OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM compound preparation for tonifying kidney and activating blood circulation, and to provide evidence-based reference for rational drug use in the clinic. METHODS: By retrieving Cochrane library, PubMed, Embase, CBM, CNKI, VIP and Wanfang database, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) about TCM compound preparation for tonifying kidney and activating blood circulation (trial group) versus calcium or non-calcium agents (control group) in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis were included. After literature screening, data extraction and quality evaluation with bias risk evaluation tool and Jadad scale of Cochrane system evaluator manual 5.1.0, Meta-analysis was conducted by using Stata 12.0 software, and trial sequential analysis (TSA) was conducted by using TSA 0.9 software. RESULTS: Totally 18 RCTs were included, involving 1 408 patients. The results of Meta-analysis showed that total response rate [RR=1.35,95%CI(1.17,1.54),P<0.000 1] and bone density[SMD=0.24,95%CI(0.16,0.32),P<0.000 1] of trial group were significantly higher than those of control group; blood calcium [SMD=-0.05,95%CI(-0.09,0.00), P=0.033] of trial group was significantly lower than that of control group. There was no statistical significance in the levels of urine creatinine [SMD=-1.60,95%CI(-5.94,2.74),P=0.470], urinary calcium/urine creatinine ratio [SMD=-0.05,95%CI(-0.14,0.04),P=0.295], urinary hydroxyproline/urine creatinine ratio [SMD=-0.16,95%CI(-1.04,0.72),P=0.726], ALT [SMD=0.51,95%CI(-3.26,4.28),P=0.790], AST [SMD=0.23,95%CI(-5.22,4.77),P=0.929], serum alkaline phosphatase [SMD=-0.22,95%CI(-0.68,0.25),P=0.361], serum phosphate [SMD=-0.02,95%CI(-0.11,0.07),P=0.639], urea nitrogen [SMD=-0.19,95%CI(-0.70,0.31),P=0.453], estradiol [SMD=0.62,95%CI(-0.28,1.52),P=0.177], IL-6 [SMD=-1.78,95%CI(-4.86,1.30),P=0.258] or VAS [SMD=0.55,95%CI(-1.03,2.13),P=0.496] between 2 groups. No server ADR was found in 2 groups. TSA showed that there were extract evidences for total response rate of TCM compound preparation in the treatment postmenopausal osteoporosis. CONCLUSIONS: TCM compound preparation for tonifying kidney and activating blood circulation shows significant therapeutic efficacy for postmenopausal osteoporosis, and can improve serum calcium and bone density with good safety.

Bloodletting therapy is one of the typical treatment modes of traditional Chinese medicine, and acute soft tissue injury (ASTI) is one of the most common indications for acupuncture therapeutics. In this paper, the current situation of treatments and pathological mechanisms of ASTIs, the existing problems of bloodletting therapy in the treatment of ASTIs and the study strategies are systematically analyzed, indicating that bloodletting therapy is significantly effective in the treatment of ASTIs. Breakthroughs in the treatment of ASTIs will be achieved with the application of bloodletting therapy both in clinical practice and experimental research.

Objective To investigate the changes of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T (Treg) cells in elderly patients with septic shock, and to evaluate the effects of the changes on 28-day mortality rate. Methods The 75 consecutive elderly patients with septic shock were recruited from December 2006to December 2008, and the general states and clinical characteristics of them were analyzed. The CD4+ CD25+ FoxP3 regulatory T cells and human leucocyte antigen DR (HLA-DR) were measured by flow cytometer at the 1st, 4th and 7-10th day of septic shock after being diagnosed. Results The patients were at an average age of (69.2±7.5) years, and the 28-day mortality rate was 53.3%.There were no significant differences in the percentage of CD4 + CD25+ FoxP3/CD4+T cells between the survivors and the non-survivors at the 1st day (1.76 % ±0.31% vs. 1.68 %±0.24 %, P>0.05)and the 4th day (1.94%±0.32% vs. 1.82% ±0.28%, P>0.05). However, compared with the survivors, non-survivors had a higher percentage of CD4+ CD25+ FoxP3/CD4+ T cells (2.65%±0.28% vs. 1.79%±0.27%, P<0.01) at the 7-10th day of septic shock after being diagnosed.Furthermore, from the 4th day to the 7-10th day, the expressions of monocyte HLA-DR in the nonsurvivors were significantly lower than in the survivors (P<0. 01), and they were inversely correlated with the percentage of CD4+ CD25+ FoxP3/CD4+ T cells at the 4th day (r=-0.39, P=0.023) and the 7-10th day (r= -0. 58, P<0. 01) respectively. The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the percentages of CD4+ CD25+ FoxP3/CD4+ T cells (OR = 3.47, 95% CI: 1.33-10.0) and HLA-DR (OR= 0. 27, 95% CI: 0.14-0.73) were independent predictors of 28-day mortality rate. Conclusions Persistent higher percentage of CD4+ CD25+ Treg cells in the elderly patients with septic shock indicates that the patients are under the states of immunosuppression and have a higher risk ofmortality in intensive care unit at admission.

Objective: To investigate the effects of acupuncture and combined acupuncture and medicine on the quality of life and the genital endocrine level in postmenopausal women. Methods:Forty-seven patients were randomly assigned to acupuncture and acupuncture plus medicine groups,23 cases in the acupuncture group and 24 cases in the acupuncture plus medicine group. The observed course of treatment was 3 months. A Chinese concise SF-36 questionnaire was used to evaluate the quality of life in the different groups of patients before and after treatment.Meanwhile, radioimmunoassay was used to observe the differences in serum genital hormones:follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and estradiol (E2) contents between pretreatment and posttreatment in both groups. Results: After treatment, there was a significant difference in quality of life between the two groups and it was better in the acupuncture plus medicine group than in the acupuncture group(P< 0.01). E2 content increased more markedly in the acupuncture plus medicine group than in the acupuncture group(P< 0.05). There were no significant differences in FSH and LH contents between the two groups (P > 0. 05). Conclusion: Both acupuncture and acupuncture plus medicine can improve the quality of life and increase obviously low E2 content in postmenopausal women. Acupuncture plus medicine raises the patients' quality of life and E2 content more markedly than acupuncture. It is suggested that both acupuncture and acupuncture plus medicine can improve the symptoms, signs, and physical and mental health, raise the quality of life and ameliorate genital-endocrine environment in postmenopausal women, but a combination of acupuncture and medicine has a better effect.

Objective To observe the influence of Electro-Acupuncture on free amino acid in brain tissue of diabetic rats. Method The diabetic rats were induced by the intra-abdominal injection of alloxan (100 mg/kg once a day for two days). Electro-Acupuncture on Bai Hui and Da Zhui together with quick puncturing along Pang Guang meridian on the back, especially the back Shu points of five Zang organs were applied to alloxan-diabetic rats. Blood glucose and free amino acid were investigated after 6 weeks of Electro-Acupuncture treatment. Results The blood glucose of Electro-Acupuncture group was decreased obviously after treatment (P
