ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#As a contour-supporting material, the cartilage has a significant application value in plastic surgery.Since the development of hydrogel scaffolds with sufficient biomechanical strength and high biocompatibility, cell-laden hydrogels have been widely studied for application in cartilage bioengineering. This systematic review summarizes the latest research on engineered cartilage constructed using cell-laden hydrogel scaffolds in plastic surgery. @*METHODS@#A systematic review was performed by searching the PubMed and Web of Science databases using selected keywords and Medical Subject Headings search terms. @*RESULTS@#Forty-two studies were identified based on the search criteria. After full-text screening for inclusion and exclusion criteria, 18 studies were included. Data collected from each study included culturing form, seed cell types and sources, concentration of cells and gels, scaffold materials and bio-printing structures, and biomechanical properties of cartilage constructs. These cell-laden hydrogel scaffolds were reported to show some feasibility of cartilage engineering, including better cell proliferation, enhanced deposition of glycosaminoglycans and collagen type II in the extracellular matrix, and better biomechanical properties close to the natural state. @*CONCLUSION@#Cell-laden hydrogels have been widely used in cartilage bioengineering research. Through 3-dimensional (3D) printing, the cell-laden hydrogel can form a bionic contour structure. Extracellular matrix expression was observed in vivo and in vitro, and the elastic modulus was reported to be similar to that of natural cartilage. The future direction of cartilage tissue engineering in plastic surgery involves the use of novel hydrogel materials and more advanced 3D printing technology combined with biochemistry and biomechanical stimulation.

ABSTRACT

Exosome is a double-layer membrane vesicle secreted by several kinds of cells. Exosome is major way of cell paracrine activity with a wide range of sources and high security feature. This paper reviews recent progress of exosomes in promoting wound healing. Studies have shown that exosomes can be applied to wound treatment by immune regulation, regulating fibroblast activity, promoting angiogenesis, inhibiting scar formation and other mechanisms. Compared with traditional stem cell therapy, exosomes have better applied prospect in clinical practise.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the operative method and skill for female frontotemporal hairline reconstruction. Methods From October 2010 to October 2016,120 female patients were performed with the hairline reconstruction. The follicular units were arranged irregularly,40-55 FUs/ cm2,with 30°-45° angle from the forehead skin and 15°-20° angle from the temporal skin. The finest hairs were selected and arranged in hairline margin. Results All the patients were followed up for 10-24 months.95 patients were very satisfied,25 patients were satisfied, and no patients were unsatisfied.9 patients complained low density in the middle of the hairline and they had another surgery to improve the density.3 patients's hairline was regular, and another graft was done to correct the unnatural appearance.6 patients's hairs of the hairline margin were thick, hut no further treatment was done.1 patient underwent hair transplantation again, because of the still high hairline.6 patients's transplanted hairs appeared curly, and the curly degree was decreased after 1-2 years. The density of the transplanted hair was (44.7±8.1) FU/cm2.The density of 9 cases who complained low density in the middle of the hairline, was (36.9 ± 3.1) FU/cm2.The hair diameter of the hairline edge was (57.5±13.5) μm.The hair diameter of 6 cases who felt the hair thick was (70.2±5.1) μm.The angle of hair and the frontal skin was (40.2±8.5)°,The angle of hair and the temporal skin was (18.2± 4.7)°.Conclusions In female frontotemporal hairline reconstruction, nature hairline is created by irregular arrangement of hairs, proper density and angle and exact arrangement of different diameter hairs.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore a more efficient surgical method to cure axillary osmidrosis through a comparative study on results from two surgical treatments of axillary osmidrosis in the armpit area. Methods 72 patients were randomized into two groups,in which 36 patients (group A) with micro-incision simple liposuction and 36 patients (group B) with dissection and excision of subcutaneous tissue from axillary folds. The clinical outcomes in the two groups were comparatively analyzed, based on surgery time, effect, complications, scarring and recovery time. Results The total efficiency of axillary osmidrosis treatment was 100% after 6-12 months clinical follow-up towards two groups. There was no significantly statistical difference on the effect of both groups.Micro-incision simple liposuction was obviously superior to dissection and excision of subcutaneous tissue from axillary folds based on surgery time, complications, recovery time, scarring and armpit hair survival rate. The two groups were significantly different (P<0.05).Conclusions Minimally invasive simple liposuction,as a treatment for axillary osmidrosis is a method with more effectiveness and reliability. It is a more acceptable approach to patients in view of safety and convenience, smaller and invisible scarring, fewer complications, and less recovery time.

ABSTRACT

Objective To examine the expression of p44/42 mitogen -activated protein kinase (p44/42MAPK) and Phospho-p44/42MAPK in cicatrix (hy pertropic scars and keloids) and to aim at exploring the role of activated p44/ 42 MAPK pathway in development of cicatrix. Methods In or der to analyse the differences, 10 samples of normal skin (NS), hypertropic scar s (HS) and keloids (K) were collected, and then the extracted cytoplasmic protei ns from each tissue were examined by Western blotting for p44/42 MAPK and Phosph o p44/42MAPK and immunohistochemical staining with specific antibodies was emplo yed to determine that in fibroblasts of K, HS and NS. Results There was no evident difference of p44/42MAPK in the tissues and fibroblas ts between cicatrix and NS, but Phospho-p44/42MAPK was obviously higher in cica trix than that in NS. In cicatrix, there was no evident difference of p44/42MAPK in tissues between HS and K, while in fibroblasts, Phospho-p44/42MAPK in K was much higher than in HS. Conclusion Activation of p44/42MA PK pathways involves in formation of cicatrix.
