as well. Results 6 months later after intervention, the survival quality score in observation group was as following:physical function(PF) 73.6±11.5,role physical(RP) 86.7 ± 14.5, body pain (BP) 76.3 ± 12.3, general health (GH) 64.5 ± 13.6, vitality (VT) 67.5 ± 12.3, social function (SF) 87.1 ± 16.2, role emotional (RE) 81.1 ± 14.2, mental health (MH) 68.9 ± 12.6, while that in control group was as following:physical function(PF)51.3±10.6,role physical(RP)62.1±12.1,body pain (BP)51.3±10.8,general health(GH)51.1±11.6,vitality(VT)56.4±12.1,social function(SF)70.1±14.1, role emotional (RE) 71.2 ± 13.9, mental health (MH) 56.1 ± 10.8 (t=2.316-6.365, P<0.05). The self-management score in observation group was following:diet management 5.79±0.98,exercise management 5.41 ± 0.57, blood glucose monitoring 4.01 ± 0.90, foot care 5.26 ± 0.89, drug administration 4.47 ± 0.90, smoking 0.86 ± 0.34, while that in control group was following: diet management 3.62 ± 0.99, exercise management 3.66 ± 0.94, blood glucose monitoring 1.90 ± 0.84, foot care 2.54 ± 0.62, drug administration 3.73 ± 0.80, smoking 0.76 ± 0.42 (t=4.659-19.137, P of rest was less than 0.01 except that of smoking equaled to 0.172 and t=1.375). Conclusions Peer support education can improve the quality of life, enhance self-management ability, control the level of glucose metabolism and has a strong operability. Therefore,it is worthy of promotion.
