RÉSUMÉ

SUMMARY: This study aims to examine the hand morphometry of healthy young individuals from different countries and investigate the differences between countries in typing of hand based on the morphometric values obtained. In the study, 16 different parameters, including two surface areas and 14 lengths, were measured from the right hand of 579 volunteers (250 females, 329 males) from 7 different countries (Turkey, Chad, Morocco, Gabon, Kazakhstan, Senegal and Syria). Factor analysis was performed on the parameters, cluster analysis was performed according to the factor score obtained, and the hand types in the study were determined. As a result of the study, four different hand types were defined, and the distribution of these types according to countries was analyzed. All parameters showed significant differences between countries in both genders (p<0.05). According to the results of the study, there was a difference between male and female hand types between countries. In females, the type 1 hand type was found only in Gabon, the type 2 hand type was found only in Senegal, the type 3 hand type was found in Turkey, Morocco and Kazakhstan, while the type 4 hand type was significantly distributed in Senegal and Gabon (X2 =104.62; df=18, p<0.05). In males, type 1 hand type was found in Turkey, type 2 hand type in Senegal and Gabon, type 3 hand type in Turkey, while type 4 hand type was significantly distributed in Morocco and Kazakhstan (X2 =76.964; df=18, p<0.05).

ABSTRACT It is half a century since the historical event constituted by the removal of homosexuality as a psychiatric diagnosis from the North American Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Although it is a short period of time, it is hard to believe that fifty years ago, homosexual people lacked many basic civil rights in the United States and various laws criminalized private, freely consented sexual acts between adults. Recalling these significant events in the context of a summarized conceptual history of homosexuality is the main objective of this brief account which, at the same time, can serve as a reminder of many tasks pending in the mental health and human rights of sexual minorities, still victims of homophobia, stigma, and segregation, even more so in countries like Peru.

Objective To investigate the correlation between the manual compression on injection point and the incidence of subcutaneous bleeding after subcutaneous injection of low molecular weight heparin(LMWH)in elderly patients with coronary artery disease. Methods A total of 131 elderly patients with coronary artery disease, who received subcutaneous injection of LMWH after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)at the Affiliated Nanjing Hospital of Nanjing Medical University of China between January 2019 and December 2021,were enrolled in this study.According to whether the manual compression on the injection point was employed or not after the injection of LMWH,the patients were divided into the study group(n=67)and the control group(n=64).The operation process of subcutaneous injection of LMWH was carried out in accordance with the"Supervision Standard for Nursing Quality of Hypodermic Injection of Low Molecular Weight Heparin"which was included in the norms formulated by authors'hospital. For the patients of the study group, the injection point was manually pressed for 3-5 min after the injection of LMWH,the manually-used force was to press the skin down for 1cm deep. The incidence of subcutaneous bleeding was compared between the two groups. Results In the study group and the control group, the incidence of subcutaneous ecchymosis was 9.0%and 7.8%respectively,the incidence of subcutaneous hard tubercle was 4.5%and 1.6%respectively,the differences between the two groups were not statistically significant(both P>0.05).The patient's age, gender, abdominal circumference and body mass index(BMI)carried no obvious correlation with the subcutaneous bleeding after LMWH injection(P>0.05),while a statistically significant correlation existed between the abdominal wall fat thickness and the subcutaneous bleeding(P<0.05),which could be used as an independent predictor for the occurrence of subcutaneous bleeding after LMWH injection. Conclusion No obvious correlation exists between the manual compression on injection point and the incidence of subcutaneous bleeding in elderly patients with coronary artery disease after subcutaneous injection of LMWH,therefore,no compression manipulation, used as a hemostatic measure,is required after subcutaneous injection of LMWH.The abdominal wall fat thickness is an independent predictor for subcutaneous bleeding after injection of LMWH.Standard operation procedures should be strictly followed so as to avoid the occurrence of subcutaneous bleeding after injection of LMWH.(J Intervent Radiol,2024,32:77-81)

Fascia, the initial response site for mechanical stimulation in manipulations,is also the target of the effect of manipulations. As the essence of manipulation is"force",how mechanical stimuli are transduced into neuroelectric and biochemical signals in the fascia and how physical and chemical signals of the fascia initiate the mechanical stimulation effect are the common key questions in the study of the principle of manipulation. The physical changes in the fascial connective tissue caused by the manipulation, such as the deformation and displacement of the fascial tissue, can act on the nerve end receptors in the fascial layer and generate neural electrical signals;they can also activate the mechanoreceptors on the fascial cell membrane and convert mechanical signals into chemical signals via mechanosensitive ion channel transduction, triggering a physicochemical coupling response in the fascial microenvironment and producing mechanical stimulation through neuro-endocrine-immune system pathways. The"mechanical force of manipulation"in the fascia is transmitted through the meridian to facilitate the body's perception and transmission of mechanical stimulation signals, indicating that the fascia is the"sensor"of coupled response to the physicochemical information of mechanical stimulation of manipulation.

Background Cold environments reduce work efficiency and increase the risk of frostbite. Objective To investigate the effects on cold protection and manual performance of rescue gloves in cold environments, and to preliminarily verify the feasibility of related quantitative characterization methods. Methods An experiment was conducted in a large and a small artificial climate chamber. 12 male right-handed university students were recruited. The experiment was divided into two parts, with 0-10 min as the baseline phase and 10-50 min as the test phase. Subjects sat quietly in a 16 ℃ large chamber, and hands were exposed to a small chamber at 0 ℃ either barely (control group) or with rescue gloves (experimental group). Skin temperatures of the five fingers (thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger, and little finger), as well as the dorsal and palm of the hands were measured. In addition, grip strength, manual dexterity, maximum finger flexion, and tactile sensitivity of the hands were measured as the indicators of manual performance. Results In the control group, cold-induced vasodilation occurred when the skin temperature of the five fingers were lowered to about 10 ℃. The maximum rate of change in skin temperature of the control group was in the following order: thumb>index finger>middle finger>little finger>ring finger>dorsal>palm, 165.7 ℃·h−1 in the thumb, 80.0 and 89.9 ℃·h−1 in the palm and dorsal respectively. In addition, the minimum skin temperature of the thumb was 6.6 ℃. Compared with the control group: the rate of change of skin temperature in the experimentalgroup decreased by about 50%; the grip strength decreased by 15% after wearing the rescue gloves (P<0.05); no differences in manual dexterity, maximum finger flexion, and tactile sensitivity were statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusion This study proved that the rescue gloves improved the thermal comfort of hands while better balancing the effect of cold exposure on manual performance. The quantitative characterization methods can evaluate the protective performance and manual performance of the rescue gloves, which provides a reliable theoretical foundation and reference basis for further experiments.

They were randomly divided into two groups: 31 cases(31 eyes)in the control group were applied with the “traditional two-step method” using slit lamp to mark the target axial position of the IOL, and 31 cases(31 eyes)in the experimental group were applied with the smartphone-assisted “two-step method” to mark the target axial position of the IOL. The Callisto eye navigation system was used as a standard reference, and the deviation of the reference marking point(deviation-1), the deviation of the target axial marking point(deviation-total), and the deviation of the angle from the reference marking point to the target axial marking point(deviation-2)were calculated and recorded as the preoperative axial marking time.RESULTS:Both deviation-1 and deviation-total values were lower in the experimental group than those in the control group(1.06°±1.39° vs 2.48°±2.23°, 1.77°±1.54° vs 2.81°±1.58°, all P<0.01), but there was no significant difference in the deviation-2 values between the two groups(1.35°±1.40° vs 1.48°±1.79°, P>0.05). The preoperative axial marking took shorter time in the experimental group than in the control group(1.77±1.70 min vs 2.88±3.20 min, P<0.01).CONCLUSION: The smartphone-assisted “any-point two-step method” for finding the target axial position in cataract phacoemulsification combined with IOL implantation is simple, time-saving, and accurate compared with the “traditional two-step method”.

@#Objective To compare the therapeutic effects of manual reduction and machine reduction in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV)at different ages. Methods Randomly select 300 patients clinically diagnosed with BPPV who visited the Hearing Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from April 2022 to December 2023.They were divided into young and middle-aged group of 170 cases(18-59 years old)and elderly group of 130 cases(≥60 years old)according to age. Each group was further divided equally into experimental group and control group based on the diagnosis and treatment methods adopted by the patients. The experimental group patients were treated with a benign paroxysmal positional vertigo diagnosis and treatment system(model/specification:SRM-Ⅳ)for machine reduction. The control group patients were treated with manual reduction.Compare the effective rate of reduction, reduction frequency, incidence of residual dizziness symptoms, and duration of each group. Results In young and middle-aged patients, the incidence and duration of residual dizziness symptoms after reduction in experimental group were significantly lower than those in control group(P<0.05),and there was no statistically significant difference in the effective rate and number of reductions(P>0.05).In elderly group, the reduction efficiency of experimental group was significantly higher than that of control group, and the reduction frequency was lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence and duration of residual dizziness symptoms after reduction(P>0.05).Conclusion Machine reduction can significantly improve the reduction efficiency of elderly BPPV patients, significantly shorten the duration of residual dizziness after reduction treatment in young and middle-aged patients, and reduce its incidence.

Abstract@#Blood donation institutions mainly rely on manual identification for pre-donation health screening of blood donors. To further ensure the safety of blood donation and minimize the participation of unqualified donors, Ningbo Central Blood Station developed and launched a pre-blood donation health screening software as a supplement to the manual identification in May 2023. The software establishes preset rules based on the conditions of donors who are ineligible or temporarily ineligible to donate blood in Whole Blood and Component Donor Selection Requirements (GB 18467-2011), retrieves the health records of blood donors from the Ningbo National Health Information System and compares with the preset rules. When a preset rule is triggered, the medical examiner receives a warning. The pre-donation health screening software effectively enhances the capabilities of blood donation institutions in identifying unqualified donors. It is conducive to promoting the standardization of the pre-donation health screening process, the intelligence of blood donation services and blood management, and the establishment of a more scientific and efficient pre-donation health screening procedure.
