ABSTRACT

Objective:

To explore role of patient-centered psychological nursing intervention (PCPNI)for improving sleep quality of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD).

Methods:

A total of 118 CHD patients were selected from our department.According to odd and even hospitalization number match principle, patients were divided into routine nursing group (n=58)and psychological nursing group (n=60,received PCPNI based on routine nursing). Scores of Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI),Zung's self-rating anxiety scale (SAS),self-rating depression scale (SDS)and the medical outcomes study 36-item short-form heath survey (SF-36)before and after nursing were com-pared between two groups.

Results:

Compared with before nursing, after nursing, there were significant reductions in incidence rate of insomnia, scores of SAS and SDS and sleep latency, and significant rise in sleep efficiency and actual sleep time,P =0.001 all;compared with routine nursing group after nursing, there were significant reduc-tions in incidence rate of insomnia (48.28% vs.20.00%),scores of SAS [(42.31±7.06)scores vs.(35.62±6.14) scores]and SDS [(45.01 ±6.23)scores vs.(37.12 ± 5.14)scores]and sleep latency [(39.24 ±6.48)min vs. (28.51±6.23)min],and significant rise in sleep efficiency [(66.48±6.59)% vs.(73.26±8.15)%],actual sleep time [(5.14±0.84)h vs.(5.89±0.92)h]and each dimension score of SF-36,P =0.001 all.

Conclusion:

Patient-centered psychological nursing intervention possesses significant effect for improving sleep quality of CHD patients, it can reduce negative influence of negative emotions and finally improve quality of life.
