Abstract Objective: To determine the clinical-epidemiological characteristics, diagnostic feasibility of home respiratory polygraphy and treatment of patients with suspected obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) at cardiovascular risk. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted in patients seen in a cardiology outpatient service with suspected OSA, from January 2015 to December 2019. The information was obtained from medical records, and a descriptive statistical analysis was applied to this information. Results: 138 files were reviewed; only 8% of the home respiratory polygraphs were discarded, because they did not meet the required quality standards. It was demonstrated that 89% suffered from OSA, 60% moderate to severe; in men after 50 years of age. The main cardiovascular risk factors was hypertension (89%). The most prevalent heart disease was hypertension (52%). Cardiovascular pharmacological treatment was improved in 82% of the cases. Cardiac rehabilitation in 30%, noninvasive mechanical ventilation 41%, fixed modality 33%, and self-adjustable 9%, all with telemetry. Conclusions: The prevalence and severity of OSA is higher in the presence of risk or established cardiovascular disease. In the presence of clinical suspicion, it is feasible to confirm the diagnosis with home respiratory poligrafy due to the level of precision and the lower infrastructure required. Greater involvement of the cardiologist in the diagnosis and treatment of this disorder is necessary due to the significant risk of cardiovascular disease it represents.

Abstract Objective: To assess the relationship between internet addiction, quality of life, and sleep problems among adolescents. Method: This research was conducted with a representative sample of 875 adolescents. This cross-sectional study used the Internet Addiction Test, Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ version 4.0, Pediatric Daytime Sleepiness Scale, and sleep duration. Sociodemographic factors were also analyzed. Structural equation modeling was used to investigate relationships between variables. Results: After adjusting the model for covariances between the latent variables of daytime sleepiness and correlations between the physical and emotional domains of quality of life, the authors obtained satisfactory fit indices (RMSEA = 0.031, CFI = 0.926, TLI = 0.909, SRMR = 0.058). Internet addiction was positively associated with daytime sleepiness (rho = 0.549, p < 0.001) and negatively associated with quality of life (rho = -0.173, p < 0.001). By contrast, sleep duration was negatively associated with daytime sleepiness (rho = -0.089, p = 0.007), positively associated with quality of life (rho = 0.105, p = 0.014), and dependent on school shift (rho = 0.453, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Adolescents with higher levels of internet addiction had lower perceptions of quality of life and higher daytime sleepiness. Moreover, sleep duration had a positive correlation with quality of life. Given its detrimental effects on quality of life and daytime sleepiness, parents should better supervise internet use in adolescents.

Abstract Sleep disorders are common in children and affect neurological development with important cognitive, emotional and behavioral repercussions. There is a high prevalence of sleep disorders (SD) in neurodevelop mental disorders (NDD) such as autism spectrum dis order (ASD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Sleep disorders in pediatric population have a prevalence of 6-25%, while in children with NDD this number rises to 50-80%. In NDDs, higher rates of dif ficulties in falling asleep, nocturnal awakenings and daytime sleepiness are observed. Disturbances in the circadian rhythm as well as respiratory sleep disorders are also observed. Consequently, there is a decrease in alertness for daytime activities with increased be havioral disorders, emotional problems and academic difficulties associated with executive and memory dys functions. Sleep assessment has to be a systemic part in the clinical evaluation of children with NDDs, so as to give a convenient diagnosis and treatment in each case, allowing to improve the quality of life of children and their families.

In university students, sleep quality and mental health impairments are related to greater daytime dysfunction and lower academic performance. COVID-19 has harmed the quality of sleep and mental health of several population groups. However, more studies are needed to evaluate the quality of sleep and mental health of university students enrolled in health courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. To evaluate the quality of sleep and mental health of university students in healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic and to investigate possible correlations between the aforementioned aspects in this population. An electronic form containing questions to characterize its sample and other specific questionnaires were used in this cross-sectional study. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep quality and the General Health Questionnaire (QSG-12) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD) were used to evaluate psychological well-being, anxiety, and depression, respectively. Overall, 324 health students participated in this study. Of these, 87.3% of students had poor sleep quality (≥ 5), 74.1% had impaired mental health, and 73.7% had possible or probable anxiety. Furthermore, the PSQI, QSG-12, and HAD scale values showed a moderately positive correlation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, university students in healthcare experienced significant losses in their sleep quality and mental health. In this context, studies must investigate therapeutic options to mitigate these impacts.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of a multicomponent physical exercise program on clinical variables associated with the glymphatic clearance system, sleep-awake patterns, and cognitive function in individuals with mild cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's disease. Methods: This is a single-center parallel randomized controlled trial involving pre- and post-intervention assessments. The intervention consists of a 12 (±3)-week multicomponent aerobic and resistance physical exercise program of moderate intensity divided into 2 groups: an experimental group (undergoing multicomponent training) and a control group (no intervention). Eligible participants are those diagnosed with probable mild cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's disease. Expected results: Anticipated outcomes suggest that the multicomponent training protocol, incorporating both aerobic and resistance physical exercises at a moderate intensity, will yield improvements in glymphatic clearance dynamics, sleep-awake parameters, and performance on cognitive, functional, and behavioral tasks among eligible patients. Relevance: The need to move beyond cognitive clinical testing justifies our trial, which proposes an assessment employing neuroimaging techniques and the analysis of biomarkers present in cerebrospinal fluid in conjunction with clinical tests for physical and cognitive assessment.

During COVID-19, health services and professionals who worked on the front line experienced a challenging scenario with a constant risk of infection by SARS-CoV-2, an increased demand for work, and many uncertainties. This study analyzed the repercussions of COVID-19 on the health of Bahian physical therapists working on the hospital front line. Bahian physical therapists participated in this study, answering questions related to their sociodemographic data, sleep quality, and symptoms of anxiety and depression by an electronic form (Google Forms). Overall, 38 physiotherapists living in Salvador (Bahia) answered this form. In total, 50% worked in Intensive Care Units (ICUs); 65%, in the private sector, and 68% suffered infection from SARS-CoV-2 one or more times. This study found that 77.3% of participants reported the constant fear of infecting their family members and 36% showed emotional exhaustion after working hours; 34.2%, psychological stress; and 26%, physical fatigue. Bahian physical therapists reported that COVID-19 brought major confrontations in the workplace, such as the fear of getting sick and transmitting the disease and, above all, death. Fatigue and psychological stress remained constant in the professional practice, but, despite this, most physical therapists felt satisfied for having acted in such an indispensable way in a delicate and unique moment.

A clinical case of Klinefelter's Syndrome is presented and the aspects related to sleep in these patients are reviewed, being relevant to be addressed and studied due to the causal relationship between the metabolism of affected sex steroids, especially testosterone and how this influences the microarchitecture of sleep and the probability of presenting obstructive sleep apnea syndrome with the cognitive repercussions that can be added to those already described by the syndrome itself. Hence the importance of a targeted follow-up and approach in this aspect, at the time of diagnosis and in long-term follow-up.

In pediatrics, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a disorder associated with multiple consequences at the cognitive and behavioral level. The main associated risk factor is the presence of tonsillar hypertrophy and adenoids. An adenotonsillectomy is the first-line treatment. The incidence of persistent OSAS varies from 15% to 75%, depending on comorbidities. This is a challenge in terms of management; it requires a comprehensive approach for an adequate diagnosis and treatment. The objective of this bibliographic review is to propose a diagnostic and therapeutic approach for persistent OSAS.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the association between anxious-depressive symptomatology and sleep quality in students of the Universidad de Piura (Perú) belonging to the "Beca 18" Program. Methods: Cross-sectional observational study that used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Zung's Self-Anxiety Scale (SAS) and the Zung Depression Scale (SDS). Results: From the 293 participating scholarship students, 62.5% were "poor sleepers", wheras 47.8% and 56.0%, respectively, presented some degree of anxious and depressive symptomatology; as well, it was found that as the anxious-depressive symptomatology increased, the quality of the students' sleep worsened. Thus, a significant relationship (p(p<0.005) between sleep quality and anxiety and depressive symptoms, was documented. Conclusions: There is a significant tendency for Beca 18 university students with anxious-depressive symptoms to concomitantly experience a sleep pattern of poor quality.

Group A received routine western medicine treatment, while group B received routine western medicine combined with cognitive psychotherapy. Both groups received treatment for 8 weeks. Various measures were evaluated at the end of the treatment period, including negative emotions (Hamilton Depression Scale score, Hamilton Anxiety Scale score), shame (Social Impact Scale score), self-efficacy (Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale score), sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score), and clinical efficacy. Results:After treatment, the Hamilton Depression Scale score and Hamilton Anxiety Scale score in group B were (7.83 ± 2.01) points and (9.78 ± 1.94) points, respectively, which were significantly lower than those in group A [(12.15 ± 2.37) points, (13.06 ± 2.32) points, t = 10.50, 8.19, both P < 0.001). The Social Impact Scale score in group B was significantly lower than that in group A [(44.72 ± 4.93) points vs. (51.63 ± 6.10) points, t = 6.65, P < 0.001]. The Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale score in group B was significantly higher than that in group A [(121.65 ± 11.44) points vs. (100.24 ± 10.73) points, t = -10.31, P < 0.001]. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score in group B was significantly lower than that in group A [(7.00 ± 0.85) points vs. (9.83 ± 1.10) points, t = 15.37, P < 0.001]. The overall response rate in group B was significantly higher than that in group A [94.74% (54/57) vs. 80.70% (46/57), χ2 = 5.21, P = 0.022]. Conclusion:Cognitive psychotherapy has a significant impact on patients with cancer and depression, effectively alleviating negative emotions and shame, enhancing self-efficacy, and improving sleep quality. Therefore, it deserves clinical promotion.
