RESUMO
No estado do Espírito Santo, Brasil, de 2001 a 2004, um inquérito abordou 65 pacientes com malária e 1.777 moradores. Os pacientes eram, na maioria, homens (78,5 por cento), com 35,1 + 16 anos, agricultores (35,4 por cento) ou estudantes (12,3 por cento), no primeiro episódio de malária (95 por cento), habitando áreas rurais (64,6 por cento) e negando viagens relevantes.
ABSTRACT
A survey in Espírito Santo State, Brazil, from 2001 to 2004, was applied to 65 patients with malaria and 1,777 residents. Patients were mainly males (78.5 per cent), aged 35.1 + 16 years old, living at rural areas (64.6 per cent), farmers (35.4 per cent) or students (12.3 per cent), in their first malaria episode (95 per cent), denying relevant travel histories.
