Objective:
Evaluate the cognitive deficits of patients with ≥ 65 years, and compare with the levels of sarcopenia. Methods:
45 patients with age ≥ 65 years at HUEC were interviewed and divided in groups pre-sarcopenia, sarcopenia and severe sarcopenia. The timed-get-up-and-go test and the handgrip test were aplied to evaluate sarcopenia. The minimental test and the clinical dementia rating were used to evaluate cognition. Results:
Statistical tests were applied considering p value significant ≤ 0.05. Comparing the groups with the cognition deficits, the result was p=0,28. When analysing gender with cognitive deficit, p was 0,93; and age with cognitive levels, p was 0,31. Comparing sarcopenia with age, and with gender, p was 0,30, and 0,46, respectively. Conclusion:
There wasn't a significative diference between sarcopenia and the cognitive levels. Also, there wasn't a significative diference between sarcopenia and cognition when compared to gender and age
