RESUMO

Objective To evaluate the impact of Montessori-based intervention on eating ability of the elderly with dementia. Methods Sixty-four patients with dementia were randomly divided into intervention group(n=32) and control group(n=32).Patients in intervention group were given Montessori-based intervention, and patients in control group received regular care. The effect of Montessori-based intervention on eating ability, eating difficulty and self-eating time were assessed by the simplified Chinese version of EBS (C-EBS),simplified Chinese version of Edinburgh feeding evaluation in dementia scale (C-EdFED) and stopwatch respectively at pre-intervention,post-intervention,1-month and 3-month follow-up.Results Compared with the control group (EBS:(12.42± 3.59);EdFED:(10.48± 3.83);self-eating time:(15.28±6.04) min)),the average scores of EBS(14.31±2.63) increased and the self-eating time ((21.44±7.17)min) increased after 8 weeks intervention in intervention group, while the average scores of EdFED (7.86±4.16) increased. The C-EBS scores and self-eating time in intervention group were significantly higher than that of control group while the C-EdFED scores were lower than that of control at all time points(P<0.01).The difference in time effect between the two groups was statistically significant (P < 0.05)Conclusion The Montessori-based intervention can improve the eating ability of elderly people with dementia, reduce eating difficulty and increase self-eating time.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the types of supplementation on performance and the diurnal feeding behavior of crossbred Santa Inês lambs maintained in aruana (Panicum maximum cv. Aruana) pasture grass overseeding with oat (Avena sativaL.) and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) pasture in a completely randomized design with three treatments and three replications. The lambs were randomly assigned to three food systems of six animals each, PAST - lambs fed only pasture; SIL - lambs fed pasture and supplemented (1% of live weight) with corn silage; CONC - lambs fed pasture and supplemented with concentrate. Animals supplemented with concentrate presented average daily gain 37,5% higher, but did not differ from supplementation with corn silage. Grazing time was higher for non-supplemented animals compared with supplemented animals. Lambs maintained in pasture and supplemented with corn silage or concentrate gain more weight than non-supplemented lambs.

RESUMO

Objective To study shorten the time of initial oral intake and fluid intake after general anesthesia in patients receiving oral and maxillofacial surgery, and to reduce the patient′s discomfort and adverse reactions and promote the postoperative recovery. Methods A total of 160 patients were divided into control group and observation group with 80 cases each by random digits table method from April to September in 2014. Patients in control group were allowed to take food orally 6 h after they emerged from anesthesia; while those in observation group were allowed to drink water after 2 h at emergence from anesthesia and take liquid food after 4 h. The mis-aspiration,the fasting glucose, blood pressure, heart rate and the rate of thirst, hunger, nausea, vomiting were observed. Results The rate of thirst, hunger, nausea, vomiting in observation group were significantly lower than those in control group(4 cases vs. 73 cases, 15 cases vs. 76 cases, 10 cases vs. 29 cases, 1 case vs. 7 cases), and there were significant differences, P0.05, the t value of systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure were-2.73,-2.56. Conclusion Shorten the time of taking food for patients undergoing the oral and maxillofacial surgery,in order to relieve uncomfortable symptoms, prevent hypoglycemia and the hemodynamic disturbance after anesthesia, and promote recovery, early postoperative feeding should be suggested on the premise that they are fully awake.

The study was conducted to determine the intake, nutrient digestibility and ingestive behavior of Brazilian Somali lambs fed different levels of metabolizable energy (ME). Forty non-castrated Brazilian Somali lambs with average weight of 13.47±1.76kg were used. The animals were assigned to a randomized block design with eight replications per block and five diets with increasing metabolizable energy (1.18, 2.07, 2.25, 2.42 and 2.69 Mcal/kg DM). The quadratic effect (P<0.05) of the ME level was determined for DM, CP, NDF and FC (g/day) and DM (g/kg0,75) and NDF(%PC and g/kg0,75) intake, as well as the digestibility coefficients (P<0.05) for CP, NDF and CF. A linear effect (P<0.05) was observed for digestibility of DM, OM and NFC with the increase of ME in the diet. Eating and idle results (hours/day) were influenced by the energy levels (P<0.05) and efficiencies of feeding and rumination (g NDF/h) showed a quadratic effect (P<0.05). It is concluded that the increase of ME levels in the diet influences intatke, nutrient digestibility and ingestive behavior of Brazilian Somali lambs...
