RESUMO
Covid-19 pandemic has affected the whole word medically, economically and emotionally. It is being considered as the biggest pandemic after the Spanish flu, with very high degree of morbidity and mortality in those with complications. The diagnostic and treatment criteria of this novel virus are being updated frequentlyas nothing much is known about it. This highlights the importance of hematology lab parametersin Coviddiagnosis and prediction of disease progression. Multiple studieson complete blood counts and it’s derived parametershave beenconductedin patients of Covid-19however limited literature is available whichdiscussesthe morphology of circulatingblood cellsin Covid-19 cases. This short communicationis presentedwith the purpose of highlighting theperipheral blood findings of 50 lab confirmed Covid-19 cases admitted atSuper SpecialtyPediatric Hospital and Post Graduate Teaching Hospital, NOIDA.Keywords: Covid-19; morbidity and mortality; SARS CoV2; real time RT-PCR.Short Communication
RESUMO
TB in India is extremely common especially in young and adults as compare to other age groups. It is more common in the female population in India where women remain poor and neglected. We present the case of a 35-year-old male who presented with a thyroid lump. On examination, there was a solitary, non-tender, and firm swelling on the left midline neck with no evidence of lymphadenopathy. Ultrasound of thyroid revealed multinodular goiter with the largest nodule (3.5 × 2 cm) in the right lobe of the thyroid. Ultrasound-guided FNAC revealed follicular cells on a background of lymphocytes making a diagnosis of thyroiditis and underwent hemithyroidectomy for the same
RESUMO
Lung cancer is regarded as one of the most common cancers in the world with a worldwide occurrence of approximately 1.8 million cases and an estimated mortality of 1.6 million in 2012 alone.1 In the United States, there are approximately 2,25,000 new cases of lung cancer with over 1,60,000 deaths annually. Lung cancer is a very serious problem of the Indian subcontinent, especially in the lower socioeconomic subgroups. In India lung carcinoma is the 5th most common tumor and 2nd most common tumor in the males as per the ICMR [Indian Council Of Medical Research] registry of 2002.It accounts for 6.9% of new cancer cases detected each year.3 The importance of study of stem cells and cancer stem cells lays in CSC acting as prognostic and therapeutic markers. It is a known fact that there are innate stem cells present in the lining of the bronchial epithelium, at the carina and alveolar lining which help in regeneration of lungs post injury , however there are present similar cells which post driver mutations are christened CSC and help in cancer survival, growth and chemo resistance. CSC also known as “cancer stem-like cells” (CSLCs), or “tumor-initiating cells” (TICs) are heterogeneous cell population comprising of a small subpopulation of cancer cells with the property of self-renewal and differentiation. CSCs are thought to be responsible for cancer initiation, progression, metastasis, recurrence, and drug resistance.Important CSC under study in lung are, CD 133, ALDH 1, CD 44,ABCG2 etc.
RESUMO
Prevalence of obesity worldwide is on an increase at an alarming rate with USA alone showing a 37.5% increase in obese individuals. Obesity is defined by the basal metabolic rate of the individual however off-late waist is to hip ratio has gained precedence over simple BMI in diagnosing Obesity. Post mortem in obese is challenging not only due to the logistics involved but also due to the various co- morbid conditions that an obese individual will have. Adipose tissue is now being looked upon as an entire organ in itself rather than a simple inert tissue and this organ is capable of releasing chemicals which control some of the major metabolic functions of the body. Various diseases occurring with obesity as a cause under study are OSA,OSH, Cancer etc. which we will discuss in this article.
