RÉSUMÉ

Myroides species are not part of human flora and are commonly found in soil and water. They are considered as low-grade pathogens. Genera Myroides are members of the family Flavobacteriaceae and comprise a group of yellow-pigmented, oxidase positive, non-motile, non-fermentative Gram-negative bacilli. However nowadays, they have been identified as causative agents in urinary tract infections, pneumonia, meningitis, fasciitis, and ventriculitis in immunocompromised patients, and a few life-threatening infections have been reported in immunocompetent individuals also. We present a case 32-year-old female known the case of rheumatic heart disease that underwent valve replacement around 17 years back. She was admitted with complaints of breathlessness since 3 days in an emergency for evaluation. She underwent redo mitral valve replacement. Intraoperatively, vegetations were present on the mitral valve. Subsequently, her blood culture grew Myroides spp. She responded well to treatment and discharged.

The study aimed to identify desirable social, familial, reproductive, dietary, and lifestyle factors for maintaining normal body mass index (BMI) of urban affl uent women (25-45 years) in Delhi, India. A total of 387 urban affl uent women with at least one living child participated in this cross-sectional study conducted from March 2008 to April 2010. Women were classifi ed into four BMI categories on the basis of World Health Organization (WHO; 2004) classifi cation for Asians. Signifi cant factors for maintaining normal BMI were: Younger age, less parity, nuclear family, normal weight status of parents, postpartum weight gain between 2 and 3 kg, regularity in taking meals, fi xed meal size, self-perceived normal weight, and shorter sitting time and television viewing time. Multivariate regression analysis identifi ed fi ve determining factors for maintaining BMI, which are normal weight of father, self-perceived normal weight, fi xed meal size, sitting time less than 6 h/day, and television viewing time less than 1 h/day. By small lifestyle modifi cations, normal BMI can be maintained.

Context: Multidrug-resistant organisms continue to be a problem for clinicians worldwide. AIMS: To analyze the changing trend of antimicrobial susceptibility patterns in the blood isolates over a period of 4 years in our hospital. Settings and Design: This is a retrospective study done in tertiary care cardiac institute over a period of 4 years. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed blood culture positive isolates and studied the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of microorganisms during the period starting from January 2007 to December 2010. Statistical Analysis Used: Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS for windows version 13.0. Fisher exact test or chi-square test was applied for comparison of categorical variables. P values less than .05 were considered as statistically significant. Results: The rate of blood culture positivity was 3.72%. Gram-negative bacteria were more common than Gram-positive bacteria. There was a gradual increase in Gram-negative bacteria especially Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter species. Klebsiella pneumoniae showed a significant increase of resistance to cefoperazone sulbactam (P = .023), piperacillin tazobactam (P < 0.001), imipenem (P < 0.001), and meropenem (P < 0.001) between the first (2007-2008) and second period (2009-2010) of study. The carbapenems resistance is on rise in Gram-negative bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae and non-fermenters. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that there is a definite increase in the multidrug resistant organisms. The data on the changing trends in antibiotic resistance, we believe is an important pillar in our efforts at improving infection control practices.

RÉSUMÉ

We report an unusual case of a 10-year-old female with complaints of pain and swelling of the right knee for the last 4 years along with the limitation of movement for last 1 year. Repeated fine needle aspirations yielded blood and a provisional diagnosis of hemarthrosis was suggested. Coagulation profile subsequently carried out was found to be within normal limits. Arthroscopic biopsy was performed and tissue was sent for histopathological examination. A diagnosis of synovial hemangioma was made. Subtotal synovectomy was performed and the lesion was completely excised. The patient is completely asymptomatic and shows no signs of recurrence at 1 year.
