ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate related factors for severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) with sepsis. MethodsA retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of 178 SAP patients who were admitted from January 2007 to March 2020, and according to the presence or absence of sepsis, they were divided into sepsis group with 56 patients and non-sepsis group with 122 patients. The t-test was used for comparison of continuous data between the two groups, and the chi-square test was used for comparison of categorical data between the two groups. A logistic regression model was used for multivariate analyses. ResultsThe incidence rate of sepsis was 31.46% in SAP patients. The univariate analysis showed that there were significant differences between the patients without sepsis and those with sepsis in APACHEⅡ score, blood glucose, blood calcium, serum total cholesterol, serum triglyceride, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, serum albumin, admission to the intensive care unit, hypoxemia, deep venous catheterization, mechanical ventilation, surgical procedure, blood purification, indwelling urinary catheterization, and extent of pancreatic necrosis (all P<0.05). The multivariate analysis showed that APACHEⅡ score (odds ratio [OR]=6.748, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.191-20.788, P<0.05), hypoxemia (OR=3.383, 95% CI: 1.112-10.293, P<0.05), blood glucose (OR=5.288, 95%CI: 1.176-23.781, P<0.05), extent of pancreatic necrosis (OR=5.523, 95%CI: 1.575-19.360, P<0.05), and serum creatinine (OR=5.012, 95%CI: 1.345-18.762, P<0.05) were independent risk factors for infectious SAP with sepsis, while laparoscopic removal of focal necrotic tissue (OR=0.250, 95%CI: 0.066-0951, P<0.05) was an independent protective factor against SAP with sepsis. ConclusionThere are several important measures to reduce SAP with sepsis, including blood glucose control, protection of the functions of important organs such as lungs and kidneys, application of minimally invasive surgery to remove focal necrotic tissue, and emphasis on the treatment of critically ill patients with a high degree of pancreatic necrosis.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper was to study the effect and mechanism of fucoxanthin on insulin resistance of obese mice induced by high-fat diet. Fifty C57 BL/6 J male mice were randomly divided into control group and high-fat diet group. The insulin resistance model was induced with high-fat diet for 12 weeks, and model mice were randomly divided into model group, fucoxanthin-0.2% group, fucoxanthin-0.4% group and metformin group. After dietary treatment for 6 weeks, the body weight and epididymal fat weight in each group were measured. Fasting blood glucose(FBG), fasting insulin(FINS), total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low-density lipoprotein(LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein(HDL-C) were measured, and insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) was calcula-ted. The pathological morphology in liver was observed by hematoxylin eosin staining, and the expressions of some key proteins in insulin receptor substrate 1(IRS-1)/posphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3 K)/serine-threonine kinase(Akt) and peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor-γ(PPARγ)/sterol regulatory element binding protein-1(SREBP-1)/fatty acid synthetase(FAS) pathways in liver were detected by Western blot. According to the findings, compared with the model group, levels of body weight, epididymal fat weight, FBG, FINS, TC, TG, LDL-C and HOMA-IR, as well as protein expressions of PPARγ, SREBP-1 and FAS in liver were significantly reduced(P<0.05 or P<0.01), while level of HDL-C and protein expressions of p-IRS-1, IRS-1, PI3 K and p-Akt in liver were signi-ficantly increased after treatment with fucoxanthin(P<0.05 or P<0.01). And the pathological changes of liver tissue in fucoxanthin-treated mice were also improved obviously. The results showed that fucoxanthin could improve obesity, hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia, and alleviate insulin resistance in obese mice, and its mechanism is possibly related to the regulation of IRS-1/PI3 K/Akt and PPARγ/SREBP-1/FAS pathways.

ABSTRACT

Purpose@#We sought to investigate the effectiveness and safety of dabrafenib in children with BRAFV600E-mutated Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). @*Materials and Methods@#A retrospective analysis was performed on 20 children with BRAFV600E-mutated LCH who were treated with dabrafenib. @*Results@#The median age at which the patients started taking dabrafenib was 2.3 years old (range, 0.6 to 6.5 years). The ratio of boys to girls was 2.3:1. The median follow-up time was 30.8 months (range, 18.9 to 43.6 months). There were 14 patients (70%) in the risk organ (RO)+ group and six patients (30%) in the RO– group. All patients were initially treated with traditional chemotherapy and then shifted to targeted therapy due to poor control of LCH or intolerance to chemotherapy. The overall objective response rate and the overall disease control rate were 65% and 75%, respectively. During treatment, circulating levels of cell-free BRAFV600E (cfBRAFV600E) became negative in 60% of the patients within a median period of 3.0 months (range, 1.0 to 9.0 months). Grade 2 or 3 adverse effects occurred in five patients. @*Conclusion@#Some children with BRAFV600E-mutated LCH may benefit from monotherapy with dabrafenib, especially high-risk patients with concomitant hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and intolerance to chemotherapy. The safety of dabrafenib is notable. A prospective study with a larger sample size is required to determine the optimal dosage and treatment duration.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the efficacy differences between domestic gefitinib and original gefitinib in the first-line treatment of patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) sensitive mutation advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) (stage Ⅲ B and Ⅳ). Methods:A total of 91 cases with EGFR sensitive mutation advanced NSCLC in Dezhou People's Hospital of Shandong Province from January 2017 to July 2019 were selected and were randomly divided into the observation group (47 cases) and the control group (44 cases) according to random number table method. The observation group was given the treatment of domestic gefitinib, and the control group was given the treatment of original gefitinib, and then the treatment outcome, adverse reactions, survival status and the cost of two groups were compared. Results:The objective response rate in the observation group and the control group was 91.5% (43/47) and 84.1% (37/44), respectively; the disease control rate in the observation group and the control group was 100.0% (47/47) and 97.7% (43/44), respectively; and the differences were not statistically significant ( χ2 = 2.708, P = 0.224; χ2 = 1.080, P = 0.484). The median progression-free survival (PFS) time of domestic gefitinib group and original gefitinib group was 13.26 months (95% CI 11.34-14.66 months) and 13.19 months (95% CI 12.52-15.48 months), respectively, and the difference was not statistically significant ( P = 0.735). The subgroup analysis showed that the median PFS time of patients with an exon 19 deletion mutation in the observation group and the control group was 12.98 months (95% CI 11.25-14.75 months) and 13.89 months (95% CI 12.04-15.96 months), respectively, and the difference was not statistically significant ( P = 0.604). The median PFS time of patients with an exon 21 L858R missense mutation in the observation group and the control group was 15.08 months (95% CI 11.79-18.21 months) and 11.94 months (95% CI 9.20-14.79 months), and the difference was not statistically significant ( P = 0.114). There was no statistically difference in the incidence of adverse reactions including skin rash, diarrhea, interstitial pneumonia, oral mucositis, nausea and vomiting, myelosuppression, abnormal aminotransferase of the two groups of patients (all P > 0.05). The treatment cost in the observation group and the control group during the treatment period was (2 118.43±137.93) yuan per month and (5 945.48±247.48) yuan per month, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant ( t = 12.854, P = 0.001). Conclusions:Domestic gefitinib and original gefitinib have the same therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of EGFR sensitive mutation advanced NSCLC. The adverse reactions are similar between domestic gefitinib and original gefitinib. Compared with the original gefitinib, the drug economy of domestic gefitinib is better and it can significantly reduce the financial burden of patients, and it can be used as an important option in the first-line treatment of patients with EGFR sensitive mutation advanced NSCLC.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the relationship between end-dialysis over-weight (edOW) in initial stage of hemodialysis and long-term prognosis in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Methods:The data of initial uremia patients receiving hemodialysis in the First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University from January 1, 2008 to April 30, 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. The end point of follow-up was death or until April 30, 2018. The general data including age, gender, body mass index, primary disease, complications and laboratory indicators of the patients and the related parameters of dialysis from four to twelve months were collected. Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze survival rate. Cox multivariate regression was used to analyze the relationship between edOW and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. Results:A total of 469 patients (300 males, 64.0%) were enrolled, with age of (56.9±17.1)years old. During the follow-up period of (4.1±2.4) years (1.0-10.3 years), 102 patients died. The main cause of death was cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events, accounting for 44.1% (45/102). The value of edOW was (0.28±0.02) kg. The patients were divided into edOW<0.28 kg group ( n=292) and edOW≥0.28 kg group ( n=177) according to the mean value of edOW. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the long-term survival rate in edOW<0.28 kg group was higher than that in edOW≥0.28 kg group (Log-rank χ2=4.134, P=0.043), and the CVD mortality in edOW≥0.28 kg group was significantly higher than that in edOW<0.28 kg group (Log-rank χ2=11.136, P=0.001). Cox multivariate regression analysis showed that high edOW was an independent influencing factor for all-cause death and CVD death in hemodialysis patients ( HR=1.541, 95% CI 1.057-2.249, P=0.025; HR=1.930, 95% CI 1.198-3.107, P=0.007). Conclusion:High edOW in early phase is an independent influencing factor of all-cause and CVD death in hemodialysis patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To retrospectively analyze the early mortality and related risk factors in adult patients with maintenance hemodialysis (MHD).Methods:Adult MHD patients from 2008 to 2018 were enrolled and divided into training data group and validation data group. In training data group, multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors of early death within 120 days after hemodialysis and establish a prediction model. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was applied to evaluate the prediction ability of the model. Results:A total of 4 885 patients were included. The cumulative mortality within 120 days was 20.97/100 person years, and that within 365 days was 12.25/100 person years. A total of 3 603 patients in the training data group were analyzed. The following risk factors were correlated with early mortality (all P<0.05), including age at start of dialysis over 60 years old ( OR=1.792), non-chronic glomerulonephritis ( OR=2.214), cardio-cerebrovascular disease ( OR=2.695), plasma albumin less than 35 g/L ( OR=1.358), platelet count less than 120×10 9/L ( OR=2.194), serum creatinine less than 600 μmol/L ( OR=1.652), blood urea nitrogen over 30 mmol/L ( OR=1.887), blood phosphorus less than 1.13 mmol/L ( OR=1.783), pulse pressure over 55 mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) ( OR=1.656), low density lipoprotein less than 1.5 mmol/L ( OR=1.873), and blood calcium over 2.5 mmol/L ( OR=1.876). Risk prediction model was established. The other 1 282 cases in the validation data group were verified. The area under ROC curve was 0.810, with sensitivity 85.7%, and specificity 62.5%. Conclusion:The mortality rate of adult MHD patients within 120 days after dialysis is high. The established prediction model can effectively predict the risk of early death.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the safety of early hip fracture surgery for elderly patients on clopidogrel. Methods:This retrospective study included 242 consecutive elderly patients (≥65 years) with acute hip fracture who had undergone surgery at Department of Orthopaedic Trauma, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital between November 2016 and April 2017. Of them, 20 were assigned into the study group who had taken clopidogrel before injury but discontinued its use within 4 days before surgery. They were 6 males and 14 females, with a median age of 80 years (77, 81). Their operation procedures for hip fracture included internal fixation with cannulated screws for femoral neck fracture in 2 cases, hemiarthroplasty for displaced femoral neck fracture in 11 cases, and internal fixation for intertrochanteric fracture in 7 cases. The control group included 222 patients who had undergone the same operative procedures but not taken any antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. The 2 groups were compared in terms of time between admission and operation, operation duration, intraoperative blood loss, perioperative transfusion and complications related to bleeding to analyze the safety of early surgery. Results:There was no significant difference in the preoperative general data between the 2 groups, showing comparability ( P>0.05). There was no significant difference between the 2 groups in the time between admission and operation [42.5 (36.3, 48.0) h for the study group versus 43.0 (28.0, 61.0) h for the control group] ( P=0.870). The median time between the last use of clopidogrel and operation was 55.0 (30.5, 71.0) h. There were no significant differences between the 2 groups in preoperative hemoglobin, operation duration, intraoperative blood loss, rate or amount of perioperative blood transfusion, or rate or amount of wound drainage ( P>0.05). The rate of general anesthesia was significantly higher for the study group (45.0%, 9/20) than for the control group (18.5%,41/222) ( P=0.012). No complications related to spinal hematoma occurred in the patients receiving spinal anesthesia from the study group. Wound hematoma and subsequent infection occurred in 2 patients from the control group. Conclusion:Early hip fracture surgery is safe for elderly patients on clopidogrel.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the expression levels of microRNA-124 (miR-124) and microRNA-494(miR-494) in the serum of elderly patients with Parkinson disease (PD) and its clinical significance. Methods:Ninety PD patients (PD group) who were hospitalized in Zhengzhou Central Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University from March 2018 to April 2020 were selected. At the same time, 100 non-PD elderly people examined in the physical examination center of the same hospital who matched with age and gender of PD patients were selected as the control group. After 12 hours of fasting, 4 ml of venous blood was taken from all subjects. All PD patients were graded by unified Parkinson disease rating scale(UPDRS) from the aspects of mental state, behavior and emotion, quality of life and motor examination, and graded by the Hoehn-Yahr rating scale for Parkinson disease. The expression levels of miR-124 and miR-494 in serum were detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR), and the diagnostic values of miR-124 and miR-494 in PD patients were evaluated by ROC curve.Results:Hoehn-Yahr grade of PD patients with UPDRS≤60 points was significantly lower than that of patients with UPDRS >60 points((2.47±0.43) vs (3.42±0.47))( t=9.055, P<0.001), and there was no significant difference in serum miR-124 and miR-494 expression levels((0.72±0.14) vs (0.70±0.12), (1.17±0.19) vs (1.18±0.22)) ( t=0.633, 0.230, P=0.529, 0.819). Compared with that in control group, the expression of miR-124 in PD group was down-regulated ((0.71±0.20) vs (1.05±0.24)), and the expression of miR-494 was up-regulated((1.18±0.26) vs (0.96±0.22)) ( t=10.542, 6.315, P<0.001). The results of ROC showed that the area under curve (AUC) of serum miR-124 and miR-494 in the diagnosis of PD were 0.847 and 0.760 respectively, the cutoff values were 0.901 and 1.126, respectively, the sensitivities were 86.67% and 61.11% respectively, and the specificities were 75.03% and 79.00% respectively. The AUC of the combined diagnosis of PD was 0.898, and the sensitivity and specificity were 85.56% and 85.00% respectively. Conclusions:The expression of miR-124 is low in PD patients, while the expression of miR-494 is high, which suggests that the changes of the two miRNA levels may be related with the occurrence and development of PD.Both of them have a certain diagnostic value for PD, and the value of combined diagnosis is higher.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of Paishi decoction in ureteral calculi treatment. Methods:Ureteral calculi patients were voluntarily divided into two groups in Shanghai Baoshan Traditional Chinese Medicine-Integrated Hospital. Patients in the control group received anti-inflammatory symptomatic treatment for 2 weeks, and patients in the treatment group received anti-inflammatory symptomatic treatment combined with Paishi decoction for 2 weeks. Results:There was no significant difference between the two groups in gender, age, body weight and stone size. Compared with the control group, after taking Paishi decoction for 2 weeks, the urinary oxalic acid and calcium in the treatment group decreased significantly, and the urine citric acid increased (P<0.05). The difference in clinical effective rate was significant between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion:Paishi decoction is superior to single anti-inflammatory symptomatic treatment in the treatment of ureteral calculi, which reflects the advantages of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. However, the number of patients included in this study was limited, further studies are in need to verify the result.

ABSTRACT

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has a high incidence of metastasis. Tumour immunotherapy targeting PD-L1 or PD-1 has been revolutionary; however, only a few patients with OSCC respond to this treatment. Therefore, it is essential to gain insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the growth and metastasis of OSCC. In this study, we analysed the expression levels of protein kinase D3 (PKD3) and PD-L1 and their correlation with the expression of mesenchymal and epithelial markers. We found that the expression of PKD3 and PD-L1 in OSCC cells and tissues was significantly increased, which correlated positively with that of mesenchymal markers but negatively with that of epithelial markers. Silencing PKD3 significantly inhibited the growth, metastasis and invasion of OSCC cells, while its overexpression promoted these processes. Our further analyses revealed that there was positive feedback regulation between PKD3 and PD-L1, which could drive EMT of OSCC cells via the ERK/STAT1/3 pathway, thereby promoting tumour growth and metastasis. Furthermore, silencing PKD3 significantly inhibited the expression of PD-L1, and lymph node metastasis of OSCC was investigated with a mouse footpad xenograft model. Thus, our findings provide a theoretical basis for targeting PKD3 as an alternative method to block EMT for regulating PD-L1 expression and inhibiting OSCC growth and metastasis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the clinical characteristics and risk factors of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) in patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA).@*METHODS@#Clinical data from 270 SAA patients with allo-HSCT were retrospectively analyzed, including 108 sib congruence patients and 162 substitute donors (68 unrelated donor congruence patients and 94 related haploid patients). Different pretreatment schemes were selected for different transplantation modes. The HLA-identical sibling and haploid grafts were all bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cells, and the grafts from unrelated donors were peripheral blood stem cells. After granulocyte implantation, blood CMV-DNA was regularly monitored. Flow cytometry was also used to determine the absolute number of CD3@*RESULTS@#CMV infection occurred in 229 of 270 patients with an incidence of 84.8%. Among them, 18 patients developed giant cell disease. Univariate analysis showed that alternative donors (unrelated total and haploid donors), mycophenolate mofetil and acute graft-versus-host disease were statistically significantly associated with CMV infection (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that alternative donors were associated with CMV infection. The recovery of CD3@*CONCLUSION@#After allo-HSCT, substitute donors are more easily to develop CMV infection than full-sibling donors, and the reconstruction of immune function is delayed after transplantation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To deeply understand the clinical manifestation, laboratory examination characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of an eight p11 myeloproliferative syndrome (EMS) with rare phenotypes.@*METHODS@#The clinical and laboratory characteristics and the process of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) were summarized in 1 rare EMS case involving T/B/myeloid cells. Meanwhile, 2 similar cases in the previous literature were also discussed.@*RESULTS@#The bone marrow examination indicated that the patient with B-cell acute lymphocytic leukemia. The lymph node biopsy showed that the patient was T lymphoblastic/myeloid lymphoma. The 8p11 abnormality was found by the examination of bone marrow chromosomes. The RT-PCR examination showed that the BCR-ABL fused gene was negtive. The FGFR1 breakage was found by using the FISH with FGFR1 probe in lymph node. The Mutation of FMNL3, NBPF1 and RUNX1 genes was found by using the whole exome sequencing. The patient received allo-HSCT under CR2. By the follow-up till to September 2019, the patient survived without the above-mentioned disease.@*CONCLUSION@#EMS manifest as neoplasms involving T-lineage, B-lineage, and myeloid-lineage simultaneously is extremely rare. Although the FGFR1 gene-targeted therapy can be conducted, allo-HSCT should be actively considered.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the impact of induction treatment response on the prognosis of pediatric core binding factor-acute myeloid leukemia (CBF-AML).@*METHODS@#The result of induce reaction and survival data of 157 pediatric CBF-AML patients in our hospital from September 2008 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. The survival rate of the patients with different degrees of morphological remission after induction chemotherapy was comparative analyzed.@*RESULTS@#Among the 157 children with CBF-AML, 113 (72.4%) patients achieved morphologic leukemia-free state (MLFS) after the first course of induction chemotherapy, 153 (98.1%) patients achieved MLFS after the second course of induction chemotherapy. The 5-year event-free survival (EFS) rate and 5-year overall survival (OS) rate of patients with non-remission (NR) status after the first course of induction of chemotherapy was significantly lower than the patients achieved MLFS and the patients achieved partial remission (PR). The 5-year EFS rate and 5-year OS rate of the patients with PR status after the second course of induction chemotherapy were lower than the patients achieved MLFS, but the difference was not statistically significant. Multivariable analyze showed that NR after the first course of induction chemotherapy and myeloid sarcoma were the independent risk factors affecting EFS of the patients. There were six patients with NR status after the first course of induction chemotherapy, in which all of them harbored t(8;21), three of them with sex chromosome deletion, two of them with myeloid sarcoma.@*CONCLUSION@#NR status after the first course of induction chemotherapy was the independent risk factor affecting EFS and OS of CBF-AML patients, it can be taken as an indicator for higher risk stratification. PR status after the first course of induction chemotherapy may not be used as a diagnostic criterion for primary drug resistance.

ABSTRACT

Under the guidance and support of national policies in recent years, the community medical system has been developed rapidly, among which primary child healthcare is carried out routinely in community hospitals, greatly alleviating the pressure of specialized pediatric hospitals and departments of pediatrics in secondary and tertiary general hospitals. However, due to the lack of professional training for primary child healthcare personnel in community medical institutions, early symptoms of children with cerebral palsy cannot be identified and so children with cerebral palsy are often unable to receive early diagnosis and intervention, which may affect their prognosis. An article about international expert consensus and recommendations on early identification and referral of cerebral palsy in community medical institutions was published in

OBJECTIVE@#To study the clinical features of very preterm small-for-gestational-age infants born by cesarean section due to severe preeclampsia.@*METHODS@#Forty-two small-for-gestational-age infants who were admitted from August 2017 to July 2018 and were born due to severe preeclampsia were enrolled as the observation group. Forty very preterm infants who were born to healthy mothers since uterine contractions could not be suppressed were enrolled as the control group. Perinatal features, clinical manifestations of infection, complications, and clinical outcomes were analyzed for the two groups.@*RESULTS@#Within 6 hours and 2-3 days after birth, the observation group had significantly lower white blood cell count (WBC), absolute neutrophil count (ANC), and platelet count (PLT) than the control group (@*CONCLUSIONS@#Very preterm small-for-gestational-age infants born due to severe preeclampsia have a high incidence rate of infection and severe conditions. Early manifestations include reductions in the infection indicators WBC, ANC, and PLT, and CRP does not increase significantly in the early stage and gradually increases at 2-3 days after birth. Most of these infants require invasive ventilation after birth, with bronchopulmonary dysplasia as the main complication. Clinical changes should be closely observed and inflammatory indicators should be monitored for early identification of infection, timely diagnosis, and timely adjustment of antibiotic treatment, so as to improve the outcome.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To study the efficacy and safety of double plasma molecular absorption system (DPMAS) in the treatment of pediatric acute liver failure (PALF).@*METHODS@#A prospective analysis was performed on the medical data of children with PALF who were hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Hunan Children's Hospital, from March 2018 to June 2020. The children were randomly divided into two groups:plasma exchange group (PE group) and DPMAS group (@*RESULTS@#Compared with the PE group, the DPMAS group had a significantly lower number of times of artificial liver support therapy and a significantly shorter duration of ICU stay (@*CONCLUSIONS@#DPMAS is safe and effective in the treatment of PALF and can thus be used as an alternative to artificial liver support therapy.

ABSTRACT

<b>Objective::To explore the feasibility of Photoshop image processing software in the micro-spherical diameter measurement and identification of medicinal materials, in order to provide a new method for the measurement and mapping of traditional Chinese medicine. <b>Method::Photoshop (CS3 version and above) software was used to measure the diameter of 200 Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma albumin microspheres in the same batch, digital microscopy and Photoshop image processing software was used to draw schematic diagrams of microstructures of Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma medicinal powders and its four common pseudo-products and powders, namely Bletillae Radix, Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma, Curcumae Longae Rhizoma and Manihot esculenta, and make the identification table for classification and identification. <b>Result::The average diameter of the microspheres was (30.62±4.21)μm, and the diameter was mainly distributed in 20-40 μm. The average diameter of the microspheres was verified by laser particle size analyzer (30.18±4.67)μm. The differences between the two methods were not statistically significant. There were many starch granules in Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma powder, with no calcium oxalate needle, oil cell, brown pigment and stone cell. Microscopic identification could be made for Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma powder and 4 common counterfeits. <b>Conclusion::Photoshop image processing software measures the diameter of the microspheres with a high speed, high accuracy, simplicity, and low requirements for measuring instruments. It provides a new way to quickly measure the diameter of microspheres. Photoshop image processing software draws a schematic diagram of the microstructure, which is convenient and faster. The original morphology of the ground-reactive microstructure provides a new method for the microstructural drawing.
