ABSTRACT
Objective To explore the regularity and potential mechanisms of medicinal and edible herbs(MEHs)in the treatment of myelosuppression through the retrieval, summary, sorting and visual analysis of relevant literature. Methods Literature about MEHs treatment for myelosuppression was reviewed in document databases, such as Web of Science,CNKI,Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform,China Science and Technology Journal Database, and China Biology Medicine Disc.Multivariate statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS and CiteSpace software to explore the frequency, efficacy and correlation of MEHs,as well as the potential mechanisms of MEHs in treating myelosuppression. Results A total of 123 recipes involving 170 traditional Chinese medicines(including 38 MEHs)were screened out.Five pairs of MEHs core combinations in the treatment of myelosuppression were obtained by cluster analysis.Their main functions included benefiting qi and nourishing blood,invigo-rating spleen and dispelling dampness, replenishing qi and solidifying kidney. The potential mechanisms were associated with many related signal pathways, such as Janus kinase 2-signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 andβ-catenini.Conclusion MEHs such as radix astragali combined with angelica sinensis, poria cocos and codonopsis pilosula are mainly used clinically to treat myelosuppression induced by chemotherapy. They play their therapeutic effects by promoting proliferation and delaying senescence of hematopoietic stem cells.
ABSTRACT
Syndrome is an important concept in the theoretical system of tradtional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the four-dimensional attributes of syndrome are proposed based on clinical practice, namely materiality, regularity, complexity and holism. The materiality of syndrome is an objective existence that can be perceived and seen, and it can be perceived from more levels by using modern science and technology to explore the visualisation, objectification and digitisation of syndrome; the regularity of syndrome is hierarchical, can be grasped, for example in the beginning of the epidemic the pathogen is unknown, and grasping the regularity of syndrome can make a rapid response in the treatment of the epidemic; the complexity of syndrome is not only reflected in the geographical, seasonal and individual differences, but also reflected in the development of the dynamics of a certain period of law, especially for the epidemic disease with characteristics of rapid onset, rapid change, so changeable syndrome, bad syndrome can appear at any time, and an objective and comprehensive grasp of the complexity of the syndrome can help improve the diagnosis and treatment of epidemic disease; the holism of syndrome not only embodied in the human body is a whole, the form of God as a whole, but also emphasised that man and nature are a whole, so more emphasis on man and nature as a whole. The occurrence of epidemics usually due to the unexpected qi appeared not the time, and the holism view of man and nature is an effective way to prevent and control epidemics. With the syndromes as the core, we explored the effective treatment strategy of epidemic disease combined with syndromes to provide ideas for the prevention and control of the epidemics.
ABSTRACT
Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), a gynecological and endocrine disorder closely linked with one’s lifestyle, has been impacted by the lockdowns imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Hence, our objective was to study the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lifestyle and the manifestations of women with PCOS, and the association between them. Methods: Nationwide cross-sectional study was carried out among women diagnosed with PCOS via Rotterdam's criteria using predesigned semi-structured questionnaires via social media. Data was analysed using proportions and Chi-square tests. Results: Majority females were between 20-29 years (78.3%) and obese (54.8%). Only 12 were physically active, with lack of motivation being the commonest reason for not exercising. 66.9% gained weight (average 6.62 kg). 72.6% noticed an increase in stress levels. 51.7% and 25.9% had severe and moderate anxiety respectively as per GAD (Generalized Anxiety Depression) score. Only 28.5% were satisfied with their sleep. 62.4% reported having irregular menstrual cycles, with an increase of 4.6% from before the pandemic. 39.2% women reported to have missed cycles often during the pandemic. 35.4% of women had an increase in hirsutism. A significant association was found between regularity of menses and one’s weight, physical activity and anxiety. Stress levels and sleep were found to be associated with change in the pattern of body hair. Conclusions: Overall compared to the pre-pandemic times, lifestyle deteriorated, with worsening of stress levels, physical activity, sleep and weight gain in spite of improvement in diet. Manifestations of PCOS showed exaggerated menstrual symptoms and increased hirsutism.

ABSTRACT
This study aims to mine the regularity of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) prescriptions for sick sinus syndrome(SSS) and provide a reference for clinical syndrome differentiation and treatment. The relevant papers were retrieved from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and SinoMed with the time interval from inception to January 31, 2023. The relevant information from qualified papers was extracted to establish a library. Lantern 5.0 and Rstudio were used to analyze the latent structure and association rules of TCMs with the frequency ≥3%, which combined with frequency descriptions, were used to explore the rules of TCM prescriptions for SSS. A total of 192 TCM prescriptions were included, involving 115 TCMs with the cumulative frequency of 1 816. High-frequency TCMs include Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Astragali Radix, and Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. The high-frequency medicines mainly had the effects of tonifying, releasing exterior with pungent-warm, and activating blood and resolving stasis. The analysis of the latent structure model yielded 13 hidden variables, 26 hidden classes, 8 comprehensive cluster models, and 21 core prescriptions. Accordingly, the common syndromes of SSS were inferred as heart-Yang Qi deficiency, heart-spleen Yang deficiency, heart-kidney Yang deficiency, Yang deficiency and blood stasis, both Qi and Yin deficiency and blood stasis, and Yin and Yang deficiency. The analysis of association rules predicted 30 strong association rules, among which Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma-Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata had the highest support. SSS is a syndrome with Yang deficiency and Qi deficiency as the root causes and cold, phlegm, and stasis as the manifestations. The clinical treatment of SSS should focus on warming Yang and replenishing Qi, which should be supplemented with the therapies of activating blood and resolving stasis, warming interior and dissipating cold, or regulating Qi movement for resolving phlegm according to the patients' syndromes.

ABSTRACT
Stimulus-specific adaptation (SSA), defined as a decrease in responses to a common stimulus that only partially generalizes to other rare stimuli, is a widespread phenomenon in the brain that is believed to be related to novelty detection. Although cross-modal sensory processing is also a widespread phenomenon, the interaction between the two phenomena is not well understood. In this study, the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN), which is regarded as a hub of the attentional system that contains multi-modal neurons, was investigated. The results showed that SSA existed in an interactive oddball stimulation, which mimics stimulation changes from one modality to another. In the bimodal integration, SSA to bimodal stimulation was stronger than to visual stimulation alone but similar to auditory stimulation alone, which indicated a limited integrative effect. Collectively, the present results provide evidence for independent cross-modal processing in bimodal TRN neurons.

ABSTRACT
Wuzhuyu Tang (WZYT), a classical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, was first recorded in Treatise on Cold Damage by the prestigious physician ZHANG Zhong-jing in the Eastern Han Dynasty, and included in Catalogue of Ancient Classical Formulas (First Batch). WZYT is composed of four medcinals: Euodiae Fructus, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, and Jujubae Fructus, which has the effects of warming the middle and tonifying deficiency, dissipating cold and descending adverse qi. Based on data mining, this paper analyzes the modern clinical research literature on WZYT, which is expected to lay a basis for clarifying the "disease-symptom-prescription-medicinal" relationship of WZYT, as well as its modern clinical indications and clinical dosage. With the search term "Wuzhuyu Tang", 253 complete medical records were retrieved from CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang (2000-2020), involving 292 TCM prescriptions. Microsoft Excel 2019 was employed to establish the medical record database and the main clinical indications were statistically analyzed. Moreover, the syndromes, incidence law, and medication regularity were summed up. The result indicates WZYT has a wide range of modern clinical applications, mainly including the treatment of headache, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, dysmenorrhea, morning sickness, and other diseases, and the "deficiency, cold, and reversal" symptoms, mainly manifested as nausea and vomiting, headache, fatigue and lack of strength, reversal cold of hands and feet, poor appetite, gloomy complexion, dizziness, aversion to wind and cold, abdominal pain, sloppy diarrhea, abdominal distension, poor sleep, pale tongue, white coating, and deep thread wiry pulse. These diseases and symptoms mainly occur in women and middle-aged people. In most cases, medicinals are added or subtracted according to the symptoms, and the common doses of Euodiae Fructus, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, Codonopsis Radix or Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, and Jujubae Fructus in the original prescription are 6-15 g, 10-15 g, 10-15 g or 9-12 g, and 4-6, respectively. The added medicinals are in the descending order of Pinelliae Rhizoma, Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Poria, Glycyrrhize Radix et Rhizoma, and Chuanxiong Rhizoma according to the frequency.
ABSTRACT
ObjectiveTo explore medication regularity of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and thereby to lay a theoretical basis for clinical medication and drug development. MethodArticles on clinical treatment of intermediate and advanced NSCLC with TCM in the past 40 years were retrieved from CNKI, which were taken the data source. Then the articles were screened to establish a formula database, followed by frequency statistics, association rule analysis, cluster analysis, factor analysis, and complex network construction. ResultA total of 307 eligible articles were screened out, involving 483 formulas. The common syndrome of intermediate and advanced NSCLC was the deficiency of both Qi and Yin, with the common syndrome elements of Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, phlegm, blood stasis, pathogenic heat (fire), toxin, and pathogenic dampness. The frequently used medicinals mainly had the functions of tonifying deficiency, clearing heat, resolving phlegm and relieving cough and dyspnea, promoting urination and draining dampness, and activating blood and resolving stasis. The high-frequency medicinals were Astragali Radix, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizome, Ophiopogonis Radix, Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, and Poria, which were mainly cold, bitter, sweet, and pungent, with tropism at lung, spleen, and stomach. The association rule analysis yielded 17 rules with strong association. Ten common factors were extracted from the factor analysis, and cluster analysis classified the medicinals into 5 groups. Complex network analysis suggested that the core formula was modified Liujunzi Tang and Yiqi Yangyin Jiedu prescription. ConclusionThe treatment principle for intermediate and advanced NSCLC is replenishing Qi and nourishing Yin, invigorating spleen and resolving phlegm, clearing heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. The core combinations new prescription discovered by data mining are of important guiding significance, but they should be further verified in clinical practice and by experiments based on the theory of TCM.
ABSTRACT
Objective:To study the trends and ranges of blood pressure in extremely premature infants (EPIs) during the first 7 days after birth. Methods:From January 2016 to December 2020, EPIs born in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. The diastolic pressure increased significantly within 24 h after birth ( P<0.05), systolic pressure and mean blood pressure increased significantly within 72 h after birth ( P<0.05). Blood pressure increased with age and GA. Conclusions:The blood pressure of EPIs will increase spontaneously during 7 days after birth. The ranges of blood pressure are measured for infants with different GA to provide clinical evidence for blood pressure management of EPIs during early postnatal period.
ABSTRACT
Based on the Drugdataexpy and the prescription modern application database, this study explored the formulation regularity of ancient and modern prescriptions for the treatment of sinusitis. The Chinese medicinal prescriptions for the treatment of sinusitis with various syndromes were retrieved from the above databases and the corresponding formulation regularity was investigated by frequency analysis, association rule analysis, and factor analysis. Eighty-seven Chinese medicinal prescriptions were included, involving five syndrome types of sinusitis and 160 Chinese medicine, which were mainly effective in releasing exterior, clearing heat, and tonifying deficiency, and acted on the lung meridian due to cold and warm nature and pungent and bitter flavor or on the spleen meridian due to warm nature and pungent flavor. Seventeen core Chinese medicine were screened out by topological data analysis, including Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Magnoliae Flos, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Xanthii Fructus, and Scutellariae Radix. Chinese medicine such as Magnoliae Flos, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, and Xanthii Fructus were commonly used in the treatment of sinusitis of wind-heat in the lung meridian, while the combination of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Magnoliae Flos, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, etc. was the key compatibility in treating sinusitis of dampness-heat in the spleen and stomach. Six common factors were extracted from the factor analysis of the above two syndrome types. The findings indicate that the exterior-releasing, heat-clearing, and deficiency-tonifying Chinese medicine with cold and warm nature and pungent flavor are preferential options for the clinical treatment of sinusitis. Treatment should be based on syndrome differentiation and key therapeutic principles should be followed.

The drugs with the highest frequency were effective in promoting urination, draining dampness, and activating blood to resolve stasis, followed by those in tonifying deficiency, regulating Qi,and purgation. Galli Gigerii Endothelium Corneum,Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma, and Succinum were used as specialized drugs targeting the syndrome. Association rule analysis showed that Lysimachiae Herba,Galli Gigerii Endothelium Corneum, and Lygodii Spora were commonly used in pairwise or ternary combination, followed by the pairwise combinations of Lysimachiae Herba with Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix,Pyrrosiae Folium, and Plantaginis Semen. High-frequency drugs were clustered into four categories by clustering analysis. Thirty-one therapeutic principles were employed in the 247 Chinese medicinal compounds. The ones with the highest frequency were clearing heat and eliminating dampness, resolving stasis and promoting urination, and tonifying kidney and replenishing qi. Conclusion:For the treatment of urolithiasis, promoting urination and draining dampness is the core therapeutic principle, and activating blood to resolve stasis is the important therapeutic principle, while tonifying is the potential therapeutic principle. The medication for urolithiasis is featured by specialized drugs targeting the syndrome.
ABSTRACT
The tumor prescriptions contained in Dictionary of Tumor Formulas, Compendium of Good Tumor Formulas, Chinese Pharmacopoeia, Ministry of Health Drug Standards for Chinese Medicine Formulas and National Compilation of Standards for Proprietary Chinese Medicines were selected and organized to construct a database for tumor prescriptions, and the data mining techniques were applied to investigate the prescription regularity of colorectal cancer prescriptions. The formula data were extracted after screening in strict accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and were then analyzed with Microsoft Excel 2010 for frequency statistics, Apriori block provided by SPSS Clementine 12.0 software for correlation rule analysis, and arules and arulesViz packages in R 4.0.2 software for correlation rule visualization. In addition, SPSS 18.0 software was used for cluster analysis and factor analysis, in which cluster analysis was performed by Ochiai algorithm with bicategorical variables in systematic clustering method and factor analysis was performed mainly with principal component analysis. A total of 285 prescriptions were included in the statistical analysis, and the frequency statistics showed that 43 herbs had been used more than 16 times. The association rules analysis showed that 26 high-frequency me-dicine pair rules were obtained, and the association rules for those dispelling evil spirits, strengthening the body, resolving stasis, dispelling dampness, etc. were visualized. In the cluster analysis, we generated a dendrogram from which 7 groups of traditional Chinese medicines with homogeneity were extracted. 10 common factors were obtained in the factor analysis. The types of herbal medicines involved in the colorectal cancer prescription included anti-cancer antidotes, strengthening and tonifying medicines, blood-regulating medicines, and expectorant medicines, corresponding to the treatment for eliminating evil spirits, strengthening, resolving stasis, and expectorating dampness. The prescriptions for anti-cancer detoxification were normally based on the pairs composed of Scutellaria barbata-Hedyotis diffusa and Sophora flavescens, Sargentodoxa cuneata, S. barbata, often combined with stasis relieving drug and dampness eliminating drug, reflecting the characteristics of treatment for both toxicity and stasis, dampness and toxicity simultaneously. The prescriptions for strengthening the righteousness and tonifying the deficiency were composed of Astragalus membranaceus and Atractylodes macrocephala mainly, exerting the effect of benefiting Qi, strengthening the spleen and drying dampness, tonifying kidney and essence, tonifying blood and invigorating blood. Meanwhile, anti-cancer detoxification medicines shall be reduced as much as possible. The compatibility of the medicines for the intestinal tract reflected the principle of using the right medicine for the right condition and eliminating evil spirits or strengthening the body, as appropriate.
