Objective:To investigate the preventive and therapeutic effects of compound wild chrysanthemum eye pad on blue light-induced alteration of meibomian gland function in mice and its mechanism.Methods:Sixty-four 15-week-old male C57BL/6J mice were divided into two groups of 32 mice each according to random numbers for the prevention test and the treatment test.The respective 32 mice in the prevention and treatment experiments were randomly divided into normal group, blue light group, solvent group and eye pad group according to random numbers, with eight mice in each group, respectively.In the prevention experiments, mice in each group were exposed to blue light at a wavelength of 460 nm and a light intensity of 2 000 lx for 6 hours per day for 15 consecutive days to establish a mouse model of meibomian gland function changes except for the normal group.The solvent group and the eye pad group were treated with the corresponding eye pad before and after the blue light exposure for 25 minutes daily for the 15 consecutive days.The blue light group was treated with blue light exposure only for 15 days, and the mice were photographed at the edge of the meibomian gland on day 15 to observe the function of the meibomian gland except for the normal group.In the treatment test, all groups of mice except the normal group were induced the altered function of the mouse meibomian gland by the above method.The solvent and eye pad groups were treated with corresponding eye pads for 25 minutes in the morning and afternoon of each day for 15 consecutive days after blue light exposure.The blue light group was kept in a standard environment for 15 days and the changes in meibomian gland function of mice were detected by meibomian gland photographs on day 15.Photography of the eyelid margin in vitro, oil red O staining, and hematoxylin-eosin staining were performed to observe the histologic changes in the meibomian glands of mice after the preventive and experimental treatment.The relative expression of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) mRNA in mouse meibomian gland tissues was detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR.The expression of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and phosphorylation of NF-κB (p-NF-κB) proteins in mice meibomian gland tissues was detected by Western blot to assess the degree of amelioration of blue light-induced inflammation in mouse meibomian glands by the compound wild chrysanthemum eye pad.This study was conducted in accordance with the Statement of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology on the Use of Animals in Ophthalmology and Vision Research, and was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Xiamen University (No.XMULAC20220258). Results:Compared with the normal group, a gradually increased number of blocked meibomian gland openings, and a gradually decreased remaining area of lower meibomian gland, were observed in the mice after 15 days of blue light group, and all the differences were statistically different (all at P<0.05). In the prevention test, the number of obstructed opening in the eye pad group was 1.833±0.753, which was significantly less than 3.667±1.033 in the solvent group ( P<0.05). The relative remaining area of the lower lid meibomian gland in the eye pad group was 0.718±0.091, which was significantly greater than 0.624±0.130 in the solvent group ( P<0.05). Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed inflammatory cell infiltration in mouse meibomian gland in the blue light and solvent groups.There was no inflammatory cell infiltration in eye pad group, and the morphology of the acini was similar to that of the normal group.Oil red O staining showed that there was no significant lipid deposition in the groups.The relative expressions of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ mRNA were significantly lower, and the relative expressions of NF-κB and p-NF-κB proteins were significantly lower in the eye pad group than in the solvent group, showing statistically significant differences (all at P<0.05). In the treatment test, the number of obstructed openings in the eye pad group and solvent group was 4.333±1.211 and 4.833±1.722, respectively, and the relative remaining area of the lower meibomian gland was 0.572±0.151 and 0.588±0.154, respectively, showing no statistically significant differences (both at P>0.05). Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed inflammatory cell infiltration in mouse meibomian glands in the blue light and solvent groups, with a similar morphology of acini as in the normal group.There was no inflammatory cell infiltration in eye pad group.Oil red O staining showed that there was no significant lipid deposition in the groups.The relative expressions of IL-1β, IL-6, and IFN-γ mRNA were significantly lower and the relative expressions of NF-κB and p-NF-κB proteins were significantly lower in the eye pad group than in the solvent group (all at P<0.05). Conclusions:Compound wild chrysanthemum eye pad may have preventive and therapeutic effects on blue light-induced changes in meibomian gland function by reducing the inflammatory response of meibomian gland tissue through the inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway.

Referring to ZHANG Xichun's experience in treating dysentery from cold-fire accumulation, the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) in this paper can be divided into three stages including cold-fire accumulation stage, excessive heat and putrid intestine stage, and healthy qi deficiency and pathogen lingering stage. For people with slippery and excess pulse in the cold-fire accumulation stage, Xiaochengqi Decoction (小承气汤) added with Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) and Gancao (Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae) can be used for purgation, while those with deficient pulse, Huazhi Decoction (化滞汤) or Xieli Decoction (燮理汤) can be used. In the excessive heat and putrid intestine stage, Tongbian Baitouweng Decoction (通变白头翁汤) and Jiedu Shenghua Elixir (解毒生化丹) are suggested. In the healthy qi deficiency and pathogen lingering stage, it is advised to use Jiedu Shenghua Elixir added with Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), and Sanbao Porridge (三宝粥). Additionally, the medication rules, dosage and administration characteristics of Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis)-Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi), Yadanzi (Fructus Bruceae), Diyu (Radix Sanguisorbae), Shanyao and Liuhuang (Sulphur) by ZHANG Xichun have been summarized with the help of modern pharmacological research, so as to provide new ideas for the treatment of UC by TCM.

This review compares Chinese and international guidelines/consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of alopecia areata in the past 3 years, and analyzes the epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis, severity assessment methods and treatment of alopecia areata, so as to provide a reference for standardized and individualized diagnosis and treatment of alopecia areata in China.

White matter injury in preterm infants is a unique form of brain injury.It is one of the most common cause of chronic neurological diseases such as cerebral palsy and various neurobehavioral disorders.Perinatal infection, inflammation and hypoxic ischemia are related to the pathophysiology of white matter injury in preterm infants.Signals released by the gut microbiota, such as microbial metabolites, can modulate inflammatory and immune responses characterized by microglial activation, and ultimately it affects the differentiation of premyelin oligodendrocytes and causes white matter injury in preterm infants.Recently more attention has been paid to the role of gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of white matter injury in preterm infants.This article reviews the progress of "microbiota-gut-brain axis" involved in the pathogenesis of white matter injury in preterm infants, so as to provide reference for further prevention and treatment of white matter injury.

Background In the process of greenhouse working, labor intensity is high and repetitive work involves multiple body parts such as limbs, neck, upper back, and lower back. The prevalence and comorbidity of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in greenhouse workers are worthy of attention. Objective This study is conducted to investigate the prevalence and comorbidity, as well as potential influencing factors of WMSDs in greenhouse workers. Methods A total of 722 greenhouse workers were selected as the subjects for a cross-sectional epidemiological survey. Through questionnaire survey and physical examination, basic information of the subjects and the prevalence of WMSDs were collected. The participants were divided into low, medium, and high cumulative exposure groups by cumulative exposure index matrix. Chi-square test was used to analyze the difference of prevalence among different cumulative exposure levels, the correlation between the prevalence of WMSDs in paired sites was calculated as prevalence ratio (PR) by using the log-binomial model, the prevalence of multi-site WMSDs in each group was compared by Wilcoxon rank sum test, and the influencing factors of multi-site WMSDs were evaluated by multi-classification logistic regression model. Results The prevalence rate of WMSDs in the greenhouse workers was 78.7% (568/722). The main affected sites of body were lower back, legs, neck, and shoulders, and associated prevalence rates were 47.6%, 46.0%, 27.1%, and 23.8%, respectively. By constructing a cumulative exposure index matrix, the low, medium, and high cumulative exposure groups contained 121, 196, and 405 workers respectively. The prevalence rates of WMSDs in lower back, legs, or shoulders were significantly different among groups with different exposure levels (P<0.05), and the prevalence rates increased with higher cumulative exposure levels (lower back, \begin{document}${χ} _{{{\rm{trend}}}}

Background Due to long working time and complex and changeable lighting conditions, greenhouse workers' anisometropia is an issue of concern. Objective This study is conducted to evaluate the relationship between solar greenhouse working and anisometropia of workers. Methods Subjects of a solar greenhouse group and a non-greenhouse group in northwest area of China were selected. Questionnaire survey was used to collect general demographicinformation. Standard Logarithmic Visual Acuity Chart (GB 11533—2011) was used to measure naked eye vision before working, the absolute value of binocular visual acuity difference was calculated and converted into classification variables, and both anisometropia absolute value and classification variables of anisometropia were used as indicators to compare the difference of the two groups. A cumulative exposure index that multiplies exposure time and number of greenhouses was further introduced to evaluate cumulative exposure levels of the greenhouse workers and was used to divide them into low, medium, and high cumulative exposure subgroups. Generalized linear model and logistic regression model were used to analyze possible risk factors associated with anisometropia. Results A total of 1002 subjects were enrolled in this study, including 739 workers in the greenhouse group and 263 workers in the non-greenhouse group. The medians (interquartile intervals) of anisometropia of the greenhouse group and non-greenhouse group were 0.1 (0, 0.2) and 0 (0, 0.1) respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The proportions of anisometropia=0, ≤0.2, and >0.2 in the greenhouse group were 34.2%, 55.2%, and 10.6%, respectively, and those in the non-greenhouse group were 58.2%, 34.6%, and 7.2%, respectively. The difference of anisometropia distribution between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). According to the cumulative exposure index, the greenhouse group was divided into low, medium, and high cumulative exposure subgroups, with 154 (21.0%), 188 (25.6%), and 392 (53.4%) workers, respectively. There was no statistical significance in anisometropia among workers with different cumulative exposure levels (P>0.05). The results of multiple generalized linear analysis showed that greenhouse working was a risk factor of anisometropia (b=0.053, P<0.05), and the results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed that greenhouse working was associated with an increased risk of anisometropia (OR=2.586, 95%CI: 1.473-4.539). The results of multiple generalized linear analysis showed that medium exposure level increased the degree of anisometropia after adjusting age, gender, and other factors (b=0.054, P<0.05). Conclusion Solar greenhouse working may be a risk factor for increasing anisometropia in workers.

Background As a new type of vegetable production method, solar greenhouse has been widely promoted nationwide. The influence of solar greenhouse working on blood lipid cannot be ignored. Objective The aim of the study is to explore the relationship between solar greenhouse working and blood lipid and family clustering. Methods A total of 744 solar greenhouse workers in northwestern China were selected as the greenhouse group, and 231 general open field farmers in the same area were selected as the non-greenhouse group. The levels of serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC) in the two groups were detected. Dyslipidemia was determined by a two-classification criteria in the national guideline of 2007. Multiple logistic regression model and multilevel multiple linear regression model were used to explore the relationship of blood lipid with solar greenhouse working, and its family clustering. Results The number of dyslipidemia cases in the greenhouse group and non-greenhouse group was 142 (19.1%) and 43 (18.6%), respectively, and the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed that increasing age (OR=1.019, 95% CI: 1.001-1.038) and increased BMI (OR=1.162, 95% CI: 1.106-1.220) were related to elevated risk of dyslipidemia (all Ps<0.05). The results of multilevel multiple linear regression model showed that the changes of TC, HDLC, and TG/HDLC had family clustering (b=0.238, 95%CI: 0.132-0.430; b=0.044, 95%CI: 0.033-0.065; b=1.003, 95%CI: 0.947-1.059) (all Ps<0.05). Conclusion Solar greenhouse working does not significantly increase the incidence of dyslipidemia, but the levels of TC, HDLC, and TG/HDLC levels in the solar greenhouse workers have family clusters.

Background The aging of the labor force has become a global trend, and various occupational activities can affect blood biochemical indexes and increase the risk of metabolic diseases. Elderly workers are the main laborers in the solar greenhouse industry, and their blood biochemical indexes need more attention. Objective The purpose of this study is to explore the alternation of selected blood biochemical indexes and provide clues for conducting management programs of metabolic diseases in the elderly solar greenhouse workers. Methods The research subjects of the greenhouse group and the non-greenhouse group were selected from a vegetable production base in Northwest China. The elderly workers were selected from a recruited subjects pool for an earlier project by means of matching and non-matching respectively. The matching conditions were gender (consistent), age (±2 years old), body mass index (BMI) (±1 kg·m−2), education level (±1 level), smoking (consistent), and drinking (consistent). Routine clinical tests were used to detect serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC), fasting blood glucose (GLU), and albumin (ALB), and single-factor and multi-factor analyse were used to identify different indexes in matching and non-matching samples, respectively. The matching and the non-matching samples included 80 pairs of subjects and 327 subjects, respectively. Results In the matching sample set, the greenhouse group's HDLC [(1.61±0.34) mmol·L−1] was lower than the non-greenhouse group's [(2.09±0.37) mmol·L−1] (P<0.05), the level of TG/HDLC in the greenhouse group was (1.17±0.74), higher than that in the non-greenhouse group (0.78±0.47) (P<0.05), and the level of LDLC/HDLC in the greenhouse group was (1.87±0.36), also higher than that in the non-greenhouse group(P<0.05), while there was no statistical difference of the other indexes between the two groups (all Ps>0.05). In the non-matching sample set, the results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that solar greenhouse working correlated with decreased HDLC, and increased TG/HDLC and LDLC/HDLC among the elderly workers (all Ps<0.05). Conclusion Solar greenhouse working may correlate with variations of selected blood biochemical indexes in elderly workers, and the occupational health surveillance of elderly workers should be strengthened.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the characteristics of exposure to iron oxide nanoparticles in workplace.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The real-time particle number (NC), surface area (SAC), and mass (MC) concentrations of nanoparticles were measured in various locations of a selected workplace manufacturing iron oxide nanoparticles. The collected particles were analyzed for morphology and elemental composition.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The average NCs and SACs in milling site (16,566 pt/cm3, 106.082 µm2/cm3), packaging site (12,386 pt/cm3, 89.861 µm2/cm3), shipping site (13,808 pt/cm3, 102.071 µm2/cm3), and product storage room (17,192 pt/cm, 115.044 µm2/cm3) of the yellow powder (α-Fe2O3 . nH2O) were all significantly higher than the workplace background concentrations (11,420 pt/cm3, 85.026 µm2/cm3) (all P<0.05). The NC was highly correlated with the SAC (r= 0.784), while both NC and SAC were loosely correlated with the MC (r1=0.323, r2=0.331). Scanning electron microscopy revealed a spindle-like shape of the iron oxide nanoparticle; the chemical composition of the collected particles contained 19.33 weight percent iron (Fe).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The milling site and product storage room of the yellow powder are exposed to a higher concentration of nanoparticles, which are mainly composed of iron oxide nanoparticles. The NC is highly correlated with the SAC.</p>

BACKGROUND: Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) can effectively improve the ischemic resistance of skeletal muscle and reduce the necrotic areas during ischemia-reperfusion; However, the impacts of IPC on contractile function of skeletal muscle during ischemia-reperfusion is unclear.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of IPC on contractile function of skeletal muscle during ischemia-reperfusion.DESIGN: A randomized controlled study by employing experimental animals as subjects.SETTING: Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the 252 Hospital of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS: The experiment was completed in the 252 hospital of Chinese PLA. Totally 14 healthy SD rats were involved.METHODS: A rat right hindlimb ischemic model was utilized, 14 SD rats were randomly divided into control group and experimental group. Control group: sustained ischemia for 4 hours and reperfusion of 1 hour. Experimental group: ischemia for 5 minutes and reperfusion for 5 minutes, after 3 cycles, ischemia for 4 hours and reperfusion for 1 hour continuously of IPC.The isometric twitch contractile force of the right gastrocnemius muscle was measured as a parameter indicating the muscle functional status during is chemia reperfusion. The changes of creatine kinase (CK), malondialdehyde (MDA) in blood sample and the uptake of 99Tcm-methylene diphosphonate (99TcmMDP) in skeletal muscle were measured after 1 hour of reperfusion.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The impacts of IPC on contractile force of gastroenemius and serous CK, MDA and the uptake of 99TcmMDP.RESULTS: The muscle contractile force in the experimental group after four hours of ischemia was (14.32 ± 5.05) g or (25.71 ± 7.58) g after one-hour reperfusion, which was significantly higher than 0 g or (4. 73 ± 2.05) g of control group(P <0. 05). The serous levelsofCK [(104.85 ±9. 84) nkat/L], MDA [ (3 988.60 ± 455.92) nmol/L] and the uptake of 99TcmMDP [ (56.0± 8.1 ) mBq/g per minute] were significantly lower in the experimental group than control group [CK(136.36 ± 14.50) nkat/L, MDA (6 542.90±536.72)nmol/L, and 99TcmMDP (97.3 ±5.8) mBq/g per minute, P<0.05, P <0.01].CONCLUSION: IPC can effectively ameliorate the contractile force of skeletal muscle and reduce the necrotic degree of skeletal muscle. Therefore, IPC has a protective effect on the contractile force of ischemic skeletal muscle.

Objective To study the clinical characteristics and treatment of primary appendicular tumor. Methods The clinical data of 13 patients with primary appendicular tumor treated in our hospital from 1979 to 1999 were retrospectively analyzed. Results The primary appendicular tumors included 4 cases of mucinous tumor, 5 cases of carcinoid, 3 cases of adenocarcinoma and 1 case of leiomyosarcoma. None was diagnosed correctly before operation. All 13 cases were treated by operation. Right hemicolectomy was performed in carcinoid, diameter of which was longer than 1cm, right hemicolectomy and regional lymphadenectomy were performed in adenocarcinoma, and the other five cases were only received appendectomy. The patients were in good general condition after operation. Conclusions Primary appendicular tumor lacked particular symptoms, and the rate of misdiagnosis was extremely high. Barium radiography and ultrasonography were helpful for diagnosis. Intraoperative frozen section detection was very important for diagnosis. Operation is a principle therapy, and suitable operation plan may be key factor for improving the prognosis of the patients with appendicular tumor.

Objective To study the early diagnosis and treatment of liver trauma.Methods Retrospective(analysis) of the clinical data of different therapeutic means for liver trauma was made on 124 cases of liver trauma.Of these, 99 patients underwent operative treatment and 25 patients nonoperative treatment .Results In nonoperative treatment group ,22 patients were cured and 3 patients changed to operation.In operative treatment group, including 3 non-opcrative treatment patients changed to opcration,95 patients were cured ,7 patients died.In this series,the cure rate was 94.4%(117/124); mortality rate was 5.6%(7/124),including 5 patients who died of major blood vessel injury ,and 2 patients who died of multiple organ failure. All patients with postoperative(complications) were cured, including subphrenic infection in 3(cases), hepatic(abscess) in 6 cases , pleural(hydrops) in 8 cases, incisional infection in 7 cases,and(intraabdominal)(abscess) in 2 cases. Conclutions Type I liver trauma can be treated by(nonoperation) ; type II~IV blunt liver trauma can be treated by(nonoperation) under the condition of hemodynamic stability and(intensive)(monitoring) .Type II~VI liver trauma accompanied by massive intra-abdominal bleeding and(injury) of other(organs) should be (operated) (emergently .)
