RESUMO

AIM:To compare the differences, correlations and consistency of IOL Master 700 or Lenstar LS900 in preoperative ocular biometry and the accuracy of intraocular lens(IOL)degree calculation of cataract patients with high myopia.METHODS: Retrospective study. A total of 136 cases(136 eyes)of high myopia and cataract patients who underwent phacoemulsification at the ophthalmology department of Army Medical Center of PLA from March 2021 to March 2023 were collected, with a mean age of 57.38±8.08 years. Patients were divided into 3 groups based on axial length(AL): 41 eyes in group A(26 mm≤ AL ≤28 mm), 43 eyes in group B(28 mm< AL ≤30 mm)and 52 eyes in group C(AL >30 mm). AL, mean keratometry(Km), anterior chamber depth(ACD), lens thickness(LT)and white-to-white(WTW)were preoperatively measured by two instruments, respectively. Barrett Universal II formula was used to calculate the IOL degrees of all patients, the appropriate reserved diopter was decided individually, and the prediction error(PE)and absolute error(AE)of the two instruments were compared.RESULTS:The AL and ACD of patients in the three groups measured by Lenstar LS900 were higher than the AL measurd by IOL Master 700(all P<0.05), with a difference of AL measured by the two devices: group C>group B>group A. However, there was no statistical significance in LT, Km, and WTW measured by the two instruments(all P>0.05). All biometric parameters measured by the two devices were positively correlated(all r>0.9, P<0.05), and consistent(95% LoA of all groups were narrow). There was no statistically significant difference in AE calculated by the two devices(P>0.05), but the IOL Master 700 calculated a smaller PE than Lenstar LS900(P<0.05), with lower percentage of hyperopic shift in IOL Master 700.CONCLUSION:In cataract patients with high myopia, AL measured by Lenstar LS900 is longer than that by IOL Master 700, and the differences of AL increase along with the growth of AL. Both devices have a good prediction for IOL calculation, but IOL Master 700 has less refractive error, lower percentage of hyperopic shift, and greater clinical advantages IOL Master 700.

RESUMO

The Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway plays an important role in the development and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma and its tumor microenvironment, and abnormal activation of Hh signal can accelerate the growth of tumor. The crosstalk between the Hh signaling pathway and TME is closely associated with tumor growth and the formation of inhibitory tumor microenvironment. Evidence shows that inhibition of Hh signal plays an important role in inhibiting the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma. This article reviews the current research status of the role, mechanism, and potential therapeutic significance of abnormal activation of Hh signal in hepatocellular carcinoma and its tumor microenvironment, so as to provide new ideas for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.

RESUMO

Objective:To explore the effects of amlodipine combined with different doses of atorvastatin and simvastatin on hypertension complicated by atherosclerosis. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 100 patients with hypertension complicated by atherosclerosis who were diagnosed and treated at Jinan 2 nd People's Hospital from August 2019 to August 2020. These patients were divided into control group ( n = 32, amlodipine combined with simvastatin), study group 1 ( n = 34, amlodipine combined with 10 mg/day atorvastatin), and study group 2 ( n = 34, amlodipine combined with 20 mg/day atorvastatin) according to different treatment schemes. All three groups were treated for 6 months. The clinical efficacy, blood lipid level, blood pressure, oxidative stress level, carotid intima-media thickness and plaque area were compared among the three groups. Results:The overall response rates of the control group, study group 1, and study group 2 were 71.88% (23/32), 82.35% (28/34), and 91.18% (31/34), respectively. The difference in overall response rate among the three groups was statistically significant ( χ2 = 4.16, P < 0.05). After treatment, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, 24-hour dynamic blood pressure, diurnal blood pressure, nighttime blood pressure, malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, carotid intima-media thickness and plaque area were statistically different among the three groups ( F = -19.54, -76.61, 11.15, -56.83, -147.35, -23.10, -11.47, -11.65, -128.36, -15.60, -24.52, 25.61, 118.99, -59.23, -81.64, all P < 0.05). The incidence rates of adverse reactions in the control group, study group 1, and study group 2 were 12.50% (4/32), 8.82% (3/34), and 11.76% (4/34), respectively. There was no statistically significant difference among the three groups ( χ2 = 0.25, P = 0.611). Conclusion:Amlodipine combined with atorvastatin is more effective in the treatment of hypertension complicated by atherosclerosis than the amlodipine combined with simvastatin. High-dose atorvastatin is more effective in reducing lipid, controlling blood pressure, improving the level of oxidative stress and clinical symptoms compared with low-dose atorvastatin.

RESUMO

Objective To screen for ferroptosis-related differentially expressed genes(DEGs)of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs)resistance in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods The gene sequencing dataset GSE117846 of NSCLC EGFR-TKIs resistant cells was se-lected from the Gene Expression Omnibus data base(GEO)and screened for DEGs with P<0.05 and | log2 FC |1.Ferroptosis-related genes were collected using the FerrDb database and jvenn was used to intersected the DEGs screened from GSE117846 dataset with the ferroptosis-related genes obtained from FerrDb database.GO function and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of intersection genes were performed, and protein-pro-tein interaction(PPI)network was drawn. The score of intersection genes was calculated by using Cytohubba plug-in in Cytoscape software, and the top 10 genes were used for Hub genes screening.ULCAN and GEPIA2 databases were used to analyze the expression of Hub genes in NSCLC and its effect on the survival prognosis of patients.Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR(qPCR)was used to detect the relative expression levels of Hub gene mRNA in NSCLC patients'cancer tissues, adjacent tissues and in vitro cells to verify the results of bioinformatics analysis. Results A total of 60 ferroptosis-related DEGs of EGFR-TKIs resistance in NSCLC were screened out, including 30 up-regulated genes and 30 down-regulated genes. The 60 genes were mainly enriched in P53 signaling pathway, ferroptosis pathway and FoxO signaling pathway. There were 57 nodes and 99 edges in the PPI network, with an average clustering coefficient of 0.377 and PPI enrichment P<0.01.The Hub gene screened out by Cytohubba plug-in was tumor protein P63(TP63).ULCAN and GE-PIA2 database analysis showed that the expression of TP63 in lung adenocarcinoma tissue was significantly lower than that in normal tissue, while the expression of TP63 in lung squamous cell carcinoma tissue was sig-nificantly higher than that in normal tissue, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).In pa-tients with lung adenocarcinoma, there was no significant difference in the survival prognosis between TP63 high and low expression groups(P>0.05),while in patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma, the survival prognosis of TP63 low expression group was better, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).QPCR showed that TP63 mRNA highly expressed in lung squamous cell carcinoma tissue and lowly expressed in lung adenocarcinoma tissue compared with adjacent tissues(P<0.05).The expression of TP63 mRNA was down-regulated in gefitinib-resistant PC9/GR cells(P<0.05),which was consistent with the re-sults of bioinformatics analysis. Conclusion TP63 may be an important gene linking NSCLC EGFR-TKIs re-sistance to ferroptosis.

RESUMO

Objective: To reveal the similarities and differences in myocardial metabolic characteristics between heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) mice using metabolomics. Methods: The experimental mice were divided into 4 groups, including control, HFpEF, sham and HFrEF groups (10 mice in each group). High fat diet and Nω-nitroarginine methyl ester hydrochloride (L-NAME) were applied to construct a"two-hit"HFpEF mouse model. Transverse aortic constriction (TAC) surgery was used to construct the HFrEF mouse model. The differential expression of metabolites in the myocardium of HFpEF and HFrEF mice was detected by untargeted metabolomics (UHPLC-QE-MS). Variable importance in projection>1 and P<0.05 were used as criteria to screen and classify the differentially expressed metabolites between the mice models. KEGG functional enrichment and pathway impact analysis demonstrated significantly altered metabolic pathways in both HFpEF and HFrEF mice. Results: One hundred and nine differentially expressed metabolites were detected in HFpEF mice, and 270 differentially expressed metabolites were detected in HFrEF mice. Compared with the control group, the most significantly changed metabolite in HFpEF mice was glycerophospholipids, while HFrEF mice presented with the largest proportion of carboxylic acids and their derivatives. KEGG enrichment and pathway impact analysis showed that the differentially expressed metabolites in HFpEF mice were mainly enriched in pathways such as biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, ether lipid metabolism, amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, arachidonic acid metabolism and arginine and proline metabolism. The differentially expressed metabolites in HFrEF mice were mainly enriched in arginine and proline metabolism, glycine, serine and threonine metabolism, pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis, glycerophospholipid metabolism, nicotinate and nicotinamide metabolism and arachidonic acid metabolism, etc. Conclusions: HFpEF mice have a significantly different myocardial metabolite expression profile compared with HFrEF mice. In addition, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, arachidonic acid metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism and arginine and proline metabolism are significantly altered in both HFpEF and HFrEF mice, suggesting that these metabolic pathways may play an important role in disease progression in both types of heart failure.

RESUMO

As a recognized rare and highly fatal disease, hereditary angioedema (HAE) is difficult to diagnose and characterized by recurrent edema involving the head, limbs, genitals and larynx, etc. Diagnosis of HAE is not difficult. However, low incidence and lack of clinical characteristics lead to difficulty of doctors on timely diagnosis and correct intervention for HAE patients. Therefore, it is crucial to improve the awareness of this disease and prevent its recurrence. for HAE patients. In view of absent cognition of doctors and the general public on HAE, patients often suffer from sudden death or become disabled due to laryngeal edema which cannot be treated in time. Thus, based on the Internet mobile terminal platform, the team set up an all-day rapid emergency response system which is provided for HAE patients by setting up "one-click help". The aim is to offer optimization on overall management of HAE and designed the intelligent follow-up management to provide timely assistance and specialized suggestion for patients with acute attacks.

RESUMO

Allergic diseases affect about 40% of the world's population. Environmental factors are important in the occurrence and development of allergic diseases. Dust mites are one of the most important allergens in the indoor environment. The World Health Organization proposes the "four-in-one, combination of prevention and treatment" treatment principle for allergic diseases, in which environmental control to avoid or reduce allergens is the first choice for treatment. Modern people spend much more time at home (including sleeping) than outdoors, and the control of the home environment is particularly critical. This practice introduces the hypoallergenic home visit program, which including home environment assessment, environmental and behavioral intervention guidance, and common household hypoallergenic supplies and service guidance for the patient's home environment. The real-time semi-quantitative testing of dust mite allergens, qualitative assessments of other indoor allergens, record of patients' household items and lifestyle, and precise, individualized patient prevention and control education will be conducted. The hypoallergenic home visit program improves the doctors' diagnosis and treatment data dimension, and becomes a patient management tool for doctors outside the hospital. It also helps patients continue to scientifically avoid allergens and irritants in the environment, effectively build a hypoallergenic home environment, reduce exposure to allergens in the home environment, and achieve the goal of combining the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases.

RESUMO

AIM: To compare the difference and consistency of corneal refractive power and astigmatism measured by CASIA2 and IOL Master 700 in patients with age-related cataract.METHODS: Retrospective study. A total of 153 patients(232 eyes)with age-related cataract admitted to Daping hospital from November to December 2021 were selected. The flat keratometry(Kf), steep keratometry(Ks), mean keratometry(Km), degree and axis of astigmatism(vector representation J0 and J45)of the anterior, posterior surfaces together with the total cornea from cataract patients were measured by CASIA2 and IOL Master 700, respectively. The difference, correlation and consistency of the two instruments were analyzed.RESULTS:There was no significant difference in J45 values of posterior corneal surface measured by CASIA2 and IOL Master 700(-0.006±0.038D vs. -0.005±0.044D, P>0.05), but there were significant differences in other parameters(all P<0.05). All parameters measured by the two instruments were significantly positive correlated(all r/rs>0.7, P<0.001); Bland-Altman analysis showed that the refractive power and astigmatism of the anterior cornea surface measured by the two facilities were in good consistency, while the refractive power of the posterior surface and the whole cornea showed poor consistency.CONCLUSION: CASIA2 and IOL Master 700 showed little differences and good consistency in the refractive power and astigmatism of the anterior, posterior and total corneal surface in cataract patients, which seems interchangeable. However, the refractive power of the posterior surface and the whole cornea has significant differences and poor consistency, which should not be interchange casually.

RESUMO

Background: Pyroptosis is involved in the occurrence of acute pancreatitis, but its role in remote organ injury remains unclear. Aims: To investigate the role and mechanism of NLRP3 inflammasome-dependent pyroptosis in acute pancreatitis- related lung injury. Methods: Thirty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group, severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) group, Z-WEHD-FMK (caspase-1 inhibitor) group and disulfiram (GSDMD inhibitor) group. Experimental SAP was constructed by using 5% sodium taurocholate in the latter 3 groups. Serum levels of amylase, lipase, procalcitonin, and the myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity were determined; the severity of pancreatic and lung injuries was assessed by histopathology and lung wet/dry weight ratio; serum levels of pyroptosis-related inflammatory cytokines and the expressions of proteins involved in pyroptosis pathway in lung tissue were measured by ELISA method and immunohisto- chemistry and Western blotting, respectively. Results: Compared with the control group, the serum biochemical indices, MPO activity, and interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-18 levels in SAP group were significantly increased with aggravated pancreatic and lung tissue injuries; meanwhile, the expressions of NLRP3, caspase-1 and GSDMD in lung tissue were significantly up- regulated (all P<0.05). Pretreatment with caspase-1 or GSDMD inhibitors reduced the severity of pancreatic and lung tissue injuries, improved the serum biochemical indices and MPO activity, and ameliorated the increased pyroptosis - related inflammatory cytokines and pyroptosis pathway - related proteins (all P<0.05). Conclusions: NLRP3/caspase - 1/GSDMD pathway mediated pyroptosis plays an important role in acute pancreatitis-related lung injury, and inhibition of pyroptosis pathways might be a new direction for its treatment.

RESUMO

ObjectiveTo explore the application value of high-risk HPV-DNA detection combined with TCT in cervical lesion screening and follow-up. MethodsThis study was conducted from February 2019 to February 2021. During this period, 241 subjects who were the patients referred from the primary community hospitals to the center for re-examination of cervical lesions. Of which 80 were patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Liquid-based cytology (TCT) technology was used to examine the cervical cytological morphology. The second-generation high-throughput sequencing technology and time-of-flight mass spectrometry technology, independently developed by BGI, were used to screen for HPV-DNA typing. At the same time, biopsy sampling was carried out, and the final pathological diagnosis was made. TCT detection and combined HPV-DNA detection were performed on 80 patients to compare the relationship between TCT alone and TCT/HPV-DNA combined test for the diagnosis and prognosis of CIN Ⅱ and CIN Ⅲ. Follow-up was conducted, and the HPV infection and TCT were re-tested. ResultsAmong the 80 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, 41 cases (51.25%) were between 35 and 44 years old, higher than the other age groups (P<0.001). Compared with either TCT or HPV-DNA, TCT combined with HPV-DNA had obvious advantages in sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value (P<0.05). The recurrence rate in CIN Ⅱ and CIN Ⅲ groups was 9.52% and 16.67% respectively after 18 months of the follow-up. ConclusionTCT detection plays a positive role in cervical pre-cancer screening. By combining high-risk HPV-DNA typing and TCT detection, the detection values of sensitivity and specificity are significantly higher, which can improve the accuracy of cervical lesion screening and is of great significance for the follow-up work.

RESUMO

Objective:To explore the value of convalescent somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) in formulating a prognosis for children with severe disorders of consciousness (DOC) caused by brain trauma, infection or hypoxia. Methods:This was a retrospective cohort study of 286 children with DOC children treated between 2013 and 2021. They were divided into a trauma group ( n=103), an intracranial infection group ( n=101), a hypoxia group ( n=42) and an other-causes group ( n=40). Their consciousness status and functional recovery were obtained in follow-up appointments, and their functional condition 1 year after discharge was assessed using the modified Glasgow Outcome scale (GOS). Results:During 8-year follow-up, 16 had died, with 4 deaths within 1 year. Among the 191 cases followed up to 1 year, children with a bilateral N20 SEP had significantly better functional outcomes than those with unilateral or bilateral N20 absence. For the trauma group, the presence of a bilateral N20 signal was a strong indicator of good functional outcome at the 1-year follow-up, with a specificity of 90.9%, sensitivity of 55.6%, positive predictive value (PPV) of 92.6%, negative predictive value (NPV) of 50% and a positive likelihood rate (PLR) of 6.111. However, for the intracranial infection group, the presence of N20 had a low specificity for predicting good outcomes, though the absence of an N20 potential predicted poor functional outcome at 1 year with a specificity of 82.4%, sensitivity of 62.1%, PPV of 75%, and PLR of 3.517. For the hypoxic group, bilateral N20 could not predict a good prognosis, though its absence meant a poor outcome, with a specificity of 87.5%, sensitivity of 63.6%, PPV of 93.3%, and PLR of 5.818.Conclusion:SEPs during the recovery period can help to formulate a prognosis for children with severe DOC. Traumatic brain injury and the presence of bilateral N20 potentials can be used as a good prognostic indicator. For intracranial infection and hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, the absence of an N20 potential indicates a poor prognosis.

RESUMO

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a prevalent and severe clinical condition characterized by inflammatory damage to the lung endothelial and epithelial barriers, resulting in high incidence and mortality rates. Currently, there is a lack of safe and effective drugs for the treatment of ALI. In a previous clinical study, we observed that Jinyinqingre oral liquid (JYQR), a Traditional Chinese Medicine formulation prepared by the Taihe Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Hubei University of Medicine, exhibited notable efficacy in treating inflammation-related hepatitis and cholecystitis in clinical settings. However, the potential role of JYQR in ALI/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and its anti-inflammatory mechanism remains unexplored. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects and underlying molecular mechanisms of JYQR in ALI using a mouse model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI and an in vitro RAW264.7 cell model. JYQR yielded substantial improvements in LPS-induced histological alterations in lung tissues. Additionally, JYQR administration led to a noteworthy reduction in total protein levels within the BALF, a decrease in MPAP, and attenuation of pleural thickness. These findings collectively highlight the remarkable efficacy of JYQR in mitigating the deleterious effects of LPS-induced ALI. Mechanistic investigations revealed that JYQR pretreatment significantly inhibited NF-κB activation and downregulated the expressions of the downstream proteins, namely NLRP3 and GSDMD, as well as proinflammatory cytokine levels in mice and RAW2647 cells. Consequently, JYQR alleviated LPS-induced ALI by inhibiting the NF-κB/NLRP3/GSDMD pathway. JYQR exerts a protective effect against LPS-induced ALI in mice, and its mechanism of action involves the downregulation of the NF-κB/NLRP3/GSDMD inflammatory pathway.

RESUMO

Obesity-associated protein (FTO) is an important m6A demethylase that regulates RNA methylation modification and can promote the proliferation of acute myeloid leukemia(AML) cells. FTO regulates the methylation level of AML through multiple cellular signaling pathways such as FTO/RARA/ASB2, FTO/m6A/CEBPA, and PDGFRB/ERK, and participates in the occurrence, development, treatment and prognosis of AML. At present, studies have found that a variety of inhibitors targeting FTO have shown good anti-leukemia effects, and the study of FTO will provide new ideas for the treatment of AML. This review focus on the mechanism of action of FTO in AML and the research progress of FTO inhibitors in AML.

RESUMO

Objective:To investigate the effects of different doses of simvastatin and atorvastatin combined with trimetazidine on blood lipids and cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure.Methods:A total of 100 patients with chronic heart failure who received treatment in Jinan Second People's Hospital from September 2019 to August 2021 were included in this study. These patients were divided into three groups according to different treatment methods: group A ( n = 33), group B ( n = 33), and group C ( n = 34). Group A was treated with a conventional dose of simvastatin combined with trimetazidine. Group B was treated with a high dose of simvastatin combined with trimetazidine. Group C was treated with atorvastatin combined with trimetazidine. All patients were treated for 6 months. Cardiac function, blood lipids, inflammatory factors, and excellent and good rates of therapeutic effects post-treatment were compared between the three groups. The adverse events during the treatment were recorded. Results:There were no significant differences in blood lipids, cardiac function, inflammatory factors, and excellent and good rates of therapeutic effects between the two groups (all P > 0.05). After 6 months of treatment, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol [(1.99 ± 0.25) mmol/L, (2.01 ± 0.16) mmol/L] and left ventricular ejection fraction [(51.29 ± 4.15)%, (51.37 ± 4.44)%] in groups B and C were significantly higher than those in group A [(1.52 ± 0.16) mmol/L, (42.28 ± 4.86)%, t = 9.10, 6.24; 8.10, 11.38, all P < 0.05). Caspase-1 [(42.33 ± 3.19) ng/L, (41.87 ± 3.55) ng/L], interleukin-18 [(54.55 ± 4.39) ng/L, (53.98 ± 4.45) ng/L], left ventricular end-systolic diameter [(35.13 ± 2.13) mm, (35.68 ± 2.46) mm], left ventricular end-diastolic diameter [(44.39 ± 3.65) mm, (44.42 ± 3.32) mm], low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [(2.69 ± 0.39) mmol/L, (2.57 ± 0.13) mmol/L], total cholesterol [(3.79 ± 0.13 ) mmol/L, (3.56 ± 0.69) mmol/L], triacylglycerol [(1.12 ± 0.05) mmol/L, (1.10 ± 0.07) mmol/L] levels in groups B and C were significantly lower than those in group A [(68.41 ±10.23) ng/L, (88.37 ± 6.65) ng/L, (42.63 ± 3.13) mm, (51.68 ± 5.42) mm, (3.13 ± 0.11) mmol/L, (4.21 ± 0.11) mmol/L, (1.51 ± 0.11) mmol/L, t = -13.98, -24.38, -14.27, -24.95, -6.41, -5.64, -8.00, -10.12, -14.17, -18.54, -12.53, -19.01, -5.35, -18.26, all P < 0.05]. 6-minute walking distances [(352.19 ± 25.4) m, (351.74 ± 24.29) m] in groups B and C were significantly longer than that in group A [(319.71 ± 21.11) m, t = 6.63, 5.75, both P < 0.05). The excellent and good rates at 3 and 6 months after surgery in group B was significantly higher than that in group A ( χ2 = 4.00, 4.16, both P < 0.05), but the incidence of adverse reactions in group B [18.18% (6/33)] was significantly higher than 3.03% (1/33) in group A and 2.94% (1/34) in group C (both P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between group A and group C ( P > 0.05). Conclusion:Atorvastatin and high-dose simvastatin alone combined with trimetazidine can achieve good therapeutic effects on chronic heart failure. Both combined therapies are beneficial to improve heart function and reduce myocardial damage. However, atorvastatin combined with trimetazidine is safer than high-dose simvastatin combined with trimetazidine.

RESUMO

ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to investigate change of platelet count in red blood cell (RBC) units at different storage periods and explore the efficiency of platelet removal by leukocyte filter. MethodsA total of 58 RBC units were divided into four groups according to different storage periods: 1 week Group (16), 2 weeks Group (16), 3 weeks Group (14) and 4 weeks Group (12). RBC units in the four groups were filtered through leukocyte filter. The RBC samples before and after filtration were obtained. The platelet count was detected by automatic blood cell counter and the efficiency of platelet removal was calculated. RBC samples before filtration were made into blood cell smears. The blood cell smears were dyed with Wright-Giemsa stain, and the morphology of platelets was observed through a microscope. ResultsThe platelet count in RBC units stored for 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks was (286.5±62.34)×109/L, (238.0±57.37)×109/L, (193.6±56.21)×109/L and (167.8±24.76)×109/L, respectively. Platelet count in blood stored for 3 weeks (P<0.01) and 4 weeks (P <0.000 1) were significantly lower than those stored for 1 weeks. When observed in the blood smears of RBC units at different storage periods, platelets with normal morphology were distributed in clump and scattered style. The platelet removal rates of the four groups were (80.13±9.06) %, (76.41±10.13) %, (77.78±9.30) % and (70.63±9.39) %, respectively, with no significant difference (P >0.05). ConclusionsPlatelet count in RBC units decreases gradually as the storage period increases, but most platelets still remain in RBC units of late storage periods (3 weeks and 4 weeks). The leukocyte filter is able to remove most of the platelets, and the removal efficiency is similar among the groups.
