摘要

SUMMARY: The aim of this study was to establish an age-related dynamic of change model for predicting changes in body composition indicators in professional firefighters. The study included a total sample of 145 subjects, comprising professional firefighters from Serbia (Age: 36.6 ± 7.6 yrs., Min - Max: 21.0 - 52.0 yrs.). Four basic variables were analysed: Body Mass - BM, Body Fat Mass - BFM, Skeletal Muscle Mass - SMM, and Visceral Fat Area - VFA, as well as five derived, or index, variables: Body Mass Index - BMI, Percentage of Body Fat - PBF, Percentage of Skeletal Muscle Mass - PSMM, Protein-Fat Index - PFI, and Index of Body - IBC Composition. The results showed a statistically significant dynamic of change as a function of age for eight of the examined variables, while only one (Skeletal Muscle Mass - SMM) was not statistically significant. The highest statistical significance in terms of dynamics of change as a function of age was found for the variable VFA (F = 35.241, p = 000) and the variable PSMM (F = 31.398, p = 0.000). Professional firefighters in Serbia fall into the category of people with normal nutritional indicators. However, due to a dominant increase in visceral fat (VFA) combined with a dominant decrease in the proportion of skeletal muscles in the body (PSMM), it can be concluded that they are exposed to a risk of developing various chronic diseases, while their working conditions, which promote certain negative lifestyle habits, also contribute to the observed increase in body fat components.

摘要

SUMMARY: This study aims to investigate body typologies based on a combination of basic anthropo-morphological characteristics and body composition measured by multichannel bioimpedance in a sample from the adult population of Lebanon. A total of 302 subjects (173 males and 129 females) without acute or chronic health disorders were included in the study. Body composition was measured by the multichannel bioelectrical impedance (BIA) method, using the i30 device (MEDIANA, Korea). The research used 10 variables, including three basic anthropo-morphological variables, three for assessing fat, three for assessing the muscle component, and one index variable. K-means cluster analysis was used to define five specific clusters (5D) of body types based on sex. In light of the results, the study established five distinct clusters representing five different body typologies among Lebanese adults, categorized by sex: Male sample, Group 1 - Obese Endomorph (15.61 %), Group 2 - Balanced Mesomorph (16.76 %), Group 3 - Short Endomorph (30.06 %), Group 4 - Short Mesomorph (34.10 %), and Group 5 - Pathological Obese Endomorph (3.47 %); Female sample, Group 1- Obese Endomorph (2.33 %), Group 2 - Short Endo/Mesomorph (28.68 %), Group 3 - Short Ectomorph (32.56 %), Group 4 - Endomorph (22.48 %), and Group 5 - Balanced Mesomorph (13.95 %). Furthermore, the results indicated that the primary factor contributing to the distinctions among the identified clusters in terms of sex is fat tissue. This leads to the conclusion that eating habits cause the given differences, rather than the level of physical activity, regardless of sex.

摘要

BACKGROUND:Resistance exercise increases muscle mass and improves muscle strength, but there is a lack of conclusive evidence on its effects on body composition.Controversial results from randomized controlled trials and multiple Meta-analyses pose a problem for clinical decisions on exercise interventions. OBJECTIVE:Based on the methodological paradigm of umbrella review,to explore the efficacy and safety of resistance exercise in improving the body composition of overweight and obese people. METHODS:We searched PubMed,Cochrane Library,Web of Science, and CNKI for systematic reviews on the effect of resistance exercise in overweight and obese people published from database inception to August 31,2022.Chinese search terms included"anti-resistance,resistance,self-weight,Meta,Meta-analysis,body composition, body fat percentage, fat mass, lean body mass, body mass."English search terms included"resistance training, strength training,weight-lifting strengthening program, body composition, body fat distribution,Meta-analysis,data pooling, overviews, clinical trial, clinical trial overviews."PRISMA was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the included studies, and a GRADE evaluation system was used to grade the quality of evidence. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:A total of 14 Meta-analyses were included, and GRADE evidence quality evaluation showed that 2 outcome indicators were intermediate,12 were low,and 14 were extremely low.Compared with the control group,23 of the 32 outcome measures showed significant improvement. The intervention effect of resistance exercise on body fat percentage has reached a consensus, but the intervention effects on lean body mass, body mass index and visceral fat still need further confirmation.Resistance exercise is an effective and safe method to improve the body composition of overweight and obese people. The overall quality of the research and the evidence quality of the outcome indicators included in the systematic evaluation are generally low.In the future, the initial state, exercise goal and willingness of the subjects should be fully combined on the basis of clarifying the sample characteristics and refining the scheme design.Through multiple, scientific and personalized exercise prescription designs of water, air and elastic resistance, the safety and compliance of resistance exercise can be improved, providing clear evidence-based support and decision-making basis for resistance exercise intervention.

Objective:To study the relationship between adult fluoride exposure and grip strength in rural areas of China with fluorosis, as well as the roles of basal metabolic rate (BMR) and body fat percentage (BFP) in the association between fluoride exposure and grip strength. Methods:From April to May 2017, a cluster sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey, physical examination, and biological sample collection on residents aged 18 - 60 in Tongxu County, Kaifeng City, Henan Province (epidemic areas of drinking-water-borne fluorosis). A total of 1 168 subjects were included in the study, including 427 males and 741 females. The fluoride ion selective electrode method and the picric acid method were used to determine the concentrations of urine fluoride and urine creatinine, and the adjusted urine fluoride concentration (CUF) was calculated. BMR and BFP were measured by a bioelectrical impendence method, and the grip strength was measured by a Jamar grip dynamometer. The relationship between CUF, BMR, BFP and grip strength were analyzed using a generalized linear model regression. The mediation effect model was used to assess the mediating effect of BMR and BFP on the association between CUF and grip strength. Results:Female grip strength decreased by 0.28 kg ( P = 0.043) for every 1.00 mg/L increment in CUF. No similar association was found between the two in males ( P = 0.744). Regardless of gender stratification, BMR was positively correlated with grip strength ( P < 0.001). For every 1.00% increase in BFP, female grip strength decreased by 0.18 kg ( P = 0.043). The mediation effect model analysis results showed that the mediation effect ratios of BMR and BFP in the association between CUF and grip strength in female were 65.1% ( P < 0.001) and 8.4% ( P = 0.111), respectively. Conclusion:Fluoride exposure is associated with changes in female grip strength, and BMR changes play a partial mediating role in the association between fluoride exposure and female grip strength.

摘要

@#Introduction: In Indonesia, anaemia is known to be extremely common in female adolescents. In addition, the problem of overweight/obesity in teenagers is becoming more prevalent, even in stunting locus areas. This study aimed to examine the correlation between body mass index (BMI) and haemoglobin levels among adolescent girls in Tangerang’s stunting locus area. Methods: This crosssectional study included 171 adolescent girls attending four junior and senior high schools in Tangerang’s stunting locus area. Adolescents who matched the inclusion criteria— healthy, having lived in Sukamantri for more than six months, and willing to participate were chosen by a multistage cluster sampling procedure. Body weight and fat were measured, and Z-score for BMI-for-age was determined. Haemoglobin levels were measured by the Mission Hb Testing System. Multiple linear regression test was applied for the analysis. Results: The prevalences of thinness/severe thinness, normal, and overweight/obesity were 5.3%, 70.8%, and 23.9%, respectively. There were 20% of anaemic girls. Among anaemic girls, there were 26% overweight/obese and no thin/very thin girls. A weak, negative correlation between BMI with haemoglobin levels was observed (R2=0.054, p<0.001). Conclusion: The correlation between BMI and haemoglobin level was weak in our sample of adolescent girls in the stunting locus area. The current study emphasised the importance of additional research that includes several haematological and inflammatory biomarkers to better understand the complex relationship between nutritional status and haemoglobin level.

Objective@#To examine the causal relationships between obesity, peripheral blood lipid indicators and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using Mendelian randomization (MR) method, so as to provide the basis for developing NSCLC prevention and control strategies.@*Methods@#Genetic variation data of three obesity evaluation indicators, including body mass index (BMI), body fat ratio (BFR) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and seven peripheral blood lipid indicators, including triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and lipoprotein a [LP (a)] were collected through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and related public databases. Potential causal relationships between obesity, peripheral blood lipid indicators and NSCLC were analyzed using inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method and multivariable MR analysis upon a random effect model. Heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy of instrumental variables were evaluated using Cochran's Q test and MR-Egger regression.@*Results@#There was statistically association between BMI with NSCLC (OR=1.256, 95%CI: 1.087-1.451); there were no statistically associations between BFR, WHR, seven peripheral blood lipid indicators and NSCLC (all P>0.005). There was heterogeneity in the association between BMI, BFR, WHR, TG, HDL-C and NSCLC (all P<0.05); no horizontal pleiotropy of instrumental variables was found (all P>0.05). There was no statistically association between BMI and NSCLC after adjusting BFR (OR=1.367, 95%CI: 0.878-2.128); there was still statistically association between BMI and NSCLC after adjusting WHR and peripheral blood lipid indicators (both P<0.05).@*Conclusions@#The increase of BMI is associated with the increased risk of NSCLC incidence. BFR may be a potential influencing factor for the association between BMI and NSCLC.

Objective To investigate the difference of the disease progression in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with different muscle mass levels and the influence of related factors on the disease progression. Methods A total of 308 newly diagnosed patients with COPD from February 2021 to February 2022 were selected for this study. All patients were below moderate COPD. The patients were divided into two groups according to their muscle mass levels: sarcopenia group (98 cases) and control group (210 cases). The diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia were based on sarcopenia diagnostic thresholds: RSMI 2 in men and 2 for women. All subjects were followed up for 4 months to observe the progress of the patient's condition. The correlation between the muscle mass level and pulmonary function level, as well as the results of 6-minute walking test and CAT score was evaluated, and the influence of muscle mass level on the patient's disease progress was analyzed. At the same time, the potential influence of related factors (body fat rate, vitamin D level, etc.) on the condition of patients with different muscle mass levels was discussed. SPSS 19.0 software was used to perform statistical analysis. Results Under the same treatment intervention, the baseline and follow-up lung function improvement levels of patients in the sarcopenia group were lower than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). At the same time, the baseline and follow-up 6-minute walk test results of the patients in the sarcopenia group were also worse than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Further correlation analysis was carried out between the patient's muscle mass level and the post-treatment pulmonary function indicators and 6MWD test level. The results showed that the muscle mass level was positively correlated with several pulmonary function indicators (FEV1, FEV1% predict) and 6MWD (both P<0.05). Considering the possible influence of other factors on the control and progress of the patient's condition, the present study used follow-up CAT score results to distinguish the prognosis of the patient's condition improvement, and used improvement and non-improvement as dependent variables to analyze the influence of various potential influencing factors. The results of regression model analysis showed that lower baseline muscle mass, women, lower body fat percentage, and lower vitamin D level were the main risk factors. Conclusion Under the same treatment condition, COPD patients with different muscle mass levels improve more slowly when complicated with sarcopenia and have poor prognosis. Women, lower body fat percentage and lower vitamin D level are potential risk factors for poor prognosis.

摘要

ABSTRACT Introduction: Body composition assessment (BCA) using anthropometric measurements (AM) is used to monitor the nutritional and health status of the elderly. As predictor variables, MAs must be valid, practical, and quick, as they favor adherence and avoid possible resistance and embarrassment on the part of those being assessed and being minimally invasive. Objective: To develop and validate equations using accessible and minimally invasive anthropometric measurements for BCA in elderly women. Methods: 100 women (68.1±6.15 years) were randomly assigned to two groups: validation (n=40; 68.1±6.15 years); and estimation (n=60; 68.4±6.70 years). DXA was selected as the criterion measure, and MAs (body mass, height, skinfolds, circumferences) were selected as predictor variables. Means were compared using the paired Student's t-test; correlations were verified using Pearson's r-test; equations using Multiple Linear Regression. The level of agreement between the groups' results was checked using the Bland-Altman technique. Results: Two equations developed and tested (E3 and E4) met the validation criteria as they showed adequate correlation coefficients (E3: r=0.73; E4: r=0.70), low constant errors (E3: EC= −0.56; E4: EC=-0.90), total error (E3: ET=3.22; E4: ET=3.06) lower than the Standard Error of Estimate (E3: EPE=3.24; E4: EPE=3.21), indicating no statistically significant difference between the two BCA techniques observed (p>0.05). The Bland-Altman technique showed good agreement between the results of the two techniques. Conclusion: Two were validated: E3 (%Gdxa= −41.556 + 4.041(BMI) + 0.165(DcCox) − 0.440(CircCox) + 0.269(CircQuad) − 0.053(BMI)²); and E4 (%GdxaE4= 15.329 + 1.044(BMI) −1.055(CircAbra) + 0.282(CircQuad) + 0.164(DcCox) − 0.262(CircCox)). Notably, the small number of measurements were located in areas of the body that are easily accessible and have little body exposure, which minimizes possible embarrassment and favors adherence by the elderly. Level of Evidence IV; Correlational study to build a predictive equation.

摘要

ABSTRACT Background: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are associated with important changes in nutritional status. Objective: The aim of the study was to compare body fat composition between two anthropometric methods: skinfolds and ultrasonography, in patients with IBD. Methods: Single-center cross-sectional study with IBD patients in remission or active disease. For the agreement analysis between the body fat assessment methods, the Bland Altman method was used. Results: A total of 101 patients with IBD were included, 75 with Crohn's disease and 26 with ulcerative colitis. Approximately 56% of the patients with Crohn's disease and 65.4% of those with ulcerative colitis had a body fat composition above normal levels, with no significant difference between the diseases (P=0.63). The Bland-Altman concordance analysis showed that the methods for assessing the percentage of fat by the adipometer and ultrasound were not in full agreement (P=0.001), despite both presented good correlation (CC 0.961; P=0.000). Conclusion: The analysis of body fat percentage in patients with IBD was different between the skinfolds and ultrasound. Both methods can be used to assess the of body fat percentage of patients with IBD. However, monitoring of body fat sequentially and longitudinally should always be performed using the same method throughout the disease course. Prospective longitudinal studies are warranted to precisely define the role of these two methods of measuring body composition in patients with IBD.

摘要

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is associated with many chronic diseases. METHODS: Obesity and thyroid function tests were evaluated retrospectively and cross-sectionally for 782 obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients. RESULTS: The mean patient age was 49.3±11.5 years, and the majority were obese (67.9%) or overweight (26.6%). The mean age of the patients in Group 2 (moderate/severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome) was higher than that of Group 1 (simple snoring/mild obstructive sleep apnea syndrome). The rate of severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome among obese patients (35.2%) was significantly higher than that of normal-weight (11.6%) and overweight (18.3%) patients (p=0.001). The oxygen desaturation index/apnea-hypopnea index and levels of leukocytes and C-reactive protein were significantly higher, while mean/minimum saturation values and hemoglobin, hematocrit, and free triiodothyronine levels were significantly lower among obese patients compared with overweight and normal-weight patients (p=0.001). Leukocytes, C-reactive protein, and apnea-hypopnea index/oxygen desaturation index values were higher, and mean/minimum saturation values were lower in Group 2 than in Group 1. CONCLUSION: There were relationships between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome severity and body mass index. Obesity could be a critical predisposing factor for sleep disturbances. The prevention and control of obesity is important while being treated for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

摘要

SUMMARY: Athletes differ among themselves and one of the main differences is observed in relation to body shape and composition. Achieving top sports performance requires more standardization in the processes of training and development of a unique methodology for individualizing the control specific adaptation of athletes. The aim of this study is to establish reference data for the most sensitive variables to define the amount and structure of body fat in female athletes in individual sports. The sample included 895 females, divided in: a control group (Cont) of young females (N = 688); International (N = 113), and National level female athletes (N = 94) in 13 individual sports. Four variables described the structureof of body fat: Percentage of body fat (PBF), Body Fat Mass Index (BFMI), Protein Fat Index (PFI) and Index of Body Composition (IBC). Results showed that considering the control group, female athletes have all examined Body Fat variables statistically significantly different (BFMI and PBF are lower, p = 0.011 and p = 0.000, while PFI and IBC are higher, p = 0.000, respectively). Female athletes are also statistically significantly different in relation to the level of competition (p = 0.000), and the investigated variables are responsible for 17.7 % of the variability of the difference between the groups. Competitively more successful female athletes have higher IBC (lower percentage of fat per overall body volume, p = 0.013), as well as, a statistically significantly higher protein mass in relation to body fat mass (PFI, p = 0.018). The most sensitive variables for defining body fat differences between the examined individual sports were IBC, with an influence of 37.9 %, then PFI (32.4 %), then PBF (22.8 %), and finally BFMI, with an influence of 11.4 % on the differences. Based on the results of this study, IBC and PFI are variables that have shown useful scientific-methodological potential for research in the future.

摘要

Objective:To analyze the correlation between quantified body fat distribution measured by computed tomography (CT) and blood lipids in overweight and obese individuals undergoing physical examinations. Methods:In this retrospective cohort study, a total of 3 463 physical examination subjects who underwent chest CT combined with quantified CT examination in the Department of Health Management at Henan Provincial People′s Hospital from January to December 2021 were selected using a comprehensive sampling method. The subjects were divided into three groups: normal group (1, 424 cases), overweight group (1, 531 cases), and obese group (508 cases) based on their body mass index: 18.5 to <24.0 kg/m 2, 24.0 to <28.0 kg/m 2, and≥28.0 kg/m 2, respectively. General information, blood lipid parameters, and different body fat distributions measured by quantified CT (subcutaneous fat area, visceral fat area, total abdominal fat area, liver fat content, muscle fat content) were collected in the three groups. One-way analysis of variance was used to compare differences in body fat distribution and blood lipid parameters, and Pearson correlation analysis was performed to evaluate the correlation between body fat distribution and blood lipids. Results:In the obese group, compared to the normal and overweight groups, subcutaneous fat area, visceral fat area, total abdominal fat area, liver fat content, muscle fat content, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglyceride levels were significantly higher [males: (152.80±49.27) vs (72.94±22.68), (103.79±28.30) cm 2; (287.95±57.55) vs (156.36±49.40), (224.67±53.10) cm 2; (440.75±72.44) vs (229.31±62.01), (328.46±62.77) cm 2; (12.92±8.61)% vs (6.82±3.31)%, (9.39±4.88)%; (9.06±9.34)% vs (4.55±5.06)%, (6.70±6.73)%; (6.52±0.94) vs (4.87±1.03), (6.27±0.96) mmol/L; (3.05±0.76) vs (2.92±0.86), (2.97±0.77) mmol/L; (2.34±1.42) vs (1.53±0.82), (1.99±1.28) mmol/L; females: (213.82±46.87) vs (104.69±30.62), (155.05±34.90) cm 2; (184.88±46.54) vs (90.67±34.09), (138.92±42.06) cm 2; (398.71±71.28) vs (195.37±55.32), (293.97±57.05) cm 2; (11.36±6.34)% vs (5.51±3.02)%, (7.98±4.77)%; (7.44±7.60)% vs (3.70±3.90)%, (5.56±5.94)%; (5.27±0.96) vs (5.04±0.86), (5.11±0.96) mmol/L; (3.26±0.84) vs (2.92±0.79), (3.01±0.74) mmol/L; (1.74±0.69) vs (1.27±0.65), (1.57±0.77) mmol/L], while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was significantly lower [males: (1.17±0.19) vs (1.38±0.28), (1.25±0.25) mmol/L; females: (1.36±0.22) vs (1.59±0.32), (1.42±0.27) mmol/L] (all P<0.001). In males, the visceral fat area and total abdominal fat area in the overweight group were positively correlated with triglycerides ( r=0.175, 0.113) and negatively correlated with HDL-C ( r=-0.125, -0.113), while liver fat content was positively correlated with total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglycerides ( r=0.083, 0.075, 0.206) and negatively correlated with HDL-C ( r=-0.093) (all P<0.05). 摘要

Objective:To detect the incidence of muscle mass loss in the adults and explore its relevant influencing factors. Methods:A total of 1 503 participants aged between 18 and 65 years old were collected from the Department of Preventive Treatment of Disease and Health Management Center of First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from March 2019 to October 2021. All subjects completed physical and laboratory examination and bioelectrical impedance analysis. According to the cutpoint of plasma triglycerides concentration≥1.7 mmol/L, waist circumference≥85 cm in men or≥80 cm in women, 1 503 subjects were divided into four groups: normal triglycerides and waist circumference group, normal waist circumference and hypertriglyceridemia group, abdominal obesity and normal triglycerides group, and hypertriglyceridemic-waist phenotype(HTWC) group. Subjects were also divided into 4 groups according to age. Skeletal muscle mass index(ASMI) was calculated according to the skeletal muscle mass of the limbs. Differences of the ASMI and other relevant indicators among the above four groups were analyzed, and body composition was compared among four age groups. Then explore whether HTWC phenotype was an independent risk factor for the occurrence of sarcopenia in different age groups of different gender. Results:The level of triglycerides, fasting blood glucose, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure in HTWC group were higher than those in the normal group(all P<0.001). But the incidence of the muscle mass loss in the HTWC group was much lower than that in the other three groups( P<0.001). The incidence of muscle mass loss in overall subjects was 9.2%, in which man was 2.05 times higher than women(12.9% vs 6.3%). There is no statistically significant difference in the incidence of muscle mass loss between the 18-35 age group and the 56-65 age group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that body mass index, body fat percentage, bone mineral content were independent factors affecting muscle loss in 18-45 year-old adults. After adjustment for other risk factors, HTWC phenotype was still not an independent influencing factor of sarcopenia( OR=1.679, 95% CI 0.523-5.386, P=0.384). Conclusion:HTWC phenotype was not an independent influencing factor of sarcopenia. To prevent the occurrence of sarcopenia in middle-aged and young adults, in addition to assessing the muscle mass, attention should also be given to the measurement of body mass index, bone mineral content, and body fat percentage.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between ALDH2 rs671 gene polymorphism and body fat content in Chinese Han population. Methods:It was a cross-sectional study. A total of 3 943 Chinese Han people were selected for physical examination in the Department of Health Medicine in the Second Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital from January 2017 to January 2020, including 2 749 males and 1 194 females; the average age was (48.12±7.98) years. The research subjects were divided into obesity group and non-obesity group according to their body fat rate. The basic information including age, gender, disease history, height, weight, body fat content and blood samples were collected; the ALDH2 rs671 gene polymorphism was detected. Genotype and allele frequencies were compared between groups by using χ2 test. The comparison of clinical data between different genotypes was conducted by using one-way analysis of variance. The correlation between various indicators, lifestyle and genotype was analyzed by using a logistic regression model. Results:The distribution of ALDH2 rs671 genotype was wild genotype GG (68.6%), heterozygous mutant genotype GL (28.7%) and homozygous mutant genotype LL (2.7%). In terms of baseline characteristics, there were significant differences in male (67.5% vs 71.3%), body mass index (BMI, (23.12±2.64) kg/m 2 vs (27.10±2.75) kg/m 2), genotype distribution (GG 65.6% vs 70.6%), drinking history (64.4% vs 68.8%), history of hypertension (18.7% vs 36.9%), coronary heart disease (3.7% vs 5.6%) and diabetes (9.7% vs 15.0%) between the obesity and non-obesity group (all P<0.05). Multifactor logistic regression showed that ALDH2-GG genotype ( OR=1.386, 95% CI: 1.078-1.782), age ( OR=1.051, 95% CI: 1.035-1.068), and BMI ( OR=2.182, 95% CI: 2.043-2.331) were risk factors for obesity differentiated by body fat percentage, and male ( OR=0.175, 95% CI: 0.123-0.250) was protective factor (all, P<0.05). Conclusion:ALDH2 rs671 polymorphism is related to body fat content. The risk of excessive body fat content in individuals with GG genotype is significantly increased.

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the status of depression and social anxiety in children and adolescents, and to analyze the association between body fat distribution and depression, social anxiety in children and adolescents.@*METHODS@#A total of 1 412 children aged 7 to 18 years in Beijing were included by stratified cluster random sampling method. Body fat distribution, including total body fat percentage (total BF%), Android BF%, Gynoid BF% and Android-to-Gynoid fat ratio (AOI), were obtained by dual-energy X-ray absorption method. Depression and social anxiety were evaluated by Children Depression Inventory and Social Anxiety Scale for Children. Multivariate linear regression and restricted cubic spline analysis were used to estimate the linear and non-linear correlation between body fat distribution and depression and social anxiety.@*RESULTS@#13.1% and 31.1% of the children and adolescents had depressive symptoms and social anxiety symptoms respectively, and the detection rate of depression and social anxiety in the boys and young groups was significantly lower than those in the girls and old groups. There was no significant linear correlation between total BF%, Android BF%, Gynoid BF%, AOI and depression and social anxiety in the children and adolescents. However, total BF% and Gynoid BF% had significant nonlinear correlation with depression, showing an inverted U-shaped curve relationship with the tangent points of 26.8% and 30.9%, respectively. In terms of the nonlinear association of total BF%, Android BF%, Gynoid BF% and AOI with depression and social anxiety, the change trends of the boys and girls, low age group and high age group were consistent. The overall anxiety risk HR of body fat distribution in the boys was significantly higher than that in the girls, and the risk HR of depression and social anxiety were significantly higher in the high age group than those in the low age group.@*CONCLUSION@#There was no significant linear correlation between body fat distribution and depression and social anxiety in children and adolescents. Total BF% and depression showed an inverted U-shaped curve, mainly manifested in Gynoid BF%, and this trend was consistent in different genders and different age groups. Maintaining children and adolescents' body fat distribution at an appropriate level is the future direction of the prevention and control of depression and social anxiety in children and adolescents.

Objective:To assess the association of appendicular skeletal muscle mass(ASM) to fat mass(FM) ratio in early pregnancy with the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).Methods:A total of 468 pregnant women who visited the Nutritional Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital or Shunyi Maternal and Child Care Service Center in 2018 and 2019 were recruited. Detailed information and clinical data were collected. The body components were measured using the bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) method during early pregnancy (< 14 weeks) and the ASM to FM ratio was calculated. The patients were divided into the GDM group and normal glucose tolerance (NGT) group according to the results of the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) performed during 24-28 weeks. Binary logistics regression was used to explore the correlation between the ASM/FM ratio and the risk of GDM. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve of subjects was used to evaluate the predictive value of ASM/FM ratio for GDM and the cut-off value was reported. Results:Compared to the NGT group, the ASM and FM in early pregnancy in the GDM group were significantly higher, while the ASM/FM ratio was significantly lower. A lower ASM/FM ratio in early pregnancy was one of the risk factors of developing GDM. The cut-off value of the ASM/FM ratio was 0.809. The area under the ROC curve for predicting GDM increased from 68.1% to 72.3% when ASM/FM ratio was incorporated, with a significant difference by Delong test ( P = 0.006). Conclusion:Inadequate muscle mass would increase the risk of GDM and the ASM/FM ratio could serve as a predictor of GDM.
